Women's tennis legend Martina Navratilova stepped into a social media debate in defense of famed "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling over biological males in women's spaces on Thursday.

Rowling responded to an X thread by English columnist Dan Hodges, who was condemning what he considered "hostile" treatment of biological male transgender people who enter women's spaces.

Rowling sarcastically wrote in response to Hodges, "A man explaining to women that they should pretend some of his fellow men are women because that's 'respectful' is exactly what this debate needed. Thanks for your bravery."

"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling said on X this week she's not keen on reconciling with actress Emma Watson over their political differences.

Rowling later wrote, "What you, and many other men, fail to grasp, possibly because you're so used to women coddling men's feelings you see it as the natural order of things, is that while a trans-identified man is absolutely and rightly free to dress and refer to himself however he likes in our society, that doesn't give him rights over women's beliefs and speech.

"I don't believe a man literally becomes a woman when he identifies as one, and as I have freedom of speech, I have the right to call him a man. The verifiable truth of sex forms the legal basis for women's rights and for safeguarding. Nothing reveals your inability to grasp this issue, or your fundamental sexism, more than the fact that you, a man, are assuming the right to dictate to women how they should speak about men."

Another user then responded to Rowling, arguing that the topic of trans people invading women's spaces is a "fringe issue."

Navratilova then entered the debate in defense of Rowling.

"Fringe for you maybe. Not so fringe for the women who are affected by males in women's sex based spaces . Compelled speech is not ok either," Navratilova wrote.

Aoc Ripped By Women's Sports Activists In Response To 'Transgender Awareness Week' Post

Tennis legend and female rights activist Martina Navratilova blasted The New York Times for a controversial description of biological women.

Navratilova has been a polarizing figure on social media for her conflicted support for liberals and opposition of Trump. She regularly slams Democrats for allowing biological males in women's sports.

Last December, she said she was "mad" Republicans have tackled the nationwide controversy of trans athletes in women's sports instead of the Democrats.

"And I am so mad that the Republicans captured this issue – shame on all the elected Democrats who keep silent on this!!! #whataboutthewomen," she wrote on X.

The tennis legend appeared at the Independent Women's Forum's Take Back Title IX rally in June to address the issue.

"Initially, being the Democrats and the women that we are for the most part, we in this group were trying to find every single possible way to include trans-identified men, males who identify as women, into women's sports," she said. "And the more we try to find a way to mitigate the advantage, to handicap, to somehow to include, the more we figured out it's not possible. It's not possible to do it in a fair way, and here we are in a much different position.

"As I got deeper into the issue, I also saw the connection between women's sex-based spaces and women's sports. They are totally interconnected, and I'm sure the swimmers at Penn could tell you all about that. You heard about Lia Thomas, right?

"Now, it's, 'Oh, you're a homophobe.' Go figure. I've been out since '81. Yeah, I'm a homophobe," she said, rolling her eyes. "'You're a bigot, you're a transphobe, you're a Nazi, you're a fascist, you're a communist,' everything and everything in between. And this is coming from the left. I am the left! My people are turning on me. They're turning on us women who speak up for women's sex-based rights."

Brian King Joseph, a violinist and finalist of season 13 of America's Got Talent, is suing Will Smith, claiming he was fired for reporting an incident of sexual harassment.

In a lawsuit filed in California Superior Court on Tuesday, Joseph, whom Smith hired to perform on his Based on a True Story: 2025 global tour, alleges that he was not only subject to a "traumatic series of events" while working with Smith, but that he was terminated for reporting them.

Joseph is suing Smith and his Treyball Studios Management, Inc. over an alleged incident in March 2025 in which someone left him a disturbing message after gaining ungranted access to his Las Vegas hotel room during the tour.

According to the complaint, obtained and reviewed by Entertainment Weekly, the individual left evidence of a "sexual threat of violence," including "wipes, a beer bottle, a red backpack, a bottle of HIV medication with another individual's name, an earring, and hospital discharge paperwork" belonging to someone else.

A note was also left behind that read, "Brian, I'll be back... just us," signed with a heart and the name Stone F.

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to Joseph's attorney and representatives for Smith for comment.

The complaint also claims that before the alleged incident, Smith "was deliberately grooming and priming Mr. Joseph for further sexual exploitation" after he hired him to accompany Smith on the tour supporting his fifth studio album. "You and I have such a special connection that I don't have with anyone else," Joseph claims Smith told him during one meeting. The complaint also details one alleged incident in which Smith's management lost Joseph's bag, which included his hotel room key.

