DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Kuwait said it was targeted with a missile and drone attack Thursday, another challenge to the shaky ceasefire in the Iran war following strikes by both Washington and Tehran.

Kuwait’s military made the announcement, without providing further details on what had been targeted. Iran said hours later that it launched an attack in the region, but it did not say exactly what was targeted.

Kuwait, a close ally of the U.S., repeatedly came under fire from Iran and Iranian-backed Shiite militias in Iraq during the war.

The announcement comes as the Middle East is on the edge. U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that his administration is making headway in negotiations with Iran to end the war, but the talks remain in flux.

Trump is looking for an agreement that will reopen the Strait of Hormuz — through which about a fifth of all traded oil and natural gas once passed. He is also seeking to get Iran to give up its stockpile of highly enriched uranium while the Islamic Republic wants economic sanctions to be lifted and frozen assets to be released to aid its shattered economy. The war has been unpopular in the U.S., and Iran's closure of the strait has sent oil prices skyrocketing, driving up fuel prices around the world.

As the negotiations continue, there have been several challenges to the ceasefire in recent days.

On Monday, the U.S. said it conducted what the Pentagon called “defensive” strikes on missile launch sites and minelaying boats in southern Iran. U.S. officials said late Wednesday in Washington that forces launched more strikes on Iran, shooting down four one-way attack drones that posed a threat around the strait and hitting an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was about to launch a fifth drone.

The officials were not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard via the state-run IRNA news agency acknowledged the attack around Bandar Abbas International Airport and said it launched its own retaliatory attack on the air base that launched the assault.

It did not elaborate on the target and it wasn’t clear whether that was the attack that Kuwait announced.

KEELUNG, Taiwan, May 28 (Reuters) - A new ferry service to serve booming tourism between Taiwan and Japan began on Thursday on ‌a ship that could be pressed into service to evacuate people on southern ‌Japanese islands in the event of a war in the region.

The Yaima Maru is one of the ships that Japan's government this year put on a list of vessels to be used to evacuate island residents to mainland Japan in case of a crisis.

China, which views democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory, has ramped up its military pressure against Taipei over the past five years, ‌including holding war games covering areas that have been close to Japanese waters.

For now, the ship will be linking Taiwan's northern port city of Keelung with Japan's Ishigaki, which lies to the east of Taiwan at the bottom end of the Ryukyu islands, shuttling tourists back and forth once a week on an overnight journey.

"This regular route is not merely transportation infrastructure," Ishigaki Mayor Yoshitaka Nakayama said at Keelung port. "It serves as a new bridge that supports tourism, ‌logistics, economic activity, cultural exchange, and education."

The U.S. has a major military base in Okinawa in the Ryukyu islands and Japan has been strengthening its defences in the area, including on Yonaguni, the Japanese island which sits closest to Taiwan.

Tatsuya Ohama, president of Shosen Yaima which runs the ferry service, declined to directly answer questions about regional tensions.

"This is fundamentally a ‌matter between countries. As a private ferry operator, our first step is to get the service up and running," he told reporters.

Japan ruled Taiwan as a colony from 1895 to 1945 and the two have very ‌close economic and trade relations despite a lack of formal diplomatic ties.

China has been angered by stepped-up support from Tokyo for Taipei.

In November, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said a hypothetical Chinese attack on Taiwan could trigger a military response from Tokyo. That ‌infuriated Beijing and triggered a deterioration in ties.

Taiwan's government rejects Beijing's sovereignty claims.

UPPSALA, Sweden, May 28 (Reuters) - Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf ‌Kristersson will host Ukrainian President ‌Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Sweden in Thursday, where the they will present news related to aviation, the government said.

Kristersson and Zelenskiy signed a letter of intent last ‌year that could see Sweden sell up to 150 of its newer Gripen E fighter jets to Ukraine. But with deliveries several years away, there have been discussions about transfer of ‌existing, C/D model Swedish Gripens.

