Taylor Swift is releasing an Eras Tour movie — again!

Not to be confused with 2023's concert film *Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour* or the upcoming six-part docuseries *Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The End of an Era*, new Disney+ concert film *Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show *captures, as its lengthy title promises, the final stop on her years-long, globe-trotting career retrospective tour.

Swifties and lay fans alike can now feast their eyes on a first look at the new concert film. The trailer for *The Final Show*, which was released Monday, announces the big draw for this second of three looks at the two-year tour: the full set of songs from Swift's 11th studio album, *The Tortured Poets Department*.**

In the midst of promoting the first Eras Tour film, which was released in October 2023, and completing the tour's international trek, Swift released her highly anticipated follow-up to 2022's *Midnights*. *The Tortured Poets Department *added 31 new songs to the Swift oeuvre after she expanded the initial 16-track release with a double album subtitled "The Anthology."

The first Eras Tour film was released months before *Poets*, meaning the full set Swift eventually added to the tour, featuring fan faves like "But Daddy I Love Him" and "Fortnight," couldn't be seen by fans unable to get tickets to a nearby show.

*The Final Show *changes that.

"We've had so long to prepare for the end of this tour, and we get to play one last show for you here tonight," Swift can be heard telling the crowd in voiceover during the trailer, which previews live performances of *Poets *tracks "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" and "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"**

The concert film was shot in Vancouver, B.C., where Swift ended the Eras Tour on Dec. 8, 2024 after 149 shows across 51 cities.

A previously released trailer for the upcoming Eras Tour docuseries featured new footage of Swift kissing fiancé Travis Kelce beneath a massive stadium stage and paling around with past and present collaborators like Ed Sheeran, Sabrina Carpenter, and Florence Welch.****

In the closing seconds of the new *Final Show *trailer, Swift gives tearful thanks to the hundreds of assembled fans at the BC Place Stadium**. **"I want to thank every single one of you for being a part of the most thrilling chapter of my entire life to date," she said.

*Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show* premieres on Disney+ on December 12. Subscribers can also view the first two episodes of *Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The End of an Era *that same day, with two more episodes dropping the following two weeks.

Sabrina Carpenter slammed Donald Trump's White House for using her hit song "Juno" in a video montage depicting ICE raids. The Grammy winner responded to the video on X with the following takedown: "This video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda."

The White House has made a habit out of using pop songs from anti-Trump singers in videos praising Trump or celebrating ICE on social media. The latest video takes the most viral lyric from Carpenter's "Juno" (when the singer asks about sex positions: "Have you ever tried this one?") and layers it over people being handcuffed, tackled and more by ICE agents.

Prior to the White House co-opting Carpenter's music for its ICE agenda, it did the same with her friend and collaborator Taylor Swift. A video that dropped in November used Swift's "The Fate of Ophelia" in a montage celebrating Trump despite the U.S. president's frequent social media posts bashing Swift. The pop star did not comment on the video.

Kenny Loggins made headlines in October for bashing the White House's use of his hit song "Danger Zone" in a video that depicted Trump flying over No Kings protestors and dropping poop all over them.

"This is an unauthorized use of my performance of 'Danger Zone.' Nobody asked me for my permission, which I would have denied, and I request that my recording on this video is removed immediately," Loggins said in a statement shared with Variety at the time. "I can't imagine why anybody would want their music used or associated with something created with the sole purpose of dividing us. Too many people are trying to tear us apart, and we need to find new ways to come together."

British pop singer Jess Glynne was more blunt over the summer when the White House used the "Hold My Hand" Jet2holidays viral meme to promote ICE raids. She posted on social media: "This post honestly makes me sick. My music is about love, unity, and spreading positivity — never about division or hate."

Check out Carpenter's post below.

It was a year of huge stars making their way to the Broadway stage. George Clooney! Keanu Reeves! Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal! Bob Odenkirk and Kieran Culkin!