Joseph claims that after he discovered that someone had entered his hotel room, he reported his findings to the hotel staff, a local non-emergency police line, and Smith's management team. One member of that team "shamed" Joseph, the complaint claims, and told him he would be terminated.

The complaint subsequently characterizes Joseph's termination days later as retaliatory and dismisses the hasty hiring of another violinist in his stead as an attempt to cover up Joseph's removal from the tour.

The "circumstances of the hotel intrusion all point to a pattern of predatory behavior rather than an isolated incident," the complaint reads.

Joseph also reports experiencing "severe emotional distress, economic loss, reputational harm, and other damages" following the alleged incident and the termination that he claims resulted from it, including "PTSD and other mental illness."

The musician is seeking compensation for personal and financial damages, with the complaint noting that Joseph undertook significant financial burden in order to prepare for the tour.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's… Henry Cavill wearing Christopher Reeve's original Superman suit.

*Justice League* director Zack Snyder has shared two early test photos of Cavill in the iconic cape and spandex that solidified the actor's run as the Man of the Steel.

"Henry Cavill. The original Superman suit," Snyder captioned an Instagram photo Thursday. "This photo. It was undeniable."

While sharing another, more close-up shot, Snyder added, "With the last image I shared, and this one we showed WB, everyone agreed: Henry Cavill was Superman. That's where the journey began."

This isn't the first time Snyder has offered a glimpse of Cavill in Reeve's original suit. In 2017, the filmmaker posted a behind-the-scenes shot of Cavill in the costume sitting in a makeup chair on set. However, these new photos are more in character and out in the world, showing Cavill in all his Superman glory.

"First test with Henry," Snyder wrote in the caption of the first photo posted to his Vero account in 2017, of which a blurry version emerged online three years prior. "I knew right away he was my Superman."

As Snyder explained during a 2016 interview, "We didn't have the suit made when Henry was auditioning, so he wore the original Christopher Reeve suit. He put it on and when he came out of the trailer, everyone was like, 'Dang, you're Superman!'"

Cavill recalled feeling imposter syndrome in that moment when speaking to * *in 2011. "All I could think was, 'Oh, God, they're going to look at me and go, 'He's not Superman. Not a chance,''" Cavill said. "The actor inside me was going, 'You're not ready! You're not ready!'"

But Snyder revealed that "no one laughed" when Cavill first walked out wearing that suit.

MAN OF STEEL

James Gunn says it was 'terrible' letting go of Henry Cavill ahead of new 'Superman'

Man of Steel 2013

"Other actors put that suit on and it's a joke, even if they're great actors," Snyder added. "Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go, 'Wow. Okay, this is Superman.'"

Reeve played Superman across four films between 1978 and 1987, paving the way for Cavill to debut as the beloved superhero (with his own modernized suit) in 2013's *Man of Steel*. Cavill continued wearing the cape in Snyder's follow-ups *Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice *(2016) and * Justice League *(2017), and also made a cameo in 2022's *Black Adam*.

Despite a promise of more to come as Superman, plans for Cavill to return to the character were scrapped after James Gunn and Peter Safran rebooted the onscreen DC Universe. David Corenswet took over the role, beginning in this year's *Superman*, opposite Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan.

"It was really unfair to him and was a total bummer," Gunn previously said of the way Cavill found out about the recasting.**

What should have been a crowning moment turned out to be one of the worst of Melissa Joan Hart's life.

The *Sabrina the Teenage Witch *star and millennial icon recently reflected on the highs and lows of her career — and one moment that encapsulated them both.

"Aw! Me and [Britney Spears]! This is at the premiere of *Drive Me Crazy *in New York," Hart recalled, while musing over a photo of herself with the legendary pop star, in which Spears is all smiles, yet Hart seems to strain to appear pleased.

"If you look at my eyes, they're very bloodshot because this was what I would consider, if you read my book, one of the worst days of my life at the time," she revealed.**

The 1999 romantic comedy costarred Hart and Adrian Grenier, and took its title from the song of the same name by Spears, released earlier that year.

"We did the press together, and then we went inside to watch the movie, but I was actually flying to Vancouver to shoot the movie *Scary Movie*," she explained. "I was supposed to be the small part in the beginning, that's like the Drew Barrymore knockoff part."

