Dean Franklin, a former contestant on The Voice UK, has died just weeks after he was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer. He was 36.

The singer-songwriter, from London, died on Saturday, Feb. 7, his mother Marie confirmed in a Facebook post.

"As a family, we are truly heartbroken to announce that our precious boy, Dean Franklin who fought so courageously over 8 weeks and 3 days passed over at 21.39pm last night," Marie wrote on Feb. 8, alongside a photo of Franklin in a hospital bed. "He was surrounded by love."

She continued, "I have been getting MSG's from people this morning and wanted as his ma to manifest my son's courage to share with you all. As a family, we will post in more length when we are able."

"Until then, please know that the love you gave to our Dean and all of us has meant so very much 🙏🏼❤️," Marie concluded.

Franklin revealed to fans that he had been diagnosed with cancer in an emotional video shared on Instagram in December. The father of one routinely posted health updates in the weeks after, with the last shared on Jan. 30.

"Over the last few weeks, my life has changed very fast," said Franklin on Instagram at the time. "What started as esophageal cancer ended up spreading aggressively to my liver and weirdly, I had almost no symptoms from the oesophagus itself."

Having then candidly described his health challenges, he continued, "Sometimes cancer doesn't shout where it starts. Sometimes it whispers and shows itself somewhere else."

"Right now, I'm in palliative care while still continuing treatment. I've chosen to keep fighting with chemo even though it has been incredibly tough," said Franklin. "Some days have been harder than others, especially the nighttime."

He concluded by expressing gratitude for everyone supporting him, saying, "Every bit of love, I feel every single piece of it.

"If there's one thing that I'd ask is please listen to your body, push for answers, don't ignore changes and early checks really, really do matter," said Franklin.

The street performer impressed the judges during the blind auditions of the 2016 season of The Voice UK, leading Paloma Faith to mentor him.

"You are so brave xxx," Faith, 44, commented on a Jan. 25 health update he shared on Instagram.

A GoFundMe page Franklin set up before his death has almost achieved its $48,000 goal. The singer wrote in the fundraiser's description that he needed financial support while unable to work because of his cancer treatment and to support his daughter.

"This is not about giving up. It is about giving me peace of mind," Franklin wrote. "Knowing that my daughter will be supported, and that practical worries will not take away from the time I have now."

The hard-hitting statement from the palace about the former Prince Andrew marks a "seminal shift" in thinking, a royal author says

King Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton made statements on Feb. 9 supporting the "victims" of Jeffrey Epstein

The latest allegations suggest Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor may have shared confidential information with the late sex offender, a claim that police are assessing

A mood shift appears to be underway regarding the British royal family and the former Prince Andrew.

Breaking their silence on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's ties to Jeffrey Epstein since the Department of Justice released the latest related files, Buckingham Palace released a statement on Feb. 9 that they won't stand in the way of the police if they have questions for King Charles' brother.

Russell Myers, author of the upcoming William and Catherine: The Monarchy's New Era: The Inside Story, tells PEOPLE, "Certainly, there is an appetite at both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace for Andrew to do the right thing by his conscience and speak to U.S. investigators if he has any information."

In the wake of news that the Thames Valley Police is investigating a complaint alleging that Andrew shared confidential information related to his role as a trade envoy with Jeffrey Epstein, a spokesperson for the monarch said, "The King has made clear, in words and through unprecedented actions, his profound concern at allegations which continue to come to light in respect of Mr. Mountbatten-Windsor's conduct."

"While the specific claims in question are for Mr. Mountbatten-Windsor to address, if we are approached by Thames Valley Police, we stand ready to support them as you would expect," the palace spokesperson added.

Myers tells PEOPLE, "Buckingham Palace announcing that they stand ready to assist the police in any investigation is a seminal moment for the royal family. By referring to the former Duke of York as Mr. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor in public and expressing that he is purely a private citizen is a clear indication that Andrew is on his own and will no longer be protected by the royal family, by the institution."

