Jim Thornton, the announcer of Wheel of Fortune since 2011, has been suspended.

A spokesperson from Sony Pictures Television confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly.

Thornton joined the show in 2011.

A spokesperson from Sony Pictures Television tells Entertainment Weekly, “We have recently been made aware of allegations concerning Jim Thornton. He has been suspended from Wheel of Fortune and we are recasting while we conduct a thorough investigation.”

The studio did not provide a reason for or length of the suspension.

TMZ, the first to report the news, said the suspension resulted from an alleged incident on a commercial airline flight Thornton was aboard. Another passenger allegedly complained about the TV star to a flight attendant.

The pilot then called law enforcement and had Thornton met upon arrival, sources with direct knowledge told the outlet. Thornton was questioned and released.

A source tells EW that the airline is fully cooperating with law enforcement.

In a statement to EW, American Airlines said, “On May 14, American Airlines Flight 1276 was met by law enforcement upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) following concerns reported by a customer onboard.”

EW was unable to contact Thornton.

Thornton joined the show, which is currently cohosted by Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White, in 2011. He also serves as the announcer for Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.

He worked with longtime host Pat Sajak until the latter’s retirement from the main show in June 2024 and from the celebrity edition one year later.

Sajak would routinely instruct Thornton to tell the contestants what they’d won after solving a word puzzle.

He began his broadcast career during college at Marshall University in 1983, according to his official bio from Paramount. He had his own morning show soon after on a San Fernando Valley radio station and worked at radio and TV stations in Los Angeles.

He’s also lent his voice to Monsters, Inc.; Celebrity Deathmatch; The Cleveland Show; and other projects.

The National Football League and all 32 franchises will mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, through coordinated stadium tributes, charitable gifts, and community service projects throughout Week 1 of the regular season.

As part of the initiative, the NFL Foundation joined the New York Giants, New York Jets, and Washington Commanders to pledge a joint $1 million donation to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. The league’s foundation is also donating $250,000 to 9/11 Day, the nonprofit organization that supports the federally recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance.

“We continue to honor the memory of those we lost on September 11 and the heroes whose courage and sacrifice inspired our nation,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “Out of unimaginable tragedy emerged an extraordinary sense of unity and service that brought Americans together. As the NFL family reflects on this day 25 years later, we remember those who were taken from us and support those who continue to carry the pain of that day. We also recommit ourselves to the spirit of resilience, community, and service that remains an enduring example for future generations.”

Across the league during Week 1, stadiums will feature “Never Forget” end zone stencils and tribute messaging. Game officials will flip custom 9/11-branded commemorative coins, which will later be auctioned on the NFL Auction platform to raise money for September 11 charities. Broadcasts will also feature live national anthem coverage across the 1 p.m. ET slate.

9/11 Headlines (Newseum)

Specific team activations will take place during Sunday Night Football when the New York Giants host the Dallas Cowboys. Players, coaches, and sideline staff from both clubs will wear commemorative hats representing the NYPD, FDNY, and Port Authority Police Department, along with “Never Forget” shirts during pregame warmups. Giants-branded versions of the caps will be sold at the stadium team store to raise funds for the respective first responder agencies.

Overseas, the NFL’s first regular-season game in Australia will host pregame ceremonies featuring U.S. and Australian color guards, military personnel from both nations, and field-sized flag displays. Through a partnership with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), the league is supporting events for military families connected to 9/11, including an on-field ceremony and a service at Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance.

Beyond game day events, nine teams—the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, and Tennessee Titans—will host service projects directly at their home stadiums. League staff and partners will also hold a volunteer project aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City.

The NFL Foundation is funding a youth education program with Riptoes and working alongside StoryCorps and the Voices Center for Resilience to record family remembrances. Additionally, NFL Films will air a documentary on Sept. 9 detailing how the lives of Philadelphia Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman, retired FDNY firefighter Gary Bulger, and fan Jonathan Reiss intersected around Super Bowl LIX.

Kenan Thompson was a guest judge on Tuesday’s episode of America’s Got Talent, where he was subbing in for Simon Cowell.

America’s Got Talent was 25 percent funnier on Tuesday, as Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson sat in for Simon Cowell, in the second consecutive show he’s missed due to surgery on his back.

“I am so happy to be here,” Thompson said when he was introduced at the top of the show. “Sending so much love to Simon. Get well soon. Get back soon.”

