A legal expert tells PEOPLE that everything said during the meeting is confidential

A trial is currently scheduled for May 18

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, along with their attorneys, are set to meet for a court-ordered settlement conference on Wednesday, Feb. 11, in New York City as part of their ongoing legal dispute connected to It Ends With Us.

The conference will be held at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and overseen by U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave.

Settlement conferences are standard in federal civil litigation and are intended to determine whether a case can be resolved without going to trial. Judge Liman, who is presiding over the case, has not yet ruled on Baldoni's pending summary judgment motion.

The dispute dates back to December 2024, when Lively, 38, filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, 42, who directed and starred in the film, alleging sexual harassment and retaliation. The director has denied the allegations and later filed a $400 million countersuit, which has since been dismissed.

Lively has alleged she lost $161 million as a result of what she describes as a retaliatory smear campaign. A trial is currently scheduled for May 18.

Ahead of the conference, PEOPLE spoke with legal expert Gregory Doll, a partner at Doll Amir & Eley in Los Angeles, to explain what typically happens during a settlement conference and what the possible outcomes could be. Doll is not representing either party.

Who is typically required to attend, and in what capacity?

GREGORY DOLL: The Magistrate stated that the presence of each party — meaning each person or company named in the complaint — is "essential to the settlement process." Insurance companies are not considered parties, and therefore not required to attend, but insurance companies often insist on being involved in settlement conferences because when it is their money at stake.

Is the conference conducted in person or remotely, and how long does it usually last?

DOLL: This settlement conference will be conducted in person. I expect it to last a full day. I have been involved in a settlement conference that lasted three days, so there is no limitation to how long they will last. If the Magistrate believes that settlement is possible, but the parties cannot get there in a single day, she could keep them late into the evening or bring them back for multiple days. Most judges, however, prefer not to keep the parties late into the evening because it requires the presence of additional court personnel to do so. That said, in this case, if the Magistrate thinks the parties are close to a deal, she's not going to send them home until she gets their signatures on a settlement agreement.

Are discussions during the settlement conference confidential or protected from disclosure?

DOLL: All statements are 100% confidential and cannot be used at trial.

What role does the judge or mediator play during the conference?

DOLL: The Magistrate will do her best to convince both parties to settle. The Magistrate will point out the obvious facts to both parties: the trial is going to cost a lot of money; there could be appeals; and neither side is guaranteed a victory. The Magistrate will also do breakout sessions with each of the sides individually, where she will hammer on the weaknesses of their cases. Her goal will be to make both sides recognize that there is a good chance they might lose at trial, so they make a settlement deal. In this case, I'm sure the Magistrate will point out that the public relations aspects of this case will be affecting their careers for years to come. Those issues will be amplified during trial. If they reach a settlement, the public is going to forget about this event a lot sooner.

Does participation signal anything about the strength of either side's case?

DOLL: These types of settlement conferences are court-ordered, so we're not able to infer anything about the strength of either side's case based on their participation.

What are the possible outcomes if no settlement is reached?

DOLL: The next step in the case is that Judge Liman will issue his summary judgment order, which he is no doubt holding in abeyance until after the settlement conference to increase the chance of settlement based on the parties' uncertainty about how he intends to rule. Unless Judge Liman disposes of Lively's case on summary judgment, the next step will be pre-trial motions and trial.

Can the court impose any consequences if the parties fail to negotiate in good faith?

DOLL: In a court-ordered settlement conference like this, the Magistrate could issue a wide range of sanctions if she believes that one of the parties is not participating in good faith. I have seen parties show up at private mediation sessions and not negotiate in good faith, but I have never seen that happen in a federal court settlement conference. It would be a very bad idea to approach this settlement conference in bad faith, particularly knowing that Judge Liman will be paying close attention to the result, and if the Magistrate were to issue a sanctions order saying that one side acted in bad faith, he will be the first to know about it.

How common is it for cases like this to resolve at this stage?

DOLL: It is very common for cases to resolve at this stage. Magistrates pride themselves in settling cases, and by this point in time, the parties are often getting apprehensive about the trial, tired of paying legal bills, and want to make a deal.

Does the scheduling of a settlement conference affect the current litigation timeline or trial date?

