Jamie Lee Curtis accused the Trump administration of trying to "erase" diversity from the United States.

The White House has since responded to the actress, labeling her "woke" and claiming that one cares about her political views.

Jamie, who has a trans daughter, has long been an advocate for diversity and LGBTQ+ rights.

After condemning ICE and Border Patrol agents in the wake of the fatalities of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, the Oscar winner weighed in on the topic of diversity and the inclusion of minorities.

"I'm happy more women are getting appreciation," Jamie said at the South by Southwest festival on Saturday (March 14) while discussing diversity in the film industry.

"More people of color are getting appreciation. More genders are being appreciated. Diversity, inclusivity, the words that Donald Trump is trying to erase from our language, which is an abomination. It's fantastic."

She also thanked the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for giving space to films like Sinners and for continuing to grow "like our Constitution should."

The actress said the Constitution "was designed to be amended. It was not designed to be a rigid, binary idea. It was designed to grow and flow as people grew and flowed.

"But we've become binary in our ideas and the interpretation of that binary is what has gotten us into another war. I mean, it's just awful."

The actress previously voiced her support for the protests in Minnesota against ICE

The White House quickly brushed off Jamie's remarks, dismissing her political views as irrelevant to the general public.

Without naming her directly, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle told Fox News, "Nobody in their right mind cares what out-of-touch woke celebrities in Hollywood say or think."

The back-and-forth between the actress and the government comes after Jamie spoke out against the Trump administration last month, calling it "inhuman."

During an event for the nonprofit Project Angel Food, she told Variety, "Every day I think I'm not going to be shocked anymore, and then I'm shocked.

"It is inhuman the way this administration is treating its citizens and its constituents and people in need. It's an abhorrence what they're doing."

She also accused Trump of using ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to distract from the Epstein files and his alleged ties to the disgraced financier.

Other celebrities, such as Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, and Kehlani, have also condemned the federal agency.

"We're only going to get sh*t done if we do it together and defy these motherf**kers," Jamie said, referring to the protests that erupted in Minnesota after an ICE agent fatally fired at Renee Good, a 37-year-old American woman.

The Trump administration maintains that the agent, Jonathan Ross, acted in self-defense after the woman tried to run him over with her vehicle on January 7.

Days later, on January 24, federal agents from the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) fired at 37‑year‑old Alex Pretti, also in Minneapolis.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the agents fired in self-defense after Pretti, who they say had a weapon, resisted their attempts to disarm him.

Eyewitnesses and local officials have challenged that account, pointing out he had a phone in his hand, not a weapon.

"THESE WERE AMERICANS! SH*T BY OUR GOVERNMENT," Jamie wrote on social media. "Let the ICE STORM of RESISTANCE RING LOUDLY."

Jamie defended her transgender daughter, Ruby, amid what she called "very dangerous times" for the trans community

The 67-year-old Halloween actress previously slammed conservatives who spread homophobic views in the "name of religion."

She made the comments in 2023 while speaking at the Out100 Celebration, an event honoring members of the LGBTQ+ community and advocates hosted by Out magazine. That year, she received the "Advocate of The Year" award.

"These are very dangerous times and I'm very happy to be in a room with people who are fighting the best fight they can fight," she said during her speech.

Referring to her daughter, who came out as a trans woman in 2021, she added, "Especially for people who have felt hidden their entire lives, and who have had the remarkable courage to state their truths like my beautiful daughter, Ruby."

Jamie shares 29-year-old Ruby with her husband, comedy director Christopher Guest. The longtime couple also has a 39-year-old daughter named Annie.

"This is what you do when you're a parent: You suit up and you show up with your heart open and your arms outstretched and your aim, true. Your job is to tell the haters to back the f**k off.

"I pray that the homophobia and transphobia that is being championed in the name of religion by the right is exposed and silenced as wrong by the love of humanity that is the center of our gay and out trans community."

Before Virgin River, there was another popular "fish out of water" series featuring small-town drama and medicine.

