Prince William and Prince Harry aren’t thought to have been in contact since their grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s September 2022 funeral four years ago.
A sticking point for the future king remains how Harry wrote about Kate Middleton in his 2023 memoir, Spare.
Royal biographer Robert Jobson said that the Prince of Wales “wasn’t prepared” to let those comments slide.
The relationship between brothers Prince William and Prince Harry has been described as “so broken”—and a major sticking point for William is reportedly the treatment of his wife, Kate Middleton, in the pages of Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare.
In the book, Harry described Kate as “the sister I’d always wanted,” but then detailed moments of tension, specifically between the Princess of Wales and Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle. According to royal biographer Robert Jobson, the Prince of Wales “could take” comments being made about himself by his younger brother, but comments about Kate crossed the line.

William, Jobson said, “wasn’t prepared” to let those comments made by Harry about Kate slide, the biographer told Hello!. Harry and Meghan, along with their children, are now back on U.K. soil and in closer physical proximity to members of the royal family than they’ve been in over six years—but Harry’s words about the future queen didn’t go “down too well,” Jobson told the outlet.
Speaking about William, he said, “I think he could take a lot of things being said about him, but he wasn’t prepared to have things said about her when she’s not in a position to answer back.”

That said, Jobson believes that the Prince and Princess of Wales are “going to rise above all this. I don’t think they’re going to be involved in a tit-for-tat.”
“I don’t think that, because Harry and Meghan are here making a bit of noise, that’s going to necessarily make them do anything,” he added of William and Kate. “I think that they’ll probably think, well, we’ve been down this road before. It creates a circus, and we’re not going to get involved.”

Other reports—like one from The Sunday Times—indicate that it’s Harry’s writings about Kate that leaves William “unlikely to forgive Harry anytime soon.”
“Those close to William say his brother rarely comes up in conversation,” a source told the outlet.

A recent report from People indicates that the Prince and Princess of Wales are resisting any “knee-jerk reaction” to Harry and Meghan’s return to the U.K. A close friend told the publication, “They are watching this space. It’s private—they don’t feel the need to say anything or demonstrate anything outwardly.”
Any type of reconciliation, the friend added, “will be a slow build. There is a deep sense of betrayal.” William and Harry aren’t thought to have been in contact since their grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s September 2022 funeral—four years ago this month.
The consensus seems to be that “William and Catherine will continue their lives of public service,” a friend of the couple told The Daily Mail. “They intend to lead by example.”

Jobson added that growing royal responsibilities will take precedence for William and Kate, telling Hello!, “William will take the lead, but it’s going to be a team effort. So I think they’re very focused on what’s ahead of them.”
