Carlos López Estrada, the director who was set to helm a live-action take of Disney's *Robin Hood*, says the project has stalled out.
"It's dead, sadly," López Estrada responded to a question about the status of *Robin Hood* this week during an AMA on Reddit. "I say sadly because I actually thought there was something really special (and original!) there. Some truly extraordinary music we had figured out for it."
He added, "I keep daydreaming about doing it independently with different characters."

As far back as 2020, the movie was in development for Disney+, per *The Hollywood Reporter*. In addition to López Estrada, the story had a writer: Kari Granlund, who penned the 2019 live-action version of *Lady and the Tramp*. Justin Springer, who also worked on the non-animated *Dumbo*, was on board as a producer.
** has reached out to reps for López Estrada and to Disney for comment.

López Estrada previously directed the 2018 film *Blindspotting* and co-directed the animated Disney flick *Raya and the Last Dragon*, which was released in 2021.
Disney released its original version of *Robin Hood* in 1973, and it became part of the company's canon of classic movies. The voice cast included Brian Bedford (Robin Hood), Monica Evans (Maid Marian), and Phil Harris (Little John). One if its songs, "Love," was nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars.

Disney has regularly produced live-action versions of its classic films, such as *Cinderella*, *The Lion King*, *Beauty and the Beast*, and *Aladdin* in the past decade or so.
*Tangled*, which will bring the 2012 film to life, is currently in the works, although a release date has not yet been announced.
Milo Manheim, who will portray the leading man of Flynn Rider, dished in January that he was already preparing for filming. He was "learning how to hold my breath for five minutes" and "how to ride a horse right now."
The actor said he's a big fan of the animated flick and took the approach of "whatever y'all need me to do."