Premiering on CBS in 1990, Northern Exposure centers on Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow), a young Jewish physician from New York City who's required to practice medicine in rural Cicely, Ala., for four years as a condition of his student loans. As Joel adjusts to small-town life, he develops close relationships with the eccentric local residents and reluctantly grows to appreciate Cicely's quirks.

Over its six-season run, Northern Exposure took home seven Emmys, two Golden Globes, and two Peabody Awards. The show continues to maintain a passionate fanbase today, beloved for its unique storytelling style, Indigenous casting, and LGBTQ representation.

Read on to see what Morrow, Barry Corbin, Janine Turner, and the rest of the Northern Exposure cast has been up to since the series ended in 1995.

After starring alongside Johnny Depp in the film Private Resort (1985), Rob Morrow got his big break when he landed the lead role of the neurotic doc on Northern Exposure.

After departing midway through the show's final season to focus more on films, he landed the co-lead role in Robert Redford's Oscar-nominated true-scandal hit, Quiz Show (1994), as well as a supporting gig in Albert Brooks' Mother (1996).

Over the past couple of decades, Morrow has scooped up a string of small-screen roles. He headlined the heady crime procedural Numb3rs (2005–2010), alongside David Krumholtz, and played famed attorney Barry Scheck on The People vs. O.J. Simpson (2016). He was also a recurring figure on Billions (2016–2023).

In 2018, it was reported that a Northern Exposure reboot was in the works, with Morrow in talks to reprise his role. However, there's been little development since.

"We used to talk about Northern Exposure taking place in a benevolent universe, where all walks of life could coexist," the actor reflected on his rewatch podcast, Northern Disclosure, in 2025. "On Northern Disclosure, we aim to capture some of the same fun, decency, wit, and intelligence that made the show so beloved — then and now."

Morrow married actress Debbon Ayer in 1998. The couple has one daughter.

Barry Corbin (Maurice Minnifield)

Barry Corbin played the pompous Maurice, a multi-millionaire businessman, Korean War fighter pilot, and ex-astronaut. Talk about a stacked résumé!

The Texas native has a reputation for playing cowboys, sheriffs, and authority figures. Prior to Northern Exposure, he racked up supporting roles in WarGames (1983), Urban Cowboy (1980), Stir Crazy (1980), and Any Which Way You Can (1980).

Many fans will also recognize him for his standout scene in the Coen brothers' modern classic, No Country for Old Men (2007). He also recently popped up in a small role in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon (2023).

The longtime TV veteran, whose career has taken him everywhere from M*A*S*H (1981) to Dallas (1979–1984), has been a regular on a handful of shows lately. The list includes One Tree Hill (2003–2009), The Ranch (2016–2020), and Anger Management (2012–2014), alongside Charlie Sheen. He also booked recurring roles on Better Call Saul (2020) and Tulsa King (2022-present).

Janine Turner (Maggie O'Connell)

Janine Turner spiced things up in Cicely as the spunky Maggie, a former bush pilot and Joel's landlord (and eventual love interest).

"She's a landlord. She's got courage. She has no pretenses," she told EW in 1991. "She is who she is and she's not afraid. Sounds like a man's role, doesn't it?"

A veteran of General Hospital and a decade's worth of guest spots at the time, Turner moved into a higher echelon with Northern Exposure, which she landed just after her small role in Steel Magnolias (1989).

She went on to play Sylvester Stallone's love interest in Cliffhanger (1993) and June Cleaver herself in the Leave it to Beaver (1997) film adaptation. Contemporary audiences may know her from her recurring arc on Friday Night Lights (2008–2009).

The Emmy-nominated actress has largely pivoted to writing and political commentary in recent decades.

Turner has one daughter with Jerry Jones Jr., son of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

John Cullum (Holling Vincoeur)

John Cullum portrayed Holling, the owner of Cicely's popular bar and restaurant, The Brick.

Arguably the most accomplished member of the cast, Cullum is a highly regarded stage actor in addition to his lengthy television and movie career. He won the Tony for Best Leading Actor in a Musical not once, but twice, for Broadway productions Shenandoah and On the Twentieth Century. In 2007, he was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame.