Yet you tellingly will find none of those names on our best of Broadway list for 2025. Instead, our best of the year collection features a far less starry (yet no less talented) collection of names and voices that moved and transported us — whether to the brink of tense race and immigrant relations in early-20th century New York, or to the inner workings of an absolutely audacious World War II British espionage gambit, or to the revolutionary seeds of female empowerment sprouting in a 1970s Ohio rec center, to one night in 1980s Bangkok, or even *back* to the brink of tense race and immigrant relations… this time in late-20th century Los Angeles. Here are our picks for the best and worst Broadway shows of 2025, as chosen by members of EW's theater bureau.

The 10 best Broadway shows of 2025

10. Chess

Bryce Pinkham in 'Chess'

Bryce Pinkham in 'Chess'.

Many a musical theater fanatic let out a gay gasp when it was announced that a *Chess* revival was headed to Broadway. The news on its own would have been reason enough for celebration — particularly given that its songwriters, ABBA's Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, have only grown in popularity among younger fans since the success of *Mamma Mia!* — but then factor in the impressive lead cast of soaring vocalists: Aaron Tveit, Nicholas Christopher, and Lea Michele. The talent bench was so deep that many early attendees didn't even know *A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder* Tony nominee Bryce Pinkham was in the cast. Pinkham's narrator, a new character, steals the show (not an easy task) and is a literal personification of everything this new production improves upon from the version that ran only two months in 1988. A new book by Danny Strong provides context to the Cold War chess tournament story that previously left audiences entertained but confused, and it may just get Pinkham a second Tony nom. (Side note: There's a moment of stage magic during "One Night in Bangkok" that you won't get out of your head for weeks.) *—Patrick Gomez*

9. Liberation

Kristolyn Lloyd as Celeste, Irene Sofia Lucio as Isidora, Betsy Aidem as Margie and Audrey Corsa as Dora in 'Liberation' on Broadway

Kristolyn Lloyd as Celeste, Irene Sofia Lucio as Isidora, Betsy Aidem as Margie and Audrey Corsa as Dora in 'Liberation' on Broadway.

Is it possible to better understand our late loved ones through the stories they left behind? That's the question at the heart of Bess Wohl's *Liberation*, a moving memory play that sees young mom Lizzie (Susannah Flood) attempt to recontextualize her own mom's life and choices through the lens of the women's liberation group that she founded in the smelly basement of an Ohio rec center in the 1970s. As equally charming as it is painfully relevant, *Liberation* challenges theatergoers to reflect on the sacrifices of the women who came before them, the power of sisterhood, and our present-day political perils and how we plan to address them moving forward. And it does it all with endless wit, fiery rage, and staggering moments of heartbreakingly genuine vulnerability along the way. *—Emlyn Travis*

8. Just in Time

Jonathan Groff in 'Just in Time'

Jonathan Groff in 'Just in Time'.

Matthew Murphy and Evan Zimmerman

There's a damn good reason that people have spent half the year flocking to the Circle in the Square Theater: Jonathan Groff is absolutely irresistible in *Just in Time*. The Broadway darling has delighted crowds in shows from *Hamilton* to *Spring Awakening*, but this time around he's taking centerstage… and dancing through the aisles, up the stairs, and on the tables. The show is ostensibly a by-the-numbers musical biopic of '60s singing sensation Bobby Darin, but Groff's performance magnificently elevates the material. He's certainly bolstered by the immersive atmosphere; the theater has been transformed to emulate a '50s night club and Groff obliges, crooning through standards not unlike the famed singer he embodies. The story is simple enough, charting Bobby Darin's rise to fame and the twisty, shocking moments that make his life so fascinating to look back on. But the real magic of *Just in Time* is its ruminations on the power of music, and its dedication to delivering a show-stopping performance, worthy of the man it honors. *—Shania Russell*

7. Stranger Things: The First Shadow

Alison Jaye (Joyce Maldonado), Juan Carlos (Bob Newby) and Burke Swanson (James Hopper, Jr.) in 'Stranger Things: The First Shadow'

Alison Jaye (Joyce Maldonado), Juan Carlos (Bob Newby) and Burke Swanson (James Hopper, Jr.) in 'Stranger Things: The First Shadow'.

