'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast of queens announced

'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast of queens announced. Credit:

- *RuPaul's Drag Race* season 18 announced a new cast of 14 queens entering the Werk Room.

- Queens include a contestant from *The Voice*, a past guest on *The View*, a *So You Think You Can Dance* competitor, and more.

- EW exclusively spoke with the queens for a preview of the season ahead.

Given the diversity of talent (and temperament) among the ladies this year, there's no *one* word or phrase that best describes the *RuPaul's Drag Race *season 18 cast. But, new queen Briar Blush — who hails from the drag mecca of Boston which previously birthed Jujubee, Katya, Plane Jane, and Kori King — is going to try: Essentially, as she tells EW with a devilish laugh, it's "13 other girls I don't give a f--- about."

And if *that's* an indication of the drama that lies ahead, we'll certainly take it.

While they defy something as *expected* as classification, together the 14 queens make up the* Drag Race* season 18 cast, the first all-new batch of contestants to hit the Main Stage in nearly a year when new 90-minute episodes debut Friday, Jan. 2. And they're "out for blood" this time, as Indianapolis-based activist and special effects artist (she's worked with Marvel!) Ciara Myst explains to* *in an exclusive round of video interviews dropping Friday** **on EW.com and EW's YouTube channel.**

It's fitting, as others on the cast tell EW, because season 18 harkens back to the DNA that RuPaul and World of Wonder built *Drag Race* on back in 2009.

RuPaul for 'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast reveal.

"I love this season, I think it's kind of back to basics. It feels like a traditional season. You'll see what happens," explains Myki Meeks. The Orlando-based entertainer's words hold weight, as she's closely related to classic *Drag Race *excellence through her drag aunt, Roxxxy Andrews. "It's a season full of queens who've been doing this. We all wanted this, we've been working, and we all hold our own. We're not all figuring ourselves out on the show. Which is fun to watch, but it feels like, oh, this is for real. This is a pageant," she says.

Queens this year came to the show with stacked resumes longer than Luxx Noir London's 40-inch hair. Mia Starr not only danced on Rihanna's *Loud* tour, for Britney Spears in Las Vegas, Jennifer Lopez at the Super Bowl, and in Camila Cabello's "Havana" music video, she also competed on* The Voice *and* America's Best Dance Crew. *

Juicy Love Dion,** **drag granddaughter** **of fellow season 18 competitor Athena Dion (both are also related to RuGirls Morphine Love Dion and Plane Jane), grooved on national TV among the *So You Think You Can Dance *cast, while Athena regularly parties with *The View* cohosts Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin at Miami's R House — which even led to a guest appearance on the talk show in 2024.**

Outside of other talents (Kenya Pleaser is an impersonator who aims to be "like the Derrick Barry of Lizzo-isms") and drag family relations (Seattle's Jane Don't calls *All Stars 10* queens Bosco and Irene the Alien her "hot, mean older sisters"), there's one great unifier among this eclectic group of gals.

"There are so many people who need this vaccine," Philadelphia queen and registered nurse Mandy Mango says when EW asks who, among the season 18 cast, she could (legally) administer the Drag Delusion Vaccine to. "Luckily, it is free, and I *do* know how to give it."

*RuPaul's Drag Race *season 18 premieres Friday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. on MTV, with the queens participating in a "Reclaim! Renew! Rejoice!" fashion challenge using leftover treasures from RuGirls of seasons' past. Read on for the full new cast of queens, and check back Friday on EW.com and EW's YouTube channel for our exclusive individual video interviews with the new queens.

Athena Dion 'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast reveal.

**City:** Miami, Fla.****Official bio:** "Named after the Greek goddess, Athena Dion brings legendary energy wherever she goes. A talented hostess and prolific drag mother, she has built a dynasty spanning Miami and Mykonos, Greece, counting Morphine Love Dion and Plane Jane among her drag daughters. This season, Athena makes *Drag Race* her-story alongside Juicy Love Dion, marking the first-ever mother/daughter duo to compete together."****Quote from EW's upcoming video interview:** "This show does expose you for who you are, whether you like it or not. You see a lot of my personality. There are some spirals, there's some *rawr*, there's some mothering, there's me."

Briar Blush for 'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast reveal

Briar Blush for 'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast reveal.