And Thompson was given a very important responsibility, as he was tasked with handing out the night’s Golden Buzzer, which sends the recipient straight into the finals.

“The pressure is on you, Kenan!” host Terry Crews told him.

“Let me have it,” Thompson said eagerly. “I want the pressure!”

He seemed genuinely surprised and delighted to have such an important role as he sat alongside his fellow judges Mel B, Sofia Vergara, and Howie Mandel.

“Oh, I can’t wait,” the Emmy-winning comedian said. “Thank you.”

While Thompson took his time with the responsibility, he eventually gave it out to one of the last few acts: singer Lai Noelle.

The sweet-voiced 14-year-old girl sang a stirring take on Elton John’s “Your Song,” amidst confetti, and she got big applause from the audience and the judges.

In fact, the judges were blown away, starting with Mel B.

“You’re 14 years old. You have so much more to learn and experience,” the former Spice Girl said. “But where you’re starting from is pure perfection, let me tell you that right now! That was incredible, incredible.”

Vergara told Noelle that she sounded like “a huge artist already.”

She said that was still “a little bit upset” about Cowell having awarded the singer his Golden Buzzer in her audition before Vergara could give it to her.

“But, you know what? You deserve to be here,” Vergara said. “What a wonderful voice and what a wonderful song.”

Mandel quipped, “Simon knows what he’s talking about.”

Thompson’s comments were quick: “I mean, I hope y’all ready for some more confetti.”

He then told Vergara to hit the Golden Buzzer for him.

When Crews asked him why he’d made the move, Thompson said it was obvious.

“She’s dynamically gifted,” Thompson said. “I’ve been waiting on this moment all night, for somebody to give us this wow factor, and it’s right here.”

Out of the night’s 10 other acts, which included crowd-pleasers including the dance act Acro Canine Crew, singer Pynk Beard, and comedian Daniel Alvarez, three will move forward to the next round of shows, based on votes from viewers.

Voting is open through Wednesday at 7 a.m. ET. Results of Tuesday’s episode will be revealed on America’s Got Talent on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

Season 3 brings significant shifts in power within the Bellarie family. Kimmie, played by Taylor Polidore Williams, now holds a seat at the Bellarie table. However, a deadly family feud forces her into an uneasy alliance with Mallory, played by Crystle Stewart.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Tuesday that 19 of the members of the G20 had agreed to address streams of “cheap exports” that cause global economic imbalances, but said China had dissented.

Bessent made his comments at the end of a two-day meeting with finance ministers and central bankers where he tried to focus on growth, telling reporters he had urged some of his G20 counterparts to take a page from the Trump administration’s playbook of using tariffs and other measures to crack down on trade imbalances.

“We believe that non-market-based economies pushing out a never-ending stream of cheap exports is not sustainable,” Bessent told reporters. describing the sentiment that all but one G20 member had agreed to.

“It is clear that the country with the world’s largest and unsustainable current account surplus, the People’s Republic of China, was the dissenter,” Bessent said.

The Trump administration, echoing many economists, has blamed China for trade imbalances that have left it with a large trade surplus while the U.S. has a sizable deficit. At the closing press conference Tuesday, Bessent also previewed the upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping.

He told reporters he had warned other nations at the beginning of Trump ’s second term that the new U.S. “tariff wall” would mean that Chinese goods would flood their markets.

“And unfortunately, I was right,” Bessent said. “The rest of the world probably needs to take a hard look at what they should be doing to protect their citizens’ jobs, their manufacturing base, so that everything they do doesn’t get offshored.”

Bessent says AI companies must explain themselves better

He also said Trump and Xi would discuss artificial intelligence policy when they meet later this month, saying more guardrails were needed to prevent “non-state actors” from building their own models.

The treasury secretary added that he has made the point directly to industry leaders that AI companies, “whether it is the builders of the data centers, whether it is the labs themselves, have done a horrendous job, horrendous job of explaining themselves to the American people.”

“They’re going to have to take some of the blame, and they are going to have to convince the American people that all the benefits will not accrue to a small group.”

After the press conference, Trump posted on his social media site that “very productive and positive conversations were had” during the G20 meetings. He added, "Other Countries should follow our lead.”

