*Love Story* may have ended, but the Kennedys' time on the small screen has only just begun.

On Friday, Netflix unveiled the first official look at Michael Fassbender as Joe Kennedy Sr. from its upcoming drama series *Kennedy*.

The first season of the new Kennedy series will begin in the 1930s following Joe (Fassbender) and Rose Kennedy (Laura Donnelly) as the former's political career takes off. The show will also star Nick Robinson as eldest son Joe Kennedy Jr. and Joshuah Melnick as second-born John F. "Jack" Kennedy.

The series will also unsurprisingly depict other members of the political dynasty, including Rosemary (Lydia Peckham and Tipper Seifert-Cleveland), Kick (Saura Lightfoot-Leon and Miley Locke), and Eunice (Georgina Bitmead). Other prominent recurring characters include Joe Sr.'s secretary Eddie Moore (Ben Miles), Jack's close friend Lem Billings (Cole Doman), and Hollywood actress Gloria Swanson (Imogen Poots), with whom Joe Sr. had an affair during his time as her business advisor.

Sam Shaw (*Castle Rock*) will serve as the showrunner on the eight-episode season. Thomas Vinterberg, the Danish filmmaker behind *The Hunt* and *Another Round*, will direct the first and last episodes of the first season and executive-produce.

A prominent member of the Democratic Party, Joe Sr. served in a number of positions under President Franklin Roosevelt, including as chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission and ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Edgar Hoover (Eddie Marsan), and President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Toby Huss).

Inspired by Fredrik Logevall's book *JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917–1956*, the series recently began production in London. CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Matt Coronato extended his point streak to five games with a goal and two assists as the Calgary Flames scored four times in the second period in a 7-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

Morgan Frost also had a goal and two assists for Calgary. Joel Farabee, Ryan Strome, Olli Maatta, Zayne Parekh and Adam Klapka rounded out the scoring. The Flames finished 5-0-1 on their six-game homestand.

Liam Ohgren, Jake DeBrusk and Nils Hoglander scored for Vancouver. The last-place Canucks have lost five straight.

Getting the start for Calgary, Dustin Wolf had 31 stops to win his third straight.

For the Canucks, Nikita Tolopilo was beaten four times on 11 shots before getting pulled early in the second. Kevin Lankinen gave up three goals on 12 shots in relief.

The Flames entered the game as the league's lowest-scoring team, averaging 2.47 goals per game. The seven goals ties a season-high output. Calgary also scored seven in a 7-4 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Dec. 8.

Calgary will look to carry its momentum into a difficult six-game road trip that begins Monday against the league-leading Colorado Avalanche.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The 14-year-old was riding an electric bicycle at an estimated 25 mph when he slammed into Janet Stotko during her evening walk, leaving her unconscious and bleeding on a sidewalk in her Minnesota neighborhood.

The 2024 crash nearly killed Stotko, who was raced to a hospital with severe brain injuries, a facial fracture and broken eardrum. But after being on a ventilator for two days, spending three weeks in the hospital and enduring brain surgery, she survived, surprising even her doctors.

At a checkup, she said, her doctors told her, "Wow, we can't believe you're here."

Now, she's pushing for stricter laws regulating e-bikes in hopes that others won't be hurt.

E-bikes offer a convenient, eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to cars, but their increasing use is drawing safety concerns. A study by the University of California, San Francisco found that rider injuries from e-bikes nearly doubled each year from 2017 to 2022, and a University of California, San Diego study showed injuries in San Diego among e-bike riders under 18 soared 300% from 2019 to 2023.

Under federal law, most e-bikes are considered nonmotorized vehicles just like traditional bicycles, so riders don't need a driver's license or insurance and they don't have to wear a helmet. But many states have more stringent rules, and regulations vary widely.

Health experts have called for new laws and better enforcement of existing regulations, and officials in many places are taking action.

Here's what e-bikers should know to keep themselves and people around them safe.

Not all e-bikes are the same

Many states have adopted a three-tier classification of e-bikes: Class 1 have motors that kick in while riders pedal with maximum speeds of 20 mph; Class 2 have throttles that reach the 20 mph maximum without pedaling; and Class 3 provide pedal-assist up to 28 mph.

There are faster versions available, sometimes called e-motos, that can reach 40 mph even without pedaling. Many states treat these bikes like motorcycles, so they're not allowed on sidewalks or paths, but in some states there are no specific rules for the ultra-fast bikes.

As John Maa, a general surgeon at MarinHealth Medical Center in Northern California, notes, it's basic math that increased speeds lead to increased injuries.

"It's Newton's principles, right? Force equals mass times acceleration, and also kinetic energy is mass times velocity squared," Maa said.

Learn where you can and can't ride

Speed limits, helmet requirements and other rules for e-bikes are changing rapidly, and what's legal in one city or state might be illegal in the next.

New York City imposed a speed limit of 15 mph on all electric bikes in October, and Florida lawmakers recently sent the governor a bill limiting e-bike speeds to 10 mph within 50 feet of pedestrians. In Connecticut, an October law requires all e-bike riders to wear a helmet, and bikes without pedals equipped with batteries over 750 watts will require a driver's license.

"We were not only hearing from manufacturers and riders, but we were hearing from concerned citizens trying to share the road with these new electric bikes and e-scooters, and also law enforcement who really needed some clear policies set into place," said Christine Cohen, the Connecticut state senator behind the legislation.

Know your bike

The market is full of vehicles that blur the line between a traditional e-bike and something closer to a motorcycle, and manufacturers don't always make the distinction easy to spot.