**City:** Boston, Mass.****Official bio:** "Boston's pin-up princess, Briar Blush is a walking contradiction: retro yet edgy, goth yet glamorous, sweet but with a sting. With her signature jet black hair and killer beat, she commands attention wherever she goes. Named after the thorns on a rose, Briar's sharp wit and prickly personality prove she's not here to be liked — she's here to be remembered."****Quote from EW's upcoming video interview:** "We're all just big haters [in Boston]. Huge haters. None of us really want to be happy for each other. It's also, culturally... the food is awful, the weather is terrible, and we're all just deeply, mentally unwell."**

Ciara Myst for 'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast reveal

Ciara Myst for 'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast reveal.

**City:** Indianapolis, Ind.****Official bio:** "Indy's shapeshifting superstar, Ciara Myst blends sci-fi, horror, fantasy, and magic into her drag. A prosthetic makeup artist with credits ranging from *Dynasty* to Marvel Studios productions, Ciara Myst crafts her own costumes and promises to bring creature transformations to life on the main stage. A little ooky-spooky, a little ethereal, Ciara Myst is ready to haunt, mesmerize, and transform the competition one look at a time."****Quote from EW's upcoming video interview:** "You can expect some gag-worthy moments on the runway, especially from Ciara Myst. I'm not afraid to challenge the concepts that were presented and take it into my own weird wacky world and say what if we take that theme, flip it on its head, put it through a comic book filter, and *myst*-ify it."

Darlene Mitchell

We are sisters at this point. To get the full package and opinion, you'll have to tune in and find out. We had quite a journey."

**City:** New York, N.Y.****Official bio:** "Fiery and feisty, DD Fuego is a full-on production, serving runway-ready looks with a wink and a nod. Born in Monterrey, Mexico, she brings the heat without the cha-cha-cha Latina clichés. A former production designer for TV and off-Broadway theater, she created behind the scenes before stepping into the spotlight. High heat and maximum impact, DD Fuego leaves nothing on the stage but smoke."****Quote from EW's upcoming video interview:** "The top note [of the season] is talent. The level of talent and professionalism... what that smells like is citrus. The bottom notes are delusion, and that smells like patchouli. The rest? You fill in with filler queens, and it's like a potpourri of flavors."

Discord Addams

I've been doing this for 14 years."

Jane Don't for 'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast reveal

Self-described as 'Miami's Afro-Cuban dancing doll,' Juicy brings energy, precision, and flair to every stage she steps on. A proud member of the Dion Dynasty, she's the drag daughter of Morphine Love Dion, and technically the drag granddaughter of fellow competitor Athena Dion, proving that in the Dion Dynasty, the juice flows through every generation."****Quote from EW's upcoming video interview:** "To have [drag grandmother Athena Love Dion] there in the competition with you is bittersweet, because as much as I want to demolish everybody and tear down the competition, I have this person I love so much. I can't beat granny, kick her down, and take her walker away!"

Kenya Pleaser

Kenya is here to show the world that southern charm, curves, and confidence are a winning combination."****Quote from EW's upcoming video interview:** "Out of drag, the world can't take a big boy. By day, she's a nurse specializing in HIV and sexual health, caring for the LGBT community. By night, she's giving the stage a healthy dose of fruity energy. With a cheeky bedside manner, Mandy Mango prescribes high doses of charisma, charm, and contagious energy with every performance."****Quote from EW's upcoming video interview:** "There's something so entertaining about [drag delusion] though. You love a drag queen with delusion, it keeps things interesting in the room."

The war for overhead bin space continues to cause turbulence for Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos in the skies above.

Ripa and Consuelos aired their grievances with major airlines on Tuesday's *Live With Kelly & Mark*, which kicked off with Consuelos — who once famously "shamed" another plane passenger for taking up unnecessary overhead room — advising viewers to "always try to board your flight first" for key reasons.

"This is what he doesn't need, more encouragement," Ripa joked, noting Consuelos' well-known penchant for getting to his seat first.**

"The sooner you get on the likelier you are to have space in the overhead bin directly above your seat," Consuelos said on the air, before he called out an unspecified airline's boarding policies.

"Every airline, it's people that need extra time to get on the plane, the wheelchairs and military, obviously they go first," Consuelos said. "There's one airline that goes, and then the executive blah blah blah blah, and then the gold executive blah blah blah blah, and then the pink executive blah blah blah blah, and then the whatever color executive blah blah blah blah. By the time you get on the plane, all the stuff's gone, all the overhead. I was very annoyed. It was very annoying."

Ripa chimed in to reflect on her own harrowing experience with air travel — only her issue was with another passenger, not the airline itself.

Sherri Shepherd's son freaked when he felt her breasts on his back: 'Don't do it anymore!'

The talk show icon remembered the incident, which occurred "not too long ago" on a flight. She said the overhead was surprisingly empty near the couple's seats, so she put her carry-on bag in the compartment instead of under the seat in front of her.

