Lainey Wilson is one of USA TODAY's 2026 Women of the Year, a recognition of women who have made a significant impact in their communities and beyond. Meet all the honorees here.

When Lainey Wilson was 9 years old, she wrote a song called "Lucky Me."

She still remembers every word.

That same year, she got her first pair of bell-bottoms, her first horse and her first glimpse of the stage that would indelibly shape her future: the Grand Ole Opry.

"My mom and daddy brought me to Nashville when I was 9 years old," Wilson says on a video call from Brisbane, Australia. "I just remember going to the Opry and watching Bill Anderson, Crystal Gayle, Phil Vassar, Little Jimmy Dickens, and I just thought, 'Man, I want to be part of this community.' I felt like I kind of already was. I just needed to try to convince everybody else that I was, too."

The 33-year-old, dressed in her signature bell-bottoms and matching cowboy hat, is moments away from performing her second sold-out show at Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Before stepping onto the stage, she gathers her band for a quick dance party, where "really weird moves" are encouraged.

The "4x4xU" singer has spent 15 years building toward this moment, becoming a global household name.

"It is crazy to think that people on the other side of the world are somehow finding their story within mine, but that truly is the power of storytelling and the power of country music," she says. "It just goes to show that we're all a little bit more linked than you think. Even on the other side of the world, we might not have grown up the same exact way, but we all want to live and laugh and love. We've all been hurt. We've been through things. It's my job to just get up there and make people feel something."

Building dreams 'brick by brick'

The singer-songwriter and her older sister, Janna, grew up in Baskin, Louisiana, population 170. Their father, Brian, farmed corn, wheat and soybeans in a stretch of northeastern Louisiana farmland. Their mother, Michelle, was a schoolteacher.

"I feel like everybody in my town is just who they are, unapologetically themselves," Wilson says. "The truth is, I didn't know there was any other way. I knew that I was signing up to tell stories and make people feel something. I sure would have hated to have been anything other than myself."

Wilson's father showed her a few chords on the guitar at 11. As a preteen, she was writing constantly, chasing melodies the way her dad chased harvests. In 2006, she uploaded an EP to Myspace titled "Country Girls Rule." In high school, she booked herself as a Hannah Montana impersonator, performing at birthday parties, fairs and festivals across Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas, even once for child cancer patients at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

With a six-string and a dream, Wilson moved to Music City in 2011. She lived in a 20-foot Flagstaff camper trailer for three years and hustled up and down Broadway to book gigs, play at hole-in-the-wall bars and cement relationships "brick by brick," she says.

"I was known as the camper trailer girl around town," she says. "And there were definitely times when I should have probably packed it back up and went back home to Louisiana, but there was this just burning fire inside of me and this faith that I was given a gift and I was supposed to share it."

She released a self-titled album in 2014, followed by "Tougher" in 2016, which cracked the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. A self-released EP in 2018 helped land her a publishing deal with Sony/ATV and a management contract that same year. Country Music Television tapped her for the "Listen Up" class of 2019 and its "Next Women of Country" tour. She toured with Morgan Wallen in 2019, and her first song to reach No. 1 was "Things A Man Oughta Know" in 2021.

Her songs found their way into the massively successful "Yellowstone" universe. She never asked to be on screen. She never auditioned for a role. Creator Taylor Sheridan wrote a role specifically for her.

Her 2022 breakout hit, "Things A Man Oughta Know" got Wilson a songwriting nomination at the ACM Awards that year.

"I thought, if they're calling me to be an actress, I got to do it," she says. "Showing up for 'Yellowstone,' I was pretty much playing myself with a different name."

Her ease on screen opened new doors in Hollywood. In March, Wilson will star in the movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestseller "Reminders of Him."

"After 'Yellowstone,' my next goal was to play a role where I was not a musician," Wilson says. "I wanted to completely step out of my comfort zone and try something that I had never tried. And honestly, it feels a little bit like songwriting because sometimes I am stepping into the shoes of somebody else and writing from their perspective."

Unwavering faith, endless gratitude

Now her trophy shelf is stacked: 16 Academy of Country Music Awards, 15 Country Music Association Awards and a Grammy, for best country album with "Bell Bottom Country." And that big dream she chased? She nabbed it just days after she turned 32, when she was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.

But ask her about the hardware and accolades, and she doesn't talk about validation. She sees it as a result of her faith, both in herself and a higher power.

"I've had a lot of those moments where I'm like, 'Thank you, God,'" Wilson says. "To tell you the truth, it goes back to me finally getting to Nashville. I'm like, 'Thank you, God. I'm here. I've been preparing for the race. I've got to enter it.'"

