Hilary Duff and her older sister, Haylie Duff, have been acting since they were kids.
The pair were raised in Texas by their parents, Susan and Robert Duff, before moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting careers. Hilary was famously the lead of Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire, and Haylie was a series regular on 7th Heaven for the final two seasons of the show.
Speaking with TV Insider in June 2025, Haylie opened up about navigating the entertainment industry with her sister at a young age.
"I feel we both ended up pretty normal. I think it's because my mom stayed really involved in my life," she said. "I spend a lot of time with my mom. I think the fact she was very involved in us navigating this industry is probably the reason we didn't go off the rails more. I'm not saying we didn't get into some trouble here and there, but nothing all that serious."
While she still acts and now directs, Haylie is also a mom of two. She shares two daughters with her fiancé Matt Rosenberg, whom she's been engaged to since 2014.
In February 2026, Hilary confirmed the track "We Don't Talk" off her new album is about Haylie during an interview with CBS Mornings. The Younger actress, who was visibly emotional, said her sister is not "in my life at the moment."

Hilary is two years younger than her sister. Haylie was born in February 1985, while Hilary was born in September 1987.
During an interview with POPSUGAR in May 2018, Hilary opened up about growing up with an older sister.
"We just have such a history," she said. "We've grown up our whole entire lives together. So we know pretty much everything about the other person. There's such a comfort there and I feel really safe."
Hilary added, "She has always been my number one fan. My number one protector. I feel really lucky to have that safety in my life."

Haylie has starred in 7th Heaven, Napoleon Dynamite, The Wedding Pact, The Sandman and Sweet On You. She's also directed projects such as Project Baby, Killer Nurses and Shattered Vows.
Speaking with The List in June 2023, Haylie opened up about transitioning from actor to director after pulling double duty on Project Baby.
"Right now, as I'm starting to get my feet underneath me directing, I'm going to stick to being not on camera as I direct, but it's a hard thing to not be able to see yourself and then be behind the camera at the same time," she said. "It's been a whole new experience for me and a whole new way for me to use everything I've learned over the last 15, 16 years acting, and I love it. It's been a great new avenue of my career."
She got engaged to Matt Rosenberg in 2014

Haylie announced her engagement to fiancé Matt Rosenberg in April 2014.
"Matt just took me by total surprise and proposed … on April Fool's Day of all days! The moment was genuine and sweet (like him!) and I couldn't wait to say yes!" the actress wrote on her blog at the time. "We are so excited and happy to share our wonderful news with everyone!"
The pair postponed their nuptials after finding out the actress was pregnant with their first child that same year. Speaking with PEOPLE in February 2018, Haylie shared that she and Rosenberg weren't in a rush to get married.

"We talk about it and think, 'Maybe now we're ready to do it' and then life happens and toddler happens," she said. "We feel married already and it hasn't become something that both of us are gung-ho about."

Haylie and Rosenberg share two children. They welcomed their older daughter, Ryan Ava Erhard Rosenberg, on May 11, 2015. Their younger daughter, Lulu Gray Rosenberg, arrived on June 5, 2018.
During a December 2021 interview with Morning Honey, Haylie opened up about being a working mom of two.
"I am still trying to figure it out. I fly by the seat of my pants most days, trying to make sure that I am there for much of my kids' activities and things like that," she said. "I try to outsource — I try to have a lot of help."
Haylie added, "My kids are always going to come before work stuff. If I ever have the choice between going and doing something that is a volunteer thing for my kids' school or something, my work stuff is just always going to be pushed back because of it and that is probably not always the smartest thing, but I have that mom guilt that I think most moms have."

Haylie and Hilary produced and starred together in the 2006 film Material Girls, where they played heiress sisters. The pair also sang a cover of The Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed" for the A Cinderella Story soundtrack.
During a June 2025 interview with TV Insider, Haylie reflected on the 20th anniversary of Material Girls and the possibility of working on a sequel with her sister.
"That is a movie I feel like my daughters would love. They have not seen that, and I feel they would love that movie," she said. "Look, never say never. I think we both needed to go and find our own way, but never say never."
She moved back to Texas in 2021

Haylie grew up in Texas before relocating to California. In 2021, however, she moved back to her home state with her family.
Speaking with PEOPLE in April 2023, the actress said she always wanted to return to Texas, but the COVID-19 pandemic sped up those plans.
"When the pandemic happened and nothing felt normal, we were like, let's take a chance and do something really different," she said. "Everything feels tossed up and jumbled up, and the unknown kind of seems exciting. And so we just did it."
Haylie added that she's "so happy" with her transition to small-town life. "We love our neighborhood, we love our school and our friends here, and our kids are really happy here. It feels like everything just fell into place the way that it was supposed to," she said.

Despite their close relationship growing up, Hilary and Haylie seemingly had a falling out and haven't been publicly seen together since 2019.
Hilary spoke publicly about their rift for the first time in February 2026 when she confirmed the meaning of her song "We Don't Talk" off her new album luck...or something.
"It's definitely about my sister and just absolutely the most lonely part of my existence. It's not having my sister in my life at the moment, and I really struggled with thinking about including that on the record," Hilary said during a CBS Mornings appearance.
The track includes the lyrics: "Don't know when it happened / Not even sure what it was about / 'Cause we come from the same home, same blood / People ask me how you're doing / I wanna say amazing, but the truth is that I don't know / What I always end up saying is how / We don't talk, we don't talk about it / We don't talk about anything anymore."
