During his *Variety *and CNN town hall with McConaughey, Chalamet weighed in on the obstacles movie theaters face in modern times.

"I admire people, and I've done it myself, who go on a talk show and go, 'Hey, we gotta keep movie theaters alive. You know, we gotta keep this genre alive,'" he explained. "And another part of me feels like, if people want to see it, like *Barbie*, like *Oppenheimer*, they're going to go see it and go out of their way to be loud and proud about it."

Then came his comments about ballet and opera. "And I don't want to be working in ballet or opera, or you know, things where it's like, 'Hey, keep this thing alive,' even though it's like, no one cares about this anymore," he said, earning laughs from McConaughey and the audience.

Chalamet — whose grandmother, mother, and sister all danced with the New York City Ballet — seemed to realize how his words might land. "All respect to the ballet and opera people out there," he added, joking, "I just lost 14 cents in viewership. I just took shots for no reason."

Many ballet dancers and opera singers fired back at Chalamet. The Metropolitan Opera shared an Instagram video celebrating its crew with the caption, "This one's for you, @tchalamet… 👀."

London's Royal Ballet and Opera posted a similar clip noting, "Every night at the Royal Opera House, thousands of people gather for ballet and opera. … If you'd like to reconsider, @tchalamet, our doors are open." The Seattle Opera went a different route, offering 14% off select *Carmen *seats with the code "TIMOTHEE" and quipping in the caption, "Timmy, you're welcome to use it too."

On the March 9 broadcast of *The View*, Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, and guest cohost Sheryl Underwood all discussed Chalamet's comments. Hostin called them "vapid" and "shallow," while Goldberg, who pointed out his family ties to ballet, said he should know better.

"Be careful, boy … Don't apologize when you've insulted. It doesn't sound right," the EGOT winner warned. "You can't say, 'Oh, this is dumb, no disrespect.' That's absolute disrespect."

Grammy-winning artist Doja Cat also chimed in. In a March 8 TikTok video that's since been deleted, she slammed Chalamet, saying, "Opera is 400 years old. Ballet is 500 years old. Somebody named Tim-oh-tay Cha-lam-et had the nerve to say — on camera — that nobody cares about it."

The "Say So" singer went on to praise the dedication of the performers, saying, "Dancers show up at 8am, 6am. They show up and they break and they bleed, every single day. Just because they have respect for it."

"They love what they do. It doesn't matter if the industry is having a tough time at any time, which a lot of industries have a tough time… Doesn't mean people don't care about it. People care," she continued. "The dancers care, the singers care, the audience cares. There's still an audience. People give a f---. You show up in a nice outfit. You sit the f--- down and shut the f--- up. That's the usual etiquette around those things. Maybe learn something from that."

Will Chalamet's recent comments hurt his chances at the Oscars?

Probably not. The town hall initially took place on Feb. 21, and while Oscar voting closed on March 5, his controversial comments about ballet and opera didn't gain much traction online until the following weekend. As such, Chalamet likely avoided any immediate fallout for the incident.

He's been considered a Best Actor frontrunner for much of this awards season, but his momentum has seemingly slowed. Though Chalamet took home trophies at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, he missed some key victories that serve as a barometer for Oscars glory, namely at the Actor Awards, where Michael B. Jordan won for his dual role in *Sinners*. (The Actor Awards voting block notably shares ample crossover with Academy members.) Many outlets' Academy Award predictions, including EW's, now have Jordan in the lead.

Of course, Chalamet still has a shot at the Oscar, though some of his past comments could come back to haunt him.

Chalamet isn't shy about dreaming big. During his acceptance speech at the 2025 Actor Awards, he said he's "in the pursuit of greatness" and wants to be "one of the greats," citing Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, Viola Davis, Michael Jordan, and Michael Phelps as inspiration.

That bold energy has carried over into his unconventional, flashy *Marty Supreme *press tour, which may have rubbed some legacy Academy members the wrong way.

In December 2025, Chalamet collaborated with anonymous rapper EsDeeKid on the track "4 Raws Remix," name-dropping *Marty Supreme *and even referencing his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. But the line that really stands out now? "My life is an opera."