Her favorite cell phone emoji is the running man, fitting for someone who rarely slows down. She is always running and gunning, which is probably why her newest, unreleased song is called "Can't Sit Still."

That momentum carries her from songwriting sessions to sound checks to sold-out shows and red carpets. At the Grammys, she turned heads in a black strapless top with dramatic ruffled shoulders and a plunging neckline, paired with her signature bell-bottom pants. The look flowed into a sweeping train.

"I have a lot, a lot, a lot of things to be grateful for," she says. "It's been a lot of just like, 'God, you have given me the desires in my heart.'"

In the in-between moments, she spends evenings on the porch with her fiancé, former NFL quarterback Devlin "Duck" Hodges, and her French bulldog, Hippie Mae Wilson.

Life, she says, is golden.

Women who light the way

Looking towards the future, Wilson says her one word for 2026 is "connection."

And if connection is her foundation, women are her compass. She grew up surrounded by women who carried more than their share: her mother balancing lesson plans with life, teachers who encouraged her and artists who created enough room in country music for her to gain a foothold and make way for others.

Dolly Parton and Lainey Wilson attend Dolly Parton's "Rockstar" VIP album release party with American Greetings on Nov. 16, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee.

"People in general inspire me, hearing their stories," she says. "My family inspires me. The town that I grew up in inspires me, getting to travel the world and meet people from all different walks of life. I feel like I kind of pull inspiration from a little bit of everywhere."

On tour, she sees young girls in bell-bottoms singing every lyric back to her. She meets women who tell her a song helped them through a difficult time. And she works with some of country music's most enduring icons, like Dolly Parton.

"I can't think of anyone more deserving of this award than Lainey Wilson," Parton tells USA TODAY in an email about her friend being honored as a USA TODAY Woman of the Year. "She is a prime example of talent, hard work, and a soft heart. She told me once that I have been an inspiration to her. Well, guess what Lainey? You are an inspiration to me as well. Congratulations girlfriend! I will always love you."

So what does she hope her legacy will be? "I hope people can see that I was just a girl with a big old dream from a tiny town," she says, "who didn't let anything stand in her way, who treated people right, who meant what she said, who followed through, who worked hard and loved people and wrote some damn good songs."

Wilson can still picture her childhood bedroom, the place where "Lucky Me" took shape. Maybe she'll release it one day. If she does, it won't just be a song from the past. It will be proof that the little girl who believed she belonged on stage was right all along.

Viola Davis is not ready to become an empty nester.

The G20 star, 60, chatted with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet at the 2026 Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards, where she discussed how she "can't handle" her impending status as an empty nester. Davis, who shares her daughter Genesis, 15, with husband Julius Tennon, shared that she's not ready to let go of her daughter just yet.

"No, I'm serious. I can't handle it," she said, as Tennon, 72, jokingly added, "I can. I'm good."

The actress teased that she already has plans to microchip her daughter "just so I could track her." In contrast, Tennon quipped that the teen can "call me whenever you want to call me, but bye."

"That's my baby," Davis said, shaking her head with a sad expression on her face.

The Woman King actress told the outlet that her teenage daughter is no different than any other. Davis shared that she is "surprised" when her daughter wants to spend time with her and Tennon, adding she just "rolls her eyes" at them.

"Not really. No, she's 15. No, I'm serious," she said. "I'm surprised when she does want to hang out with us. But, you know, she thinks we're funny. We can't do anything. We can't do anything with technology. She rolls her eyes."

While she may not want to hang out with her parents all the time, the teen will always show them how proud she is of them. Back in April 2025, the How to Get Away with Murder actress made an appearance on Good Morning America to promote her action film G20. While speaking with co-anchor Michael Strahan, Davis opened up about how her daughter's reaction to the film made her feel, describing it as "everything" to her.

"She was so excited. She kept saying, 'Oh my goodness. Mom, Mom, you're golden, mama. You're golden!' And she cried. She laughed," she told the former professional football player. "I loved being the hero to my teenage daughter. Because usually in these teenage years, you just disappear. They become zombies, and you become anything other than a hero."

"Her sitting there watching me like that... It just, yeah. It was everything," she added.

Christopher Meloni is giving fans some insight into his latest reunion with Mariska Hargitay.

After the duo joined forces and posed for snaps on the red carpet of the 76th Annual ACE Eddie Awards at UCLA's Royce Hall in Los Angeles, on Friday, Feb. 27, Meloni responded to fan questions about the outing — and even snapped his own selfie for a Stabler-Benson moment!