DOLL: The conference could affect the trial date only if the parties seem like they want to make a deal but need more time to negotiate. If that's the case, Judge Liman has the option to continue the trial to accommodate further settlement activities.

Do you expect a settlement at this point? More than 90 percent of civil cases settle.

DOLL: I recently read the summary judgment papers in this case. Based on those documents, I'm convinced that Lively's case is seriously flawed — particularly her sexual harassment claims. Do I think the case will settle? Most likely. If it doesn't settle tomorrow, I suspect there will be a summary judgment order that carves up a substantial portion of Lively's case, and the case will settle after that. So we may see a few more twists and turns before the case settles, but I don't think either side wants to do the sequel to Depp v. Heard.

Given how contentious this is, what would it take for the parties to settle?

DOLL: I think it is going to have to involve the payment of some amount of money to Lively, perhaps by Wayfarer's insurance company. I think it is unlikely that the parties are going to do a walk away deal where neither side pays money. I think there will be a cash component coupled with some kind of press release and a limitation on what the parties can say about each other in the future.

Super Bowl isn't just one day — it's a week of star-studded festivities, leading up to the big game. And PEOPLE was there for all of it in San Francisco, Calif., last week.

Some of the biggest names in sports and Hollywood were in the Bay Area for Super Bowl 2026, and stopped by PEOPLE's SiriusXM set at Media Row over multiple days to speak to Editor-at-Large Janine Rubenstein. From Summer House's West Wilson to superstar athletes Jaxson Dart and Fred Warner, no topics were off limits.

Keep reading for all of the 2026 Media Row PEOPLE highlights.

Tyler Shough

Shough, Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year winner, chats with PEOPLE about his first year with the New Orleans Saints. "I'm fired up, it's kind of a full circle moment. What an honor," the 26-year-old says.

The quarterback is also imminently welcoming his first child with wife Jordan in "about a week or so," he says. "I'm gonna be for sure ready to go in baby mode." Though he is a bit "nervous about everything" baby-related. "I'm really excited just to kind of be able to reset and just focus on our kid and on each other."

Midge Purce

"I'm working in L.A. on a football series," he teases. "... It's called The Land, which is what — if you're from Cleveland, that's what you call Cleveland, going back to the 'land'. I'm the owner of the team, which is the Cleveland Browns. It's a parallel universe, all our scripts are original. It's not really about the Browns, but a lot of our plot lines come from stuff that's happened in the NFL."

Nikki and Brie Garcia

Sisters Nikki and Brie, both 42, pop by PEOPLE for Sirius XM to chat about the excitement of Super Bowl week, among other things. "You get all different kinds of guests, reality stars ... it makes it so fun and special, so that's like a highlight for me," Nikki tells PEOPLE of Media Row. Adds Brie, "I love a party."

Nikki, wearing an Eagles jacket, also discusses her relationship with Philadelphia quarterback Cooper DeJean and her viral WWE moment: "It's so funny, because when we're out there live, none of that's scripted. He's one of my favorite players, he's one of the best Eagles. ... can't blame a girl."

Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo

Matching in their Bounty sweaters, Dart, 22, calls his New York Giants teammate Skattebo, 24, "the best wingman in the game" while chatting with PEOPLE. "I think that for us, on the field, we play the old school brand of football," Dart tells PEOPLE of the Giants' strategy. "We're undeniable, we hate losing and we're going to turn that around soon," Skattebo says as the Giants reflect on their 4-13 record from the 2025-2026 season.

Skattebo also assures he's "doing good" after his 2025 ankle injury.

Flavor Flav

Flavor Flav, 66, stops by to sing — literally — with PEOPLE while also chatting about his next travel plans: to Milan, Italy, for the Winter Olympics. Flav is a sponsor of the U.S. bobsled/skeleton team.

The "Fight the Power" rapper says it's important for him to put his support behind women's sports, explaining, "Just trying to bring some awareness to some of these sports."

Flav says he's even tried out the skeleton — and "I tapped out at 66-miles-per-hour."

West Wilson

Summer House star Wilson, 31, tells PEOPLE about the Bravo series' 10th season, though admits he still feels like a "fresh face" after joining in season 8. "I think as long as you are true to who you are — to me, I've been endeared by when poople give you good feedback," he says of being in the public eye and receiving feedback from Summer House viewers. "For me, [it's important] just being yourself, you know?"

