All household names that any soccer fan — or casual sports fan, honestly — instantly recognizes.

How about Tim Payne?

A week ago, it might have been the name of the mailman or a local laywer.

But now, it's the soccer player the internet is buzzing about just weeks ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Payne is a defender who is on New Zealand's 26-man roster for the upcoming tournament. The 32-year-old plays for the Wellington Phoenix, a team in the Australian A-League. New Zealand isn't exactly a soccer powerhouse. The All Whites will be playing in their third World Cup this summer and have never made it out of the group stage.

But Payne is a celebrity before he even plays his first World Cup match when New Zealand takes on Iran on June 15 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, in Group G play.

Earlier this week, his Instagram page skyrocketed to 2 million followers in 48 hours. He happened to be chosen by Argentinian soccer influencer and content creator Valen Scarsini to highlight as the "least-known player in the World Cup." Scarsini, who goes by the nickname "El Scarsco," published a video on Tuesday, May 26 to his nearly 2 million followers across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. He broke down how he went through all 48 nations in the field and decided on Payne, encouraging his followers to post about him and, saying in his caption in Spanish, "May he be the main character of the World Cup!"

Well, fans listened and flocked to Payne's Instagram page, which had only 4,715 followers before he went viral. They followed him in droves and created the tagline, "No Payne, No Gain." KitKat, Samsung, Pizza Hut and the NFL Mexico Instagram accounts were commenting on his posts. Fans on X were pulling his Panini World Cup card and asking if they should keep it or "sell for millions?" He received so much attention that the official Instagram account for the World Cup posted a gallery of images of Payne with the caption, "Two words: Tim Payne."

Scarsini published follow-up posts chronicling the journey, including a post celebrating Payne crossing the 2 million follower mark while holding up two celebratory drinks.

On Thursday, May 28, Payne responded with his own thank you video on Instagram. He started by speaking in Spanish, which he said he learned via Duolingo, and then thanked Scarsini in English.

"It's been a pretty crazy 48 hours to say the least," he continued in English with Spanish captions on the video. "I just also wanted to express that I'm very grateful to be representing my country at this World Cup and I appreciate all the love from all around the world."

At the time of publication, Payne's Instagram has 2.4 million followers. That's more than USMNT stars Timothy Weah, Gio Reyna and Matt Turner combined.

Paul McCartney once gifted his late wife Linda McCartney a particularly meaningful piece of jewelry — and he got the idea from none other than Jackie Kennedy.

The legendary musician, 83, joined Amanda Dimoldenberg for an episode of Chicken Shop Date, during which the pair discovered they both have an affinity for lilies. The flowers are nice, McCartney said, but the word "lily" itself holds a special significance to him, as it recalls memories of a heartfelt gift to his first wife, Linda.

McCartney recalled a sweet gift idea he'd seen from another famous couple, Aristotle Onassis and his wife, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and decided to put his own spin on it, he said.

"I'd seen Aristotle Onassis gave his wives a bracelet," Paul detailed. "And so one of them was Jackie Onassis, and so it [spelled out] J-I-L-Y: 'Jackie, I love you.'"

"And so I suddenly thought, 'Perfect!' Get Linda one and it'll be L-I-L-Y, 'Linda, I love you,'" he continued. "Lily. It's the perfect name to do that with."

McCartney and Linda, who he described as his "lovely girl," tied the knot in 1969, not long before McCartney officially left the Beatles the following year. The couple welcomed three children together — Mary, 56; Stella, 54; and James, 48 — and remained together until 1998, upon Linda's death from breast cancer at age 56. McCartney also adopted Heather, Linda's daughter from a previous marriage.

McCartney recently reflected on Linda's impact on him in a new installment of Words + Music with Audible, an expansion of his documentary Man on the Run. When he and Linda first met, she was like a "freeing influence" on him, he said.

“She had grown up in a posh bit of New York. She was on track to become the sort of company wife. But she didn't like that. She liked rock ‘n' roll,” McCartney said. “And she would do things like sneak out of the house late at night and drive into New York with a boyfriend. So there was a lot of freedom in her thinking. So I think that really was good for me.”