"I put my backpack in the overhead, and the man that was sitting in front of me came on board... and he put his suitcase on top of my backpack, which I felt was aggressive," Ripa recounted. "So, I got up and I moved his bag off of my backpack. I was like, ha! Then, I sat back down. And then I sent you a text, I was like, 'Did you see that man put his bag on top of my bag?' I thought it was a weird flex."

Ripa previously discussed in October 2024 her husband closing in on another man's baggage, as this time "every overhead compartment was occupied."

She then turned to Consuelos to remember, "You took out a man's man purse," she said. "Mark took it out, put it between his legs, put my suitcase up there, and he goes, 'Is this somebody's bag?'"

*So You Think You Can Dance* contestant Donyelle Jones died Tuesday, her family announced on her official social media. She was 46.

"Today at 8:34am, Donyelle Denise Wilson, transitioned," they wrote, using her real name. "A wife. A daughter. A sister. A friend. And a warrior who kicked cancer's ass every single day she was here."

The message continued, "Her spirit never dimmed. Her heart never hardened. And even in the storm, she never lost her smile. #GIWMA."

Jones' death came nearly a decade after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The nonprofit organization Dancers Against Cancer, which profiled her, specified that her stage 3C cancer had included "formidable challenges, including a double mastectomy, relentless rounds of chemotherapy, and the harsh reality of metastatic breast cancer."

Most of you guys know, at this point, I am in hospice. I have done everything possible to extend my time here in this dimension and, at this point, I have surrendered to whatever God's will is. Serena Williams is addressing rumors she's coming back to professional tennis.

Speculation began on Monday, Dec. 2 when fans noticed the tennis legend had re-entered the list of players registered for the drug testing pool by the International Tennis Integrity Agency.

However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion denied the rumors shortly after they began, writing on X, "Omg yall I'm NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy."

However, fans weren't satisfied with her answer.

"And that's for you to believe but i know you got another grand slam up in there," wrote one fan in the replies. "The wildfire is a reflection of how much people miss you." added another.

Williams last played at the 2022 U.S. Open, where she won two rounds before losing in the third round to Ajla Tomljanovic.

The very next day, Serena applied for official retirement with the International Tennis Integrity Agency, meaning that she would no longer have to comply with random drug testing. As of Dec. 2 of this year, Williams is listed on the agency's list of retired players.

Shortly before her retirement, Williams wrote an essay in Vogue about her decision to step away from tennis ahead of the 2022 U.S. Open. She purposely avoided using the word "retirement," instead calling it an "evolution" away from the sport.

"I'm here to tell you that I'm evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me," Williams wrote at the time. "A few years ago I quietly started Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm. Soon after that, I started a family. I want to grow that family."

William married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in 2017, and the two share daughters Olympia, 8, and Adira, 2.

It is currently unknown why Williams rejoined the testing pool, however, it makes her eligible to return to professional tennis if she ever chooses to.

HBO Max is giving new meaning to the phrase "caught in 4K."

The streamer recently made an exciting new addition to its library: all seven seasons of the acclaimed AMC and Lionsgate Television series *Mad Men*. There's just one problem… Actually, there's many problems. And one of them involves vomit.

Within hours of the '60s-set drama arriving on HBO Max, rewatchers and diehard fans noticed quite a few issues with the show. For one thing, several episodes are listed out of order and are mislabeled as other episodes. Among them is the fan-favorite season 1 episode, "Red in the Face," which sees Don Draper (Jon Hamm) punish a drunk Roger Sterling (John Slattery) by stuffing him full of oysters and then forcing him to walk up 23 flights of stairs. The episode ends with Roger vomiting up his lunch in front of a group of prospective clients.

Not only is the episode mistitled (swapped with episode 6, "Babylon"), there's also a mistake in the big vomit scene. The 4K release includes a very visible *Mad Men* crew member operating a barf machine right behind Slattery, in full view of the camera. There's even a second guy in the shot behind him, offering a hand of support to the puke-hose operator.

On social media, fans jumped at the chance to highlight the mistake. "The new 4K transfer of *Mad Men* on HBO somehow does not have any of the post-production edits added in," one fan wrote in a post with over 740,000 views. "Which means you get stuff like this where you can see the crew member manning the puke machine after Roger has too many oysters lmao."

The mistake also became a source of discussion on the *Mad Men* subreddit. "How is a mistake like that even possible?" one fan wondered.

"This is hilarious," commented another. "And the extra hand on the crew member's shoulder is killing me. Like someone else is giving him extra emotional support while he shoots fake vomit from a tube."