That same month, he openly claimed he's delivered "top-of-the-line performances" over the years, but *Marty Supreme *is his best work yet. "This is really some top-level s---," he said.

Despite some comments raising eyebrows, Chalamet told IndieWire it fits the *Marty Supreme *vibe. "This is in the spirit of Marty," Chalamet said when asked about the press tour. "It's a movie about the pursuit of a dream. I'm leaving it on the field. Whether it's the merch or the Zoom or the media appearances, I'm trying to get this out in the biggest way possible. "This is a little misconception about actors and acting: You can have a cushy job on a TV show — if you don't give a f--- about your work, it can be a great lifestyle," he said. "You're making, like, high-six-figures, maybe low-seven-figures. And you're just showing up."

By contrast, he said filmmaking is a grind. "If you give a f--- about what you're doing, these are long ass days. These are 14-hour days, six days a week, sometimes, three months. Look, I know people got it way harder, but I want to feel that grit."

He went on to call himself the "hardest working man," and added, given the unique lifestyle of acting, "Why do this if you're not gonna go as hard as possible?"

As expected, fans were split. Some felt Chalamet was shading TV actors, suggesting that they don't really care about their work. Considering so many Oscar winners — Viola Davis, Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, and even McConaughey — have done incredible TV work, that kind of attitude could have definitely turned some voters off.

Meanwhile, some fans defended Chalamet, saying he was just pointing out how demanding it is when you truly commit to a role.**

The chaos queen returns for season 3 of *XO, Kitty*.

Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) is heading back to the Korean Independent School of Seoul, a.k.a. KISS, for her senior year, ready to squeeze every bit of fun out of it with her friends… and maybe sort things out with Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee).

Season 2 ended with Kitty gearing up to confess her feelings, but Min Ho decided to put his love life on hold to hit the road with his dad and K-pop hitmaker brother. Never one to take no for an answer, Kitty asks to join them, and Min Ho agrees.

They may not be an official couple, but that could change fast. Here's everything fans need to know about *XO, Kitty *season 3, including which familiar faces are back at KISS.

What is XO, Kitty season 3 about?

Senior year is officially here for Kitty, and she has it all perfectly planned.

"She's going to make meaningful memories with her friends, grow closer to her relatives in Korea, and make big decisions about her future. And she's going to define her relationship with Min Ho. For real this time," the synopsis teases. "But when surprise revelations throw her plans, and relationships, off course, Kitty will have to learn to embrace the unexpected."

Is there an XO, Kitty season 3 trailer?

The wait is over: the official trailer for *XO, Kitty *season 3 finally dropped on Monday, March 9, and it comes with a surprise that *To All the Boys* fans are definitely going to love.

"I am so excited for senior year," Kitty says at the start of the trailer, as she and her friends kick off the beginning of their final year at KISS. She's clearly ready to make the most of it, but there's still a lot she wants to accomplish before graduation.

Kitty has already made her "Senior Sunset List," and it's packed with some pretty exciting goals. Among them are celebrating Chuseok with her Korean family, visiting the Lotte World theme park with her friends, figuring out her college plans, and, of course, finally defining her relationship with Min Ho.

That last one seems the most challenging. Kitty admits she always thought Min Ho might want someone who fits better into his celebrity lifestyle, and at one point, his dad bluntly tells her she's trying to step into a world she doesn't fully understand.

Meanwhile, Min Ho isn't loving the complicated nature of their relationship either. At one point, he tells Kitty he's over the mixed signals, and she ends up confessing she might've gotten carried away thinking the two of them could actually become something.

Kitty ends up calling her sister, Lara Jean (Lana Condor), in tears, prompting LJ to hop on the next flight to Seoul to surprise her. Kitty is stunned when she sees LJ, but they share a hug before Kitty fills her in on everything that's been going on. She admits she really likes Min Ho, and LJ gives some classic big sister wisdom: "Whatever happens with Min Ho, we can't just stop living our lives. We have to follow our hearts and trust that it will lead us to our next great adventure."