To understand a bike's capabilities and where it can be legally ridden, check its top speed, motor wattage, and whether it requires pedaling or operates on throttle alone. Anything outside the three-class classification could be subject to motor vehicle regulations, making it illegal to ride on some shared-use paths where slower e-bikes are allowed.

"The first thing we always tell people is familiarize yourself, read the manual, look at some videos, look at your specific model," said Charles DiMaggio, an injury public health researcher and professor at New York University's medical school.

Going to a local bike shop instead of buying online can help, enabling riders to ask questions, take a test ride and learn what's legal and what isn't.

Follow traditional bike safety measures

Hospitals and medical groups like the American College of Surgeons and American Association of Neurological Surgeons have called for stricter policies and offered safety tips.

Above all, they stress wearing a helmet. Other tips include riding defensively around cars, using front and rear lights, wearing reflective vests in the dark, and avoiding biking under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Experts also recommend against altering an e-bike to make it faster.

Maa added that e-bike riders should consider wearing a motorcycle helmet that covers the neck to protect against spinal injuries. He also advises parents to make sure their children can comfortably ride a pedal bike before they graduate to e-bikes.

"Make sure they're comfortable, they understand the rules of the road, they're able to navigate turns, understand the flow of traffic, the use of bicycle lanes," Maa said.

Minnesota victim wants accountability

After she was injured, Stotko told the city council in her community of Hastings, Minnesota, about her crash to push for a stricter ordinance. The city agreed, reducing maximum e-bike speeds to 15 mph on city trails, prohibiting e-bikes on sidewalks and imposing penalties.

City police issued a citation to the 14-year-old rider for operating an e-bike underage, but no one was charged for the injury to Stotko.

"It's really about taking accountability and ownership of owning an e-bike and operating one," she said.

Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd admits that it wasn't his halftime speech that inspired the Wildcats' dazzling second-half rally against Purdue.

He invited his players to do most of the talking when they entered the locker room trailing by seven and needing a strong second-half push to save their season.

Once Arizona associate head coach Jack Murphy showed the players a few video clips of what had gone wrong in the first half, Lloyd told the Wildcats they were fine and encouraged them to "stay steady" and work their way back into the game. Then he told his players, "Guys, the coaching staff and I are going to leave right now. You guys have a few minutes to talk amongst yourself and figure this deal out. Let's go kick their ass in the second half!"

The faith that Lloyd put in his players turned out to be exactly the right button to push. Arizona outscored a talented, experienced Purdue team by 22 points after halftime, pulling away for a 79-64 victory that ended the program's 25-year Final Four drought and answered what few questions remained about these deep, formidable Wildcats.

Previous highly touted Arizona teams have buckled under the weight of high expectations at this stage of the NCAA tournament. For a quarter century, the Wildcats have found every possible way to let opportunities to make the Final Four slip through their fingers.

Twelve times since 2001, Arizona has reached the NCAA tournament's second weekend. Five times, the Wildcats made the Elite Eight. Each trip ended in heartbreak, from a near miss against Kansas in 2003, to Illinois' stunning 15-point comeback in 2005, to Jamelle Horne's game-winning 3-pointer rimming out against UConn in 2011, to back-to-back narrow losses to Frank Kaminsky and Wisconsin in 2014 and 2015.

This year's Wildcats refused to allow that 25-year hex to continue any longer. They withstood a first-half punch from Purdue and responded with uncanny poise and resilience.

A team that is built on paint-scoring attacked the rim with reckless abandon in transition, off the dribble and on the offensive glass. One minute, it was Koa Peat barreling through the chest of Trey Kaufman-Renn on his way to the basket. The next, it was Ivan Kharchenkov putting his head down and attacking off the dribble or Jaden Bradley acrobatically twisting around defenders for a driving layup.

Barely four minutes into the second half, Bradley was signaling for more noise from an already-roaring Arizona crowd after his driving layup tied the game. Only minutes later, a Bradley free throw gave the Wildcats the lead for good. By the seven-minute mark of the second half, Arizona's defense had held Purdue to just 15 second-half points and the Wildcats were ahead by double figures.

"They'll wear you down," Purdue coach Matt Painter said. "Their ability to get the ball in the paint, whether that's getting an offensive rebound, whether that's driving the basketball. If you look at how they play, they don't shoot and make a lot of 3s, but their ability to get by you. They have such good positional size and quickness."

The signature moment of Arizona's dazzling second half came as the Wildcats were already on the verge of putting Purdue away. It started with Fletcher Loyer dribbling the ball off the foot of teammate Kaufman-Renn, sending it rolling away in the opposite direction.

Arizona freshman Brayden Burries outsprinted Loyer to the loose ball even though he had to cover nearly twice the distance, diving on top of it like a strong safety pouncing on a fumble. Burries then fed fellow freshman Kharchenkov for a fast-break layup, the exclamation mark on a victory 25 years in the making.

Next up for Arizona will be the winner of Sunday's Midwest regional final clash between top-seeded Michigan and sixth-seeded Tennessee. Whoever wins that game will have to prepare for a Wildcats team that has won all four of its NCAA tournament games so far by at least 12 points.

When asked what they said to each other at halftime, Arizona players said that their veterans did most of the talking. Bradley, center Tobe Awaka and fellow big man Motiejus Krivas told the Wildcats that they had been through adversity before and that they couldn't allow themselves to get too high or too low.

Why would Lloyd essentially put the halftime speech in the hands of his players at such a pivotal moment of the season?

"The powerful thing in a team sport is a player-led program," Lloyd said. "The coach has to help them navigate it but when you can get the players to own these moments, you're so much better."

Although the NYT is known for "The Crossword," a larger puzzle for paid subscribers, The Mini has quite the fan following as well. This particular game resets at 10 p.m., unlike some of the others that start over at midnight.
