Princess Diana’s iconic wedding dress was designed by the then husband-and-wife team of David and Elizabeth Emanuel.

The Princess of Wales wore the creation—complete with a 25-foot train—to marry Prince Charles at St. Paul’s Cathedral on July 29, 1981.

The Emanuels created a secret second dress so under-the-radar that not even Diana knew of its existence.

As to the fate of that backup dress, Elizabeth said, unbelievably, that the not-quite-finished creation was likely “thrown out.” Speaking to People, Elizabeth—who was married to David at the time of Diana’s July 29, 1981 royal wedding, but who she has since divorced—said that she has no idea what happened to the second dress and that “It likely ended up on some sample rail.”

“It probably got reused, torn up, thrown out, who knows?” she added.

The Emanuels created the second dress just in case something happened to Diana’s primary dress, which came complete with a 25-foot train, 10,000 pearls, antique lace, puff sleeves, and a ruffled V-neck. “I was a bit neurotic, and I thought, ‘What happens if somebody breaks in and steals the dress or something spills or there’s a fire or it gets stolen?’” Elizabeth said. “So I thought, ‘I’m gonna make a backup dress.’”

“I just thought, ‘If anything happens, we’ll finish it off and have it ready,’” she continued. “Neither of us wanted to worry her. It was a complete secret.”

David said in a different interview, “At the time we wanted to make absolutely sure that the dress was a surprise. We didn’t try it [the second dress] on Diana. We never even discussed it. We wanted to make sure that we had something there. It was for our own peace of mind, really.”

The backup dress was more subdued, Elizabeth explained, and was made from bright white silk rather than the ivory taffeta that made up Diana’s dress that the world saw as she married Prince Charles. The second dress also had arms that were more fitted to Diana’s body with frilly cuffs, and “It was only three-quarters finished,” Elizabeth told The Daily Mail. “We simply didn’t have time to make it in its entirety, so none of the embroidery or finishing touches were done.”

She added that the backup dress “was hanging up in the studio for a long time, and then it disappeared. I don’t know if we sold it or put it into storage. It was such a busy time. I’m sure it’ll turn up in a bag one day!”

Unlike the secrecy about who was designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress in 2011 or Meghan Markle’s gown in 2018, the public knew that the Emanuels were working on Lady Diana Spencer’s wedding look. “When Diana came in for a fitting, there would be hundreds of people outside waiting to spot her,” Elizabeth said. “We had to put shutters up on our windows, and we used to put bits of fabric in different colors in the bins just to throw the journalists off the scent.”

“We had the dress stored every night in a metal cabinet guarded by two guards, Jim and Bert,” Elizabeth said (per Hello!). “So there was somebody there 24 hours a day, and we put shutters on all our windows, and we put false color threads in the rubbish bins because people were going through our bins.”

On the day of Charles and Diana’s wedding, Elizabeth remembered helping Diana before she got into her horse-drawn carriage to take her to St. Paul’s Cathedral and the life that awaited her. “We could hear the people outside cheering,” Elizabeth remembered. “Everybody was happy and smiling. It really was a fairytale wedding.”

There are no ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday, after Tehran set out a steep series of demands for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

“The intermediaries are still making efforts to find ways to resume negotiations,” Araghchi said.

He tempered optimism stirred by Iran’s separate discussions with Oman over the future management of the waterway, saying that “changes to maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz are a technical and legal matter and do not mean that the Strait of Hormuz has been reopened.”

Araghchi’s statement came a day after top Iranian security official Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr laid out the country’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, saying it would not do so “until America corrects its behavior.”

The statement from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary, as carried by Iranian state media, stated that the U.S. must withdraw its naval blockade, pay Iran damages for the war, unfreeze Iranian assets, lift sanctions on Tehran and permanently end the conflict against Iran and its regional allies.

Even though the demands are steep, analysts say they are still largely within the framework of the initial deal the two sides reached in June.

“The Supreme National Security Council of Iran, which is really a consensus body, they have come to a realization that for them the best route is returning back to the MOU,” said Mehran Haghirian, director of research and programmes at the Bourse & Bazaar Foundation London-based think tank, in a phone interview.

“They want to make sure that they get some of those things upfront, or at least there is a process for them before there is any movement on Hormuz.”

The U.S. has yet to respond publicly to the list of conditions. Top officials have previously ruled out making any immediate payments to Iran during past efforts to seal a deal to end the war.