The trailer then flashes through a bunch of fun senior year moments: Kitty riding a rollercoaster with her friends, dancing at parties, and even being surprised with an 18th birthday bash.

Now, despite all the ups and downs between Min Ho and Kitty, there's still hope. At a transit station, Min Ho spots Kitty on a train, bags in tow. He calls out for her, and even with her headphones on, she turns and sees him. The trailer cuts off there, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens next between them.

Also back in the mix are Philippe Lee as Min Ho's dad Mr. Moon, Regan Aliyah as Juliana, Sasha Bhasin as Praveena, Hojo Shin as Jiwon, Peter Thurnwald as Alex, Joshua Lee as Jin, Michael K. Lee as Professor Lee, Jocelyn Shelfo as Madison, Han Bi Ryu as Eunice, and Sunny Oh as Mihee.

Part 1980s action flick, part sci-fi thriller, *War Machine *delivers the kind of pulse-pounding spectacle we rarely see from straight-to-streaming films.

Co-written and directed by Patrick Hughes, the film stars Alan Ritchson (*Reacher*) as a staff sergeant known only as 81 who endures an insanely grueling bootcamp to become a U.S. Army Ranger. It's an undertaking in honor of his brother (Jai Courtney), who died in his arms on the battlefield.

While his fellow soldiers start bonding and embracing the Ranger dream, 81 keeps to himself and stays focused on making it to the finish line. But the final test spirals out of control, forcing the group to battle a virtually unstoppable enemy.

*War Machine *is currently dominating the Netflix charts, and its open-ended finale hints that the story might not be over just yet. So, will there be a sequel? Here's everything we know so far.

What is *War Machine *about?

Two years after his brother's death, Ritchson's character enlists to join the Rangers and is assigned candidate number 81. Throughout the brutal section program, he quickly proves his exceptional skill and discipline, but he refuses to connect with his fellow recruits. And, despite his prior experience as an Army leader, 81 chooses to forgo any leadership roles.

After 81 nearly drowns during an underwater drill, the regiment leaders (played by Dennis Quaid and Esai Morales) express concern that his PTSD from losing his brother might put him at risk or affect the team. They suggest he leave the program, but he refuses, determined to make it to the end.

As the recruits push through the toughest weeks of training, the narrative occasionally cuts to TV news reports of an asteroid entering Earth's atmosphere, leaving NASA utterly perplexed. That enigmatic celestial event later plays a pivotal role in the recruits final trial.

For their last mission, the team must take out a captured classified aircraft and extract a pilot being held prisoner. But things go off the rails when they encounter a towering machine hellbent on annihilating them all.**

In the epic final battle, 81 rams the machine with a bulldozer, trapping it against a rock wall. He then triggers a conveyor belt overhead to dump an avalanche of rocks onto it. With its ventilator now blocked, the machine explodes.

81 then hauls 7 (Stephan James) back to camp, only to discover that the "asteroid" has split into numerous pods. Now, the entire planet faces a full-blown invasion by machines akin to the one 81 just destroyed — and even more are on the way.

As the siege escalates, militaries around the world have mobilized under "Operation Global Shield." 81 shares crucial tactics for taking down the machines, earns his Ranger tab, and immediately jumps back into the fight.

He soon boards a helicopter to join the counterattack, and as it lifts off, a sergeant on board scans the roster of Rangers. He notices 81, who has fallen asleep after his exhausting battle.

Despite 81's heroics, the threat is far from over. Alien pods continue to ravage Earth, signaling that the machine invasion is only getting started. All the while, 81's true identity remains a mystery — no one knows his name, and the film ends without revealing it.

Will there be a *War Machine *sequel?

Nothing is official yet, but both Hughes and Ritchson have expressed interest in returning for a *War Machine *sequel. Hughes told ScreenRant that he initially wrote *War Machine *as a "fully formed standalone story," but if he ever got the chance to continue it, he knows "exactly where it's going."