Matthew Murphy and Evan Zimmerman

While the hunt for Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) may have just begun in the final season of* Stranger Things*, those who have seen the Netflix series' stunning Broadway prequel *The First Shadow* already have an inkling of how Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her friends can vanquish the villain once and for all. Set two decades earlier, the Kate Trefry-penned play feels like being yanked through your television screen and into the show as it chronicles superpowered outsider Henry Creel's (the superb Louis McCartney) attempts to survive high school, as well as the sinister voices inside his head. His fight against the lure of the Upside Down is bolstered by strong performances from its talented cast, mind-bending illusions, and some serious jump scares that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Are you still watching? Yes, we are! *—ET*

6. Real Women Have Curves

Tatianna Córdoba and Aline Mayagoitia in 'Real Women Have Curves'.

Tatianna Córdoba and Aline Mayagoitia in 'Real Women Have Curves'.

Julieta Cervantes

It's hard to imagine a musical more timely for 2025 than this piece — based on Josefina López's 1990 play and 2002 film of the same name — about Ana (Tatiana Córdoba), a teenage Latina struggling to chase her dreams while protecting her undocumented family. Justina Machado garnered a well-deserved supporting actress Tony nomination for her work as Ana's mom, but this vibrant and devastating story was a true ensemble piece, mainly populated by the group of textile factory workers working on deadline as their community is terrorized by immigration enforcement raids. Though their pain is powerful, so is their hope — that mix of emotions most beautifully encapsulated on "If I Were a Bird," featuring Aline Mayagoitia. Sadly, *Real Women Have Curves* barely got 100 performances before it closed, but thankfully Joy Huerta and Benjamin Velez's Tony-nominated score lives on through the OBC recording. *—PG*

5. Two Strangers Carry a Cake (Across New York)

Sam Tutty and Christiani Pitts in 'Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)'

Sam Tutty and Christiani Pitts in 'Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)'.

Romantic comedies are usually beloved for their familiarity as opposed to originality — comfort food for the heart, if not the head. To that end, nothing in the musical *Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)* reinvents the genre, as it tells the tale of two opposites from opposite ends of the Atlantic Ocean making an unexpected love connection. But damn if it doesn't make for a fun, engaging ride. Sam Tutty is a revelation as Energizer Bunny Dougal, who arrives from England to attend the wedding of the father he has never met. His joyous ode to New York (titled, yes, "New York") — a city he only knows from movies like *Home Alone 2* — is a strong contender for Broadway's best new song of the year. It's absolutely infectious. While Tutty oozes irresistible charm as Dougal, Christiani Pitts brings depth as the far more world-weary Robin, who has her own outsider status in connection to the upcoming wedding. You can probably guess where it's all heading, but will enjoy every step of the way in getting there. *—Dalton Ross*

4. Ragtime

Joshua Henry as Coalhouse Walker, Jr, Caissie Levy as Mother, and Brandon Uranowitz as Tateh in 'Ragtime' on Broadway

Joshua Henry as Coalhouse Walker, Jr, Caissie Levy as Mother, and Brandon Uranowitz as Tateh in 'Ragtime' on Broadway.

The tears start flowing in the *Ragtime* audience even before the opening number concludes. A celebration and condemnation of the United States at the turn of the last century (and, frankly, today), this revival of the 1998 Broadway hit is a sweeping ensemble piece led by the formidable Joshua Henry, Caissie Levy, and Brandon Uranowitz. The historical fiction intertwines real Ragtime-era personalities (Harry Houdini, Evelyn Nesbit, Booker T. Washington) into the lives of a Black musician (Tony winner Henry) starting a family, an affluent white mother (Olivier nominee Levy) adjusting to running her household while her husband is off on an Arctic adventure, and a Jewish immigrant (Uranowitz) struggling to provide his daughter the American Dream. The rotating stage at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre provides a bit of spectacle to the epic production, but Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens' winning score is really all the stellar cast needs to earn the multiple standing ovations they receive each performance. *—PG*

3. John Proctor is the Villain

Sadie Sink and Amalia Yoo in 'John Proctor is the Villain'

Sadie Sink and Amalia Yoo in 'John Proctor is the Villain'.