The country’s enriched uranium stockpile has also been a sticking point for Washington, which insists Iran must abandon its nuclear ambitions. The stalled negotiations have left the Strait of Hormuz largely impassable for months, save for brief periods of operation. Thousands of sailors remain stranded in the region, unable to return home or keep the world’s supply of oil flowing.

“What we’re really working through now is how you can actually set up a traffic scheme so that the ships that pass can pass through safely,” Vice President JD Vance told Fox News on Saturday. That scheme, Vance said, would include demining efforts and also assurances from Tehran that it would not fire on transiting vessels.

On Saturday, Oman condemned attacks on the vessels that were attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, saying in a statement that such attacks could affect its negotiations with Iran over the waterway’s management. The UAE and Kuwait on Saturday also condemned an Iranian missile attack on an Abu Dhabi National Oil Company tanker.

Oman nonetheless said its discussions with Iran were “proceeding in a positive and constructive atmosphere.”

Iran and Oman, neighbors across the Strait of Hormuz, have been negotiating an agreement on how to manage traffic through the waterway, including considerations of a toll fee. The discussions have also been viewed optimistically, raising hopes that they could finally lead to reopening the strait.

But Iranian officials have dismissed any such possibility. Iran’s discussions with Oman do “not mean the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz,” Araghchi said Saturday.

Even though the Iranian officials say the discussions don’t mean an immediate reopening of Hormuz, Haghirian said the discussions would lay critical groundwork for if and when Iran reaches an agreement with the U.S. over Hormuz.

Iranian state media on Sunday reported that President Masoud Pezeshkian had met with the country’s absent Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, discussing “the war and the future ahead.” No evidence was provided that the meeting took place.

Pezeshkian earlier this week said that it had been “very difficult” to contact the 56-year-old leader, who has not been seen publicly since he was badly injured in the U.S. strikes that killed his father.

Meanwhile, the Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Yemen again attacked Saudi Arabia on Sunday, with Yemen’s news agency saying the forces targeted the Mocha port along the Red Sea.

The Houthis have launched several attacks on Saudi Arabia in recent days, also hitting a Saudi Aramco oil refinery in the port city of Jizan with a drone. It said Sunday that the attack on the refinery was in response to Saudi drones’ incursions into the Saada and Hajjah airspaces of Yemen.

The Saudi energy ministry said on X Sunday that the fire that broke out at the refinery had been extinguished and nobody was injured.

The world’s top oil exporter, Aramco, is seeking to reroute some of its exports to the Red Sea instead of the Persian Gulf in an effort to circumvent the shuttered Strait of Hormuz. Riyadh on Saturday condemned the attacks by the Houthis, who it said had attacked the kingdom since July 13 and shipping vessels since July 22.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Berkshire Hathaway's new CEO Greg Abel spent a significant chunk of the company's massive pile of cash as it invested $10 billion in Google's parent company and repurchased about $4.5 billion of its shares.

The conglomerate that legendary investor Warren Buffett built reported its second-quarter earnings Saturday morning and disclosed that its cash holdings had shrunk to $365.5 billion from nearly $400 billion at the end of March.

Berkshire's report suggested that it had added more than $21 billion worth of commercial, industrial and other stocks to its portfolio, but the earnings report doesn't name the stocks it bought. That won't be revealed until a separate filing later this month.

Abel took over as CEO in January when Buffett retired after six decades leading the company. But Buffett remains chairman.

CFRA Research analyst Cathy Seifert said investors should be encouraged by the amount of shares Berkshire's repurchased although Geico's performance was a concern because its underwriting profits fell 45% and lagged far behind other big auto insurers.

“I think there are two key takeaways that should encourage investors: The fact that they bought back shares after not having done things of this magnitude for several years now. And the other positive thing is the ability to produce the 10% operating revenue growth in the quarter,” Seifert said.

Abel announced in March that Berkshire had resumed buying back its own shares for the first time in more than two years, but investors were underwhelmed when the company only repurchased about $234 million worth of Berkshire stock in the first quarter.

The purchases in the second quarter that were disclosed Saturday demonstrate that Berkshire is serious about buybacks, but it is on the low end of the range that investors were expecting. Buffett watchers had been predicting repurchases somewhere between $5 billion and $11 billion based on a filing Buffett made when he announced his annual charitably donations in July.

The company’s standard is that it only repurchases shares when Abel and Buffett believes they are selling for less than they are worth. They do not plan to spend a specific amount like many companies do. Most of Berkshire's repurchases were made in June. They may not be buying much now as the stock just hit a new 52-week high on Thursday.

Berkshire previously repurchased $78 billion worth of its own stock between 2018 and 2024.