He adds, "This course of action should have been taken many years ago."

The words from Buckingham Palace came just hours after the first statement since the release of the Epstein files from Kate Middleton and Prince William. In it, they showed their support for the victims of Epstein. "I can confirm the Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations. Their thoughts remain focused on the victims," a spokesperson told PEOPLE.

Myers is with Prince William in Saudi Arabia, where the royal is spending three days on an official tour on behalf of the U.K. government.

"In Saudi Arabia, William was as professional as ever. But there is a deep feeling that the latest revelations in the Epstein scandal have the capacity to overshadow what they are trying to achieve," Myers says.

"It's an important step for both William and Catherine to not only convey their personal feelings on the allegations but also publicly state that they stand with the victims."

Myers, whose book is published in March, says that the couple "have found the disturbing claims in the Epstein files profoundly concerning, and they wanted to let it be known that they stand with the victims at the center of this."

After Andrew stepped back from his royal duties in 2019, the late Queen Elizabeth stripped her second son of his military titles and patronages in January 2022, after a judge rejected his attempt to have Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre's sexual assault lawsuit against him dismissed. Andrew has repeatedly denied Giuffre's allegations and reached a settlement with her in 2022.

King Charles removed all of Andrew's royal titles and honors in October 2025 and ordered him to surrender the lease on his home, Royal Lodge. The former prince moved out of the 30-room residence last week and is now living on the royal family's private estate at Sandringham, Norfolk.

Myers, who is royal editor of the Daily Mirror, adds of the latest revelations, including that convicted sex offender Epstein spent time as a guest at royal residences, "Epstein was allowed to enter the heart of the institution. And while the King and the Prince and Princess of Wales may have had no idea about the actual closeness of Andrew and Epstein's relationship, it now affects them and their futures."

"This week, William has had one of the most diplomatically sensitive missions of his public life, where his role as a member of the monarchy and being in Saudi Arabia at the request of the British government, but it threatens to be overshadowed by this. It's stopping them from doing their jobs."

Marc Anthony has broken his silence on the Beckham family feud after his name came up amid the drama.

The 57-year-old singer is a close friend of the Beckham family, and Brooklyn named him in his brutal statement attacking his parents — David and Victoria — when referencing his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz.

Anthony called the Beckham family feud "unfortunate."

"They're a wonderful, wonderful family," Anthony told the Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Monday. "I've known them since before the kids were born. I'm godfather to Cruz. I'm really close to the family."

The singer was dragged into the Beckham family drama after Brooklyn claimed his mom, Victoria, "hijacked" his first dance with his wife, Nicola Peltz, which was set to be performed by Anthony. Instagram/ Nicola Peltz Beckham

"But I have nothing to say about what happened there. It's extremely unfortunate how it's playing out — but [how it's playing out] is hardly the truth," he added.

In Brooklyn's shocking public statement he shared via Instagram Stories in January, he claimed his mom "hijacked" his first dance with Peltz at their wedding reception and then "danced very inappropriately" on him, leaving him "uncomfortable" and "humiliated."

"In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead," Brooklyn wrote.

A source later told Page Six that the moment in question was not the couple's very first dance, but happened after they, their family and other guests had already been dancing for a while — when Anthony took the stage to perform.

The Grammy-winning singer was apparently supposed to introduce Brooklyn, 26, and Peltz, 31, who would then dance on a specially built stage.

"It was meant to be the big romantic first dance," a second wedding insider told us. "It was pre-determined specifically for Nicola and Brooklyn."

Instead, Anthony called Brooklyn up to dance with "the most beautiful woman in the room" — not the new bride, but Victoria.

The first guest told Page Six that Victoria "got up on stage and wrapped her arms around Brooklyn" and "nuzzled into his neck."

