The Oscar winner, 52, stars in the new movie Jimpa, which examines dynamics in a family with members spanning the LGBTQ+ spectrum.
In a Thursday, Feb. 5 interview with Them on the topic, the Heartstopper star, who is married to husband Ed Sinclair, said, "I think it's a community that I love being welcomed into."
"I find the most loving and the most beautiful stories are from that community. And I feel really honored to be welcomed," she said.
"Throughout my whole life, I've had arguments with people where I've always felt sort of nonbinary," she added. "Don't make that a big sort of title! But I've never felt massively feminine in my being female. I've always described myself to my husband as a gay man. And he goes, 'Yeah, I get that.' So I do feel at home and at ease. I feel like I have a foot in various camps. I know many people who do."

Colman, who won an Academy Award for her performance in The Favourite, first met her husband Sinclair when they were university students in the U.K. They married in 2001 and share two sons: Finn, born in 2005, and Hall, born in 2007, as well as a daughter whom they welcomed in 2015.
In Colman's interview with Them, she also noted that she does not "really spend an awful lot of time with people who are very staunchly heterosexual."
"The men I know and love are very in touch with all sides of themselves," she said.
Jimpa follows Colman as a filmmaker named Hannah, who travels with her nonbinary transgender teenager Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde) to visit their grandfather Jimpa (John Lithgow), who is gay, in Amsterdam.

"When Frances expresses a desire to stay with Jimpa for a year abroad, Hannah is forced to reconsider her parenting beliefs and the stories she has long told about her family," a synopsis reads.
"As Jimpa faces the difficulties of aging as a gay man in a generation that never expected to grow old and Frances grapples with the disappointment of heroes falling short of their ideals, Hannah learns to navigate the differing perspectives of her father and her child."
Jimpa is playing in theaters in New York and Los Angeles now.