After a fan on X shared two photos of the actors posing together and sharing a hug alongside the question, "What's the story here," Meloni responded: "You know damn well what this story is."

Meloni, 64, continued to entertain fan questions on the platform over the weekend, joking that one follower was "BLOCKED" after claiming his "glam squad they did a great job with your hair."

He also shared a snap with his Law & Order: SVU costar after one fan in particular requested a "chriska selfie." Meloni held up his phone and smiled alongside Hargitay, 62, who he first joined forces with for SVU in 1999. Another selfie shared to his X account featured appearances from the likes of S. Epatha Merkerson and the long-running drama's executive producer Arthur W. Forney.

While Hargitay has been on SVU since its premiere, Meloni's Elliot Stabler departed the show in season 12, which aired in 2011. He's been back for crossovers, and Hargitay has appeared in Stabler's spinoff, Law & Order: Organized Crime.

The longtime friends previously had a Law & Order: Special Victims Unit reunion at the 2025 Emmys back in September of last year. At the time, the duo arrived to the 77th annual Emmy Awards together, had a reunion during the ceremony and even left the star-studded event together.

Hargitay shared a recap of the evening to her Instagram, including a snap of the pals walking hand-in-hand. They also joined forces with Ice-T, Tony Goldwyn and Merkerson for the occasion.

Back in 2021, the actors caught up with PEOPLE about their bond over the years, with Meloni sharing that their connection "happened at the screen test," as they both "walked into the screen test, me telling her a story, and we get up onstage in front of all the suits, and we're just so engaged."

"I walked in, saw him, and I went, 'That guy. That's the guy.' It went deep, very fast. We both knew that it was something big," Hargitay added. "I won't say that I fully understood it, but I knew that meeting him was important and life-changing. My father, my husband, [Law & Order creator] Dick Wolf and Chris are the four pillar men in my life. And that happened early."

"He's married an Indian woman, so she comes from this very deep vast culinary tradition, you know, and he's giving her, what was it, ranch dressing?" Lakshmi said

Vance admitted that the dish was "disgusting" when he told the story on Fox News, calling it "actually inedible"

Padma Lakshmi is weighing in on Vice President JD Vance's recent admission of the "worst" meal he's cooked for wife Usha Vance.

During a Fox News interview with Lara Trump in February, Vance was asked about the best and worst dishes he's made for the second lady.

"Usha is a vegetarian, and I am not," he began his answer. "So, I'm thinking to myself, what does a vegetarian eat? Vegetables, dairy and bread. So, I went to the grocery store. I got those crescent rolls that you can get that are very good. I rolled them out into a pizza shape, and put vegetables and ranch on top, and stuck it in the oven for 30 minutes."

"It was disgusting," he recalled. "Like, it was actually inedible."

Lakshmi shared her thoughts on the vice president's culinary creation during a visit to The Daily Show.

"He's married an Indian woman, so she comes from this very deep vast culinary tradition, you know, and he's giving her, what was it, ranch dressing?" the Top Chef alum said.

"Who bakes ranch dressing?" she went on. "Also, he's like, 'She's a vegetarian. She only eats bread, vegetables, and dairy.' You've been married to this person for over a decade, right? And we eat lots of things, right? Rice, lentils, beans, squash, all this stuff."

She concluded, "But, I mean, maybe he knows what she likes because she doesn't really have good taste."

The Daily Show's Desi Lydic then asked Lakshmi, "What's the worst thing that a partner has ever made for you?"

"Well, it wasn't really what they cooked. It was how they brought it to me in bed," Lakshmi replied. "They brought me a cup of tea and my kitchen is downstairs, and my bedroom is upstairs. And literally, if they had committed a crime, I would have caught them because there was a trail of drops of tea all the way up to my bed. And then the next morning I went downstairs and it was sticky. There were drops of honey."

"And you can tell a lot about a chef by the way they cook and how clean they are. Uh-huh. But that's true of men too," she added.

Lakshmi will return to TV this week when America's Culinary Cup premieres on CBS on Wednesday, March 4.

Lakshmi is the creator, host and executive producer of the invitation-only series, while chefs Michael Cimarusti and Wylie Dufresne will serve as judges.

According to the show's official description, 16 elite chefs will be tested on 10 "culinary commandments" during the season.

According to TV Insider, Lakshmi opened up about the new show while talking to press at CBS' presentation at the Television Critics Association Winter Tour in January.