She also encouraged McCartney "not to be too uptight," he said, and taught him a phrase that helped him relax.

"You'd be saying, ‘Oh, I'd love to do so and so but I can't.' And she'd say, ‘It's allowed.' It's like all the weight just went off,” McCartney recalled of Linda. “ ‘It's allowed.' Yeah, of course it is!”

McCartney's new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, is now available.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member, 83, opened up about his current and former favorite member of the "Hey Jude" band between himself, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and John Lennon in a new interview with Amelia Dimoldenberg on Chicken Shop Date.

"Favorite Beatle? Well, there’s only one left," began McCartney, 83. "Now, it’s Ringo. During the Beatles, I think we all used to look up to John."

He explained, "He was like the leader even though there wasn’t officially a leader of the group. And he was very witty, and he was great to have in the group. I think all of us might have said John was our favorite."

Elsewhere in the interview, McCartney told a funny story about encountering a woman who performs a certain Beatles song at a retirement home.

"I’ve got a song, ‘When I’m 64,’ an old Beatles song, and I had this old lady come up to me once," he began. "She said, ‘You know, I do one of your songs.’ She said, ‘I work at an old people’s home.’"

McCartney continued, "She said, ‘I do one of your songs.’ I said, ‘Oh, yeah, but which one?’ She said, 'When I’m 64.' She said, ‘But I had to change the words ‘cause that’s too young for my people. So, I had to change it to when I’m 84.’"

When “Days We Left Behind,” the first single from his 20th solo album “The Boys of Dungeon Lane,” dropped in March, reaction was swift. Was this McCartney saying goodbye?

Then came his first-ever post-Beatles duet with Ringo Starr on “Home to Us” and you could practically hear the proverbial orchestra readying the play-off music to one of – if not the – most consequential careers in pop music.

If these two legends, the last men standing of the most influential band in music history, found the time to join talents again, surely the end must be nigh, right?

But reading deeper into the 14 songs on “The Boys of Dungeon Lane,” out now, it becomes clear that McCartney’s reflective state is, yes, rooted in nostalgia, though not necessarily a swan song.

Instead, it’s McCartney at what he does best – maintaining his position as our gentle guide and eternal cheerleader, reassuring over strings and piano on “Life Can Be Hard” and inviting us to keep nodding our heads to deceptively simple melodies that cling to our emotional core inside the chunky groove of “Lost Horizon.”

His once-supple voice altered by age, as well as by a lifetime dedicated to singing and performing, is a stark reminder of the passage of time; he is nothing if not realistic when singing, “Nothing stays the same, no one needs to cry/nothing can reclaim the days we left behind.”

"The Boys of Dungeon Lane" is Paul McCartney's first album of new material in almost five years.Paul McCartney can still rock while being introspective

It’s OK that McCartney, who turns 84 June 18, still has introspection to share. He should.

But he can also glide from quietly plucked guitar strings to a roar of electric guitar in the opening track, “As You Lie There,” cowritten (along with four other songs) by album coproducer Andrew Watt, a legend whisperer a la Brandi Carlile and Elton John.

McCartney’s innate ability to uncork a bop such as “Ripples on a Pond” or the jaunty Starr-sharing “Home to Us” – two mates reminiscing with audible smiles and a background vocal assist from The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde – is undiminished.

But so is his knack for contemplation, as might be expected from the guy who wrote “The Long and Winding Road” and “Eleanor Rigby” as well “Penny Lane” and "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da."

Paul McCartney's genius remains on new album

McCartney reaches that equilibrium on the album’s final track, “Momma Gets By.” It’s a fictional song, not about his beloved mother Mary who died when he was 14, but still one saturated in pensiveness, minor piano chords and quivering strings (arranged by Giles Martin and Ben Foster) as sumptuous as a movie score.

It might seem a downer of a closer, this tale of a beleaguered wife married to a flop of a husband, but in typical McCartney fashion, he parts the clouds to spotlight the rainbow, singing in a voice reaching for closure, “She’s got her own philosophy of life … even though he’s complicated, she takes it in her stride.”

