The 46-year-old says she now has to wear glasses and laughs at the irony

Rachael Leigh Cook admits that her makeover scene in She's All That follows some typical tropes, but she's fine with it.

While chatting with PEOPLE, the Josie and the Pussycats actress reflects on the famous moment when her character, Laney Boggs, undergoes a makeover and finally ditches her glasses.

"How silly, right? People now like to joke that if you made that movie today, that you would get glasses as the movie went on because it's so cool," Cook, 46, says. "It's funny."

The 1999 romantic comedy centers around Cook's character, who is the subject of a bet between Freddie Prinze Jr.'s character, Zack Siler, and his friends. Siler has six weeks to gain Laney's trust and transform her into the prom queen. In the movie, after her makeover, Siler is stunned when he sees her without her glasses for the first time as she walks downstairs in a red dress with a new haircut.

In addition to Cook and Prinze Jr., the film featured Matthew Lillard, Paul Walker, Anna Paquin and Gabrielle Union.

Cook pointed out the irony that she actually wears glasses in real life.

"Now, as I'm more of a grown-up, I actually wear glasses," she shares. "I did when I was a kid, I got LASIK and now I just need them for generally being a grown-up. It's become more clear to me what an awesome fashion statement they can be."

Cook shares that when she reflects on that moment, she is aware that it's a "little bit of a trope," with the idea of a character transforming by simply removing their glasses.

"I mean, Superman did it before us and She's All That, being a remake of a remake of My Fair Lady and Taming of the Shrew, essentially, we didn't think we were reinventing the wheel," Cook shares.

Still, the actress is proud to be part of a movie that is still so beloved over 25 years later.

"I certainly did not know that I was gonna become so synonymous with that, and that's a huge honor, actually," she says.

Cook revisited her nostalgic roots recently by remaking her "This Is Your Brain on Drugs" advertisement for Beekeeper's Naturals, designed to combat allergy season. The spot, titled N.O.S.E (Natural Options for Sinus Ease), stars Cook in a play on her iconic D.A.R.E commercials from the '90s.

She says it was an "easy yes for me" when they asked her to be in the spot.

"This was a much easier spot to sign onto because I was already a fan of the products. I had purchased them recently, so it really felt like a sign," she tells PEOPLE. "I didn't have to smash anything in this one. In fact, it would've probably been frowned upon. So this was a way easier day of filming. That was an easy yes for me."
