Speaking to Deadline, Hudson said reuniting was "such a great moment"

Kate Hudson says reuniting with Patrick Fugit at a party recently was "such a great moment," 25 years after the two starred in Almost Famous.

In an interview with Deadline, the 46-year-old actress said of Fugit, 43: "I just saw him the other day at a party."

"He came up, he was like, 'Hey,' I'm like [gasps], and he's such a man now," she recalled. "And I don't see him at all. And I was like, oh my God, we had this g- it was such a great moment. I just was, like, transported to 25 years ago."

Hudson continued: "And I was like, 'Oh my God, I can't believe I'm looking at you right now,' you know? And then back then ... he was young, and I thought I was so old, but we're actually very close in age. But I was, like, 19, 20, and he was 15, so it felt like we were, you know, lifetimes apart, and now I feel like we're the, basically the same age."

Almost Famous follows teenage music journalist William Miller (played by Patrick Fugit), whom Rolling Stone hires to profile a fictional rock band named Stillwater in 1973, without realizing he is only 15. As William ingratiates himself with the band, he develops a kinship with Hudson's Penny Lane, a teenager who travels with rock groups as a self-identified "band-aid."

The role earned Hudson an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.

Hudson celebrated 25 years of her breakout role in the film back in October alongside her family, including mother Goldie Hawn, dad Kurt Russell and brother Oliver Hudson at the 2025 Will Rogers Pioneer of the Year Dinner.

Speaking to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview ahead of the dinner, Hudson nodded to one of the film's most iconic lines, which is uttered by her character, Penny: "It's all happening."

"It's become like, it's like I wear it on my forehead, you know what I mean?" Hudson said of the line "I could be anywhere in the world and someone will just yell it at me. Or they'll say, 'Miss Penny Lane, Miss Penny Lane.' I can't believe how many generations now."

Hudson added: "It's been 25 years ... It's surprising the life that it has, it just keeps renewing itself and kids just love it. It's inspiring to them. So it's all happening. It's a never-ending tag for my life."

Fugit also spoke with PEOPLE about the movie's 25th anniversary, saying he remembered harboring a crush on Hudson during filming.

"I screen tested with Kate Hudson, and she was very magnetic and very captivating," Fugit recalls. "I was 16. I was like, 'Yes, I will be excited to do scenes with her.' "
