The latest episodes of Fallout were focused on New Vegas — but what about a new season?
That's what fans might be wondering after Prime Video's hit adaptation of the popular video game franchise returned for a second season in December 2025.
Season 2 of the post-apocalyptic series premiered on Dec. 16, and it has gone on to become one of the most-viewed shows in Prime Video history.
"We are thrilled with the Fallout S2 reception from audiences and critics globally. After its first four weeks, Fallout S2 already ranks as the sixth most watched season ever on Prime Video and is even higher rated on Rotten Tomatoes than S1," said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global TV at Amazon MGM Studios, in a statement to Deadline in January 2026.
Season 2 of Fallout concluded on Feb. 4 with a twisty finale, but an announcement about season 3 was already made back in May 2025.

Will there be a season 3 of Fallout?

Yes, Fallout has been renewed for a season 3.
The announcement was made in May 2025, months ahead of the season 2 premiere in December 2025.
"Together with our amazing partners at Bethesda Games and Bethesda Softworks, we are delighted to announce a third season of Fallout, well ahead of the much-anticipated debut of Season Two," Vernon Sanders, Amazon MGM Studios Global Head of Television, said in a statement.
Executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy added, "The holidays came a little early this year - we are thrilled to be ending the world all over again for a third season of Fallout."
In addition, series showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner commented, "We're so grateful to have survived the apocalypse for another season! Thanks to the incredible team — our whole cast and crew, Kilter and Amazon."
What will Fallout season 3 be about?

While official details about Fallout season 3 have yet to be revealed, the season 2 finale featured character dynamics shifting, including Lucy's (Ella Purnell) confrontation with her dad, Hank (Jyle MacLachlan), going sideways, and Norm (Moises Arias) forming a closer bond with Claudia (Rachel Marsh).
In December 2025, Todd Howard, director at Bethesda Game Studios, the developer behind the Fallout video game series, told Variety that writing on season 3 was currently underway.
As for merging storylines from the show into the video game, Howard said, "We're having those conversations now of, what are we doing in Season 3 for the TV show and what elements can we bring into our games at that time when it comes out that don't feel forced or fake."
Who will be in the Fallout season 3 cast?

It hasn't been confirmed which cast members will return for season 3 of Fallout, but it will most likely feature series stars Purnell, Aaron Moten as Maximus and Walton Goggins as The Ghoul.
The Fallout ensemble also includes MacLachlan, Arias and Frances Turner as Barb. The latest installment introduced several new characters, like Justin Theroux's Robert House, as well.
In a December 2025 interview with PC Gamer, Purnell hinted at how she will prepare for season 3. The actress revealed she played Fallout 4 while preparing for season 1, but didn't play New Vegas before season 2.
"This time around, I did not play the game, and I kind of did it in reverse, where I want to wait for the show to come out, watch all the episodes, and then play New Vegas," she told the outlet. "And then do it in reverse and see how that changes the experience of playing the game."
"And then I don't know what I'll do for season 3," Purnell continued. "Maybe I'll play them all and become like a really addicted gamer. Who knows?"
Does Fallout season 3 have a release date?

Fallout season 3 does not have a release date yet, but details have been shared about when filming could potentially start.
"With regards to production, we're hoping to be shooting again next summer," Nolan told IGN in December 2025. "We'll see if that all comes together — best laid plans and all."
He continued, "But I'm excited that though the scope of the show feels undiminished season on season, you know, Geneva [Robertson-Dworet] and Graham [Wagner] and our incredibly talented cast and crew were able to work quickly enough to get back on the air in a reasonable amount of time."
For reference, the first season of Fallout debuted in April 2024, while season 2 was released in December 2025.