Julieta Cervantes

Arthur Miller's *The Crucible* received a modern-day update courtesy of a group of badass, Lorde-loving highschoolers in Kimberly Belflower's unforgettable *John Proctor is the Villain*. A hilarious and deeply moving examination of girlhood, feminism, and the #MeToo movement, the knockout production followed a group of female friends who are studying Miller's classic — which, in part, sees John Proctor have an affair with orphaned teen Abigail — just as a series of sexual assault scandals rock their rural Georgia community. Packed with wonderful one-liners, heartbreaking twists, and unexpected pop culture references, *John Proctor*'s stellar cast — led by Sadie Sink — expertly showcased the uplifting power of female friendship. And, as it turns out, we're not the only ones giving it the green light, either — Universal Pictures picked up the play's film rights this year, too. *—ET*

2. Purpose

LaTanya Richardson Jackson (Claudine), Jon Michael Hill (Naz), Glenn Davis (Junior), and Alana Arenas (Morgan) in 'Purpose'

LaTanya Richardson Jackson (Claudine), Jon Michael Hill (Naz), Glenn Davis (Junior), and Alana Arenas (Morgan) in 'Purpose'.

Marc J Franklin

How amazing were the performances in *Purpose*? Five of the six actors were nominated for Tonys. And the one person who was *not* nominated, Alana Arenas, actually gave the show's best performance of all, IMHO, as the in-law who only wants out. But such success is what happens when you put superior material in the hands of superior actors, leading to the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, as well as the Tony awards for Best Play and Best Featured Actress (Kara Young). Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' searing portrait of a famous Black family on the brink brought both laughs and gasps — especially around the dinner table — and managed to somehow do so without causing tonal whiplash from the comedic and dramatic back and forth. Particularly impressive was the way Jacobs-Jenkins' script and Phylicia Rashad's stellar direction gave every person on the stage their big moment without making it feel like an inevitable checklist of giving every person on the stage their big moment. The action (and dysfunction) just naturally flowed into a rich, organic portrait of a very flawed family. *—DR*

1. Operation Mincemeat

Zoë Roberts, Jak Malone, Natasha Hodgson, David Cumming, and Claire-Marie Hall in 'Operation Mincemeat'.

Zoë Roberts, Jak Malone, Natasha Hodgson, David Cumming, and Claire-Marie Hall in 'Operation Mincemeat'.

Julieta Cervantes

*Operation Mincemeat* is an oddball of a musical. It takes an absurd (but very real) World War II factoid, spins it into a farcical drama, adds music, and invites you to watch. And the result is absolutely dazzling. With a ragtag cast of just five players (who somehow play over 80 roles between them), the show calls upon everything from *Monty Python* to *Hamilton* to Beyoncé to tell the tale of a ludicrous 1943 espionage plot. The result is a laugh-out-loud delight, with endless charm oozing off the stars, the characters, the songs, the set design, etc…. And even with all of its flippant humor, *Mincemeat* manages to land emotional gut punches left and right — walloping us with Jak Malone's Hester, and eliciting gasps with its biting commentary on the rise of fascism (relevant!). Quick on its feet and generous with its humor, *Mincemeat* is a breath of fresh air offering complex storytelling, masterful musical sequences, thoughtful themes, and an absolutely bonkers plot. There's nothing else like it on Broadway. *—SR*

The 3 worst Broadway shows of 2025

The Queen of Versailles

Kristin Chenoweth in 'The Queen of Versailles'

Kristin Chenoweth in 'The Queen of Versailles'.

Julieta Cervantes

I still have no idea what this show is supposed to be, and I don't think the people that brought it to Broadway do either. Is it a campy comedic sendup? A surface level social commentary on income inequality? A dark family drama? A French historical farce? In trying to be all of these things, *The Queen of Versailles* ends up being almost as big a mess as all that construction on the stage signaling the me-first dreams of impossible-to-root-for protagonist Jackie Siegel and her mission to build the biggest single-family residence in the country. Perhaps even more bewildering than the muddled story is that a repairing of Kristin Chenoweth and her *Wicked* composer Stephen Schwartz could produce such underwhelming musical results. We declare this entire show a teardown. *—DR*

Idina Menzel stars in 'Redwood' on Broadway.