In Brooklyn's scathing public attack on his parents, he claimed they repeatedly tried to ruin his marriage to Peltz and noted that he didn't want to reconcile with them. victoriabeckham/Instagram

Brooklyn also covered up his tattoos dedicated to his dad, David, and his siblings Romeo, Cruz and Harper. BACKGRID

"She was dancing with him very inappropriately. She took that moment from Nicola, that is the God's truth."

The guest added, "Nicola ran out crying. The Beckhams' side of the room was cheering and the Peltz side was quiet."

In Brooklyn's statement, he noted that he did not want to reconcile with his family.

Since then, his siblings — Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14 — have put on a united front supporting their parents.

Romeo unveiled his new tattoo on the back of his neck reading "family" on Sunday, a pointed choice after Brooklyn's decision to cover up his right arm tattoo dedicated to his dad as well as the ink on his fingers once dedicated to his siblings.

A source close to the Guthrie family is pushing back on reports about how Nancy Guthrie was discovered missing on Sunday, Feb. 1, saying key details of the timeline have been reported incorrectly.

Early reporting indicated that Nancy Guthrie had been scheduled to attend an in-person church service in Tucson that morning and was reported missing after she failed to show up. According to the family source, that account is not accurate.

The source told Fox News that for years — dating back to the COVID pandemic — Nancy and a small group of close friends had a standing Sunday routine that did not involve attending church in person. Instead, the group would gather at one another's homes to watch a New York–based church service via livestream.

The service was broadcast live from a New York church attended by Savannah Guthrie, the longtime "Today" show co-anchor and Nancy Guthrie's daughter.

On Sunday, Feb. 1, Nancy was expected to be at a friend's home to watch the livestream, as she had done every week. When she failed to arrive, members of the friend group became concerned.

According to the source, one of the friends contacted Annie — Nancy's daughter and Savannah Guthrie's sister — to report that Nancy had not shown up and could not be located.

The source emphasized that Nancy was never scheduled to attend a Tucson church service that day, contrary to some reports, and said the misunderstanding has led to confusion about the circumstances surrounding when she was first reported missing.

As the search intensified, Savannah Guthrie made an emotional public plea for help, describing the situation as an "hour of desperation" as authorities investigated an alleged ransom note tied to her mother's disappearance.

Savannah urged anyone with information to come forward as investigators worked against a looming deadline outlined in the note, which authorities have not publicly authenticated.

The final deadline outlined in the alleged ransom note passed Monday night without any proof of life or resolution.

FBI agents canvass homes near Nancy Guthrie's home in Tucson, Friday, Feb. 6, 2026. Guthrie was last seen on Saturday night as an investigation into her disappearance continues.

At the same time, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said it was pursuing what it described as "new leads" in the case but confirmed investigators have not identified any suspects, persons of interest or vehicles connected to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.

"The investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance remains active and ongoing," a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed Monday evening.

"We understand the significant public interest in this case; however, investigators need time and space to do their work. If and when relevant information becomes available, it will be shared," the spokesperson added.

The department said there are no press briefings scheduled at this time, but noted a press conference would be called if a significant development occurs.

Sheriff's officials also confirmed an active law enforcement presence will continue at the Guthrie residences through the night and into Tuesday as part of the ongoing investigation, including expanded search efforts and follow-up on new leads.

"To preserve the integrity of this criminal investigation, details of that process are not being released at this time," authorities said.

Officials emphasized the scale of the public response so far.

The U.S. said Monday that it hit a vessel allegedly transporting drugs in the eastern Pacific, killing two people and leaving one survivor in the second such strike in the past four days.

Citing "intelligence," U.S. Southern Command said Monday on X that the vessel "was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations."

"Two narco-terrorists were killed and one survived the strike," it said, adding that the Coast Guard was activated for search-and-rescue operations.

The Coast Guard did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The U.S. largely eased off attacks on boats in the region after the Jan. 3 arrest and removal of then-President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela. Maduro, who is being held in a New York jail, has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, which include narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation conspiracy.