The Knoxville, Tenn., native was a standout as Edward Rutledge in the film adaptation of 1776 (1972), having already played the role on Broadway. He went on to star in the legendary TV movie The Day After (1983) and the Ryan Gosling/Kirsten Dunst drama All Good Things (2010), a fictionalized version of the true-crime tale later told on The Jinx (2015).

Over the years, Cullum has also appeared on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2003–2011), Mad Men (2007), 30 Rock (2012), and The Middle (2009–2018), among many others.

The actor was married to Emily Frankel from 1959 until her death in 2024. They had one son.

Cynthia Geary earned a pair of Emmy nominations as beauty pageant winner Shelly, the former Miss Northwest Passage.

After getting her career off the ground as Shelly, the Mississippi native was the romantic lead opposite Luke Perry in the rodeo drama 8 Seconds (1994) and also appeared in several independent films, including Smoke Signals (1998).

More recently, she had a recurring role on Netflix's coming-of-age series Penelope (2024) as the title character's mother.

Like several of her castmates, Geary has expressed support for the idea of a Northern Exposure revival, sharing at a cast reunion in 2017, "We all want it to happen. Darren [Burrows]'s trying, Rob's trying."

The actress has two daughters with her ex-husband, Robert Coron.

John Corbett (Chris Stevens)

Before he was competing for Carrie Bradshaw's affections, John Corbett planted roots in Cicely as an ex-convict and disc jockey.

Beyond Northern Exposure and Sex and the City, Corbett is widely known for My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) and its two sequels. Contemporary audiences may also recognize him from his fatherly role in Netflix's To All the Boys trilogy.

Elsewhere, he was the "other guy" in the Kate Beckinsale/John Cusack rom-com Serendipity (2001) and Kate Hudson's love interest in Raising Helen (2004) before securing a regular gig on Showtime's United States of Tara (2009–2011).

After a recurring stint on Parenthood (2011–2015), he reprised Aidan Shaw for the SATC sequel series And Just Like That… (2023–2025).

Corbett married his longtime girlfriend, Bo Derek, in 2020.

Darren E. Burrows (Ed Chigliak)

Darren E. Burrows played aloof yet kinda-genius Ed, a half-Native Alaskan orphan raised by the Tlingit tribe.

Prior to landing that signature role, the Kansan scored small roles in Brian De Palma's Casualties of War (1989) and John Waters' teen musical Cry-Baby (1990).

Following his time in small-town Alaska, Burrows appeared in the TV movie The Siege at Ruby Ridge (1996), alongside Randy Quaid, Laura Dern, and Kirsten Dunst, as well as Steven Spielberg's Amistad (1997). He later guest-starred on NYPD Blue (1998), The X-Files (1999), and CSI (2009).

In more recent years, the actor landed a role in the ensemble of acclaimed drama Love Is Strange (2014), alongside John Lithgow, Alfred Molina, and Marisa Tomei, and recently headlined the indie Magpie Funeral (2023).

Burrows married professional chef Melinda Delgado in 1993. The couple shares four children together.

Peg Phillips (Ruth-Anne Miller)

The late Peg Phillips brought some sense to Cicely as the level-headed general store owner, and proud film buff, Ruth-Anne. She was initially conceived as a peripheral recurring role, but was upped to series regular status after proving wildly popular with viewers.

Though she had a lifelong ambition for acting, she was a late bloomer in show business, entering the industry in her 60s. There were small parts for a few years, including in the acclaimed River Phoenix indie Dogfight (1991) and the Olsen twins' How the West Was Fun (1994). Then Northern Exposure not only made her a fan favorite, but an Emmy nominee.

"I almost didn't audition for the series because ... I don't go out on little cookie jar grandmother things," she said in a 1992 interview. "I don't have gray hair, I'm skinny and move too fast. I guess casting directors would see me more as a bag lady."

The Washington native later went on to guest star on Suddenly Susan (1996), 7th Heaven (1996–1999), and ER (2000).

