Ukraine's national sports minister said Wednesday that officials from the country would not attend the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games, in protest over a decision to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete under their national flags.

The International Paralympic Committee has lifted a ban in place for three years on athletes from Russia and its ally Belarus competing under their national flags. The ban was issued in response to Russia's ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

"The IPC can confirm that NPC [National Paralympic Committee] Russia has been awarded a total of six slots: two in Para alpine skiing (one male, one female), two in Para cross-country skiing (one male, one female), and two in Para snowboard (both male)," the committee said in a statement. "NPC Belarus has been awarded four slots in total, all in cross-country skiing (one male and three female)."

The 2026 Paralympics begin on March 6.

Immediately after the invasion in February 2022, the International Olympic Committee effectively barred Russian and Belarusian athletes from competing in Olympic and Paralympic Games under their national flags.

A decision the following year permitted athletes from those countries to participate in Olympic Games as neutral competitors, but national symbols, including flags, anthems and team uniforms, remained prohibited.

Ukraine's Minister of Youth and Sports, Matvii Bidnyi, strongly condemned the decision and said officials from the country would not take part in any Paralympic events, though Ukrainian athletes would still compete.

"The decision by the Paralympics organisers to allow killers and their accomplices to compete at the Paralympic Games under national flags is both disappointing and outrageous," he wrote on social media.

He stressed that Ukrainian athletes — who have often performed well in Paralympic competition, finishing second on the medals table at the 2022 Beijing Games — would not take part in the boycott.

Some European officials also condemned the decision to let Russian and Belarusian athletes compete under their flags - which could, if the country takes a gold medal, see the first playing of Russia's national anthem at an Olympic or Paralympic event in years.

European Union Commissioner for Sport Glenn Micallef said he would join Ukraine in boycotting the Paralympics opening ceremony, calling the decision to allow Russian athletes to compete under their national flag "unacceptable."

"While Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine continues, I cannot support the reinstatement of national symbols, flags, anthems and uniforms that are inseparable from that conflict," Micallef said.

Lisa Nandy, the U.K. Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, also condemned the decision.

"Allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete under their own flags while the brutal invasion of Ukraine continues sends a terrible message," Nandy said, calling it "completely the wrong decision" and urging the IPC to "reconsider this decision urgently."

The debate highlights the challenge for Games organizers of keeping the Olympics as free as possible of politics. Earlier this month, Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych was disqualified from the Winter Olympics for wearing a "helmet of memory" depicting Ukrainian athletes killed in the war with Russia.

CBS News has asked the International Paralympic Committee to comment on the decision to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete under their flags.

Mark Pope can do what John Calipari never did — make Kentucky a football school

Mark Pope is attempting to pull off the unthinkable, a feat Mark Stoops never had a prayer of achieving. He's turning Kentucky into a football school.

Seriously, after Kentucky lost to Georgia inside Rupp Arena on Feb. 17 for the first time since 2009, spring practice can't get arrive quickly enough in the Bluegrass State.

OK, so one look at the Rupp environment tells you Big Blue Nation remains ravenous for hoops — and particularly hungry for a team that plays better than this one did in an 86-78 upset loss that serves as the latest rebuke of Pope's second season.

John Calipari once made sure everyone, including Stoops, knew Kentucky is "a basketball school," and Georgia is a football school.

Well, that makes this weird, then.

March Sadness: College basketball's 10 most disappointing teams

Bracketology: Who is rising in latest March Madness predictions

Kentucky is unranked and not about to be ranked after a home loss to a bubble team.

"We feel like we got a beautiful Ferrari, and we can't wait to take it for a spin," Pope told reporters before the season.

Those mega millions bought a team that keeps stalling.

Mark Pope: 'Disappointing effort' in Kentucky loss to Georgia

What went wrong against Georgia?

"We were not good defensively," Pope said.

Also:

"Disappointing effort."

And:

"They got us on our heels."

Yep, this too:

"We fell apart."

One more:

"You cannot take plays off in this league. You can't get distracted."

Other than that, coach, how was the game?

Buck up, Kentucky. Will Stein's first season on the way

In Pope's defense, multiple injuries haven't helped Kentucky. Also, there's no quit in these 'Cats, at least. Kentucky nearly rallied past another double-digit deficit, just as it did in a pair of critical victories against rival Tennessee.

Kentucky is consistent. It's perfected the art of falling behind by big margins and then furiously trying to erase the deficits.

Question is, why was Kentucky losing by double digits to Georgia in the first place?