"It's impossible not to, as a writer, to think about," Hughes added. "I fell in love with the character of 81, and the universe of sort of everything he's going through. So look, if that call comes in, then yes, I'm ready to pull the trigger."

Ritchson echoed Hughes' excitement, claiming there are already "tons" of ideas for 81. "*War Machines* is going to be sick. The whole thing, we got a whole thing," he said.

In a separate interview with Decider, Ritchson joked that they're "ready to shoot" the sequel right now. Meanwhile, Hughes shared his vision: "For me, I wanted to tell a film that started with the micro, and ended with the macro," he said. "And I thought that was a really unique take on the genre that we were working in. Let's see what happens."

Ritchson even threw in a humorous pitch for a *War Machine *sequel, saying, "81 goes to Paris, and he stays at Le Bristol, and he gets that really lovely chicken truffle soup that they have."

*Sinners* is making history.

Ryan Coogler's blood-curdling (and ear-pleasing) horror hit nabbed 16 Academy Award nominations, making it the most-nominated movie in Oscars history. It's also cleaned up at other awards shows, taking home two Golden Globes (for Best Original Score and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement) and acting trophies at the Critics Choice Awards, BAFTAs, and Actor Awards.

The film is an absolute riot, a no-bones-about-it horror flick heightened by powerful music, confident performances, and rich, resonant themes regarding cultural assimilation.

*Sinners* centers on a pair of twins, Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B. Jordan), who in 1932 leave the criminal underworld of Chicago and return to their Mississippi hometown. After buying an old sawmill and recruiting some old pals, they go about opening their own juke joint, a boozy getaway brimming with good food and better music, the latter of which is provided by their cousin Sammie (Miles Caton), a young, gifted blues musician.

"It's genre-bending, it's genre-fluid, the film," Coogler previously told **. "There *are* vampires in the film, but it's really about a lot more than just that. It's one of many elements, I'll say."**

Below, we unpack the film's ending and dominant themes, as well as its compelling post-credits sequence, which includes a cameo from the legendary, Grammy-winning blues artist Buddy Guy.

Who is Remmick?

Remmick (Jack O'Connell) is a vampire of Irish heritage. When we meet him, he's being pursued by Choctaw vampire hunters. His skin, meanwhile, is scorched and smoking in the sunlight.

Being a vampire, he can't enter someone else's home without an invitation. He gets one from Joan (Lola Kirke) and Bert (Peter Dreimanis), a married couple affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan, who offer him refuge from his pursuers. It isn't long before he turns Joan and Bert into vampires, linking them to a hive mind. All who are converted, we learn, share each other's memories.

What draws the vampires to the juke joint?

Sometimes, a concert can be powerful enough to attract the wrong kind of audience. That's exactly what happens when Sammie delivers a performance that, in the words of Coogler, "feels euphoric... you feel so present that you almost feel immortal."

Reality bends as Sammie plays. Peppered throughout the revelers are visions old and new: African tribal dancers and 21st-century DJs, ballerinas and clowns, water sleeves and electric guitars. The implication is that this music transcends time and place, uniting art forms and cultures throughout history.

That sequence is the film's centerpiece, but it's also what attracts Remmick, Joan, and Bert, who arrive with instruments in hand and the desire to be invited inside. "With this here ritual, we heal our people and we be free," intones Delroy Lindo's Delta Slim, as Remmick watches from afar.

When met by Smoke, Stack, and other patrons at the door, the three white visitors insist that they're not with the Klan. "We believe in equality," Remmick says. "And music." When they encourage him to visit the "plenty of white barrelhouses" back in town, Remmick digs his heels in. He wants the music and community he senses inside the juke joint. "Can't we, for just one night, all be family?" he asks.

Though Remmick begins to turn anyone who leaves the juke joint — including Hailee Steinfeld's Mary, an ex-girlfriend of Stack's — into vampires, he says he'll leave if they give him Sammie.

Sammie's musical talent, he believes, is so powerful that it can help him reconnect with his Irish ancestors. "You're the one I came for," he says. "I sensed you. I wanna see my people again. I'm trapped here, but your gifts can bring 'em to me."