Phillips, who was married twice, had four children and eight grandchildren. She died of pulmonary disease in 2002 at 84 years old.

Elaine Miles (Marilyn Whirlwind)

Elaine Miles brought the no-nonsense receptionist Marilyn to life.

"It's crazy because when I first auditioned… I had no clue what it was," she said in a 2020 interview. "I never in my whole life thought I would become an actress. But with Northern Exposure, that first season, I was in awe the whole time."

Marilyn remains her signature role, but Miles has a few more calling cards as well. She appeared in the Native American indie classic Smoke Signals (1998) as well as The Business of Fancydancing (2002) and the HBO film Scattering Dad (1998).

The Northwest native scored a supporting role as a sheriff in the Alfre Woodard-led drama Juanita (2019), then found a huge new audience with a guest appearance on The Last of Us in the critically acclaimed episode "Kin."

Miles is a citizen of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. She has one son.

Cast members from Hulu's "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" told ABC executives at a meeting earlier this month they had concerns about continuing the show if "MomTok" founder Taylor Frankie Paul remained involved, according to audio obtained by NBC News.

The roughly 30-minute Zoom meeting came on March 7, following an incident involving Paul and her on-again-off-again partner, Dakota Mortensen. A spokesperson for the Draper Police Department in Utah said earlier this week that there is an open "domestic assault investigation" regarding Paul and Mortensen from February.

During the call, stars from "Mormon Wives" voiced concerns over the future of their careers, the show's brand and the allegations surrounding Paul and Mortensen. They also brought up alleged abuse involving Paul, who has three children, one who she shares with Mortensen.

In 2023, Paul was charged with assault, criminal mischief and domestic violence in the presence of a child, according to Salt Lake County sheriff's records. The arrest stemmed from allegations of a separate domestic violence dispute with Mortensen in 2023, which was part of the storyline in Season One of "Mormon Wives." Court records indicate that Paul pleaded guilty in abeyance to an aggravated assault charge in August 2025, and the other four charges were dismissed with prejudice.

One cast member said they did not feel comfortable filming as long as Paul is being investigated.

"It's a dangerous situation, it's a sad situation, and we don't know how to navigate it, because Taylor is our friend," the cast member said to ABC brass at the virtual meeting.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, "the purpose of the March 7 zoom was to tell 'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' cast that we care about their safety, and they should not feel pressured to do press or film the show."

"The production company engaged a seasoned law firm to conduct an investigation of the competing and conflicting allegations that Taylor and Dakota had toward one another," the source added, "and it would have been inappropriate to engage in a dialogue regarding an ongoing investigation."

There were three Disney executives at the meeting in March, including Rob Mills, the executive vice president of unscripted and alternative entertainment at Walt Disney Television, the person who shared the recording said.

Cast members gave accounts of Paul's alleged behavior at the meeting, according to the audio. Mills said on the call, "I don't know a lot, nor do I want to know too much."

Mills could not speak about the investigation, the source with knowledge of the situation said.

"This is not me putting my head in the sand, but it's not me — you know, I don't want to inquire, because I don't know what that does," Mills later said.

Several cast members repeatedly referenced "distressing" and "upsetting" video recordings of Paul's alleged conduct, but did not detail the contents of them or play them on the call.

A cast member called it "concerning" that no one at Disney or Hulu seemed to want to know what is in the videos.

Hulu executives visited Utah to see "Mormon Wives" film during Season Five, and while there they "witnessed" discussions of domestic violence, NBC News previously reported.

On Thursday, TMZ published a video that appears to be recorded by Mortensen and shows Paul pushing and kicking Mortensen as he repeatedly asks her to stop, saying, "let me go."

The recording, which does not capture what led up to the interaction, reportedly shows an incident for which Paul was arrested in 2023, according to TMZ.

Paul is also seen throwing three barstools at Mortensen. Shortly after the stool is thrown, her daughter, who was nearby on the sofa during the fight, can be heard crying.

"This is called physical abuse," Mortensen said in the video. When Paul begins hurling the stools at Mortensen, he can be heard saying, "Your daughter is right here."

