Could you imagine a world where Ken Jennings had never won Jeopardy!and hadn’t become the most-winning champion of all-time? Yeah, Jennings can’t either.
The now-host sat down with People to talk about the upcoming season of Jeopardy! Masters, which he said has the “most daring wagers, obscure facts, and the hottest brains in America.” Season 4 begins on August 25 for a two-week event with six Jeopardy! greats.
While Jennings hosts Masters, as well as the other tournaments and Celebrityspinoff, he has to wonder what his life would look like if he didn’t win 74 games of Jeopardy!.
“If you never became a Jeopardy! champ, never became host of the whole thing, what do you think you’d be doing today?” the outlet asked him.

“I was pushing 30 when we went on Jeopardy!” Jennings said. “We were doing okay. My wife and I had just had our first baby. We just bought our little starter home outside Salt Lake City, Utah. I was a computer programmer. It was going okay. The only thing was I didn’t really love my job. I wasn’t a very good computer programmer.”

“My wife reminded me that I had this idea to become a mural painter,” the host revealed. “I would paint murals on kids’ walls because I liked doing that for fun.”
“But all of these ideas never happened because I got lucky and I got to go on my favorite show. So, there is a world out there where I lose my very first game. One Daily Double goes the other way; that can happen, and now I’m a zero-game Jeopardy! champion. Maybe I’m painting Winnie-the-Pooh murals in a daycare somewhere, and I’m very happy, and Aaron Rodgers is hosting Jeopardy!. I’m not sure.”
“I mean he was pretty good,” People said.
“He was a solid guest host,” Jennings said, nodding. “He was my wife’s favorite, actually. When I tried to figure out why, and told her I was a guest host too, she said he’s very handsome.”
Jennings went on to say that the percentage of questions on the show that he knows the answer to has “declined over time.” Most of the time, he can’t think of someone’s name.
