"Grey's Anatomy" star Eric Dane's cause of death has been released.

The actor, who revealed his battle with ALS in April 2025, died from respiratory failure, with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease listed as the underlying cause, according to a Los Angeles County Medical Examiner report obtained by People.

Dane died Feb. 19 – on the 20th anniversary of his first appearance on "Grey's" – in Los Angeles at 53. His representative, Melissa Bank, confirmed the news in a statement to USA TODAY.

"With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS," Bank said at the time. "He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world."

Eric Dane played Dr. Mark Sloan, aka "McSteamy," on "Grey's Anatomy" for six seasons, but he's not done wooing his audiences yet. In 2025, Dane returned to TV on another medical drama, making his "Brilliant Minds" debut as "Bronx-Gen's favorite silver fox." Dane revealed in April that he'd been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, known as ALS. See the actor's career in the spotlight from the early 2000's to now, including here as he attends the "Countdown" premiere and afterparty on June 18, 2025, in Los Angeles.

Three weeks before his death, Dane dropped out of an ALS Network gala "due to the physical realities of living with ALS," the organization said in a Jan. 25 statement to USA TODAY. The actor was to be honored with the Dean and Kathleen Rasmussen Advocate of the Year Award.

"Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research," Bank's statement continued. He was "determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight."

The award-winning actor was candid about his life with the neurodegenerative condition, revealing in an October Washington Post interview that he missed a 20th anniversary celebration of "Grey's Anatomy" at the 2025 Emmy Awards after a fall in his kitchen landed him in the hospital.

"ALS is a nasty disease," Dane told the outlet, adding that during the awards ceremony, he was "getting stitches put in my head."

Dane played the cheeky Dr. Mark Sloan, aka "McSteamy," in the ABC medical drama, and Cal Jacobs, the toxic father to Jacob Elordi's Nate Jacobs on HBO's "Euphoria" since the show's 2019 debut. He reprises the latter role in the show's upcoming third season, due April 12.

- Will Forte tells EW he felt "white hot anger" when he learned Warner Bros. had shelved *Coyote vs. Acme* after its completion.

*Coyote vs. Acme* has endured a harrowing journey in the lead-up to its long-delayed theatrical release — and star Will Forte isn't happy about it.

The *Saturday Night Live* alum, who portrays Wile E. Coyote's defense attorney in the live-action/animated hybrid *Looney Tunes* film, candidly reflects on his reaction to the movie initially being scrapped by Warner Bros. during a conversation with **.

"Extreme frustration, fiery frustration, a lot of anger, white hot anger," he says of his immediate response to the movie being shelved. "But then ultimately, that's mixed with pride in this movie we've done. And also, who knows? Everything happens for a reason, and it is certainly possible that the crazy journey that this movie is taking will help get more eyes on it, because it's a story people know about a little bit. But I don't think we needed this crazy journey."

First announced in 2018, *Coyote vs. Acme* filmed in the spring of 2022, and was originally scheduled to hit theaters on July 21, 2023. Warner Bros. moved it from that date to make way for *Barbie*, and in November 2023, the studio shelved *Coyote vs. Acme* — despite it being finished — to claim a $30 million tax write-off, as it had previously done with completed projects like *Batgirl* and *Scoob Holiday Haunt*.

Later that month, EW confirmed that WB reversed course and allowed director Dave Green to shop the film to other studios who were considering buying the project. In February 2024, *TheWrap* reported that WB had rejected offers to buy the film, and *Coyote vs. Acme *seemed doomed once again — until February 2025, when Ketchup Entertainment announced that it had acquired the movie from WB.

Though Forte felt good about the work he'd done on the film, the *MacGruber* star says he initially wondered if *Coyote vs. Acme* was a disaster.

"I remember when I first heard that Warner Bros. was shelving it, I had not yet seen the movie," he says. "I had been talking to people before and hearing about the test scores being really good, and then I was like, 'Oh, maybe it's not as good as they were telling me' when it got shelved."

