- Disney World has permanently removed Rock 'n' Roller Coaster's iconic preshow starring Aerosmith.

- The roller coaster previously featured a pre-ride presentation starring the band, a young Ken Marino, and Illeana Douglas.

- The Muppets will take over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2026.

If you want to watch Disney World's iconic Aerosmith preshow video before boarding Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, you'll have to... dream on.

Ahead of the ride's transformation into a Muppets-themed roller coaster set to open in 2026, the Orlando, Fla., resort has permanently removed a guest-favorite presentation starring the Steven Tyler-fronted band (as well as a young Ken Marino and Illeana Douglas) that played before visitors entered the indoor coaster's loading area.

* *has learned that the video, which introduced the ride's story and saw guests drop in on an Aerosmith recording session before zooming through busy highways to make it to a concert, has been nixed from the attraction so that construction work can begin on the ride's Muppets evolution in phases and to minimize overall downtime for guests during the revamp.

The coaster itself, which opened in 1999, will remain open, though the preshow area will no longer operate as crews work to bring a new presentation featuring Kermit, Scooter, the adorable penguin animatronics from the former MuppetVision 3D show that closed earlier this year at Hollywood Studios, and the Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem band.

Taking over for Aerosmith, whose tunes currently soundtrack the high-speed launched coaster, the Muppets edition of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster sees the Electric Mayhem crew headlining their biggest Hollywood concert, with guests embarking on a search for the group when they go missing.

Ahead of MuppetVision 3D's closure in June, Disney revealed that the former Muppets Courtyard would be removed to make way for a new *Monsters, Inc.*-themed area that would feature the company's first-ever suspended roller coaster modeled after the animated film series' door system.

Disney first announced that the Muppets would move in to the existing Rock 'n' Roller Coaster space in November 2024, ahead of the closure of the famed MuppetVision 3D show that opened in 1991 as one of the final projects Jim Henson worked on bringing to life before his death in 1990.

The company additionally announced that the beloved theater-style show might live on in the future in a different form, as Disney confirmed at the time that it was "having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future."

In addition to Disney World's version, a second iteration of MuppetVision 3D opened at the California Adventure park in Anaheim, Calif., in 2001, before it, too, closed in 2014. That narrative followed the Muppets as they took audiences on a tour of their studio, as they prepared a comically lavish production — with appearance by Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie, and more.

The news comes amid other announcements for the Disney parks, including Tuesday morning's reveal that characters and experiences from the beloved Disney+ children's program *Bluey *are headed to Disneyland and Disney World in the near future. Disneyland's Fantasyland Theatre will transform into the Bluey's Best Day Ever! show for an immersive celebration of the animated character beginning March 22, while another experience featuring Bluey and Bingo is headed to Animal Kingdom later in 2026.

Elsewhere at Disney World, the Florida resort is currently at work on evolving its Dinoland, U.S.A. section at Animal Kingdom with a Central Americas-inspired locale set to include an *Encanto* ride and an* Indiana Jones* re-theme of its classic Dinosaur attraction.

The resort's Magic Kingdom park is further set to receive its highly anticipated Villains Land, which will unite multiple Disney villains in one space after a mysterious spell conjures them to the spooky locale, following the opening of a new *Cars* area that's currently under construction.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets opens in summer 2026 at Disney's Hollywood Studios. See concept art for the new attraction above.

- Take an exclusive inside look at *A Quiet Place: Storm Warning*, the new comic spinoff set in a small island town in Iowa, a few days after the creatures arrive.

- Writer/layout artist Phil Hester and IDW Dark editor Heather Antos explain how they turned sound into a graphic element on the page.

- Hester explains why he "had to fight so hard" to make the comic happen.

Both the fun and terror of *A Quiet Place* are in the specific environment. How do people from diametrically varied parts of the globe survive when vicious creatures that hunt through sound crash land on Earth?

The first two movies, as well as the video game offshoot, saw this concept play out in sleepy, rural towns of Upstate New York, while the prequel film, *A Quiet Place: Day One*, turned the camera towards one of the noisiest locations in America, Manhattan. *A Quiet Place: Storm Warning*, the upcoming comic from writer/layout artist Phil Hester and artist Ryan Kelly, now hones in on a small island town in the Midwest.

Hester notes one specific element that screams American Heartland. "We see the operation of a river dredge, which is a boat designed to scoop out silt to keep waterways clear for commercial traffic," the scribe tells ** in an exclusive interview with IDW Dark editor Heather Antos. "There's a character, Lonnie, in this story that uses a river dredge in his battle with the creatures, and the cacophony of sounds that come from operating a ship like that both provide him some cover, but also they're like a signal flare maybe to the creatures."