The NFL offseason is in full swing. Every team can dream of having a big campaign and going on the postseason and winning the Super Bowl ... for now.

Reality will set in when training camp starts and certain franchises will see that they face a monumental task to play .500 football, let alone keep playing after the 17-game regular season ends.

There are some teams that feel like locks to gain the playoffs and try to win the Super Bowl. Then, there are others where it isn't exactly a stretch to say they will be going home after the 18th week of the regular season.

What teams won't be making the playoffs?

New York Jets

Geno Smith.

This should come as no surprise, especially with the Jets banking on Geno Smith at quarterback. Could he be the first starter to be in charge of an offense for different teams that wind up with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft in back-to-back seasons?

Miami Dolphins

Valtteri Bottas of Finland and Cadillac F1 Team poses for a photo with Miami Dolphins players during previews ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Miami.

It would take much more than a Miami Miracle for the Dolphins to compete with the Patriots and Bills. And there will not be three playoff teams coming out of the AFC East.

Cleveland Browns

Next.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Aaron Rodgers retirement tour will last 17 games, 18 weeks and not more than that.

Tennessee Titans

All Titans fans can hope for is that Cam Ward improves off his rookie season. However, expecting a massive jump is unrealistic. Winning six games or so would be an accomplishment. Robert Saleh-Brian Daboll exacta is worrisome.

Indianapolis Colts

Were the Colts under Daniel Jones the real Indy team or the one that fell apart when their quarterback was injured. Will go along with somewhere in the middle but they aren't going to top the Jaguars and Texans.

Las Vegas Raiders

Fernando Mendoza needs to survive his rookie season. The Raiders need to protect the No. 1 overall pick and hope to somewhat improve. They aren't about to gain the playoffs after last season's debacle.

New York Giants

Jaxson Dart is the media darling and finds his way into headlines everywhere. He's not going to take this team to the playoffs the way it is structured. John Harbaugh has a big task remodeling a crumbled Big Blue franchise.

Dallas Cowboys

Time for everyone in Cowboys Nation to start yelping. Sorry, this is the same team, next year and it isn't going to improve enough to threaten for a playoff spot.

Minnesota Vikings

Kyler Murray of the Minnesota Vikings participates in a drill during an OTA workout at Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center on May 27, 2026 in Eagan, Minnesota.

The Vikings will continue to pay the price for letting Sam Darnold go after drafting JJ McCarthy. Kyler Murray doesn't exactly bring a playoff resume with him.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints should get better but being better than average is not good enough to play in the postseason.

Atlanta Falcons

Tua Tagovailoa #1 of the Atlanta Falcons runs through drills during OTA's at IBM Performance Field on May 27, 2026 in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

The Falcons have gone from Kirk Cousins to Tua Tagovailoa in the QB room with Michael Penix Jr. Will they learn?

Arizona Cardinals

Get serious.

- Emily Blunt recalled Tuesday on* Jimmy Kimmel Live* that Meryl Streep danced to "Mamma Mia" at her 2010 wedding to John Krasinski.

- Streep, Blunt's costar in *The Devil Wears Prada* and its sequel, starred in *Mamma Mia* and *Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again*.

- Blunt said Streep hadn't wanted to dance but she did for the sake of the couple's mothers.

Consider it a perk of being a movie star: actress Emily Blunt recalls seeing Meryl Streep, her costar in *The Devil Wears Prada*, dance the night away to a song that she's very much associated with.

It happened when a group of about 60 people at Blunt's 2010 wedding to actor John Krasinski took a boat out on Italy's Lake Como. Streep was there because not only had she worked with Blunt in their fashionable 2006 film, but Krasinski had played her beloved future son-in-law in the 2009 movie *It's Complicated*.

"[The DJ on the boat] would sing the songs in half-Italian, half-English," Blunt told the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live when she visited Tuesday to promote her new movie *Disclosure Day*. "And he started playing 'Mamma Mia,' and my mom and John's mom started ominously dancing towards Meryl."

