Gabrielle Henry attended the 2026 Miss Universe Jamaica pageant after months in recovery following her shocking fall from the stage during the 2025 Miss Universe pageant in Thailand.On Sunday, Aug. 23, Celene Hall was crowned the 2026 Miss Universe Jamaica. It is customary in many pageants — including the international Miss Universe pageant, which owns the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant — for the previous year’s winner to return and bestow the crown on her successor.
Henry, 28, was last year’s Miss Universe Jamaica winner. In a news release shared a day prior to the pageant, it was announced that she would be attending to “pass the crown to the next woman to represent the country on the international Miss Universe stage.”
“...For Dr. Henry, Sunday’s appearance represents a return to the public stage and a meaningful continuation of her Miss Universe Jamaica journey,” the news release read.
In an Instagram Stories video posted on Sunday, she was seen entering the room wearing an embellished pink gown along with her crown and sash.
The pageant queen, who is an ophthalmologist, was crowned as the titleholder for the country in August last year. In November, Henry flew to Thailand, where she competed to represent Jamaica at Miss Universe.

However, while competing during one of the pageant’s preliminary costume competition sections, Henry fell from the stage, sustaining a fracture and an intracranial hemorrhage, among other injuries.Following the fall, Henry spent time in the hospital in Thailand before she was transported home to Jamaica.In a post on his Instagram on Nov. 19, Raul Rocha, the owner of the Miss Universe pageant, shared an update on Henry’s fall.

“I would like to share with the Miss Universe family that are concerned for the health of our Miss Universe Jamaica that at 12:00 a.m. Bangkok time, that I have just left the hospital where she is being treated,” he wrote. “I was there with her family and her, and thankfully, there are no broken bones and she is under good care.”

A little over four months after the fall, on March 19, Miss Jamaica pageant organizers Mark McDermoth and Karl Williams confirmed to Jamaican news outlet The Gleaner that Henry had been released from the hospital and was recovering with help from her medical team. PEOPLE also confirmed with representatives for Miss Universe Jamaica that Henry had been released from the hospital, but remained under close medical watch and care.
“She has not yet returned to active Miss Universe Jamaica duties; therefore, no interviews nor official appearances are currently on her itinerary,” McDermoth and Williams told the outlet at the time.In the months that followed, Henry took a step back from her Miss Universe Jamaica duties as she continued to recover, returning sporadically to her social media to share updates.

On May 16, Henry attended the Integrity Children’s Fund’s Dinner en Rouge Gala in Atlanta in support of children’s literacy. The event marked her first public appearance since her fall.
In a video shared on Instagram Stories by an attendee of the gala and viewed by PEOPLE, Henry could be seen delivering remarks while seated in a chair onstage. A man next to her held a microphone as she spoke about the event’s importance to her and what it meant to be “amongst friends, family and fellow Jamaicans” for the evening.“Despite the prolonged recovery I have been going through, I could not miss being present to support such a remarkable event,” Henry said.“Today we recognize and celebrate the amazing efforts of our fellow brothers — members of the Jamaican diaspora who have poured out their hearts and souls into something so meaningful and empowering,” she added.