West also chats with Rubenstein about keeping things "amicable" after a breakup, and insists, "I don't think people need to hate their exes."

Mel Owens

Former Golden Bachelor star Owens tells PEOPLE his fiancée Peg Munson, who he met on the reality dating series, "is great" and that "love is great" while promoting Veterans United. In fact, Munson joined Owens in San Francisco for big game week.

Owens also recounts playing 11 years in the NFL for the Los Angeles Rams, and jokes of his comfort level around the NFL: "This is my place."

Maxim Naumov felt a calmness that he hadn't felt before when he made his Olympic debut on Tuesday night.

In front of a boisterous crowd, the 24-year-old had one of the best short program performances of his life, thanks to a stillness he felt was his parents, Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, looking over him, a year after they tragically died in the D.C. plane crash.

"Usually I'm a little jittery and kind of — I rush a little bit — and I felt none of that here," Naumov told reporters, including PEOPLE, after his performance on Tuesday, Feb. 10. "The calm, the stillness, the confidence. I tried to lean as much into that as I possibly could."

Naumov, who was given a score of 85.65 and has qualified for the free skate on Friday, attributed the feeling to his parents, who were also his coaches.

"I felt almost like a hand on my back pushing me forward and, just feeling my parents guiding me, from one element to another and just kind of keeping me grounded, almost like a chess piece on a chessboard from one element to another, but it was unlike any other feeling I've ever felt before," he said.

The bronze medalist at the 2026 U.S. Figure Skating Championships also credits the fan support over the last year in helping him succeed.

"The support and the presence from everyone that's been supporting me through the entire season, it all played a factor. All the prayers and the thoughts, I really do feel it, and I felt it throughout the entire thing," Naumov said. "It's almost like I closed my eyes and I opened them again and I was on my knees at the end and just looking up and saying, 'Man, look what we just did.' "

When asked how he thinks his parents would have reacted, Naumov couldn't help but smile.

"I know for a fact that my mom wouldn't have been here watching, that's for sure," he said, grinning. "She never liked to watch me in person. She would always be refreshing the scores thing and making sure that she's on top of it, but nervous out of her mind, but supporting me in her own way always."

His dad, on the other hand, "Would be right next to me and give me the biggest hug and just say I'm proud of you," Naumov said.

Naumov will now wait to see how the rest of the night shakes out for the men's figure skaters, including for his Team USA teammates Andrew Torgashev and Ilia Malinin. He'll spend the next two days preparing for his free skate on Friday night — something he thinks his dad would have reminded him of tonight.

"[He would be] saying the job's not finished and when we have a goal as a family on our minds, there's nothing that's going to stop us from getting there," Naumov said.

Don't blink because the NFL will be back in less than two weeks.

Now that the Seattle Seahawks have been crowned Super Bowl champions, it's on to the 2026 season. That'll kick off with the annual scouting combine in Indianapolis from Feb. 23-March 2.

Free agency follows on March 9 with the two-day negotiating period. The annual league meeting begins on March 29 in Phoenix.

The 10 teams that hired a new head coach may begin offseason workout programs on April 6. Other teams can start on April 20.

The NFL draft is in Pittsburgh from April 23-25.

Here are some of the NFL's top upcoming storylines:

International games

The league will play a record nine international games, including the first-ever regular-season games in Melbourne, Australia, Paris and Rio de Janeiro.

The San Francisco 49ers will face the division-rival Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, a venue that holds about 100,000 spectators.

The Dallas Cowboys will be one of the teams playing in Rio. The league has played two other games in Brazil in São Paulo. The teams facing off in Paris haven't been determined.

The other sites include three games in London, one in Madrid, one in Mexico City, and one in Munich.

The league is aiming to play 16 international games per season but it's going to take negotiating with the NFL Players Association to make that happen.

"I think you have to look at a few things," NFL executive Jeff Miller told the AP last week. "One is obviously our operations team needs to make sure that the markets where we could potentially play are good for us. That's everything from the medical infrastructure to the hotels, to the practice facilities, and of course the surface, which has been a point of conversation. The travel back and forth matters. How are they going to be able to acclimate coming back? ... So we have to figure out from a scheduling perspective, knowing we're only playing a game a week for the clubs, how that works in with the travel that's necessary and the distances they have to go."