Idina Menzel stars in 'Redwood' on Broadway.

It's been a tough year for the *Wicked* gals. It might be a little hard to remember, but months before Kristin Chenoweth made headlines for her own disappointing return to Broadway, Idina Menzel climbed a tree and sang some songs. On one thing, we can all agree: Menzel sounds stunning, whether she's on the ground, in a tree, or in an icy castle just outside of Arendelle. But *Redwood* was not the best use of the Tony-winner's talents. A show about overcoming grief and escaping to a place of beauty during a period of suffering, *Redwood* included at least three sequences of Menzel swinging around a tree trunk while belting a sub-par ballad that was indistinguishable from the ones that came before. It was borderline frightening when the show opened with "Drive," a jagged peek into her character's mind that was so uneven it seemed Menzel was struggling to keep up with the song. The show did manage to find its footing, but even when it was on track, *Redwood* didn't have much to offer. The songs were forgettable, the story predictable, and the main character pretty grating. *Redwood*'s biggest offense is wasting its star power. But hey, at least audiences got to hear Idina sing. *—SR*

The Last Five Years

Adrienne Warren and Nick Jonas in 'The Last Five Years' on Broadway

Adrienne Warren and Nick Jonas in 'The Last Five Years' on Broadway.

Any romantic musical two-hander is going to rely on the chemistry of its stars. When it works, as with *Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) *from our best list, it is magical. When it doesn't, you get *The Last Five Years*. Lord knows the glorious Adrienne Warren tried, but there was simply no chemistry between her and woefully miscast on-stage partner Nick Jonas. Of course, the structure of one person (Jonas' Jamie) telling the story of the doomed relationship chronologically from beginning to end, and the other (Warren's Cathy) telling it in reverse did the actors no favors. Nor did the often confusing direction that had the characters occasionally interacting, leading audiences to wonder whose timeline they were even following. In the end, you wished it were neither. *—DR*

Both Morse and Rife have supported each other at their respective shows

Matt Rife may be used to taking center stage, but he also has a leading lady in his life.

The comedian has been dating his girlfriend, Mariah Morse, since at least March 2025. Rife and Morse confirmed their relationship in the spring and have since shared several pictures spending time together on vacation, with their dogs and at his comedy shows.

While Morse has supported Rife with his comedy, she has also secured a successful career as a personal trainer, nutrition coach, bodybuilder and fitness content creator. When she isn't hitting the gym and posting recipes, she's spending time with her dog, Kona.

Throughout their relationship, both Morse and Rife have shared photos with each other on their social media pages. In September, Morse posted several pictures with Rife to celebrate his 30th birthday.

"Everyone knows you for your punch lines, charisma, your jaw line, or good looks.. BUT not everyone gets to see your 2 am zoomies, the way you go out of your way to make a stranger smile, the way you remember the little things, the way you light up any room you walk in, and your heart of absolute gold," she captioned the post. "Loving you is the easiest thing I'll ever do- happy birthday."Here's everything to know about Matt Rife's girlfriend, Mariah Morse.

She's a fitness trainer, bodybuilder and nutrition coach

Morse is a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach who has been posting about her health and fitness journey since 2024. She offers coaching plans that include individual training, nutrition planning and customized workout plans.

When she isn't helping others achieve their fitness goals, she's teaching her over 200,000 Instagram followers about how she has maintained her physique over the years. Morse uses her social media pages to share videos of her workouts, training sessions and meal plans. She has also posted about being an athlete with 1st Phorm and a partner with Alphalete and DFYNE.

In September 2025, Morse took her athleticism to the stage and competed in the Summer Shredding Championship. She took home the prize for Bikini Overall Winner, and Rife was by her side to support her. Morse posted several photos of the two kissing and hugging after her win.

"Some quick bits just stepping off stage after one of the coolest experiences🥹 so thankful for the incredible people in my circle that have seen me at my very worst and still loved me through it, an able body to do what I love, and being around so many hardworking people that make me want to be better," she captioned the post.

Rife commented under the post, "IM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!!!"