His faith in this transcendent power of music brings to mind the film's opening narration, which speaks of "people born with the gift of making music so true it can pierce the veil between life and death, conjuring spirits from the past and the future."

Remmick's characterization and desires bring nuance to the themes of *Sinners*. The movie explores overt racism via the Klan leaders who target the juke joint, but it also highlights a different type of Black exploitation, specifically the adoption and dilution of their culture by white communities. This, the film posits, is its own kind of vampirism.

But Remmick's Irish heritage (and the importance of music in Irish culture) is integral to the character's impact. In interviews, Coogler has discussed a shared sense of struggle between the Irish and African American communities, given England's colonization of the Irish. Remmick, who is hundreds of years old and has presumably witnessed (and experienced) Irish oppression, identifies with the pain and joy inherent to blues music.

"I think it's not known how much crossover there is between African American culture and Irish culture, and how much that stuff's loved in our community," Coogler told Indiewire. "It was very important that our master vampire in this movie was unique... that he was old, but also that he came from a time that pre-existed these racial definitions that existed in this place that he showed up in."

Later, Remmick tells Sammie, "I want your stories, and I want your songs." And in return, he says, "you gon' have mine."

There are many ways to parse out these themes, whether it be through the lens of cultural appropriation or the loss of individuality that can accompany assimilation. But, as idealistic and well-intentioned as Remmick might present himself, the vampire will nevertheless take with force what he's not given.

Who survives the night?

It's Grace (Li Jun Li), a Chinese shopkeeper helping supply the juke joint, who invites the vampires into the space, dooming the surviving revelers. Her reasoning is frustrating, but understandable — her husband (Yao), now a vampire, is taunting her outside, and Remmick has threatened to kill her daughter back in town. She reasons that if they don't kill the vampires now, her daughter is doomed.

Stack, who was previously turned into a vampire, leads the assault on the bar alongside Remmick and Mary. In the ensuing battle, singer Pearline (Jayme Lawson) and Annie (Wunmi Mosaku), Smoke's estranged wife, are bitten. Pearline turns into a vampire, but Smoke manages to drive a stake through Annie's heart, preventing her transformation. Delta Slim heroically sacrifices himself so the rest of the survivors can get away.

Sammie manages to escape, though he's pursued by Remmick. Being a preacher's son, he recites the Lord's Prayer, hoping it will deter the vampires, but they just recite it along with him.

"The men who stole my father's land forced these words upon us," Remmick sneers, framing them just another tool of imperialism. "You will taste the sweet pain of death. We will make beautiful music together."

Sammie manages to wound Remmick by smashing his guitar into the vampire's head, which hobbles him long enough for Smoke to stake him from behind. As Remmick dies, the sun rises, burning the rest of the gathered vampires. In the end, the only ones left standing are Smoke and Sammie.

What happens at the end of Sinners?

In the final stretch of *Sinners*, Smoke is forced to confront the non-supernatural threat of the Ku Klux Klan. As Remmick foretold, the Klan descends on the bar in the morning, led by Hogwood (David Maldonado), the man who sold Smoke and Stack the building where they set up shop.

Having been tipped off, Smoke lies in wait with an arsenal at the ready. He picks off the racists with a rifle, a Tommy gun, and grenades, but still takes a bullet to the gut, which slowly kills him.

As Smoke fades, he glimpses a spirit world where Annie is breastfeeding their child, who died as a baby. After unloading a clip into Hogwood, he accepts death, holding the infant in his arms. "Papa's here," he says.

A bloodied Sammie, meanwhile, returns home, interrupting his father's Sunday service with the smashed neck of his guitar clutched in his hand. His father, who believes Sammie's music to be sinful, orders him to drop the guitar, but Sammie can't do it.

He drives off, the guitar still clutched to his chest.**

Is there a Sinners post-credits scene?

Yes, though it's less a sequel set-up than a punctuation mark.