In addition to the Google stock Berkshire bought this spring, the Omaha, Nebraska-based company also completed a $6.8 billion acquisition of homebuilder Taylor Morrison but that didn't close until July so it's not reflected in these quarterly figures.

Berkshire's bottom line profit more than doubled to $25.667 billion, or $17,868.44 per Class A share, on a big paper gain in the value of its investments as the company lapped last year's $3.8 billion writedown in the value of its Kraft Foods stake. A year ago Berkshire reported earning $12.37 billion, or $8,600.89 per Class A share,

But Buffett has long urged investors to pay more attention to Berkshire's operating earnings to get a better sense of how its dozens of companies are performing because those numbers exclude investments. By that measure, Berkshire's operating profit grew to $12.983 billion, or $9,038.30 per A share, from $11.16 billion, or $7,759.58 per Class A share.

Berkshire owns several major insurers, including Geico, a collection of big utilities, BNSF railroad and a varied assortment of manufacturing and retail companies, including Precision Castparts and See's Candy.

A royal expert has offered insight into why the public rarely sees clear photographs of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's two children.

Although Meghan has shared some images of 7-year-old Archie and 5-year-old Lilibet, the youngsters are frequently photographed from afar or with their faces obscured. Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson attributes this to Harry's upbringing, having spent his entire childhood under public scrutiny, leaving him particularly sensitive about privacy.

Speaking on the A Right Royal podcast, Wilkinson explained, "My understanding of this, or up to a certain stage, is that Harry would much rather his children were not seen. He doesn't want them to be papped."

He further noted, "He's got this idea that if he takes them outside of Montecito, there's a horde of us out there trying to take pictures of his kids - they're not by the way."

Wilkinson also highlighted that Meghan, having been raised in California under entirely different circumstances, holds a contrasting view on keeping the children out of the spotlight, reports the Express.

He continued, "She doesn't want to hide them away, and we've seen this, haven't we, more and more with the use of Lilibet and Archie."

Both children have appeared more frequently in Instagram posts since Meghan rejoined the platform at the start of 2025, though she often obscures their faces with stickers or by only taking photos of the kids from behind.

On Father's Day this year, the 45-year-old shared a sweet snap of Harry and the kids with the caption, "They're so lucky to have you We all are Happy Father's Day to our one and only," though the tots' faces were not in the photo.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal responsibilities in 2020 and have since settled in California with their family. The couple recently made a five-day trip to the UK in July to commemorate the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games.

Prince Harry and Meghan were welcomed by King Charles and Queen Camilla for a private gathering at Highgrove House - an occasion from which very few details have surfaced.

It had been reported that King Charles was eager to spend time with his grandchildren, having not seen them for several years.

She also said that losing several family members, including her mom, “in a short amount of time” has also taken a toll on her body and that “weight loss is one of the very first physical signs of bereavement”

Kate Beckinsale is speaking out after deleting all of her Instagram posts amid a barrage of recent comments targeting her appearance.

The Serendipity star, 53, shared dozens of posts on her Instagram Stories on Saturday, Aug. 8, highlighting negative comments she’s received about her body after the 2025 death of her mother, Judy Loe, and three years after revealing she had mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS).

“Loosen up the Ozampic !! You were divine and now you look anorexic!,” read one comment she screenshotted and shared.

She also reacted to some commenters on her Instagram Stories, including one person who wrote, “Gain weight you f--- it.”

Beckinsale responded, “You take a break from Instagram for several months following the death of your mother, delete all of your posts and explain in some considerable detail about what you may have lost weight including the fact that weight loss is one of the very first physical signs of bereavement… I think people might be broken.”

This comes after the Underworld actress reportedly shared a 13-part video discussing her MCAS diagnosis, which is a condition that occurs when the mast cells in your body release too much of a substance that causes allergy-like symptoms, according to Healthline.

In the since deleted video, Beckinsale said, according Metro UK, that “anytime I post a photo of myself, I receive an enormous amount of comments telling me how disgusting I look and I’m anorexic or I’m on meth or that I’ve lost so much weight.”

“First off, I’ve lost my entire family, except my precious daughter, in a short amount of time,” she shared in the post, referring to the death of her mother and death of stepfather Roy Battersby in 2024.

The actress went on to say that the “second thing” was her MCAS diagnosis, which she said she had been diagnosed with “16 years” ago. She also shared that her “stomach is ground zero” for how the disorder presents itself and urged people to be kinder with their comments, per Metro UK.