Maybe, because Pope's team had 13 turnovers. Or, because Georgia drilled 14 3-pointers.

Best thing you can say about this Kentucky season is it could be worse. These are tough times for basketball royalty. Take it from UCLA. The Bruins are a bubble team. After their latest loss, Mick Cronin said he could "give a rat's ass" about Michigan State's student section, as UCLA's cantankerous coach popped off at a reporter. At least Kentucky's coach isn't a jerk.

Speaking of ass, the Bruins played like it in a 23-point loss to the Spartans.

This came on the same night North Carolina lost by 24 points to rival NC State.

Banners hanging inside historic arenas don't carry the weight they once did. Just don't tell blue-blooded fans that. Though the Wildcats are still pointed toward the NCAA Tournament, this is not the product Kentucky expects, and Pope knows that better than most. Heavy is the head that wears his alma mater's crown.

Hey, it's not all bad around Kentucky. The snow finally melted. How long 'til fall?

New football coach Will Stein signed a top-10 transfer class.

As for Pope's 2026 recruiting class, well, it doesn't include a single commitment.

Not that Calipari is keeping score. Well, maybe he is. He's got three five-stars lined up for Arkansas.

What day do the shoulder pads go on in Lexington?

Stoops, Stein's predecessor, could tell you all about just how much Kentucky invested in basketball and how much he wished it invested in his football program. In Stoops' final seasons, he bemoaned Kentucky's football cheapness.

That didn't stop Stein from lining up Notre Dame transfer Kenny Minchey, who's got the potential to be Kentucky's most exciting quarterback in years.

"We have plenty of (money) here," Stein said after Kentucky hired him.

There's a refreshing new energy at the head of a football program that badly needed it.

Used to be in Kentucky, Midnight Madness would provide a necessary distraction from the doldrums of football season. Times change. When's the spring game?

TESERO, Italy (AP) — A surprise participant in Wednesday's action at the Milan Cortina Olympics had four legs and zero concern for race times.

As elite cross-country skiers pushed to the finish in the women's team sprint heats, a dog wandered onto the course and ran with athletes down the straightaway.

Racers stayed focused as spectators cheered on the canine intruder before it crossed the finish line and was restrained by venue officials.

The dog had slipped away from a local owner while out on a nearby walk, officials later said.

The incident came on the same day and the same course where Olympic history was made: Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo of Norway won his record 10th gold medal and his fifth of the Milan Cortina Games.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Mike Evans clears up status for 2026 | Reports

The 2025 NFL season is officially in the rear-view.

A season capped off by the Seattle Seahawks winning Super Bowl 60 over the New England Patriots saw many streaks come to an end. The Kansas City Chiefs didn't win the AFC West for the first time in a decade. Baltimore missed the playoffs and parted ways with coach John Harbaugh after 18 years. The team that knocked them out of contention - Pittsburgh - has a new coach in 2026 for the first time since 2007 after Mike Tomlin stepped down.

On an individual level, one of the more remarkable streaks came to an end. For the first time in his 12-year career, wide receiver Mike Evans did not reach 1,000 receiving yards. An injury-marred season limited him to 368 yards in just eight games.

He's not done yet, though.

Evans will return in 2026 for a 13th season, per multiple reports. He turns 33 years old in August and will be a free agent this offseason.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Evans No. 7 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He's spent the entirety of his 12-year career with the Buccaneers. Those 12 years featured two second-team All-Pro awards and six Pro Bowl honors.

Evans suffered hamstring and clavicle injuries as well as a concussion in 2025, which kept him out for nine out of 17 games. He'd tied Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice for the most 1,000-yard receiving seasons in a row with 11 entering the 2025 season, but the injuries meant he would not break that long-standing record.

Evans will test free agency for the first time in his career this offseason. Tampa Bay may end up bringing him back; the franchise has $23.9 million in cap space, per OverTheCap.

But the team has young talent at the position in Emeka Egbuka, Jalen McMillan, and Tez Johnson as well as veteran Chris Godwin and could decide to spend that money elsewhere.

Mike Evans career stats

Here's how Evans ranks all-time in receiving statistics:

Receptions: 866 (31st)

Receiving yards: 13,052 (21st)

Receiving touchdowns: 108 (10th)

Scrimmage yards: 13,062 (51st)

Week 1: Detroit Lions wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa (18) makes a catch for a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers during the fourth quarter at Lambeau Field. The play was originally ruled an incomplete pass, but the call was overturned. Despite TeSlaa's effort, the Packers won the game 27-13.

Savannah Guthrie's Today show family is sending their love to her from across the country.

