SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Mammoth have signed coach André Tourigny and assistant Blaine Forsythe to new multi-year contracts.

The Mammoth also announced Monday they have signed Adam Foote to a multi-year deal as an assistant on Tourigny's staff. Foote was fired as coach of the Vancouver Canucks on May 19.

Before the team's move to Utah, Tourigny was hired by the Arizona Coyotes in 2021 and was given a three-year extension in 2023.

"André and Blaine have both been instrumental in building the foundation for our organization and will be critical in our continued success and leadership moving forward," Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong said in a statement released by the team.

"André is an excellent leader, communicator, and person, who is extremely well respected by our players and our staff. Blaine's an experienced, knowledgeable, and Stanley Cup-winning coach who has a strong body of work running the power play."

Foote lasted only one season as Vancouver's coach after being promoted from his job as an assistant on the staff but landed a new home in Utah in only one month.

"We are also thrilled to have Adam, a two-time Stanley Cup champion and 2002 Olympic gold medalist right here in Salt Lake, join the organization and bring a fresh perspective to our room backed by years of experience as both a player and coach," Armstrong said. "This is another exciting day for the organization."

Utah finished 43-33-6 and made the playoffs i n the 2025-26 season under Tourigny. It was the team's second season in Utah.

"I am grateful to the organization and feel fortunate to work alongside such an exceptional coaching staff and dedicated group of players, whose collective hard work and commitment to each other have fostered a culture we can be proud of," Tourigny said. "My family and I love being in Utah and look forward to deepening our roots here."

This story has been corrected to show that Adam Foote coached Vancouver for one season, not Arizona.

- Reese Witherspoon got emotional on *Good Morning America *after a surprise video message from *Legally Blonde* costar Luke Wilson.

- The actress said that "every time" she sees Wilson, she stars crying.

- Wilson was absent from Saturday's 25th anniversary event, which also featured the cast of prequel series *Elle*.

The verdict is in: seeing Luke Wilson gives Reese Witherspoon a hit of *Legally Blonde** *nostalgia that moves her to tears every time.

After most of the 2001 comedy hit's cast reunited in New York City Saturday to celebrate the film's 25th anniversary and the release of the upcoming prequel streaming series *Elle*, Witherspoon appeared Monday on *Good Morning America *— where she received a surprise from Wilson after he missed out on the weekend cast reunion.

"Every time I see Luke, I start crying because he's so wonderful and we had so much fun," Witherspoon said on *GMA*, raising her hand to her face as she teared up over Wilson's video note.

Wilson played Witherspoon's love interest in *Legally Blonde*. While the actor didn't appear with his costars at the 25th anniversary event, Witherspoon reunited with Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair, Ali Larter, Matthew Davis, and Victor Garber to celebrate the beloved project.

On *GMA*, he submitted a video note for Witherspoon inquiring about how she honed her accent and overall characterization for Elle Woods, the sorority sister-turned-lawyer who, over the course of the first film, proves herself to be a veritable force in law after deciding to attend Harvard Law School.

"He was so inspiring to me, too, because I came out with a big character voice and a big character walk, and I think I surprised a lot of people," the Oscar winner remembered.**

Of her process, she said she "wanted to make sure [Elle] sounded like she was from California, so she drags her words a little bit" when she speaks.

"I went around Beverly Hills and I watched women shop in shoe stores and how they held their nails and how they walked when they tried on pretty shoes," Witherspoon recalled. "Women just act different when their nails are done and when they have on a pretty shoe, you just walk differently, so I developed it all while watching people shop in Beverly Hills."

Speaking about reuniting on stage with the cast, Witherspoon — who also became emotional at the New York City event — called it a "beautiful moment that was unexpectedly emotional," and that she "cried over and over" as a result.

"It just reminded me of how much it meant to people over time," the *Morning Show* actress said, because she felt that — particularly through Elle's relationship with nail technician Paulette (Coolidge) in the film — the project showed audiences the importance of how "women support each other across every part of life."

*Elle* debuts July 1 on Amazon Prime Video.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) — The U.S. Open summary for Joaquin Niemann looks like this: 71 holes of solid golf, one really bad one, a thrown club, a two-shot penalty and the willpower to not spend too much time wondering about what might have been.

"If my grandmother had tires, she'd be a car," Niemann said Sunday, not wanting to speculate much after wrapping up a tournament sullied by an opening-round 11 on the par-4 sixth hole that featured two tee shots out of bounds and two penalty strokes for hurling his club in frustration.

Niemann shot 4-under 66 in the final round to finish at 1-over 281. It doesn't take heavy math to imagine the possibilities had he not shot 7-over par on one hole.

Maybe more importantly, his 281 put him in a tie for seventh, which means he'll get an invitation to next year's U.S. Open, at Pebble Beach, that goes to everyone in the top 10.

Niemann's 66 paired with a 65 he shot in the second round, shortly after learning his 9 on No. 6 had been bumped up two shots for violating the code of conduct. It meant the only person to shoot a lower round than Niemann over four days at Shinnecock was Wyndham Clark, the winner, who opened the week with a 64. Of course, with that 11, Neimann also recorded the single worst one-hole score over the four rounds.

"A good experience, a good test for myself," Niemann said. "What happened on Thursday and coming back, I was pretty proud of" myself.

Niemann didn't try to deflect blame or suggest he didn't deserve the two-shot penalty for chucking the club after hitting the two errant tee shots, then being rejected when he asked for relief from what he thought might be fire ants.

Play was called for the day shortly after that. Niemann completed his first round Friday morning, then learned about the penalty.

"I was not trying to offend anyone," he said. "I was frustrated. I had my expectations, which are always super high. I was playing good golf. I knew it was going to be a tough week, a long week, a challenging week. ... I'm not happy doing that. I'm not proud about throwing a golf club."

He did not want to delve into the debate about whether the USGA was too aggressive in applying the penalty. Even though the course was virtually empty at the time, he did, in fact, throw the club.

He called his comeback story "something to learn from."

Asked what others might learn from his odyssey around Shinnecock Hills, he said: "Everyone just stop throwing clubs. Just behave."

NASCAR points standings: Cup Series points update after San Diego race

Tyler Reddick lost more of his NASCAR Cup Series points lead after a late-race flat tire in the Anduril 250 on June 21 at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego.

Reddick and Corey Heim, the part-timer who will be full-time in 2027, battled for the win in the final laps, with Heim prevailing before Reddick cut a left-front tire down. Heim earned his first career Cup win at San Diego ahead of his full-time move into a 23XI Racing ride next season.

Denny Hamlin finished 14th and is now eight points behind Reddick, while the 2026 Daytona 500 champion sunk to a 25th-place finish.

Near the Chase bubble, Shane van Gisbergen's DNF erased any buffer he had to the cutline. SVG will get another chance for a good points day next weekend at Sonoma, the last road-course race of the season.
