Melissa McCarthy is sharing how she and her dad Michael McCarthy ended up sporting matching finger casts. **
The *Bridesmaids* actress revealed on Thursday's episode of *The Late Show With Stephen Colbert* that she accidentally fractured her finger while poking fun at her dad for fracturing his own finger. **
"My dad — who is wonderful, very feisty, moves quickly — he fell and hurt himself a little bit but didn't go to the doctor, which I'm like, 'That's what you want to do at 86,'" McCarthy told host Stephen Colbert. "And then all of a sudden, seven days later he's like, 'Does this seem okay to you?' And I was like, 'Your *clearly broken finger*?'"

The 55-year-old explained that she was in the middle of discussing her father's accident when she injured herself. **
"I was talking to my cousin and I was lovingly giving my dad a hard time because I'm like, 'He's always gotta go 100 miles an hour! He's gotta do this! He's gotta do that!'" she recalled. "I'm doing it, I slammed my hand into the base of the table I was sitting at and fractured my finger."

McCarthy ended up having to tell her husband, fellow actor and comedian Ben Falcone, about her finger. **
"I think I really hurt it, like I think I honestly hurt it…I think I broke it," she said. "And then Ben just goes, 'Yeah, I know, because 20 years ago I married Mike McCarthy…. In mocking him, you're just acting like yourself."

Colbert then unveiled a photograph of McCarthy and her father sporting matching finger casts on their fractured middle fingers. **
"He [Michael] had to go for hand surgery and this lovely doctor, I was like 'I'm not trying to get free medical advice, but I think I have jacked up my finger,'" McCarthy said. "And then he took an X-ray and said, 'Yeah, you fractured it. Good job.'" **
"You piggybacked on your dad's surgery?" a laughing Colbert asked, to which McCarthy responded, "I did… Those are good Midwestern roots! I'm like, 'The doctor's here anyway!'"
Thankfully, McCarthy appears to have made a full recovery, as she did not wear her finger cast on Thursday's episode of *The Late Show*.