The video is mentioned in the 2023 indictment against Paul, which notes that Mortensen had "redness and swelling around his eyes, swelling on his elbow, scratches on his fingers, and a laceration on his neck" from the incident. The indictment also notes that in the video, Paul's daughter is struck in the head while she was lying on the couch.

NBC News has not independently verified the TMZ video and has not viewed the original full video.

A spokesperson for Paul told NBC News on Thursday, after TMZ released the video, that the recording is the "latest installment of [Mortensen's] never-ending, desperate, attention-seeking, destructive campaign to harm Taylor without any regard for the consequences for their child."

At the meeting, one cast member asked Mills if he's "aware she's hurt a child?" He replied, "I don't think for us getting into it is right."

At the meeting, Mills stressed that the company is "never going to hide anything that is wrong for the sake of business."

He encouraged cast members to speak out about their concerns on the show, but declined to promise that what they said wouldn't be cut in edits.

The cast also expressed concern that Paul got paid more than them, which Mills denied.

Ultimately, the cast agreed to pause filming for "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" until legal action plays out, according to the audio recording.

Paul was set to take the spotlight as lead of ABC's "The Bachelorette" this season, but the network pulled the plug on Thursday.

"In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of 'The Bachelorette' at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family," Disney said in its statement regarding the decision.

There are no current public allegations against Mortensen.

Following news of the cancellation, a spokesperson for Paul said she's "gaining strength to face her accuser and taking steps to ensure that she and her children are protected from any further harm."

"There are too many women who are suffering in silence as they survive aggressive, jealous ex-partners who refuse to let them move on with their lives," the spokesperson said. "Taylor has remained silent out of fear of further abuse, retaliation, and public shaming. She is currently exploring all of her options, seeking support, and preparing to own and share her story."

Mills did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Thursday.

Representatives for Disney declined to provide additional statements on the matter.

Several authorities have been reviewing the allegations.

The West Jordan Police Department in Utah confirmed to NBC News on Wednesday that the department received a domestic violence allegation via phone call involving Paul, but declined to give details about the allegation or any potential charges. They also did not know the exact date or time of the reported incident.

A police department spokesperson said detectives are working on establishing the facts of the case.

The Draper Police Department in Utah told People earlier this week that there is an open "domestic assault investigation" regarding Paul and Mortensen and that "allegations have been made in both directions." The police spokesperson said that "contact was made with involved parties on [Feb] 24th and 25th."

Reached by NBC News on Monday, the police department declined to confirm the reports of a domestic dispute, saying its practice is "not to release details related to active investigations."

On Thursday, Mortensen, through his attorney, filed for a protective order against Paul. The filing was sent back for a correction and an amended petition, Salt Lake County District Court records show.

During the meeting, Mills suggested "staying close" with the cast as the investigation unfolds to continue the conversation about the future of "Mormon Wives."

"I want this to continue, and I want everyone to continue really being successful, both with this show and and beyond it," Mills told those on the call, "But I think really, just navigating through this thing and taking care of each other is the most important thing right now."

A rep for Taylor Frankie Paul is speaking out after a video connected to an alleged domestic violence incident between *The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives* star and her ex Dakota Mortensen was leaked to the public.

TMZ published the video to its site Thursday amid news that police have opened a separate investigation into an alleged assault halting production on season 5 of*The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives*. The controversy has cast a dark shadow on Paul's upcoming debut for the season 22 premiere of*The Bachelorette*.

"It's sad to see the latest installment of his never-ending, desperate, attention-seeking, destructive campaign to harm Taylor without any regard for the consequences for their child," Paul's rep told ** in a statement. "Releasing an old video, which conveniently omits context, on their son's birthday is a reprehensible attempt to distract from his own behavior. Thankfully, the public has seen this act before and knows who he is and sadly, many will recognize this pattern of manipulation, both in his actions on the show, and from their own experiences."

