Rumer Willis candidly offered insight into navigating her Bruce Willis' frontotemporal dementia diagnosis (FTD).
The 38-year-old actress recently partnered with Function, a health membership that provides more than 160 advanced lab tests, imaging, and specialized assessments. Rumer took the company's APOE genetic test to determine her risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.
Rumer gave an update on her 71-year-old father while speaking to PEOPLE about her new partnership. She had spoken with the outlet about about the "terrifying" part of checking on her heath amid Bruce living with FTD. Rumer, who the eldest daughter of The Sixth Sense star and actress Demi Moore, also talked about what has been a "big win" with Bruce's illness.

"What's been interesting having a family member with dementia, it's like, he's happy. As well as someone could be doing, given the circumstances, he's doing well," the Empire alum told PEOPLE.
"When I get to see him, he sees me and [daughter] Louetta and he starts smiling. So, there's so much love and joy and tenderness that still exists there. And in terms of that, I would say that's a huge win," Rumer added, "And the fact that we still have him, you know?"

Rumer shared that father still expresses joy and happiness amid his FTD
She went on to elaborate how the domain of handling dementia is a "mystery" and can be such an "unknown challenge" because of the way everyone is affected differently by it.
Rumer explained for that reason, she is not taking moments with her father for granted.
"The most important thing for me is that I’m so grateful that I have this time with him for however many years it may be," the singer said. "I'm grateful that he seems generally wonderful and, given all of the givens of our situation, that our family is just so loving and together."

Rumer's recent partnership with function came after her experience with seeing the effects of FTD. She continued that her three-year-old daughter Louetta, who she shares with ex musician Derek Richard Thomas, is the "driving force" in her being proactive with her health.
Rumer explained that she wants to be there for Louetta for "as long as possible."
Rumer shared some of the small steps she is doing to be proactive about her health, includes taking supplements, discontinuing to use perfumes and cooking home-made rather than worrying about microplastics from takeaway containers.
Bruce was officially and specifically diagnosed with FTD in February 2023 after his condition had progressed from his initial diagnosis of aphasia.