David White, the union's interim executive director, said players "appreciate a global stage" but the experience hasn't always been great.

"Here's the issue: They've got a lot of feedback about not having good experiences because it's inconsistent," White said.

Expanding to 18 games

It's likely the league won't get to 16 games internationally until they expand to 18 regular-season games, which is "not a given" according to Commissioner Roger Goodell.

"We're only limited by the supply, not the demand," Miller said about international games. "There's huge demand internationally for NFL football to play games. If you expand to greater inventory, then maybe you're at a place where every team can play a game internationally. That would be terrific for the group."

Goodell pointed out player safety concerns, competitive issues, the potential need to add another bye and roster sizes as areas that have to be addressed through collective bargaining before the league could expand to 18 games. The current CBA between the NFL and its players' union expires in 2030.

White said players have "no appetite" for expanding the schedule so conversations aren't even imminent.

Rule changes

The NFL Competition Committee and teams are expected to propose several rule changes that would require the owners' approval.

Banning the tush push could be among those. Even though the Philadelphia Eagles didn't have quite the same success running the play this season, officials had trouble officiating it. A proposal that bans pushing and pulling ballcarriers might get enough traction.

The league is exploring replay review to potentially include crackback blocks, low blocks/clipping, blindside blocks, intentional grounding (determine a receiver's position on the field) and illegal formation on kickoffs (determine feet on the ground when the ball is touched).

Throwing a flag for penalties after reviewing video would be a significant change if it happens. Replay review currently only allows for picking up a flag that was incorrectly thrown.

Winning an Olympic medal spurred a Norwegian biathlete to shoot his shot … with his ex-girlfriend.

In an emotional interview after he earned the bronze medal in the men's 20km biathlon at the 2026 Milano Cortina games on Tuesday, Sturla Holm Lægreid surprised audiences with an unprompted personal confession.

Three months ago, he cheated on "the love of [his] life, the most beautiful and kindest person."

"I told her a week ago. And it's been the worst week of my life," he told Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). "I had a gold medal in life, and there's probably a lot of people out there who look at me differently now, but I only have eyes for her. Sports has taken a bit of a back seat these past couple of days. Yeah, I wish I could share this with her."

Lægreid brought up the topic by saying that he had wanted to share his win with someone "who might not be watching today."

Without naming his ex-partner, he said that he met her six months ago. She broke up with him once he told her about his betrayal.

"I'm not ready to give up. I hope that committing social suicide [like this] might show her how much I love her," Lægreid said. I accept the consequences of what I've done. I regret it with all my heart. Maybe I'm dumb as a rock. I'm a member of Mensa, but I still do stupid stuff."

He said he's "realized that this is the woman of my life, and I can't live my whole life keeping that from her. My only path to the finish line is to tell her everything and put it all on the table, and hope that she'll still love me. I've done that for her, and now for the entire world. I've nothing to lose."

The attempt to make an appeal to his ex on the global stage quickly made the rounds online, stirring intrigue and confusion online. One Swedish sports journalist called it the "strangest medal interview I've seen."

Lægreid is a six-time Biathlon World Champion and was a relay gold medalist at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. His bronze win Tuesday was his first Olympic medal this year.

When asked how he managed to score the bronze despite his tough week, Lægreid told NRK that his club back home sent him a video that he used for motivation.

"I want to be a good role model, but I have to own up to my mistakes," he said. "You have to recognize when you've done something you can't defend and hurt someone you love so deeply."

When asked about his infidelity, Lægreid's teammate Johannes Dale-Skjevdal said some fellow athletes were aware of the incident.

"Yeah, we knew. I don't have much to say about it," Dale-Skjevdal told NRK. "It's good that he's open about it, and if he wants to talk about things, that's fine, but I think it's difficult for me to comment on now."

Martin Uldal, however, said he was in the dark,

"I've noticed that he's been acting differently, but I didn't really know why," Uldal said. "I thought it was maybe just nerves. I'm very sad to hear it. It's a really tough situation. We will comfort him."