Morse often shares about her and Rife's dogs

Similar to her boyfriend, Morse has one dog, an Alaskan Malamute named Kona, whom she adopted in 2021.

Morse has brought Kona on several adventures with her — including hikes, road trips and celebrating holidays. In October 2025, she put Kona in a crocodile costume while she wore a zookeeper outfit to dress up as the late Steve Irwin and his crocodiles.

Morse also reflected on her love for Kona while making an Instagram video encouraging others to get a dog in their 20s. She captioned the post, "not me in tears making this reel while she's alive and well sitting at my feet. We really don't deserve the unconditional love of a dog."

In addition to her own dog, Morse has also embraced Rife's beloved dog, Hammer, and shared photos with the pitbull.

Morse and Rife sparked romance rumors in March 2025

Morse and Rife first sparked romance rumors in March when they were seen holding hands while walking into a club in Rhode Island with friends. The two were also photographed smiling together in a group photo with friends later that month.

On March 31, TMZ confirmed that they were officially an item, but Morse and Rife kept their relationship off social media for a few months.

She confirmed her relationship with Rife on Instagram in May

Meanwhile, Rife included Morse in his first post in a group photo in June. For their first Halloween together, Rife shared a picture of Morse sitting on his lap while she dressed up as the horror doll Annabelle.

She has supported him on his comedy tour

Dec 2 (Reuters) - Michael Dell and his wife Susan Dell will deposit $250 each ‌in the investment accounts of 25 million American children,‌ in a $6.25 billion philanthropic pledge as part of the Trump administration's Invest America initiative.

The initiative, known as "Trump accounts"‌, was created this year under President Donald Trump's ‍One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The U.S. Treasury will deposit $1,000 into investment accounts for all children born between ‌2025 and 2028.

The funds - required to be invested in an index fund that mirrors the performance of the broader stock market - become available at age 18 for education, job training, a first home or starting a business.

"We believe this effort will expand ‍opportunity, strengthen communities, and help more children take ownership of their future," the Dells said in a statement.

When Billy Crudup met George Clooney 15 years ago, the aura was real.

"It was pretty clear: He's George Clooney through and through," Crudup says of his costar in the Netflix dramedy "Jay Kelly" (in select theaters now, streaming Dec. 5). "He truly understands the space that he occupies and has found a remarkable comfort in it."

Flash back 40 years or so, though, and it's a much different Clooney. That guy is bombing auditions, including a reading for Francis Ford Coppola where Clooney's agent told him the next day that "The Godfather" director thought he was drunk. Unlike his title character in "Jay Kelly," who rides an accidental first audition into A-list status early in his career, Clooney didn't find fame until he was 33 as the star of 1990s medical drama "ER."

A role he knows well: George Clooney stars as an aging movie star in the new Netflix dramedy "Jay Kelly."

"That's late in Hollywood life to get successful," Clooney says. "I'd failed so many times. I'd done 13 pilots and seven television series before 'ER,' so my trajectory was very different.

"For me, it was a long journey. It was probably 100 auditions before I got my first paid job. So you get a lot of nos, but nos are helpful. You get tougher skin as you go."

Played by Clooney, Jay Kelly is an aging movie legend who realizes in the twilight of his professional life that he's prioritized work over loved ones. It's extremely meta in the way it follows the actor's existence – director Noah Baumbach even tailored the film to his resident star, making Jay from Clooney's home state of Kentucky. Clooney also happens to be one of the few people who could pull the character off, Baumbach says. "George has this sort of timeless quality as a movie star. He could exist in any era of film history."

Lively and self-deprecating, Clooney talks in depth with USA TODAY about his acting life vs. Jay Kelly's and how he'll know when it's time to ride off into the sunset.

This interview has been edited and condensed for length and clarity.

Movie star Jay (George Clooney, far left) reflects on his life alongside publicist Liz (Laura Dern) and manager Ron (Adam Sandler) in the dramedy "Jay Kelly."

How much do you recognize Jay's life as your own, be it the way he deals with his entourage or asks for another take when he doesn't need it?