The first *Scary Movie *film parodied a panoply of recent horror releases, including *The Blair Witch Project*, *I Know What You Did Last Summer*, and *Scream*, which famously opens with the shocking murder of Barrymore's Casey Becker.

The satiric version of Casey was meant to be played by Hart, but the role eventually went to Carmen Electra.

"They decided when I did the fitting that I didn't have big enough boobs," Hart explained.****

"I'm driving to the airport, and back in those days, you had the cell phone in the limo, and I got a call, and it was like, 'Turn around, go back to your premiere. You've been fired from the movie.' And I was like, all right, at least I get to hang out there," Hart reasoned.

The teen star had "just been crying" in anticipation of parting from her family, so when she returned to the *Drive Me Crazy *premiere, "my lawyer meets up with me first and says, 'Because of your cover of *Maxim *magazine, you're being fired from your show.'"

Hart could not believe she was about to lose out on the role that had made her a global star: the title role in the WB supernatural sitcom *Sabrina the Teenage Witch*. In fact, the *Maxim* scare proved to be just that, and she continued on with *Sabrina *for another four years.

But believing then it was all over, "I really start crying, and then my dad comes and hugs me. I don't see my dad often, so for him to hug me? I was like, 'Oh my God, my dad's hugging me.' It was just a dramatic night."******

*Sabrina *went on as planned and *Drive Me Crazy *grossed nearly triple its budget. The end of the millennium was not unkind to Hart.

But she never made it into the *Scary Movie *franchise, which helped make stars out of Anna Faris, Regina Hall, and more.

In August, Faris and Hall revealed they signed on to return to the franchise, which has been dormant since 2013's *Scary Movie 5*. *Scary Movie 6 *will also see the return of original co-writer and star, Marlon Wayans, who teased to * *in September that the latest sequel will be "no holds barred" and aim to "make everybody laugh."**

Interpreting a character from stage to screen is always going to include changes — but *Wicked* composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz says Jeff Goldblum is a Wizard of a different color from the one we know from Broadway.

Those familiar with the original cast recording of *Wicked* will recall Broadway legend Joel Grey beginning the act 2 song "Wonderful" by demurely asking for Elphaba's pity: "I never asked for this / Or planned it in advance / I was merely blown here / By the winds of chance / I never saw myself / As a Solomon or Socrates / I knew who I was / One of your dime a dozen / Mediocrities".

But in *Wicked: For Good*, "the Wizard is coming from a different place. He's not apologizing anymore," Schwartz tells *.*

In the blockbuster film, Goldblum's Wizard instead begins the song with an all-too-relevant new intro: "Take it from a wise old carney / Once folks buy into your blarney / It becomes the thing they'll most hold on to / Once they've swallowed sham and hokum / Folks and logic won't unchoke 'em / They'll go on believing what they want to / Show them exactly what's the score / They'll just believe it even more."

"Here, he's obviously telling Elphaba that her point of view is incorrect, and that he knows better," Schwartz explains, "so it demanded a new lyric, and new music as well."**

That wasn't the only change the *Wicked: For Good* team made. The film version also integrates Glinda (Ariana Grande) into the number, given that the song follows a newly added scene in which Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) secretly visits her old roommate ahead of the Good Witch's wedding.

"If we thought of it, we probably would've done it in the [stage] show, too," Schwartz says, "because I think it improves the sequence, and improves the storytelling. It just didn't occur to us at the time."

"While working on the films, we realized that after 'Defying Gravity,' we don't have Elphaba and Glinda — the central relationship — in the same place at the same time for a very long time," he continues. "So we looked for, 'Well, how could we get them together sooner,' and came up with the idea that it could happen when Elphaba goes back to the Emerald City."

L to R: Cynthia Erivo is Elphaba, Ariana Grande is Glinda, and Jeff Goldblum is The Wizard of Oz in WICKED FOR GOOD, directed by Jon M. Chu.

Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), Glinda (Ariana Grande), and the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) sing 'Wonderful' in 'Wicked: For Good'.

Not only did it solve their pink-and-green problem, but "it's also much more persuasive that Elphaba might change her mind and go along with this [plan of having her join the Oz government] if appealed to by her friend, rather than the Wizard, whom she already mistrusts," he concludes.