The Trump administration's tariff policies have been criticized by economists and politicians for raising costs for U.S. consumers and, in many cases, for punishing allies. The Tax Foundation, an independent think tank, found that the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration throughout 2025 raised the overall retail price of imported consumer goods by roughly 7% relative to pre-tariff trends.

Ultimately, the U.S. Supreme Court in February decided that the sweeping global tariffs that Trump imposed under an emergency powers law were unconstitutional. The Trump administration has been overhauling its approach, and is eyeing an additional 7.5% tariff on Chinese imports after investigating alleged excess industrial capacity and forced-labor regulations.

US and China found some common ground on Iran

Bessent met with his counterparts from China at the summit and said there was some common ground on Iran, specifically that Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon” and that oil and other goods should flow freely through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has restricted.

Bessent has said China's trade surplus, which reached a record-high $1.2 trillion in 2025, is a barrier to global economic growth — as well as what he calls excessive regulation.

Global debt has reached a record high of $353 trillion, with the U.S. debt reaching a record $40 trillion in August. Markets have been concerned about a sell-off in U.S. government bonds, but Bessent told reporters, “I don't think we’re in any kind of dire situation” on bond markets.

Meanwhile, the presence of Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov continued to agitate attendees of the conference. Siluanov met with Bessent on Monday on the sidelines of the meeting, but was not included in the traditional “family photo” of ministers.

Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Russia’s attendance at the G20 meeting “created a lot of discomfort around the table, not only from Canada, but from colleagues around the table.”

“We have made sure our discomfort is being heard by colleagues with respect to who is in attendance at the meeting,” Champagne said.

The European Commissioner for the Economy, Valdis Dombrovskis, said during a press conference Tuesday that it is not the time to “normalize” relations with Russia.

Bessent defended the inclusion of Siluanov, arguing that “if the sides don’t talk, if we are not engaged, then how can it be solved?”

“I know that some Europeans had a sour taste” about the invitation, Bessent said. “If both fighters go in a corner, then there will never be a resolution to this horrible conflict,” he said.

Keanu Reeves wore one of Dolly Parton's most famous outfits for Halloween as a teenager, but how he got his hands on it is even more wild.

The 61-year-old Hollywood star shares an unusual family connection to the country legend, who died at the age of 80 on August 25 in Nashville, Tennessee, after a brief battle with cancer. While Reeves was growing up, his mother, Patricia Taylor, was a costume designer who had high-profile clients, including Parton and Emmylou Harris.

Taylor went on to design one of Parton's most famous looks, her Playboy Bunny outfit, which featured the signature black bustier, pink sequin cufflinks, and a pink-and-white bowtie. During a 2003 appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, Reeves revealed that he wore the outfit for Halloween two years after Parton modeled it, when he was 16 in 1980.

"My mother did a thing for Dolly Parton for Playboy Magazine when Dolly Parton did the cover," he said at the time. "She was in this kind of outfit, and I wore that when I was 16."

The actor noted that he wore "the bustier" and "the ears," but traded in the heels for a more comfortable pair of shoes. "I didn't do the cuff. Or did I do the cuffs? I don't remember," Reeves recalled. "And I wore sneakers and like these fishnet things."

Reeves also spoke of wearing the outfit during a 2011 episode of The Graham Norton Show, after the host presented him with the magazine cover.

Norton asked him how he fit into an outfit that was designed for Parton's famously tiny waist. Reeves joked that "there was some room" in the front. "Did you wear that door-to-door, like trick-or-treating?" Norton asked.

Parton addressed her connection with Reeves during a 2023 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. She recalled, "She [Patricia] did a lot of sewing for me, she did a lot of my clothes. But I remember Keanu when he was just little.

"And she would bring him over to my house when we were fitting, or when I would go to the shop where she worked. And one day, years and years and years ago, I was doing a show somewhere, and somebody knocked on the door.

"And, of course, Keanu was already famous at that time. He knocked on the door, and he said, 'Do you remember me? I'm the little boy that used to sit at your feet while my mama was doing [your fittings].' And I said, 'Oh my god!' I knew he had become a star, but it didn't connect to me that that was who that was." The country music star said, "He's great, he's the sweetest guy."

Barrymore added, "I heard that he wore [the costume] actually for Halloween one year. He wore this exact outfit, and he said it's his favorite Halloween costume he's ever worn." Parton seemed surprised, saying, "Aww, did he? That's sweet."