In the video, Paul is seen throwing a chair at Mortensen while one of her children is present. At one point in the footage, Paul tries to put Mortensen in a headlock, attempts to kick him, and hurls a metal barstool at him. Paul's daughter begins crying as her mother yells at Mortensen that he "did this." Mortensen refutes the accusation, telling her, "You're doing this to yourself."

At the time of the incident, Paul was arrested and pleaded guilty in abeyance to aggravated assault. As part of her plea deal, Paul was placed on 3 years' probation, which ends in August, and prosecutors dropped four other charges, including domestic violence in the presence of a child, child abuse, and criminal mischief.

EW has reached out to reps for ABC, Hulu and Mortensen. A source previously told EW that Mortensen was focused on Ever, his 2-year-old son with Paul, as conflicting reports about their more recent alleged dispute make headlines.

"He knew there was a possibility it could come out, but he was not going to be the one to proactively do that because he has always wanted a decent relationship with Taylor," the source said. "It's been really hard to achieve that, but he wants to co-parent well."

Paul shares a son and a daughter with her ex-husband, Tate Paul, who has never appeared on *Mormon Wives*. She began dating Mortensen, a real estate agent and the owner of a tiling company, years before the series premiere in September 2024. They were on-and-off throughout the series, leaving things on uncertain terms at the end of season 4.

The reality star was chosen as the star of *The Bachelorette** *season 22 in September 2025 — a historic leap away from the franchise's usual method of selecting leads within Bachelor Nation. The Sunday premiere is highly anticipated, in no small part thanks to Paul's admission on the recent season of *Mormon Wives *that she spent the night before day one of filming *The Bachelorette *with Mortensen.

She implied to EW on Tuesday that Mortensen was not aligned with her desires to keep their legal issues out of the media as she braces herself for more of the spotlight.

"I actually took action about a few weeks ago. I'm just doing third-party everything — pick-up, drop-offs, communication — so no contact right now for me," she told EW of her current status with Mortensen. "I think that's the best case, honestly, because clearly it's just not to a point of us getting along, so I wanted to take the best action I could. … I didn't want to bring anything to the public eye, making it a bigger deal for the sake of my son, and just everything about to come out. But that wasn't the plan for [Mortensen]."

Taylor Frankie Paul is speaking out after her season of *The Bachelorette* was canceled at ABC just days before it was slated to premiere.

"Taylor is very grateful for ABC's support as she prioritizes her family's safety and security," a representative for the reality star said in a statement to **. "After years of silently suffering extensive mental and physical abuse as well as threats of retaliation, Taylor is finally gaining the strength to face her accuser and taking steps to ensure that she and her children are protected from any further harm."

The statement continued, "There are too many women who are suffering in silence as they survive aggressive, jealous ex-partners who refuse to let them move on with their lives. Taylor has remained silent out of fear of further abuse, retaliation and public shaming. She is currently exploring all of her options, seeking support, and preparing to own and share her story."

Paul, who rose to fame on *The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives*, has been at the center of a media firestorm since Monday, when news broke that production on the fifth season of the show was halted as police investigated an alleged incident between Paul and her ex Dakota Mortensen. The situation escalated after a video connected to a previous alleged domestic violence incident between the former couple was leaked to the public.

ABC announced subsequently announced that Paul's season of *The Bachelorette* will no longer air as planned.

On Monday, news broke that production on *The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives* — which has documented Paul and Mortensen's rocky relationship since its 2024 premiere — was halted as police investigated an alleged incident between the pair. The Draper City Police Department has opted not to comment on the details, but did confirm that officers made contact with both parties "on [Feb.] 24th and 25th." (Mortensen has since filed for a restraining order Paul, per *People *and TMZ. EW is out for comment to both parties. A hearing has reportedly been set for April 7.)

Paul and Mortensen's relationship previously made headlines in 2023 when she was arrested in connection to a domestic incident. She pleaded guilty in abeyance to aggravated assault. As part of her plea deal, Paul was placed on three years' probation, which ends in August, and prosecutors dropped the other charges, including domestic violence in the presence of a child, child abuse, and criminal mischief.