However, Beckinsale expressed regret for sharing the video in some replies on her Instagram Stories. In response to one person who commented that her “voice creaks like a door,” she wrote, “Sometimes when I am in a flare, I get crippling acid reflux. I probably should not have made this video. I am truly sorry.”

In another post she said, “I really am truly sorry guys, I genuinely thought it would be helpful to raise some awareness about a disease that so many doctors don’t understand and it causes so much suffering. I wish I had known more about it years ago but I think I’m the wrong person, so I’m really sorry. I did not mean to offend.”

Beckinsale concluded her Instagram Stories sharing one comment asking her, “Would you like to put on some weight,” to which she replied, “Yes, very much.”

She also seemingly addressed her reasoning behind scrubbing her Instagram clean of all photos and posts in response to one commenter who said, “I liked you better when I didn’t hear you speak.” The actress said,” Well, you won’t again. I’ll delete everything except for the books I recommend.”

The Pearl Harbor actress previously shut down rumors that she has had any botox or fillers due on Instagram and said that this was in part due to her MCAS diagnosis.

Former President Barack Obama gave his infamous tan suit a comeback for a segment in Larry David’s limited HBO series Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.

“People always ask me where the tan suit came from. I think it’s time the truth finally came out,” Obama posted to X on Saturday, sharing part of the scene between him and David.

In the sketch, it turns out David is the one responsible for the fashion choice, which ignited a media firestorm after he wore it during a 2014 press conference. Obama received backlash from critics who felt the color choice was unpresidential. Today you the entire ordeal has its own Wikipedia page.

In the scene, Obama is getting ready for his press conference and David asks for a sip of his smoothie, a request Obama refuses.

When the president leaves the room, David sneaks a sip and ends up ruining the navy blue suit that Obama planned to wear. He then tries distracting Obama by recommending the tan suit because it’s “casual Friday.”

“What do you think?” the tan suit-wearing Obama asks.

“Pretty good!” David said, then calling back to his signature line: “Prettay, prettay, prettay, prettay, pretty good.”

As they make their way out of the Oval Office, David tells an unsure Obama, “People are going to be talking about this for a long, long time.”

Obama produces David’s show through his Higher Learning company, and executive Ethan LewistoldVariety he came up with the tan suit idea when David asked to use Obama in a scene.

“From the very beginning, my dream was to close the book on the tan suit once and for all,” Lewis said.

The show’s co-creator, Jeff Schaffer, also described the nerve-wracking process of directing a former president and he applauded Obama’s acting and improv skills. He even said Obama was giving David notes during the filming.

“The funny thing was watching him go, ‘Larry, you’re coming in late!’ He was the president, so he’s used to telling people what to do. Larry was in the odd position of being told what to do, which never happens on a Larry set,” he said.

Schaffer said Obama has “fun” being “annoyed” by David.

“The president said, ‘I have fun being annoyed by Larry, and when we get together, I realize I start sounding like him.’ “Larry is sucking him into his black hole of negativity.”

Summer’s not over just yet, and if you’ve got any trips planned to visit the beach these next few weeks, why not take a page out of Vittoria Ceretti’s coastal dressing book?

Right now, the Italian model is enjoying a vacation on the Spanish island of Ibiza with her boyfriend of three years, Leonardo DiCaprio, and as she was seen running errands around the Mediterranean hotspot on Wednesday afternoon, Ceretti proved that even a quick shopping trip can be done in style.

To start, she kept things cozy in a spaghetti-strap lace camisole top in crêpe de chine, courtesy of Saint Laurent. Although she is not an official ambassador for the luxury French fashion house, Ceretti has starred in a number of campaigns for its current creative director, Anthony Vaccarello—including the latest summer 2026 “Respiro” shoot—and when it comes to her street style, she can often be found repping the label.

She layered the lingerie-inspired top over a black bra, and to complement it, Ceretti slipped into a pair of relaxed, see-through sweatpants, also in white. These flowy bottoms appeared to be from Lanvin, and they came equipped with a ribbon drawstring that hung down from the center of the elastic waist.

For accessories, the model wore a set of black thong flip-flops with silver studs along the straps, while carrying a chocolate suede tote with gold chain straps from Chanel. She also popped on a pair of black Butler sunglasses from Side Eye New York, while her stack of gold necklaces and diamond drop earrings acted as the perfect finishing touches. And while not a part of the outfit, her red shopping bag coordinated well with the garnet claw clip that held up her hair.

Heck, even if you don’t have plans to visit the Mediterranean any time soon, there’s no harm in taking a few cues from Ceretti as we spend these next few weeks beating the summer heat.