But the actor knew WB had made a mistake once he viewed the final product. "I got to see it. I love it. I was *so* proud of it," he says. "It was so maddening because it was this beautiful, special little movie that was something I would've been able to share with my kids."

Forte laughs considering what other projects he might be able to show his children. "What have I done that I could share with my kids?" he says. "*MacGruber* and all these dirty little movies. So this was finally something I could share with my kids."

The *Four Seasons* star felt a sense of doom after WB rejected the initial offers from other studios. "For a long time, it looked like it was not gonna come to be," he said. "And then when Ketchup Entertainment came in and saved us, it was so exciting to hear that news. I'm so excited for people to get to see it."

The film will finally hit theaters on Aug. 28, 2026, and Forte is counting down the days. "I can't believe we still have to wait till August," he says. "What's it been, four years? But you know, better late than never. And I thought it was never gonna happen, so I'm so excited for people to see it."

Forte recently teamed up with Teva to headline a campaign raising awareness for Huntington's disease, which his father-in-law passed away from and his brother-in-law, Douglas, was recently diagnosed with. Huntington's is an inherited condition wherein the brain's nerve cells decay over time, which often affects movement, mental health, and cognitive ability.

"It's this brutal disease that a lot of people don't even know about, but a lot of people have it," Forte says. "More people have Huntington's than have ALS, but everybody knows ALS, so that's why we're trying to get the word out about it, to get some support and a bigger community going to support the people who have Huntington's, and to teach the people who don't have it about it."

Shia LaBeouf says he's 'scared' of gay people in post-arrest comments

Shia LaBeouf is offering a controversial explanation for his recent arrest in New Orleans.

The "Transformers" actor, 39, said during a recent interview with YouTuber Andrew Callaghan that the pair of assaults he was criminally charged with amid Mardi Gras celebrations came after he felt "scared" near members of the gay community.

"When I'm standing by myself and three gays are next to me touching my leg, I get scared … I'm sorry. If that's homophobic, then I'm that," he said. "I'll be honest with you, big gay people are scary to me."

USA TODAY has reached out to LaBeouf's representative for comment.

Shia LaBeouf ordered to rehab: Judge slams behavior after Mardi Gras arrest

The controversial actor and former child star was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 17, for multiple alleged assaults, the New Orleans Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY. According to police, officers were called at approximately 12:45 a.m. after two men reported being assaulted. Investigators said LaBeouf was "causing a disturbance and becoming increasing[ly] aggressive" at a nearby business.

The "Megalopolis" star was later taken to a hospital for "treatment of unknown injuries," police added. LaBeouf's arrest followed his alleged disorderly conduct at the business, which prompted a staff member to oust the actor from the establishment, authorities say. After he was removed, LaBeouf reportedly struck a man in the vicinity, using his closed fists several times.

He briefly left the area, per police, but returned later and began acting "even more aggressive." While several bystanders attempted to hold him down, he allegedly struck the same man a second time, also with closed fists.

While LaBeouf started the podcast by saying he took full responsibility and would face the consequences of his violence, he later seemed to imply that the assault came after he was made to feel uncomfortable near gay people.

"I'm good with gay − be gay over there, though," he said. "Don't be gay in my lap."

His comments came during a lengthy conversation in which the actor rose from his seat several times and denied having an alcohol problem, citing a Napoleon complex as the source of his troubles. The interview came after a judge ordered LaBeouf to enter treatment as well as complete weekly drug tests.

During a Feb. 27 court appearance, Orleans Parish Criminal Court Judge Simone Levine scolded the actor for apparently yelling homophobic slurs during the brawl, per the .

Levine expressed concern for the LGBTQ+ community and "the safety of this larger community, especially relative to a marginalized community that has gone through so much terror," according to AP.

This is not the star's first run-in with the law: LaBeouf has been charged with multiple instances of disorderly conduct and physical assault over the years.