On Thursday, TMZ published footage from said altercation, in which Paul could be seen throwing a chair at her then-boyfriend in the presence of her oldest child. (Paul shares two kids with her ex-husband Tate Paul.)

At one point in the footage, Paul tries to put Mortensen in a headlock, attempts to kick him, and hurls a metal barstool at him. Paul's daughter begins crying as her mother yells at Mortensen that he "did this." Mortensen responds by saying,"You're doing this to yourself."

On Thursday, a representative for Paul indicated that Mortensen was responsible for the leaked footage in a statement to EW.

"It's sad to see the latest installment of his never-ending, desperate, attention-seeking, destructive campaign to harm Taylor without any regard for the consequences for their child," Paul's rep said of the 2023 footage.

Earlier this week, a source close to Mortensen denied the implication that he was the reason the situation was made public. "His number one priority here is protecting [their 2-year-old son], Ever. "He knew there was a possibility it could come out, but he was not going to be the one to proactively do that because he has always wanted a decent relationship with Taylor. It's been really hard to achieve that, but he wants to co-parent well."

When most people think about the peak romantic comedy formula, they hark back to the '80s and '90s, when genre classics got the mechanics just right. And then along came *The First Wives Club*, which took that lovey-dovey template and tossed it out the penthouse window.

Anyone can experience happily-ever-after… but what happens when your husband leaves you for a younger, slimmer, version of yourself?

Although it may not have received high accolades after its 1996 debut, audiences adored the trio of actresses who carried the movie. Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, and Diane Keaton navigating the rocky road of infidelity with grace and humor was an anti-rom-com cocktail that proved hard to resist.

Packed full of stars and vintage character actors, the film's cast has stood the test of time. Read on to find out where our favorite divorcées are now.

Bette Midler (Brenda Morelli-Cushman)

Bette Midler played the sassy single mother Brenda, who's always got a biting one-liner in the chamber.

For most of her illustrious career, Midler has straddled the line between musician and actor. Already a recording star and Broadway veteran, she made a major jump to the screen with the musical drama *The Rose *(1979), earning two Golden Globes and an Oscar nomination.

The Hawaii native followed that up with a string of hits, including *Down and Out in Beverly Hills *(1986), *Ruthless People* (1986), *Big Business* (1988), *Beaches* (1988), and *For the Boys* (1991), the latter of which earned her another Oscar nod.

For children of the '90s, however, Midler's name immediately brings *Hocus Pocus* to mind. It's easy to see why resurrecting the Sanderson sisters for *Hocus Pocus 2* in 2022 would result in record-breaking streaming numbers for Disney+.

Midler and her husband, Martin von Haselberg, have been married since 1984. Their daughter, Sophie, is also an actress.

Goldie Hawn (Elise Eliot-Atchison)

Diane Keaton

Aging movie star Elise, with her collagen-filled lips and "unprofitable age," was brought to life by Goldie Hawn.

Her comedy bonafides, of course, need little explanation. From her star-making role on the sketch comedy show *Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In*, Hawn settled quickly into her comedic comfort zone. Before she knew it, she was an Oscar winner for *Cactus Flower *(1969). She then filled her resume with starring roles in *Butterflies Are Free *(1971), Steven Spielberg's *Sugarland Express *(1974), and *Shampoo *(1975).

On top of pairing up with Chevy Chase for *Foul Play *(1978), she earned another Oscar nomination for *Private Benjamin* (1980). More gems followed, including *Overboard* (1987) opposite her real-life partner Kurt Russell, *Death Becomes Her* (1992), and *Everyone Says I Love You *(1996).

On the heels of *The Banger Sisters* (2002), the actress took an extended break, finally returning 15 years later for *Snatched* (2017). She recently reunited with Russell to play Mrs. Claus to his Santa in the *Christmas Chronicles *movies.

The couple has been together since 1983 and shares one son, actor Wyatt Russell. She also has two children, actors Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, from a previous marriage.

Diane Keaton (Annie MacDuggan-Paradis)

Slightly neurotic and full of anxiety, Diane Keaton played the central character of Annie.