The 54-year-old co-host of the NBC morning show has been with her family in Tucson, Ariz., as the search for her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, continues.

And in New York City's Rockefeller Center, Savannah's co-workers are showing their support. After Arizona residents put out yellow ribbons and flowers around Nancy's neighborhood as a show of remembrance, Studio 1A followed suit.

"We got a suggestion from one of our viewers and we're doing the same here," Hoda Kotb, who has been filling in for Savannah, shared during the Wednesday, Feb. 18 broadcast. "We have yellow roses around Studio 1A and we're all wearing ribbons as we send our love to Savannah and her family."

Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker, Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin, Carson Daly and Sheinelle Jones on the 'Today' show on Feb. 18.

Kotb and co-anchor Craig Melvin were first spotted wearing the yellow ribbons on their outfits and the camera later panned to show the entire studio filled with bouquets of yellow roses.

The two were later joined by Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker, Carson Daly and Sheinelle Jones, all wearing the yellow ribbons.

One of Nancy's neighbors, Laura Gargano, told PEOPLE that the idea for the use of yellow came from another local resident and explained the meaning of the color.

"Some of us put flowers at the front of Nancy's house, while others who may not have wanted to go down to Nancy's house, put ribbons on their mailboxes," Gargano shared. "The yellow ribbon is a sentiment of hope and support after someone goes missing. I believe the use of the yellow ribbons goes back to hostage-taking in the 1970s."

Arizona residents put out yellow flowers and ribbons in a show of support amid the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie.

According to the National Museum of American Diplomacy, the display of yellow ribbons became popular in 1979 when 52 U.S. diplomats were held hostage in Iran. The wife of the highest-ranking hostage started the movement, which was inspired by the song, "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree."

Thanks to nation-wide attention due to the Today show co-host's connection to the case, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC News that authorities have been able to use resources and public tips to the best of their ability.

"I think a lot of that is [the] Today show, you know, you're in everybody's family," Nanos told Liz Kreutz. "So they look at this and look at Savannah and go, 'This is us.' "

Nancy was abducted from her home in the early morning hours of Feb. 1. Surveillance footage shared by the authorities from Nancy's doorbell camera showed an armed, masked intruder disabling her camera.

After the release of the images and video of the suspect, the FBI Phoenix office described him as "a male, approximately 5'9" - 5'10" tall, with an average build.

The search for Nancy is into its third week, with local authorities and the FBI investigating her disappearance.

A $100,000 reward has been offered for any information leading to Nancy's recovery or an arrest in the case.

Anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie's disappearance is asked to please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900.

Over Your Dead Body premieres at SXSW on March 14 and is in theaters April 24

Jason Segel and Samara Weaving go head-to-head in a new dark comedy.

PEOPLE has the exclusive trailer for Over Your Dead Body ahead of its March premiere at SXSW. Segel, 46, and Weaving, 33, star as a married couple who both resolve to end tension in their marriage by plotting to kill the other.

"A dysfunctional couple head to a remote cabin to supposedly reconnect, but each has secret plans to kill the other," teases a synopsis for the movie.

Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, Paul Guilfoyle and Keith Jardine also star in the movie, directed by The Lonely Island's Jorma Taccone in his first effort as a movie director since the 2016's Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

"I've never laughed harder on a movie set," Weaving tells PEOPLE. "It's almost impossible to keep a straight face when you're across from Jason Segel improvising and Jorma Taccone is standing behind the monitors firing off insane ideas. And I genuinely admire the entire cast. The strongest performance I gave on that set was convincing everyone I wasn't completely starstruck by them."

Taccone, 48, says the movie is simply "funny, bloody [and] unexpected" and notes that the film is a remake of a 2021 Norwegian movie titled The Trip, directed by Tommy Wirkola. (Wirkola, 46, is credited as an executive producer and co-writer here.)

"We went to saunas and jumped into freezing-cold lakes together. We made stupid home movies and music videos together. We all had Thanksgiving together in Finland," Taccone says of filming Over Your Dead Body.

"I was the all-powerful father figure and they were my obedient children who listened to every word out of my mouth. Just kidding about that last part," he jokes. "We had a blast together, and it was a joy to make."

For Weaving, the high point of the new film is a blend of horror and comedy that will target "the same muscle in your stomach," she says. "Everyone will leave the theater with a six-pack. That is a 100 percent Jorma Taccone guarantee," she adds. "Please sue Jorma if you don't leave with a six-pack."

Over Your Dead Body will make its world premiere at SXSW on March 14. The movie is in theaters April 24.