*A Quiet Place: Storm Warning* is part of IDW Dark's publishing lineup that turns some of the most familiar horror movies from Paramount Pictures into comic books. Unlike, say, *Smile: For the Camera*, however, Hester had to convince the powers that be that *A Quiet Place* could work in comic form.

"For comics fans, silent comics are great. We love them. Usually, they're some of the most well-received comics every year for awards," Antos says. "But for the filmmakers and for the studio, it was such a foreign concept to them. So we actually had to convince them that you could do storytelling quietly."

Initiated by Jamie Rich, the former editor-in-chief of IDW Publishing, Hester created a test run to prove to Paramount that they could create a silent comic. (Fans may one day get to see that effort in some form, but for now it rests in a drawer somewhere.) "Doing that test run gave me almost a sense of ownership about this pitch that most creators don't have when they're brought onto a licensed project," Hester remarks. "To me, this feels like a creator-owned project because I had to fight so hard to make it happen."

The key became integrating sound as a graphic element on the page. "You see the sounds when they're supposed to happen," Hester continues. "If they're a big sound, they're a big sound effect. If they're a little sound, they're tiny."

Antos points out the humor in their situation: "Of all the ideas we pitched, they did select the one that would require the most talking."

Inspired by Hester and Kelly's Midwestern roots, *A Quiet Place: Storm Warning* is set in the fictional town of Pearl, Iowa, partially based on the very real location of Beulah in the state. The population of a few hundred individuals is surrounded on all sides by the Mississippi River at flood stage. Hester explains the two rules of this rural small town: "No. 1, everyone's in your business, but No. 2, people are probably your cousin to some degree. There are ties that you don't know about."

A Quiet Place: Storm Warning comic

In the timeline of the franchise, the comic places us just a few days after the creatures arrive on the planet. It takes about that long for them to travel from New York to middle America. The citizens of Pearl are very much aware that something bad is happening, but most are convinced it won't reach them.

Lonnie Fry, whom Hester likens to Brody in Steven Spielberg's *Jaws*, is the local fire chief and the one ringing the alarm bell. He advocates cutting off Pearl from the rest of the country to safeguard against the creatures, while his sister, the mayor, fears that could prevent rescue efforts.

"It's mostly a character study of how an insular community reacts when it has to deal with something that is completely foreign to them, and how the unity that they take for granted every day can get tested by these stressors," Hester says.

Of course, the creatures do make their way to Pearl. And, as the title of the comic suggests, they make landfall during a raging storm. "The people take advantage of that to move around or speak while being hunted by the creatures," Hester adds. "But also, if you've ever been in a storm, you know they can come and go very quickly. So the people can be exposed in ways that they didn't anticipate. Also, they're in danger from the storm itself, so you've got a double threat for the citizens to deal with in this story."

For Antos, "What makes *A Quiet Place* so fascinating is it's not a story about these creatures that come to attack. That's the inciting incident. What makes us invested is that we are so attached to the characters of the world. We see ourselves in this world, and it makes us question, How would we react in these circumstances?"

*A Quiet Place: Storm Warning* will release issue #1 on March 11, 2026. Pre-orders are due by Feb. 2 through your local comic book shop.**

'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast of queens announced

'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast of queens announced. Credit:

- *RuPaul's Drag Race* season 18 announced a new cast of 14 queens entering the Werk Room.

- Queens include a contestant from *The Voice*, a past guest on *The View*, a *So You Think You Can Dance* competitor, and more.

- EW exclusively spoke with the queens for a preview of the season ahead.

Given the diversity of talent (and temperament) among the ladies this year, there's no *one* word or phrase that best describes the *RuPaul's Drag Race *season 18 cast. But, new queen Briar Blush — who hails from the drag mecca of Boston which previously birthed Jujubee, Katya, Plane Jane, and Kori King — is going to try: Essentially, as she tells EW with a devilish laugh, it's "13 other girls I don't give a f--- about."

And if *that's* an indication of the drama that lies ahead, we'll certainly take it.

While they defy something as *expected* as classification, together the 14 queens make up the* Drag Race* season 18 cast, the first all-new batch of contestants to hit the Main Stage in nearly a year when new 90-minute episodes debut Friday, Jan. 2. And they're "out for blood" this time, as Indianapolis-based activist and special effects artist (she's worked with Marvel!) Ciara Myst explains to* *in an exclusive round of video interviews dropping Friday** **on EW.com and EW's YouTube channel.**

It's fitting, as others on the cast tell EW, because season 18 harkens back to the DNA that RuPaul and World of Wonder built *Drag Race* on back in 2009.

RuPaul for 'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 18 cast reveal.