The action jumps forward decades, with an elderly Sammie relaxing at a bar after a set. Here, he's played by real-life blues legend George "Buddy" Guy, who Coogler cast as an ode to his late uncle, a huge fan of Guy's music. "He's the only artist that my uncle would consistently get dressed for and go see a lot," the director told EW.**

Sammie still wears the scars on his face from his encounter with Remmick, so he's understandably shocked when Stack and Mary stroll in, neither having aged a day. They have, however, their fashion to suit the times. (Mary's sartorial ode to Debi Mazar is particularly beguiling.)

Stack reveals that his brother didn't have it in him to finish him off during their climatic brawl in the bar. "I guess I was just the one person he couldn't kill," he says.

He adds that Smoke made him promise to leave Sammie alone to live out his life. "It won't be long for you, huh," he says after giving Sammie a sniff. "I could make it so you could stick around, keep touring, keep living, no pain."

But Sammie refuses. "I think i've seen enough of his place."

Just when it looks like things could get dark, the scene takes a turn. Stack wants to hear Sammie play "the real," showing that, despite his assimilation, he still misses Sammie's authentic style of blues. Sammie serenades Stack and Mary with "Travelin'," the same song he impressed Stack with early in the film.

"You know something?" Sammie says after he's done playing. "Maybe once a week I wake up paralyzed reliving that night. But before the sun went down, I think that was the best day of my life. Was it like that for you?"

"No doubt about it," Stack replies. "Last time I seen my brother. Last time I seen the sun. Just for a few hours, it was free."

And with that, Stack and Mary disappear into the night.**

The Andy Griffith Show star Don Knotts was married three times.

Although the actor was well known for his work in sitcoms and comedic films throughout his career, he kept his off-screen life and marriages much more private.

He was married to his first wife, Kathryn Metz, from 1947 until 1964. During their marriage, they welcomed two children together, daughter Karen Knotts and son Thomas Knotts, whom the actor raised on his own after their divorce.

"Dad was kind of wild," his daughter Karen told PEOPLE in 2006. "He was really quite a ladies' man, especially between marriages."

Knotts went on to marry Loralee Czuchna from 1974 until they split in 1983. In 2002, he married a third time to Frances Yarborough, to whom he was married until his death.

Knotts died on Feb. 24, 2006, at 81 years old due to complications from lung cancer.

So, who are Don Knotts' wives? Here's everything to know about the actor's three marriages.

During his senior year of college at West Virginia University in Morgantown, W. Va., Knotts married his classmate Kathryn Elaine Metz on Dec. 27, 1947, per Morgantown magazine.

Metz's father, Carl Metz, who was a minister at the First Baptist Church in Wheeling, W. Va., married the couple in the church.

Just over six years later, they welcomed their daughter Karen on April 1, 1954. Their son, Thomas, arrived three years later in February 1957.

Karen told the Murfreesboro Post in April 2011 that she had a "normal" childhood, although "it was a little surreal" due to her father's fame.

"We lived in Glendale, which was almost Mayberry-like in smallness. It was a tight-knit community, like a small Midwest town in the middle of Los Angeles," she shared. "Because my dad had such visibility, everybody knew where he lived, and fans would come to ask for autographs."

After Metz and Knotts divorced in 1964, the actor raised Karen and Thomas on his own. Despite being a working actor, Karen has made it clear that her father was still an active parent for her and Thomas.

"He was gone a lot, but he was always checking in on us. And no matter how long it took, he would always come home … And he always made time for us when he wasn't working," she told Fox News in November 2021.

She added, "I never felt neglected at all. Neither did my brother. And we did get to go on the set too, which was great."

Although Knotts was best known for his Emmy-winning role as Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith Show, Karen says that in real life, that is not who her father was.

"He was not Barney Fife. That was a great, funny character. But my father was witty and funny all on his own. He was a good father. He wasn't a tough father at all, but he had high standards for us," she shared.

Loralee Czuchna

Knotts' second wife was Loralee Czuchna, to whom he was married from 1974 to 1983. There is not much public information about Czuchna or her marriage to Knotts, including how or when the couple met.

On Oct. 14, 2007, she married Dr. Howard Murad, founder of Murad Skincare, at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. According to their marriage announcement, she is a graduate of the University of Southern California.

