Roger Federer has fallen out of billionaire status after a sharp single-day decline in share price of On Holding, the Swiss athletic footwear company he holds a significant equity stake in, wiped out tens of millions of dollars from his fortune Tuesday.

According to Forbes, On's price plunged roughly 19% after the company reported second-quarter net sales that fell short of analyst expectations. The Swiss sportswear brand posted net sales of 850.4 million francs, about $1.04 billion, representing 13% growth but missing projections of 878.4 million francs.

The selloff cost Federer at least $52 million, dropping his estimated net worth to $952.4 million, below the billion-dollar threshold the tennis star had crossed just a year earlier. It comes after he confessed that he wasn't a fan of practicing with one American tennis star.

Federer owns roughly a 2.5% stake in On Holding, split between approximately 296 million Class A shares and 341 million Class B shares, an investment that first pushed him into billionaire territory in August 2025.

He became just the seventh professional athlete in history to reach billionaire status, joining a group that includes Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Ion Tiriac and the late Junior Bridgeman.

Despite the sharp drop, On's underlying financial performance wasn't entirely negative. The company reported net income of 105 million francs, roughly $129.4 million, a significant improvement from a 40.9 million franc loss during the same period last year.

Gross profit margin also climbed to 65.4%, up from 61.5% the previous year, prompting On to raise its full-year margin guidance to 65%.

Federer first became involved with On in 2019, joining as a co-owner and creative partner after his wife began wearing the brand's running shoes.

He played an active role in helping the company develop both an on-court tennis shoe and a broader lifestyle apparel line, a bet that paid off substantially when On went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2021.

At its peak, the company's growth and Federer's own signature "The Roger" shoe range helped drive his stake's value well past the $375 million mark before continuing to climb toward billionaire-making levels.

On's rise represents just one piece of Federer's broader business empire, built primarily on endorsement income earned during his 24-year playing career, which brought in nearly $131 million in prize money alone, the third-highest total in tennis history.

Off the court, Federer earned an estimated $1 billion in pretax endorsement and appearance income during his career, more than double what either Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic has earned.

His most notable deal came in 2018, when he left Nike after a 24-year partnership to sign a reported $300 million, 10-year apparel agreement with Uniqlo, a move that also freed him to pursue the On partnership given Uniqlo's lack of footwear competition with the Swiss brand.
