What is an Alford plea? Hunter Biden's rejected tax trial decision explained
Hunter Biden has pleaded guilty to federal tax charges in a dramatic twist just as his California trial was about to begin. President Joe Biden's scandal-hit son, 54, arrived at court with wife Melissa Cohen on Thursday in Los Angeles for scheduled jury selection. Hunter tried to take an Alford plea, where the defendant admits guilt while maintaining his innocence, for failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes. But prosecutors rejected the deal, and now he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and up to a $1million fine.
