Amazon Prime Video dropped the official trailer for the fifth and final season of "The Boys" on Thursday, March 5, teasing the beginning of the end of the Emmy-winning satirical superhero drama.
The highly anticipated upcoming season sees Homelander (Antony Starr) at the peak of his powers in a world "completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims," Amazon MGM Studios said in a news release.
The season will also follow Annie January (Erin Moriarty) as she struggles to form a resistance while Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), Marvin T. "Mother's" Milk (Laz Alonso), and Frenchie (Tomer Capone) are imprisoned in a "Freedom Camp."
1 / 0Say it isn't so! These TV shows are ending in 2026
It's hard to say goodbye, but fans of these TV shows will have to do just that in 2026. From fantasy epics like Starz's "Outlander" (starring Sam Heughan, left, and Caitriona Balfe, pictured) to talk shows like "The Kelly Clarkson Show" and "Late Night With Stephen Colbert," these 20 shows are ending this year.
"The trailer brings together the series' iconic characters as they prepare for one last stand, building toward the ultimate confrontation," according to the news release.
The finale of season four saw Homelander gain control over the U.S. government after his crony Senator Calhoun (David Andrews) was sworn in as the new president of the United States, and Congress declared martial law.
Show creator Eric Kripke said in a 2024 interview with the Los Angeles Times that if five seasons of the show can be translated into a three-act movie, the end of season four is the low point at the end of Act 2, which gives space for the heroes to rise to the top at the end of the series.
"It's the climax, people. Big stuff's gonna happen," Amazon MGM Studios said in the release.
The new season premieres on Prime Video — Amazon's streaming service — with two episodes on April 8, followed by weekly releases until the series finale airs on May 20.

Kripke said in a 2024 interview with USA TODAY before Season 4 that the series is simply "supe-ifying" what we see in everyday culture.
"We are reflecting what's going on in the real world," Kripke said.
Prime Video changed the title of Season 4 finale from "Assassination Run" to "Season 4 Finale" and included a viewer discretion note after the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump.
The series is based on The New York Times best-selling comic of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, who also serve as executive producers. The show follows a group of vigilantes trying to take down corrupt superheroes abusing their superpowers.
Season 1 began streaming on Prime Video in 2019. The show has inspired other shows set in the same universe, including "Gen V," which premiered in September 2023, "Diabolical," an animated series in March 2022, and "Seven on 7," a web series in July 2021.