"I love this season, I think it's kind of back to basics. It feels like a traditional season. You'll see what happens," explains Myki Meeks. The Orlando-based entertainer's words hold weight, as she's closely related to classic *Drag Race *excellence through her drag aunt, Roxxxy Andrews. "It's a season full of queens who've been doing this. We all wanted this, we've been working, and we all hold our own. We're not all figuring ourselves out on the show. Which is fun to watch, but it feels like, oh, this is for real. This is a pageant," she says.

Queens this year came to the show with stacked resumes longer than Luxx Noir London's 40-inch hair. Mia Starr not only danced on Rihanna's *Loud* tour, for Britney Spears in Las Vegas, Jennifer Lopez at the Super Bowl, and in Camila Cabello's "Havana" music video, she also competed on* The Voice *and* America's Best Dance Crew. *

Juicy Love Dion,** **drag granddaughter** **of fellow season 18 competitor Athena Dion (both are also related to RuGirls Morphine Love Dion and Plane Jane), grooved on national TV among the *So You Think You Can Dance *cast, while Athena regularly parties with *The View* cohosts Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin at Miami's R House — which even led to a guest appearance on the talk show in 2024.**

Outside of other talents (Kenya Pleaser is an impersonator who aims to be "like the Derrick Barry of Lizzo-isms") and drag family relations (Seattle's Jane Don't calls *All Stars 10* queens Bosco and Irene the Alien her "hot, mean older sisters"), there's one great unifier among this eclectic group of gals.

"There are so many people who need this vaccine," Philadelphia queen and registered nurse Mandy Mango says when EW asks who, among the season 18 cast, she could (legally) administer the Drag Delusion Vaccine to. "Luckily, it is free, and I *do* know how to give it."

The war for overhead bin space continues to cause turbulence for Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos in the skies above.

Ripa and Consuelos aired their grievances with major airlines on Tuesday's *Live With Kelly & Mark*, which kicked off with Consuelos — who once famously "shamed" another plane passenger for taking up unnecessary overhead room — advising viewers to "always try to board your flight first" for key reasons.

"This is what he doesn't need, more encouragement," Ripa joked, noting Consuelos' well-known penchant for getting to his seat first.**

"The sooner you get on the likelier you are to have space in the overhead bin directly above your seat," Consuelos said on the air, before he called out an unspecified airline's boarding policies.

"Every airline, it's people that need extra time to get on the plane, the wheelchairs and military, obviously they go first," Consuelos said. "There's one airline that goes, and then the executive blah blah blah blah, and then the gold executive blah blah blah blah, and then the pink executive blah blah blah blah, and then the whatever color executive blah blah blah blah. By the time you get on the plane, all the stuff's gone, all the overhead. I was very annoyed. It was very annoying."

Ripa chimed in to reflect on her own harrowing experience with air travel — only her issue was with another passenger, not the airline itself.

The talk show icon remembered the incident, which occurred "not too long ago" on a flight. She said the overhead was surprisingly empty near the couple's seats, so she put her carry-on bag in the compartment instead of under the seat in front of her.

"I put my backpack in the overhead, and the man that was sitting in front of me came on board... and he put his suitcase on top of my backpack, which I felt was aggressive," Ripa recounted. "So, I got up and I moved his bag off of my backpack. I was like, ha! Then, I sat back down. And then I sent you a text, I was like, 'Did you see that man put his bag on top of my bag?' I thought it was a weird flex."

Ripa previously discussed in October 2024 her husband closing in on another man's baggage, as this time "every overhead compartment was occupied."

She then turned to Consuelos to remember, "You took out a man's man purse," she said. "Mark took it out, put it between his legs, put my suitcase up there, and he goes, 'Is this somebody's bag?'"

"I didn't even ask him," Consuelos confirmed. "I shamed him into doing that, like, put it under the seat."

Just a week ago, the dancer shared an emotional video on social media, in which she said, "It has come to the point where I have started to get my affairs in order. Most of you guys know, at this point, I am in hospice. I have done everything possible to extend my time here in this dimension and, at this point, I have surrendered to whatever God's will is. And if God's will is that he heals my liver, which is not functioning and not making me able to eat, and I get that miraculous healing, and I'm audacious enough to believe that he can do it — but I'm also cognizant enough to know that I've received 10 years of miracles."

Jones continued, "What else can I possibly ask for, but for his discernment on when it's his time for me to have my time on this side come to an end?"

She thanked the thousands of people whom she said had prayed and shown up for her by sending prayers, money, thoughts, love, and light.

Jones' last thought that she wanted to leave, she said, was that people should "get back to community" and "family."

"Nobody does anything alone," she said, adding that she felt the pandemic has shifted the way the world works.

Following Jones' death, actress Actress Yvette Nicole Brown wrote about her on social media.

"My dear friend has gone on to be with the Lord." Brown said, referring to Jones as "the best of us."

Brown added, "Thank you for showing us how to live and fight and love and DANCE!"**
