Caitlin Clark signed a jersey and took a photo with a young fan who gave her flowers before the Indiana Fever’s win over the Toronto Tempo in Canada.

On Tuesday at Scotiabank Arena, the Fever clinched a 101-95 win over the Tempo with both Clark and her backcourt partner in crime Mitchell starring for Indiana in their first game in Canada. Mitchell top-scored for the Fever with 29 points, while Clark scored 24, registering seven assists.

Even with Mitchell leaving the game early due to “overheating,” Indiana prevailed with a six-point win. Sophie Cunningham played a huge part off the bench for the Fever with 13 points, but Clark’s international popularity was clear from before the opening tip.

The Tempo is the WNBA’s first international expansion team, taking part in their inaugural season alongside the Portland Fire. One of Toronto’s most highly anticipated dates of the season was against Clark and the Fever, and the game took place last night.

Clark and co. finally played their first game in Canada - and the All-Star guard was showered with support. Before tip-off, a young girl presented the 24-year-old with two bouquets, and Clark repaid the favor by signing her No. 22 Fever jersey and posing for a photo.

Ultimately, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year was overwhelmed by the support from fans in Canada. Before the game, Clark acknowledged the spectacular support as she told reporters: “It's really cool that people are waiting two and a half hours before. I don't know if I would ever do that, but I really appreciate their support.”

After securing the win - a fifth successive victory - and moving to 24-12, Clark praised the support again.

She said: “That's a really cool thing. It just shows how much this one opportunity means to people to be able to see a player that they probably watch on TV a lot and experience a moment that they've felt through the TV screen or seen online.

“And I think that's a really cool thing, so I'm just super excited that I get to play tonight.”

On her experience playing in Canada for the first time, Clark told ESPN’s Holly Rowe: “It's been great. The fans were great tonight, and it's really cool to see how much women's basketball has grown. So really fun for my first time in Canada, and certainly excited to come back.”

Clark also joked that had Canada been equipped with air conditioning, Mitchell would have been able to finish the game. When asked if she knew what Mitchell was suffering from, Clark added: “Well, maybe if Canada had air conditioning, Holly, that would probably be helpful. It's a million degrees in here, but hopefully she'll be okay. But we certainly missed her.”

The Fever is next in action against the Dallas Wings on Thursday, Aug. 20.
