Dating back as far as the Players Era Festival in November, Michigan men's basketball has been one of the top programs in the country for a majority of the season.

The Wolverines strengthened that claim by rolling past their four opponents in the first two weekends of the Men's NCAA Tournament, highlighted by a colossal 33-point win over No. 6 Tennessee in the Elite Eight that came off from a 27-point performance from Yaxel Lendeborg.

So, is this the year that the Wolverines get over the hump and the season-long mission of being national champions with two wins at the Final Four?

On part, because of its depth, experience and physicality inside the paint, Michigan has as good a chance as any of the four teams in Indianapolis to do that. Oddsmakers agree.

To get to their first national championship celebration since 1989, though, Dusty May's squad must get through a challenging No. 1 Arizona team with just as high a ceiling as Michigan and which brings as much physicality and presence around the rim as the Wolverines do.

It has been eight years since the Wolverines last reached the Final Four in 2018.

Michigan is making the ninth Final Four appearance in program history, but only seven of those are recognized by the NCAA after the Wolverines vacated appearances in the 1991-92 and 1992-93 seasons due to improper benefits paid by a booster to players.

Michigan basketball Final Four record

The Wolverines are an official 5-1 in the Final Four in their six previous trips that are recognized by the NCAA. Michigan's lone loss in the Final Four came in 1964 when Dave Strack was the head coach, and the Wolverines finished as the co-champions of the Big Ten conference.

Michigan's last trip to the Final Four came in 2018 when it stopped Cinderella sweethearts Loyola-Chicago's (with viral sensation and legend Sister Jean) run in March Madness in the national semifinals. The Wolverines would then see their run come to an end in the national title game when it ran into the buzz saw of Villanova.

Has Michigan won a Men's NCAA Tournament national championship?

Yes, Michigan men's basketball has won the national championship once in program history, coming in the 1989 NCAA Tournament. To win the national championship that season, the Wolverines — the No. 3 seed in the Southeast Region — defeated No. 3 seed Seton Hall in a one-possession, overtime game thanks to 31 points from Glen Rice and 21 points from Rumeal Robinson.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Rookie Maxime Raynaud scored 28 points and the Sacramento Kings overcame a 17-point, first-half deficit to beat the New Orleans Pelicans 117-113 on Friday night.

Raynaud was 11 of 14 from the field and made 6 of 7 free throws. He also had eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

Nique Clifford added 23 points and seven assists, and Daeqwon Plowden had 17 points. The Kings have won two in a row to improve to 21-57, while New Orleans has lost seven straight to fall to 25-53.

Jeremiah Fears had 28 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Pelicans. Siddiq Bey added 20 points, and Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy III each had 13.

Bey's 3-pointer gave the Pelicans a 55-38 lead at the 4:25 mark of the second quarter. New Orleans made 9 of 19 shots beyond the arc in the first 24 minutes and had a 66-55 advantage at the break. Fears scored 18 points in the half.

The Pelicans led by seven points after three quarters, and the Kings took the lead on Daeqwon Plowden's three free throws with 2:27 remaining.

STAWELL, Australia (AP) — American sprinters Sha'Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman won their heats Saturday and qualified for Monday's semifinals of the Stawell Gift, an annual race contested on handicap over 120 meters on grass in a small Australian town near Melbourne.

Both Richardson and Coleman are racing from "scratch" in the 144th edition of the event, meaning they must run the entire distance and chase down opponents who in some cases may start up to 25 meters ahead of them.

Richardson, who gave away 10 meters to her closest competitor at the start, won her heat in 13.815 seconds Saturday and Coleman his in 12.681.

On Monday there will be six semifinals in each of the men's and women's divisions, with the winners of each of the heats advancing to the respective finals. Only two men and two women have won the race starting from scratch.

"My experience so far is just reminding me what track and field feels like — love the respect and also fun," Richardson told Seven Network television after her heat.

"It felt like being a kid again, playing tag, like playing rabbit. I had a great time, and it just kind of woke my body up with this being the first time running in 2026 . . . chasing everyone actually made me activate and work on my race pattern."

Richardson is one of the fastest women of all time, winning a silver medal in the 100 meters in the 2024 Paris Olympics, and gold in the 4x100 relay that same year.

Coleman is a former world champion over 100 meters. He and Richardson appear to have continued their relationship despite a domestic violence charge against Richardson last July.

There are more than 700 competitors in the Stawell race, including many of Australia's top runners, in the event held about 235 kilometers (145 miles) west of Melbourne. The men's and women's finals each carry a prize of 40,000 Australian dollars ($27,500).