A source has since claimed to* The Hollywood Reporter* that Lionsgate delivered the wrong 4K files to HBO Max and is now working to get the streamer the correct files. The outlet additionally reported that as of Tuesday afternoon, the files are in the process of being swapped out.

HBO is no stranger to post-production issues being immortalized by social media.* Game of Thrones *fans (and stars) will never forget the chaos of coffee-gate, when a non-Westerosi coffee cup was spotted in front of Emilia Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen in the final season. The company quietly removed the cup from the episode, but the memory has remained. Similarly, *The Last of Us* viewers once spotted a member of the film crew lingering in the background of a season 1 episode.

Vincent Kartheiser, Rich Sommer, Jon Hamm, Bryan Batt, John Slattery, and Michael Gladis in 'Mad Men' season 1.

That said, these gaffes are certainly not an HBO-specific issue: *Man Men* now joins legions of beloved titles — *Gilmore Girls, Buffy the Vampire Slayer*, and *The Wire *to name a few — that were released in one format and then rereleased in another, only to expose carefully cropped out boom mics, crew members and, yes, vomit machines.

*Mad Men *stars Hamm as slick advertising executive Don Draper and Elisabeth Moss as his protege Peggy as they navigate social change, their personal lives, and the high pressure world of Madison Avenue. The Matthew Weiner-created series won 16 Emmys during its eight-year run, including four consecutive wins for Outstanding Drama. Additional stars include Christina Hendricks, Vincent Kartheiser, January Jones, Rich Sommer, Alison Brie and Kiernan Shipka.

The series is also available to stream on AMC+, but not in 4K (so don't expect a cameo from everyone's favorite vomit tech). The restored version is available on HBO Max.

Chanel Gets Its New York Minute Courtesy of Chanel

In October, the fashion crowd stood to applaud Matthieu Blazy's Chanel debut. And tonight, on a New York City subway platform, they stood clear of the closing doors. Blazy took the industry downtown to an abandoned station for his first Métiers d'art collection for the house. Still, the sight of ELLE cover stars Teyana Taylor, Jessie Buckley, and A$AP Rocky, plus his Chanel-universe wife Margaret Qualley; Tilda Swinton; house ambassador Ayo Edebiri; and more tightly lined up on those wooden benches presented its own head-scratcher for such a glamorous crowd.

Active subway platform or not, NYC remains a poignant choice for Blazy's sophomore showing. While the city is neither the house's home base nor a dreamy European getaway, the brand possesses an intimate relationship with the Big Apple, from Gabrielle Chanel's first visit in 1931 en route to Hollywood to Karl Lagerfeld's final Métiers d'art collection, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2018, just two months before his passing.

After all, grit—and plenty of business sense—is what took Gabrielle Chanel from simple countryside girl to seasoned couturier. True to the show's Canal Street–adjacent location, Chanel herself embraced the grind and shrugged off the American replicas she saw of her work during her time here—something that Janet Flanner noted in her New Yorker profile of the designer. Chanel lauded "copyists" for their free "publicity," making her a contrarian against the prevailing standard of French refinement. There's a little bit of that glib nature in the "I <3 New York" sequined T-shirt that walked the runway, which was also reminiscent of Lagerfeld's infamous graffiti from the spring/summer 2014 collection.

Blazy, too, is a bit of a chameleon—his subtlety is ironically a signature, and yet it still translates wherever he goes. He evidently picked up on the New York attitude during his three-year stint in the city working under Raf Simons at Calvin Klein. Alex Consani sauntered down the platform in an androgynous pinstripe suit that almost yelled "Hey toots!" at you. Her swagger was invented by Chanel, canonized by Lagerfeld, and is now heralded by Blazy.

The animal prints were delectable, especially a psychedelic giraffe-like skirt suit. Cue Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada: "Oh I get it, I get it, I get it. The piece is called 'Urban Jungle,' right?" In reality, it was a clear nod to Chanel's leopard coats, but it also helps that the print is currently having a major metropolitan renaissance.

Many of Blazy's women-in-transit felt modern and familiar—coats slung over shoulder bags or the forearm, a sweater tied around the waist, a clear raincoat that harked back to the iconic see-through rain boots from Lagerfeld. Blazy may be recreating popular styling habits and applying them to deep-cut archive silhouettes, but he is undoubtedly working to elevate the way we think about modern dressing. However, most importantly, neither the feathered jacket and red sequin dress nor the opening camel quarter-zip and light-wash jeans (Blazy just couldn't resist!) felt out of place on that platform. And they shouldn't—that's New York, baby.