Keaton burst onto the scene with roles in *The Godfather *(1972) and *Play It Again, Sam *(1972). A frequent collaborator of Woody Allen, she won an Academy Award for *Annie Hall *(1977) and had starring turns in *Sleeper *(1973), *Love and Death *(1975), and *Interiors *(1978), among others.

In addition to the *Godfather *sequels, the actress headlined the likes of *Looking for Mr. Goodbar *(1977), *Reds *(1981), and *Baby Boom *(1987). She teamed up with Steve Martin for *Father of the Bride *(1991), re-teamed with Hawn for *Town & Country *(2001), and landed an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win for *Something's Gotta Give* (2003).

She continued to specialize in humane comedy for years afterward, from *The Family Stone *(2005) to *Morning Glory *(2010).

In late 2025, the beloved actress died at age 79. She was survived by her son, Duke, and daughter, Dexter.

"She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star," Midler said of her *First Wives *costar.

Hawn was equally effusive: "She just brought so much joy, so much life, so much exuberance. She was like lightning in a bottle. There wasn't anything that she couldn't do."

Sarah Jessica Parker (Shelly Stewart)

Sarah Jessica Parker teetered her way into Brenda's life as her husband Morty's new mistress, Shelly.

Though we'll always know her as Manhattan's own Carrie Bradshaw, the Ohio native began in musical theater, which paved the way for featured roles in *Footloose* (1984) and *Girls Just Want To Have Fun *(1985*)*.

Her movie career hit greater heights in the '90s with *L.A. Story *(1991), *Honeymoon in Vegas *(1992), and of course *Hocus Pocus *alongside Midler. After a pair of Tim Burton cult favorites, *Ed Wood *(1994) and *Mars Attacks *(1996), Parker landed the role that has defined her ever since.

She won four Golden Globes and an Emmy for *Sex and the City *(1998–2004), took the franchise to the big screen twice, and returned once again for the sequel series, *And Just Like That* (2021–2025).

Parker has been married to actor Matthew Broderick since 1997. They share a son and twin daughters.

Victor Garber (Bill Atchison)

Victor Garber makes you root against him as Elise's cheating film producer husband, Bill.

Based on his speaking voice alone, it's easy to believe Garber started his career in the theater. He's been nominated for four Tonys and even stepped back into the game in 2018, taking over the lead role of Horace Vandergelder in *Hello, Dolly!*

But many fans mainly recognize him as Sydney Bristow's father in *Alias* (2001–2006). Garber officiated the wedding of his TV daughter, Jennifer Garner, to Ben Affleck, and the two have remained close ever since.

The six-time Emmy nominee is also a frequent face on the big screen. He was the architect of the eponymous ship in *Titanic *(1997) and appeared in *Sleepless in Seattle* (1993), *Exotica *(1994), *Legally Blonde* (2001), *Sicario *(2015), and Best Picture winner *Argo *(2012).

The Ontario native recently finished up a run on the Canadian series *Family Law *(2021–2026).

Garber married his longtime partner, Rainer Andreesen, in 2015.

Elizabeth Berkley (Phoebe LaVell)

Elizabeth Berkley played memorably against-type as Phoebe, the ditzy actress obsessed with both Bill and Elise.

Most people remember Berkley as the smartypants, feminist, caffeine-addicted Jessie Spano from *Saved by the Bell* (1989–1992), or for her turn in the infamous NC-17 flop *Showgirls* (1995). The actress has been open about the blowback she received from the latter project, which she told PEOPLE in 2020 made her feel like a "pariah."

Aside from *The First Wives Club*, the Michigan native's career has featured several guest spotts on television, from *NYPD Blue *(2000) to *The L Word *(2009) and *CSI: Miami *(2008–2009).

More recently, however, she resurrected her most famous role on the next-gen revival of *Saved by the Bell*, which debuted on Peacock in 2020.

Berkley is married to fashion designer Greg Lauren, nephew of Ralph Lauren. They welcomed a son in 2012.
