I keep clicking buy on Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), and the hardware bears keep giving me reasons to do it again. Every quarter someone declares the iPhone cycle exhausted. Every quarter Apple hands me another record and I add to the position.

The conviction is simple. Apple sells hardware that a 2.5 billion active device installed base refuses to abandon, then rents that same base a growing bundle of high-margin services. Bears keep pricing this as a maturing phone company. I keep pricing it as a compounding annuity with a chip designer attached.

The Receipts I Keep Coming Back To

Start with the hardware. In the March quarter, iPhone revenue hit $56.994 billion, a March record, with Tim Cook citing 22% year over year growth and 99% US customer satisfaction on the iPhone 17 family. Total revenue came in at $111.184 billion, up 16.6% year over year, with double-digit growth in every geographic segment. Demand like that speaks for itself.

Then Services. Revenue reached $30.976 billion at a 76.7% gross margin. That mix keeps expanding, and it keeps decoupling Apple's earnings from any single phone launch. EPS of $2.01 beat the $1.9404 estimate, making it 8 consecutive quarters of beats.

The third leg is the capital return machine. The board authorized a fresh $100 billion buyback and lifted the dividend 4% to $0.27. Full fiscal year 2025 buybacks totaled $90.71 billion. On that shrinking share count, Apple posts 171.4% return on equity and 53.3% ROIC. Every dollar retained earns a return most companies cannot touch.

Why Not the Obvious AI Alternative

The name a tech-focused reader reaches for first these days is NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA). I own some, and I keep sending fresh cash to Apple anyway. The Risk I Am Not Ignoring

Greater China is the concern I sit with. The region softened to $14.49 billion in Q4 FY25 before recovering. The rebound has been fast: 33% growth in the first half of fiscal 2026 and a March record. Memory costs are climbing too, and Cook flagged a larger impact in the June quarter. Margins will feel it. The through-line still holds: an installed base compounding into a Services flywheel, backed by $62 billion in net cash. The* Vampire Diaries* creators have talked a lot about the importance of a great villain for the series, and in its later seasons, there was one villain that stood out among the rest: Kai Parker (Chris Wood). Introduced in season 6, the sociopathic siphoner quickly became a favorite in the *TVD* fandom, and for Ian Somerhalder, whose Damon Salvatore was the series' first villain, Kai marked a significant shift for the show.

In episode 6 of *EW's Binge: The Vampire Diaries*, Somerhalder recalls his hesitation about Damon becoming a good — or at least better — guy in the show's third season. "I was so upset about the trajectory of Damon," Somerhalder says. "So much so that at one point I was sitting across from [executive producer] Julie [Plec] in her office in Atlanta almost in tears so angry about this."

The Vampire Diaries

Plec, along with her co-creator Kevin Williamson, explained that Damon couldn't be what they called a "one trick pony," that he was going to be the villain at times and the hero at others. But that's precisely why Somerhalder says he was jealous of what Chris Wood got to do as Kai in season 6. "That's why I was always so in love with what Chris Wood was doing on screen, because up until that moment, there was never a character in the show, other than Stefan in the Ripper age, that actually had the ability to not be so serious, to do horrific things but do it with a smile," Somerhalder says.

As far as Wood's inspiration for Kai, Wood, who's also on the podcast, says, "We talked about Ted Bundy if he was really funny. It was the worst person in the world who's also like maybe a good hang if you can get him to shut up for a second. That was sort of what I was always going for."

ATLANTA -- England are one win away from their first World Cup final appearance in 60 years.

To get there, all they'll have to do is beat an Argentina side looking to become the first back-to-back champion since Brazil in 1958 and ‘62.

The two sides with a heated World Cup history face off on Wednesday in Atlanta for the right to face Spain on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J. The losers of the semifinal will meet France in a third-place match Saturday at Miami Gardens, Fla., after Spain's 2-0 triumph over France in the first semi.

"This is as big as it gets, so I'm really excited for this week," England captain Harry Kane told ITV this week. "I think it's going to be a special game and what a tough team to play against but hopefully, that brings the best out in us."

England's World Cup history against Argentina is favorable on the whole, with a 3-1-1 record. Those two non-wins, though, are among the darkest marks in the country's soccer history, a 2-1 loss in the 1986 quarterfinals on the infamous "Hand of God" goal by Diego Maradona, and a 2-2 penalty-shootout loss in the round of 16 in 1998, a match marred by David Beckham's second-half red card.

Kane downplayed any notion of those past matches weighing on this England squad.

"I think it's not something you want to focus too much on, surrounding the history. Yeah, that's all part of it and that's what (media members) will talk about, the fans will be involved in," Kane said. "... It's England versus Argentina, it's two of the biggest nations going toe to toe. Two giants in the semifinal of a World Cup. The rest of it is just a small part."

While Kane led the way early for England with five goals in their first four matches, Jude Bellingham has been carrying the weight of late. Bellingham has delivered consecutive braces in the last two wins against Mexico and Norway to pull even with Kane and France's Ousmane Dembele in the Golden Boot race with six goals apiece.

But they're all chasing Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, who is tied with France's Kylian Mbappe atop the leaderboard with eight goals in this tournament.

Messi, 39, has already broken the World Cup records for career goals (21) and assists (10) in this year's tournament, his record sixth appearance. But Argentina showed they are more than Messi the last time out.

He didn't score in Argentina's 3-1 extra-time defeat of Switzerland in the quarterfinals, snapping his record nine-match World Cup scoring streak. It was an important showcase of the squad's depth after he scored eight of their 14 goals through the first five matches.

Despite Messi's heroics and the rest of the team's strides, it hasn't yet felt like Argentina have reached their peak in the knockout stage. They needed extra time to win two of their first three elimination matches and rallied from down 2-0 in the final 12 minutes of regulation to beat Egypt in the round of 16.

"Luck was with us (vs. Switzerland)," Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said, a statement which could be applied to their entire knockout run. "We must be realistic, there are things we need to improve."

And yet, here resilient Argentina are, respectful of their toughest opponent to date but certainly not intimidated.

"They have great players, but beyond the individual names they're a team," Argentina defender Gonzalo Montiel said. "Our focus is on ourselves first."

This time around, the adversaries are forced into an uneasy alliance to take on a much larger threat, Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger (*All the Light We Cannot See*).

As for Maridueña, he is no doubt excited to be back in blue once again.

“I want to do 12 more years of *Blue Beetle,” *the *Corbra Kai* star told EW just prior to *Blue Beetle*‘s release. “If we do 20 of these movies and 40 cameos or if it’s just this one, what’s most exciting to me is the opportunity for people to see it and have little kids everywhere saying, ‘Oh my gosh, this guy looks like me. I can be a hero, too.’”