Botn, who earned the gold medal in Lægreid's event, said the whole affair is "none of [his] business," and that his own win was "first and foremost a personal and emotional victory" — before Lægreid cut in to apologize.

"Sorry if I ruined your day," Lægreid said. "But I think he understands. I don't want to steal the limelight today."

New England Patriots left tackle Will Campbell broke his media silence with a significant revelation on Feb. 10.

After leaving the Patriots' locker room after the Super Bowl without talking to members of the media, Campbell spoke to reporters a couple of days later. According to Mark Daniels of MassLive, the first-year offensive lineman said he tore a ligament in his knee during the season.

Campbell said he played at less than 100% during the Patriots' Super Bowl run but also said it was not an excuse for his struggles down the stretch.

Campbell missed all of December after landing on injured reserve with a knee injury he sustained in a Week 12 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Campbell had to be carted to the locker room after the injury, and he landed on injured reserve the following week. After missing the minimum four games on IR, Campbell returned for Week 18 and the playoffs.

The No. 4 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft allowed 14 pressures against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 60, according to Next Gen Stats. That was the most allowed by a single player in any game during the 2025 season, including the playoffs.

Next Gen Stats also attributed 29 total pressures allowed to Campbell over the course of the Patriots' playoff run, which is the most of any player since 2016, the beginning of the Next Gen Stats era.

In the days after the Super Bowl, more than a handful of current and former offensive linemen took to social media to analyze Campbell's struggles. Several pointed to a lack of solid base/foundation in his stance, which could be chalked up to the knee injury he was still recovering from.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said on Feb. 10 that he and the team have no plans to move Campbell to the interior after his rough outing.

"Will's 22 years old. He's our left tackle," Vrabel said. "He'll get better and get stronger. (There were) moments where he played well, moments where he blocked a guy. There's plays he'd like to have back; we're not moving him to guard or center or tight end or anywhere else."

Dean Franklin, a former contestant on The Voice UK, has died just weeks after he was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer. He was 36.

The singer-songwriter, from London, died on Saturday, Feb. 7, his mother Marie confirmed in a Facebook post.

"As a family, we are truly heartbroken to announce that our precious boy, Dean Franklin who fought so courageously over 8 weeks and 3 days passed over at 21.39pm last night," Marie wrote on Feb. 8, alongside a photo of Franklin in a hospital bed. "He was surrounded by love."

She continued, "I have been getting MSG's from people this morning and wanted as his ma to manifest my son's courage to share with you all. As a family, we will post in more length when we are able."

"Until then, please know that the love you gave to our Dean and all of us has meant so very much 🙏🏼❤️," Marie concluded.

Franklin revealed to fans that he had been diagnosed with cancer in an emotional video shared on Instagram in December. The father of one routinely posted health updates in the weeks after, with the last shared on Jan. 30.

"Over the last few weeks, my life has changed very fast," said Franklin on Instagram at the time. "What started as esophageal cancer ended up spreading aggressively to my liver and weirdly, I had almost no symptoms from the oesophagus itself."

Having then candidly described his health challenges, he continued, "Sometimes cancer doesn't shout where it starts. Sometimes it whispers and shows itself somewhere else."

"Right now, I'm in palliative care while still continuing treatment. I've chosen to keep fighting with chemo even though it has been incredibly tough," said Franklin. "Some days have been harder than others, especially the nighttime."

He concluded by expressing gratitude for everyone supporting him, saying, "Every bit of love, I feel every single piece of it.

"If there's one thing that I'd ask is please listen to your body, push for answers, don't ignore changes and early checks really, really do matter," said Franklin.

The street performer impressed the judges during the blind auditions of the 2016 season of The Voice UK, leading Paloma Faith to mentor him.

"You are so brave xxx," Faith, 44, commented on a Jan. 25 health update he shared on Instagram.

A GoFundMe page Franklin set up before his death has almost achieved its $48,000 goal. The singer wrote in the fundraiser's description that he needed financial support while unable to work because of his cancer treatment and to support his daughter.

"This is not about giving up. It is about giving me peace of mind," Franklin wrote. "Knowing that my daughter will be supported, and that practical worries will not take away from the time I have now."