It has not been disclosed whether Richardson or Coleman have been paid appearance money to take part in the race. Last year Australian media reported that top Australian sprinter Gout Gout was paid 50,000 Australian dollars (35,000) to run at Stawell, where he was eliminated in the semifinals.

Richardson said this week that she was excited about the handicap format.

"I've been known to be a chaser in a couple of races, so actually the challenge of the stagger makes me more technical and sound, and with that comes great results," she said in comments on the Australian Athletics website.

Coleman, known for its fast starts, said he's the opposite.

"I'm usually leading from the front and people are trying to come catch me. I feel that this will be the perfect start to the season, to have some fun, but also be able to work on the things I have been practicing," he said.

Dan Hurley has built quite the powerhouse at Connecticut in his eight seasons in the so-called "Basketball Capital of the World."

He's won a lot because of that, too.

The Jersey City, New Jersey native, who started out coaching high school basketball at St. Benedict's Prep, is widely considered as one of the top coaches in the country ... And perhaps of all-time. So, what are the numbers?

Since taking over the Huskies program in 2018, Hurley has led the Huskies to a 198-74 overall record, back-to-back national championships in 2023 and 2024, a Big East tournament title and six straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

In the NCAA Tournament alone, the Huskies are an impressive 17-3 overall under him, and are the first team in over a decade to make the Final Four three times in a four-year span. His overall 19-5 NCAA Tournament record, which includes a few trips with Rhode Island, has him with the best winning percentage in March Madness among active coaches and third-best all-time with a minimum of 15 games.

The Huskies now look for their 18th NCAA Tournament win under Hurley on Saturday at 6:09 p.m. ET when they face No. 3 Illinois in the Final Four at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

For his success at UConn, Hurley is well compensated by the Huskies. Here's a look at Hurley's contract at UConn:

Dan Hurley contract

Hurley signed a new six-year contract with UConn in July 2024, less than a month after he turned down a job offer in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers. His deal currently has another four years left on it, according to his contract obtained by USA TODAY Sports.

His contract extension in 2024 was his second in a span of a year, as he had signed an original six-year, $32.1 million contract extension following the Huskies' first of two back-to-back national championship titles.

"It's an honor to coach basketball at UConn and to represent this world-class institution and the great state of Connecticut," Hurley said in a statement at the time of his July 2024 contract extension.

He is making a total of $8.025 million this season, making him one of the highest-paid coaches among public universities and colleges.

Dan Hurley bonuses

Hurley has already earned $475,000 in postseason bonuses for leading the Huskies back to the Final Four, according to his contract. He could also an addition $300,000 if UConn beats Illinois on Saturday, and then an addition $500,000 if the Huskies win it all.

All told, Hurley could earn up to a total of $1.275 million in postseason bonuses this season.

Dan Hurley buyout

Hurley's buyout is currently set at $3 million if he were to leave UConn, which was set for April 1. Should Hurley be fired by the Huskies with cause, his buyout is currently at just under $34.8 millon as of April 1.

Dolly Parton may have just broken the internet with her latest steamy post.

The 80-year-old country legend turned heads on Friday, April 3, with a new Instagram carousel marking the launch of her Joleans collection with Good American, a denim line owned by Khloé Kardashian and inspired by what she describes as a lifelong love of the fabric.

The opening shot is the one that stopped scrollers in their tracks. Parton posed against a rustic wooden backdrop in a fitted denim crop top layered under an open shirt, paired with high-waisted jeans and a red bandana detail. A glimpse of her toned midriff and her signature bouncy blonde hair got fans talking.

"I've always believed clothes can hold memories," she wrote in the caption. "Denim's been with me through every chapter of my life. It's comfortable, it's confident and it never goes out of style." She also spoke to the spirit behind the collection itself: "We took a little bit of my past and gave it new life for today. When someone puts these on, I want them to feel bold, beautiful, and completely themselves."

The rest of the carousel didn't disappoint—other photos featured head-to-toe denim with a tied shirt and statement belt, a sleek black printed blouse with crisp white shorts, and a red patterned top with dramatic flared jeans. And you bet fans flooded the comments.

And if the crop top photos weren't enough to remind everyone just how much Parton gives, her recent philanthropic news certainly seals the deal. The CEO of what is now officially Dolly Parton Children's Hospital in East Tennessee, Matt Schaefer, recently described her donation to the institution as nothing short of extraordinary.

"What I can tell you is that she has made a generational and transformational commitment to Children's and its mission, and that commitment is something that goes beyond our wildest expectations, that is beyond generous, and will be a lifeline for this mission for now and for years to come," he said.