The U.S. renewed the boat strikes in late January.

The Trump administration has argued that the dozens of strikes, which began in September and have killed at least 120 people, are necessary to help stop the flow of illicit drugs into the U.S.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who met with President Donald Trump last week, has repeatedly decried the U.S. strikes in the region, comparing them to war crimes. Colombian citizens have been injured or killed in previous strikes.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United Nations said Monday it's waiting to find out how much of the nearly $4 billion the United States owes the world organization the Trump administration intends to pay and when the money will arrive.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned last week that the world body faces "imminent financial collapse" unless its financial rules are overhauled or all 193 member nations pay their dues, a message clearly directed at the United States.

The U.S. owes $2.196 billion to the U.N.'s regular operating budget, including $767 million for this year, according to a U.N. official. The U.S. also owes $1.8 billion for the separate budget for the U.N.'s far-flung peacekeeping operations, and that also will rise.

The U.S. Mission to the United Nations confirmed that U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz said the Trump administration planned to make a significant down payment on its arrears in a matter of weeks, with the final amount still to be determined. His comments were first reported by Reuters.

U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters Monday that Guterres has been in touch with Waltz "for quite some time," and the U.N.'s controller also has been in touch with U.S. officials.

"We're waiting to see exactly when payments will be made and in what amount," Dujarric said.

Guterres said in a letter to all member nations last week that cash for the U.N.'s regular operating budget could run out by July, which could dramatically affect its operations.

President Donald Trump has said the United Nations has not lived up to its potential. His administration did not pay anything to the United Nations in 2025, and it has withdrawn from U.N. organizations, including the World Health Organization and the cultural agency UNESCO, while pulling funding from dozens of others.

U.N. officials have said 95% of the arrears to the U.N.'s regular budget is from the United States.

The country second on the list for not paying its mandatory regular dues is Venezuela, which owes $38 million, the U.N. official said. The South American nation, whose economy was struggling before the U.S. military raid in January that deposed then-President Nicolás Maduro, has lost its right to vote in the General Assembly for being two years in arrears.

Nearly 60 countries paid their annual dues by the Feb. 8 due date.

An Australian man is recovering from serious injuries after being viciously attacked by a kangaroo.

Retired farmer Col was hanging out at his friend's house when the attack took place, he told the Melbourne radio show, 3AW Drive, on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The pair heard Col's friend's dog barking. and, sensing something was wrong, went in search of the animal. They found the dog barking at a kangaroo, but weren't able to get away before the kangaroo approached.

"We drove across the paddock to the dam, and the kangaroo was standing up … leaning back on their tail trying to grab us. So I hit him with a stick, and he jumped into the dam," said Col.

"He just came out of the water like a bl---y rocket and headbutted me in the face and punched the c--- out of me," he recalled. "...I've gone onto my back, and when I stood up to run away, he's given me … a roundhouse to the back and jumped on me and grabbed my head … he wouldn't let go."

Col was seen in photos with large claw marks and bruising on his back, a bloody bandaged head, and scratches on his arms. His blood-covered shirt was also torn in the attack. Col added that the kangaroo clawed him three inches deep on both sides of the stomach.

Col said his friend "got a shovel and hit" the kangaroo, causing it to let go of him as he jumped back in the dam. He was then sent to the hospital, where he remained for six hours as his injuries were treated, per 3AW Drive.

Col likened his injuries to those typically received in a "car crash" and said that he is "very lucky" to be alive.

"It was really quick. A lot of Injuries for probably 25 seconds of work," he said. "I am very lucky. If I hadn't rolled onto my stomach, I would have been in a lot worse way."

According to the University of Melbourne, a kangaroo may sometimes see the upright stance of humans "as a threat" and they "may lash out in self-defence if we approach."

"An adult male kangaroo may view our stance as a serious challenge, and if large and confident, may escalate and attack," the university added.