If this is McCartney’s finale, whether prompted by age or circumstance, it’s true that, as Seals and Crofts once sang, “we may never pass this way again.”

But how lucky we have been to live through McCartney’s genius and, for now, still have the spirited guy always ready to strap on his bass with a thumbs up and sideways smile.

Paul McCartney has finally made the admission all Beatles fans have been waiting for – that the quartet are the greatest band across the universe.

The musician, 83, has always modestly claimed that the best singer-songwriters of all time were crooning duo The Everly Brothers, whose songs included “Cathy’s Clown” and “All I Have to Do is Dream”.

However, in a TikTok Q&A interview ahead of his new record, McCartney revealed he feels fine saying The Beatles – made up of McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – probably pip them to the post.

“It is phenomenal, it is really phenomenal,” he said of the band’s stratospheric success.

“When we started out, we were just kids, and rock and roll was just really coming in, and we thought, ‘If we’re lucky, we’ve got a couple of years’ – that’s how long people normally lasted. They couldn’t really sustain much more after that.“

He said he only expected their music would be played for “maybe five years max”, adding: “Then that became 10, and we were kind of still going and the scene’s still there. Then it became 20, then 30, and now it’s right up there. It’s great, it is a lovely feeling.”

McCartney said he enjoys hearing people tell him their kids love The Beatles.

“That’s something, you know, because you can’t indoctrinate [kids], they just either like it or they don’t. I think The Beatles were the greatest band ever. I’m a fan.”

McCartney once named Don and Phil Everly as the musicians who inspired him and Lennon the most, stating: “To this day, I just think they’re the greatest. And they were different.

“You’d heard barbershop quartets, you’d heard the Beverley Sisters – three girls – you’d all heard that. But just two guys, two good-looking guys? So we idolised them. We wanted to be them.”

McCartney has also shared that Peter Jackson’s Get Back documentary, which depicted the band on the cusp of splitting up while recording Let It Be, “took a weight” off his mind.

"I had a strange view of that period," he told the BBC. "It was business hell, and I was blamed for a lot of things.

"The headline on the front of the papers was, 'Paul breaks up the Beatles', and I had to shoulder all of that stuff, even though I knew it wasn't true."

He said that he spent decades thinking he was overbearing, but “when I saw the film, I thought, 'Oh, no, I'm not like that at all. I'm trying to make a record. I'm trying to encourage these guys to be as great as they are’”.

McCartney’s new record, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, is out on Friday (29 May).

Susan Boyle is turning her glamorous new look up a notch.

Boyle, 65, shared a series of Instagram photos on Thursday, May 28, after deleting all previous posts. She marked the new post as an ad, with the caption, "A new era starts tomorrow."

In the photos, Boyle sported a brown velour tracksuit with coordinating sneakers and an eye-catching fur coat. She accessorized with large retro-inspired sunglasses, with her hair blonde and cut into a bob with bangs. The photos showed Boyle crossing a street, sitting in a car and singing into a microphone in what appears to be a recording studio.

The Scottish singer's previous album, TEN, was released in 2019.

Later on Thursday, Boyle shared a photo that featured "Just One" in gold lettering on the back of her tracksuit as she stood in the studio. "I've heard it's Susan Boyling out there… and it's about to get hotter. Just One is out soon xx," she captioned the photo.

The singer initially debuted her new haircut in 2025 at the Pride of Britain Awards in London, years after she won the hearts of viewers from the U.K. and around the world after her April 2009 Britain's Got Talent audition.

Boyle, who was 47 at the time, sang “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Misérables for her season 3 auditionin what has been described by Britain's Got Talentas “one of the most unforgettable auditions” in the show's history. Her life-changing performance stunned the audience and judges Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden, and she was among that season's 40 semifinalists.

Ten years later, Boyle told PEOPLE that she still loves to perform "I Dreamed A Dream."

“It's something I can relate to,” the singer said in 2019.

“It's about a lady who, more or less, was left on her own with nothing," Boyle continued. "Lots was taken away from her and she had to rebuild her life again."
