That sparked wild scenes back in their homeland as fans took to the roads of capital Conakry to rejoice in automobiles and motorbikes.

Now the Guinean FA, Feguifoot, has pleaded with fans for calmness.

Feguifoot media supervisor Amadou Makadji advised BBC Sport Africa: "What's necessary is that our fans and the general public have fun in a really measured trend.

"They should be very careful to not put themselves in peril, as a result of the objective of football is to convey joy and not depart families bereaved.

"We are not looking for deaths to mourn, so we call on everybody to rejoice but to care for themselves in order that nothing happens to them.

Ex-star Pascal Feindouno, who was a part of the Guinea group that reached three straight Afcon quarter-finals from 2004, also joined the plea.