She met Murad because they lived in the "same condo complex in Marina del Rey," Murad told the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2011. On his website, he shared that his wife is "an accomplished dancer" and that they love to travel together.

Frances Yarborough

In 2002, Knotts married his third wife, actress Frances Yarborough. The couple were married until Knotts' death in 2006.

Like Czuchna, there is not much information about Yarborough or her relationship with Knotts.

Karen briefly mentioned Yarborough in a 2025 interview with Woman's World, sharing a memory from the end of her father's life.

"Here's the thing about my dad. He had this funniness that was just completely, insanely natural," she shared. "Even when he was dying, he was making us laugh in hysterics. My stepmother and I got into fits of laughter, and I had to run out of the room."

In a statement after her husband's death, Yarborough said, "He saw poignancy in people's pride and pain, and he turned it into something endearing and hilarious."

With a second season of One Piece hitting Netflix on March 10, viewers can rest assured that a third season is on the way.

Netflix confirmed in August 2025 that One Piece had been renewed for season 3, and production began in Cape Town, South Africa, in November 2025. The live-action adaptation of the 1997 manga series first came to Netflix in August 2023, and season 2 premiered on the streamer on March 10.

The anime adventure series follows the tales of the Straw Hat Pirates — made up of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Gibson) and Sanji (Taz Skylar). Over the last two seasons, the group has battled various villains while trying to find the legendary One Piece treasure.

While Netflix hasn't shared an official trailer or synopsis for the third season, the streamer has announced a few new cast members who have joined the adventurous story.

Here's everything to know about One Piece season 3.

When did Netflix confirm One Piece season 3?

During the One Piece Day celebration in Tokyo in August 2025, Netflix confirmed that the series had been renewed for season 3.

Production for the third season began in November 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Shortly after One Piece season 3 began filming in November 2025, Netflix announced that it will include a combination of returning and new cast members. The streamer confirmed that the original Straw Hat Pirates — including Luffy (Godoy), Zoro (Mackenyu), Nami (Rudd), Usopp (Gibson) and Sanji (Skylar) — all reunited to film season 3.

In addition to the show's original cast members, some characters from season 2 will continue filming with the crew, as well. Sophomore cast members who will be featured in season 3 are Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday/Princess Nefertari Vivi, Mikaela Hoover as Tony Tony Chopper, Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0, Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefartari Cobra. Manganiello, Abova and Ramamurthy were promoted to series regulars.

Viewers will also be introduced to two new characters: Xolo Maridueña as Spade Pirates Captain Portgas D. Ace and Cole Escola as Bon Clay, a theatrical assassin who is a "master of performance and precision," per Netflix.

Meanwhile, Ian Stokes, who was co-executive producer on the first two seasons, was promoted to co-showrunner, aloginside Joe Tracz. Matt Owens was previously a co-showrunner and executive producer for the first two seasons, but he left ahead of season 3 production in March 2025 to focus on his mental health.

What will One Piece season 3 be about?

Netflix has not released an official synopsis for season 3 of One Piece, but they previously teased that it will center around Luffy "continuing his search for the greatest pirate bounty of all — the titular One Piece."

Season 2, which hit the streamer on March 10, follows the Straw Hats as they try to best their "fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet."

"Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line — a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn," the season 2 synopsis reads. "As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world's greatest treasure, they'll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies."

At the end of season 2, the crew defeat King Wapol and make a shocking realization about Mr. 0. Season 3 promises to pit the Straw Hats against Mr. 0's organization, the Baroque Works.

When will One Piece season 3 be released?

An official One Piece season 3 premiere date has not been announced, but viewers may have to wait a bit, based on the season 2 production schedule.

Season 2 of One Piece started filming in South Africa in June 2024 and wrapped around six months later in December. In February 2025, Netflix confirmed that production had been completed, and the trailer was released a year later in February 2026 — one month before its premiere.

As of the season 2 premiere in March 2026, Netflix has not confirmed whether or not season 3 has finished filming.