Streep starred in the 2008 big-screen version of *Mamma Mia!*, and, like *The Devil Wears Prada*, the title proved to be the first of two installments. In 2010, she wouldn't have yet appeared in *Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again*, which came in 2018. But she was already known for the film.

The *Only Murders in the Building *star politely moved with the moms.

"She indulged them," Blunt told Kimmel, who'd also attended the nuptials. "But I said to her afterwards, I was like, 'What did you feel when they came for you?' and she went, 'I wanted to hurl myself into the lake.'"

Still, Blunt added, "She did it! We have pictures of them all dancing together. It was amazing."

Kimmel recalled that many of the people there hadn't met Streep before, so this was their introduction to the three-time Oscar winner. (Two at the time.)

Oddly enough, the wedding location where Streep's now famous dancing took place, was actually George Clooney's estate, and it was also a setting in *The Devil Wears Prada 2*.

When Clooney was asked about the property appearing in the trailer for the blockbuster, he seemed unaware.

"Is it really? Oh man, I've made it," he joked to *Access Hollywood* before the movie hit theaters.

More seriously, he added, "The house holds a special place in my heart, because I love going there" and called Blunt a "dear, dear, dear, dear friend."

- Taylor Swift sent an 8-year-old fan and her next-door neighbor signed guitars and handwritten letters.

- The pair went viral last month after Madeline asked her musician neighbor Ethan to play a Taylor Swift song via paper airplane.

- "I’m sending you your own guitar in case you ever want to learn too!” Swift wrote in her note to Madeline.

Taylor Swift knows kindness never goes out of style.

The “Wildest Dreams” singer mailed handwritten letters and signed guitars to an 8-year-old fan and her next-door neighbor after a wholesome interaction between them involving her music went viral on social media last month.

In the TikTok, 8-year-old Madeline can be seen asking her musician neighbor Ethan Hayes, 26, to please play a Taylor Swift song by throwing a paper airplane over their shared fence. After he reads the note, Ethan proceeds to perform Swift’s 2008 hit “Love Story” as Madeline sings along.

The post immediately took off online, amassing almost half a million likes since it was first posted on April 23 and even ending up on Swift’s radar. Ethan confirmed to PEOPLE that the 14-time Grammy winner’s team personally reached out to him on social media after it was published.

“They're like, ‘Hey, Taylor saw your video. We want to send you something. Don't tell anyone until it gets there,’” he recalled. “I was expecting maybe a signed poster or something. And then she sent us guitars, which is insane.”

Madeline also received a signed acoustic guitar as well as a handwritten note from Swift, which was published by the outlet.

“Dearest Madeline, I just wanted to let you know that it made me SO happy that you asked your neighbor to play my song for you,” Swift wrote. “You brought the biggest smile to my face. I’m sending you your own guitar in case you ever want to learn too!”

Speaking with PEOPLE, Madeline’s stepfather Russell explained that the family never expected the adorable moment to go viral.

“There was really no expectation at all going into it,” he said. “It was just a cute moment she just wanted to share with her friends. Next thing you know, we wake up in the morning and there's like 10,000, 15,000, 20,000 [views]. And we're like, ‘Oh wow.’”

Ethan, a full-time musician, added that the clip has also helped promote him as an artist, too. “I've gained thousands of followers, which is always really great," he said. "We haven't seen one single negative comment, which I think is really, really rare, just a really wholesome situation that I'm really grateful to be a part of.”

When asked by the outlet if she’d like to say anything to Swift, Madeline replied, “Thank you.”

Swift has a history of sending heartwarming notes and gifts to her biggest fans, previously penning a letter to a fan upon completing his PhD and mailing a surprise package full of goodies to a young fan.

Last year, the* Life of a Showgirl *star made headlines after her *The End of an Era *docuseries showcased her distributing bonus checks to her entire team while on her record-breaking Eras Tour. The “Opalite” singer handed out over $159 million in bonuses during the tour, which ran from March 2023 until December 2024.
