Bea Kim is the 19-year-old snowboarding prodigy who will represent the United States in the halfpipe at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy.

The 2026 Winter Games women's snowboard halfpipe qualification runs begin on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 4:30 a.m. ET.

Representing the 2026 U.S. women's snowboarding team with Kim are Bri Schnorrbusch, Chloe Kim, Faye Thelen, Hahna Norman, Hanna Percy, Jess Perlmutter, Lily Dhawornvej, Stacy Gaskill, Maddy Schaffrick and Maddie Mastro.

For Bea Kim it's an opportunity that she dreamed of. Not only getting to the Olympic stage, but being able to compete side-by-side a couple of her snowboard idols in Mastro and Chloe Kim.

As an 11-year-old Bea saw Chloe compete and win the gold medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games in South Korea, it inspired her to want to do the same.

Bea saw a version of herself in Chloe, as both are Asian-Americans from California.

"It just meant so much," Bea told Olympics.com. "As a young girl who was getting into the sport, but also as an Asian American, seeing her on such a big stage really meant a lot. ... When I went to those Olympics, I realized that the Olympics is a possibility in the sport."

Are Bea and Chloe related?

Bea and her idol, Chloe, have so much in common.

They both have a passion for snowboarding, and are really good.

They're both from Southern California.

They're both Asian-American. They have the same last name, Kim.

Both have been vocal politically and active in social causes, whether Bea's outspokenness on climate change or Chloe speaking out against anti-Asian hate.

Despite their similarities, Bea and Chloe are not related, but have become good friends since becoming Olympic teammates.

"It's really meaningful, especially just because she's just an all-around fun person," Bea said of her friendship with Chloe to Olympics.com.

Bea is Korean and Japanese-American, while Chloe is second-generation Korean-American as her parents, Boran Yoon Kim and Jong Jin Kim, migrated from South Korea during the country's authoritarian era.

Bea is from Palos Verdes of southwestern Los Angeles County. And Chloe is from Torrance, which neighbors Palos Verdes.