"I've obviously had almost two decades of experience in the genre, and I thought the genre was ready for a shake-up, for a refresh, and for something new and different. And I wanted to be the one who did it," she said.

The mood on stage at Sunday's 2026 Actor Awards was anything but sinful, as history-making Oscar winner Viola Davis expressed shock and delight upon announcing that *Sinners* star Michael B. Jordan had pulled off a stunning upset over Timothée Chalamet.

As Davis ripped open her envelope, her mouth dropped open and she shouted Jordan's name, while attendees rose to their feet to give the *Sinners* actor a sustained ovation.

Jordan won the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his dual role in Ryan Coogler's horror hit, which also recently broke the Oscars record for most nominations for a single film (with 16). Chalamet was widely expected to win the Actor Award for his performance in *Mary Supreme*, after triumphing at January's Golden Globes in the equivalent category.

Davis could be heard shouting, "Oh! Oh! Oh!" as the camera cut to Jordan making his way up to join her on stage, with a later shot showing Davis beaming while Jordan received congratulatory gestures from the audience. As Jordan joined Davis, she embraced her friend before he gave a moving speech about rising through the ranks of Hollywood to achieve his newfound status as a SAG winner.

"I don't even know where to begin. I wasn't expecting this at all. And I just want to quickly say that I'm so honored and privileged to be nominated in categories with people, actors, and humans that I love, I love their work and what you contribute to our craft," Jordan said. "This ride has been unbelievable. Thank you for welcoming me in and making me feel seen."

The live shot also cut to Chalamet clapping for Jordan from his seat at the *Marty Supreme* cast table.

Not long after at the Actor Awards, the *Sinners* cast won the night's top competitive prize, as Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, Miles Caton, Delroy Lindo, Hailee Steinfeld, and more won the SAG-AFTRA union's award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Jordan's solo victory at the Actor Awards — formerly known as the SAG Awards — throws the Oscars' Best Actor category into a bit of chaos, as Chalamet was previously thought to be the frontrunner, one year after he scored another Best Actor nomination from the Academy for his performance as Bob Dylan in* A Complete Unknown*.

Chalamet's 2025 Actor Awards acceptance speech for that role also captured interest, as he set a momentous goal for himself on stage at the event — and even referenced Davis by name when telling the audience that he wanted to be "one of the greats" in his field.

"I'm inspired by the greats. I'm inspired by the greats here tonight," he said. "I'm as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I'm deeply grateful to that. This [award] doesn't signify that, but it's a little more ammo, a little more fuel to keep going. Thank you so much."

Who is the best *Survivor* winner ever? Ask 10 *Survivor* fans and you may get 10 different answers. Which is part of the fun of the question.

Hardcore *Survivor* fans love to discuss and debate the intricacies of the game and their favorite seasons and winners in the same way that sports fans enjoy chattering nonstop about their teams.

But what do most fans think when posed with the question of whose the greatest *Survivor* winner ever? Let's find out!

EW has put together a bracket with all 49 season *Survivor* winners, with a match-up happening every day until the best of the best is crowned at the *Survivor 50* finale. And then the winner of *Survivor 50* can take on the king or queen of the bracket to see who comes out on top there.

Because common math tells us that 49 does not equal 64, some winners have received first round byes from **'s panel of *Survivor* experts and already advanced to the second round. Also, the two-time winners Sandra Diaz-Twine and Tony Vlachos are guaranteed on making it to the second round since *Heroes vs. Villains* Sandra defeated *Pearl Islands* Sandra in round one, and *Cagayan* Tony will take on *Winners at War* Tony. The rest is all up to you!

Exclusive video, interviews, breaking news, games, polls, and more!

Think Chris Underwood is highly underrated? Have at it! Believe Kim Spradlin-Wolfe wasn't actually that dominant? I mean… that sounds crazy, but the vote is yours to make!

Our second matchup featured *Gabon* champion Bob Crowley against *Kaoh Rong* title holder Michele Fitzgerald. This one was a good old fashioned final Tribal Council rout with Michele clocking the victory with 70 percent of the vote. That means Michele will take on Sandra in round two.

As for today's matchup , Sophie Clarke from *South Pacific *will be going up against *David vs. Goliath*'s Nick Wilson, for the right to take on Tina Wesson in round two. Will So-fierce rule once again, or will the man with a million alliance nicknames come out on top? That's up to you. Vote for your favorite below, and then come back here tomorrow for the results and weigh in on the next battle. Because now the winners truly are at war!