George Clooney: Well, I'm a little different than that because when you have as limited an acting range as I have, you really hope they get it in the first couple of takes because there's not a whole lot of options. There's obviously some similarities. The early stuff [in the movie] is really fascinating, acting class and weaseling your way into auditions. I remember I was friends with a secretary at this small agency and I couldn't get in on auditions. You get the breakdown, which would tell you what the auditions were for, and I would then call and pretend to be my own agent and pitch myself to come in and read. If they called back, they would call the secretary at the agency and she would call me.

A piece of cheesecake being everywhere Jay goes is a hilarious running joke. Have you ever had a rider?

I remember I was in New York and the driver, he was pissed at me. I was like, "What's going on, dude?" He goes, "Look, George, I looked everywhere for Fuji apples. I can't find them anywhere." Somebody had asked me at some point, do I want anything in my trailer to eat? And I said maybe some apples. They go, "Any kind in particular?" I was like, "I don't know, Fuji?" Because it was the only one I could think of. And all of a sudden it's in your rider. Everywhere you go, people are climbing mountains to find Fuji apples for you. And I had to go, "Take that out. You are crazy."

A little bit of it happens accidentally with people trying to make everything nice. There's some actors that are literally "I only eat green M&M's" kind of bulls---. I grew up in Kentucky – we try to stay out of trailers. That's not the end all and be all, [me] in a double wide on the set.

Jay Kelly (George Clooney, right) watches his younger self (Charlie Rowe) in acting class in Netflix's "Jay Kelly."

You've inhabited so many different types of roles. What was it like playing an actor?

If you read the ["Jay Kelly"] script, you go, "This guy's a jerk." All of his friends are people he pays, he kind of dismisses everybody. I thought about actors who do jerks really well. Danny DeVito would always be a jerk, but you liked him. Look at how many films Jack Nicholson was just a total jerk, like "Carnal Knowledge," and you still rooted for him. I focused on trying to make sure that this guy was actively, earnestly believing that he's a good guy. If you think he's a jerk, you've lost the plot a little bit.

What kind of roles do you want now at 64? Is there a character actor in you waiting to jump out?

I've been trying to go the route [Paul] Newman did: "OK, well, I'm not kissing a girl anymore. That's getting a little old." You just want to be challenged. I was terrified to do a play on Broadway ("Good Night, and Good Luck") this year. I had a lot of lines. I was worried about remembering my lines because you're 64. What was fun and exciting about it was how scared I was. And it's nice to be 64 years old and not know whether you can accomplish that in a profession that I've been successful at. I'm about to do a movie with Annette Bening – I'm worried about whether I can do it or not because she's such a wonderful actress.

So there's all of those things where challenging yourself is the exciting part still. I don't have to work, and that's a good place to be. I want to be able then to make sure that when I do it, it's for the right reasons.

George Clooney poses with his wife Amal Clooney on the red carpet at a London gala screening of "Jay Kelly."

Jay is coming to the point where he's thinking of ending his career. Will you know when it's time to walk away, or do you want to just keep going till the wheels fall off?

They're falling off already. Leg falls off every once in a while. My dad's [almost] 92 and he still writes. It's important to stay active. I mean, you're a writer. I can't imagine you saying, "Well, now that I'm 70, maybe I shouldn't write anymore." I do feel like because it's creative, you can stay involved and do what you want to do. There's going to be parts for "Grandpa gums bread" and I'll be the perfect guy for it. That's a good thing about the profession that I've chosen.

George Clooney is still looking for new acting challenges at age 64.

Having said that, when I turned 60, I had a conversation with my wife [Amal]. I said, "Look, I can still play basketball with the boys. I play with 25-year-old guys. I can still hang, I'm in shape. But in 25 years, I'm 85 years old. It doesn't matter how many granola bars you eat, that's a real number."

If you give up working, you lose your place in society. But we also have to make sure we are spending time doing things with our family, with the people we love more. Because Amal and I both tend to focus on trying to accomplish things. We've gotten much better at spending time with our kids. Listen, nobody gets it right. I don't get it right. You probably don't get it right. But we do the best we can. I'm not mad at my parents for missing things when I was a kid because they were putting food on the table.
