- Lauren Hammersley's Charmaine disappeared at the end of season 6.

- Brie (Zibby Allen) sets out to find her with the help of Mike (Marco Grazzini) in season 7.

- Charmaine's whereabouts are revealed in a true shocker that marks the show's most unhinged twist yet.

From emergencies at the maypole to mid-aircraft-flight heart attacks, apocalyptic firestorms ravaging the local landscape, and renegade horse Sugar's reign of terror, Netflix's *Virgin River* drama series is no stranger to the occasional unhinged plot development.

But season 7's shocking reveal of where missing hairstylist (and former lover of Martin Henderson's Jack Sheridan), Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), has been since disappearing in last year's wild season 6 cliffhanger marks a blissfully diabolical high point for one of the show's most chaotic subplots.

Season 7 kicks off right where we left off, finally revealing the horrific scene Jack saw (but the audience didn't) when he entered Charmaine's home at the end of season 6. Waiting for him on the other side of door was the murdered body of Calvin (Josh Blacker), local criminal menace and father to Charmaine's babies.

This sets off a harrowing cat-and-mouse chase to locate Charmaine and her children — all three of whom haven't been seen since before Jack discovered Cal's corpse.

After Jack's sister, Brie (Zibby Allen), receives a panicked call from Charmaine revealing that she's taken up perch inside a seedy motel room while on the run from an unknown entity, the newly single legal expert and local lawyer embarks on a quest to locate her pal.

Naturally, Brie's path collides with that of officer Mike (Marco Grazzini), who's also tracking Charmaine in the immediate aftermath of his bitter breakup with Brie, no less.

Brie's instincts lead her to Charmaine's place of work (duh), where she probes her friend's boss, Grant (Alessandro Juliani), on Charmaine's whereabouts. Shocker: He doesn't know. Or *does* he?**

In a hair-raising turn of events days later, Mike apprehends an individual connected to the investigation, who reveals — without much prompting — that Charmaine has a silver-haired stalker.

"Wait, you think I killed him? I didn't kill Calvin. I was working for him," the suspect tells Mike during an interrogation scene, with the man eventually revealing that Calvin needed him to surveil Charmaine to protect her from "that guy that was obsessed with Charmaine," later revealed to be "the salon guy."

Brie also bumps into Grant as he exits his vehicle on the street. She notices — we kid you not — an uncovered package of diapers, hiding in plain sight in the back seat of Grant's car.

Cut to Brie staking out Grant's home, and a truly hilarious instance that sees Grant — his very energy and essence now shrouded in palpable Norman Bates drag — eerily peering into Brie's car from outside.

Brie enters his home, and attempts to explain the situation, before hearing a noise coming from elsewhere inside the house. She investigates, only to discover Charmaine and her babies locked inside a room. Grant pulls a gun on Brie (which he proceeds to hold in increasingly hilarious, impractical positions as the scene goes on — including fully horizontally at one point), who talks Grant down — and into revealing that he shot Calvin dead in Charmaine's nursery, after he broke into the home and witnessed Cal screaming at the object of Grant's obsession.

Mike eventually shows up and apprehends the sadistic salon owner, freeing Charmaine and her babies from the grips of a few days without proper grooming (despite being held in the home of a salon owner reportedly obsessed with her) for good.

With Charmaine ultimately liberated, Hammersley and Grazzini were... uh... let loose earlier this week in a different sense. ** confirmed Thursday that the pair will not return for *Virgin River* season 8, ending Grazzini's four-season run and Hammersley's series-long stint on the cast that began in 2019.

New cast members joined the fray for *Virgin River* season 7, however, including *The Vampire Diaries*' Sara Canning, *One Tree Hill*'s Austin Nichols, and *Riverdale* alum Cody Kearsley.

*Virgin River* season 7 is now streaming on Netflix.
