'Very sad.' See what Trump said about former Prince Andrew's arrest

British authorities arrested and released Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on Feb. 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office following scrutiny of his friendship with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Mountbatten-Windsor is the brother of King Charles III and was stripped of his royal prince title in October, even as he continued to deny allegations against him. "Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse," Buckingham Palace said in a statement at the time.

In Epstein files released earlier this year under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, the former prince appeared to have shared official British trade documents with Epstein in 2010. He was also pictured kneeling on all fours over an unidentified woman, one of several of him in the files.

No charges have been filed, and Mountbatten-Windsor has not responded to multiple requests for comments.

The release of the Epstein files has also prompted scrutiny on Epstein's relationship with people in the U.S., including Elon Musk, billionaire retail mogul Les Wexner, talent manager Casey Wasserman, and former President Bill Clinton.

What did Trump, who is also mentioned in the files but not charged with any crimes related to Epstein, say about the former prince's arrest? Here is what to know:

What did Trump say about former Prince Andrew's arrest?

Trump was asked on Air Force One on his way to Georgia on Feb. 19 if he thought U.S. associates of Epstein would also be arrested.

"Well, you know, I'm the expert in a way because I've been totally exonerated. It's very nice. So I can actually speak about it very nicely," Trump said. "I think it's a shame. I think it's very sad, I think it's so bad for the royal family. It's very, very sad. To me, it's a very sad thing. When I see that it's a very sad thing."

How many times is Trump mentioned in the Epstein files?

Trump and the White House have said that the drop of Epstein files proves Trump did nothing wrong. A review by the New York Times found Trump's name, his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and other references to him appear approximately 38,000 times in the millions of files released Jan. 30. Many files appear to be duplicates, however.

"I think it's really time for the country to maybe get onto something else," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Feb 3. "Now that nothing came out about me, other than it was a conspiracy against me, literally by Epstein and other people."
