Taylor Frankie Paul shocked her friends (and her fans) when she revealed that she had a new "crush" just as she was announced as the next Bachelorette.
In September 2025, the reality star seemingly soft-launched an unknown man with an Instagram photo with the caption, "Life's a little lighter when you're surrounded by a village and someone who can sing your favorite songs to you." But before her followers could find out who he was, she deleted the post and was announced as the lead of season 22 of ABC's The Bachelorette a week later.
While announcing her casting on Call Her Daddy, Paul clarified that the post "wasn't a soft launch" and that she had met the man only twice.
"I wanted to date a little before, and that's the point — I haven't dated, I need to get back into it, and don't people date before they go on a dating show?" she added. "It's the point."
The unknown man in question was eventually identified during season 4 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives as country singer Ben Lambert. Paul connected with him on social media, and he flew out to visit her in Utah, even though he knew she had committed to dating 22 men on reality TV.

According to his TikTok page, Lambert is a songwriter. His profile is full of videos featuring him playing guitar and singing, and he's released two original songs on Spotify titled "Oh My God" and "Scream or Shout."
"These two little songs are a result of a lot of trial, failure, and growth," Lambert wrote in a March 2026 Instagram post announcing the releases.
He continued, "For the first time in a long time, I actually tried my hardest. And I needed to….cause I had no idea how to do any of this s--- haha. It's not perfect and it's not where I want to be, but I'm learning to cut myself some slack, give grace, and to be grateful exactly where I stand."

Paul revealed on Call Her Daddy and to her SLOMW castmate Jessi Ngatikaura that she met Lambert on a TikTok live, where he was "singing and playing guitar." She asked him to play a specific song, and they got to talking.

"I don't know why I was just like, immediately I was like, 'crush, crush,' " she revealed in a SLOMW confessional. "Weeks go by, and we've had, obviously, phone calls, and I've watched him on his TikToks, and we've communicated."
She said on the podcast that Lambert was fully aware of her commitment to The Bachelorette — but that it didn't deter him from getting to know her. "He was like, go do your thing, if you meet someone, we weren't meant to be, and if not, maybe I'll be here," Paul explained.

During season 4 of SLOMW, Paul and Lambert met after he flew out to visit her in Salt Lake City.
That trip marked the second time they had hung out in person, and the reality star said in a confessional that she was keeping the budding romance as "nothing too serious" as she had recently split from her on-again, off-again boyfriend Dakota Mortensen, with whom she shares a son.
Paul also welcomed two children from her previous marriage to Tate Paul.
Though they were keeping the relationship low-key, Paul introduced Lambert to almost all of #MomTok, and they grilled him on how he feels about her being the next Bachelorette.
"I think it's good for her and everything," he said, adding that it's "good" if she gets engaged on the show and "finds someone who she's happier with."
While some of Paul's friends expressed concern about her getting to know Lambert so close to filming the reality dating show, she maintained that she was just "having fun."
"I know #MomTok thinks the whole Ben situation is complicated before The Bachelorette, and sure, it may be to them," she said in a confessional. "But I had already told him that I was going out to do this... I think it's a first step of opening up to dating, and it's exciting."
She continued, "And I think it's fair to say it's always messy with me, so like, are we shocked? Not really. I mean, if I was in a relationship, that would be a completely different story. But I'm not. I'm having fun."
