The dress code for the 2026 Met Gala, set to take place on May 4, following the longstanding tradition of being held on the first Monday of May, has been announced as "Fashion Is Art."

The theme will celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art's spring 2026 exhibit, which embraces a "Costume Art" concept.

"Prepare to see some outfits that shouldn't see the light of day," one user commented, while another added, "'Fashion Is Art' will mean wearing the weirdest thing and calling it genius."

Vogue made the announcement via its social media channels on Monday, February 23, sharing that the gala's co-chairs will include Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour, the global chief content officer of all Condé Nast brands, including Vogue, Vanity Fair, GQ, The New Yorker, and Glamour.

The Met Gala is held every year to fund the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, the curatorial department dedicated to the study, preservation, and exhibition of fashion as an art form.

According to the latest announcement, this year's dress code invites guests to "consider the many ways designers use the body as their canvas." Despite the creative freedom it offers, social media reactions to the directive have been largely pessimistic.

The showcase planned for this year will feature nearly 400 objects, pairing garments with paintings, sculptures, and other works spanning some 5,000 years of art history.

Andrew Bolton, curator of the institute, quipped on Monday that the dress code for this year "will put an end to the rather obsolete 'Is Fashion Art?' debate once and for all."

Netizens do not have as high hopes as he does for the guests, whose names will remain under wraps until the night of the soirée

"It will still be underwhelming," an X user said, while another added, "People will show up in a paint-splattered blazer calling it conceptual."

"Time to see more ridiculous costumes this year," a third added.

"Isn't this the general theme every year?" criticized a fourth.

Social media appeared to have expectations from some women in showbiz to make good use of the dress code, though.

"Lady Gaga better attend. This theme is so her," one said.

"Cardi B will eat this theme," a second added.

"Zendaya and Rihanna are about to take it personally," the next noted.

For male celebrities, one said they "will arrive in the same black tux they've had since Barack Obama was president."

Last year's Met Gala dress code was "Tailored for You," which supported the Costume Institute's exhibition "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style."

The dress code encouraged structured silhouettes to pay homage to Black fashion icons.

Co-hosts for the last edition of fashion's biggest night were also celebrities of color, including Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Zendaya, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and more.

Those who did not do justice to last year's dress code, according to Vogue itself, included names like Gigi Hadid, FKA Twigs, Serena Williams, Anne Hathaway, and Diana Ross, among others.

Gigi Hadid's golden Miu Miu moment had no visible nod to Black fashion or structured tailoring.

FKA Twigs arrived at the event in a Wales Bonner dress that again lacked structure.

Serena Williams' silver Moncler x EE72 dress, cut from satin fabric, failed to align with the tailored directive of the event, while Anne Hathaway, who is known to rock almost any design, disappointed in a mediocre white T-shirt paired with an embellished silver-and-black skirt.

Diana Ross also opted for a gown with a plunging neckline that lacked tailored elements, and her long, feathered train did not add the required charm to her attire either.

The 2025 edition marked the first menswear-focused Met Gala theme in over two decades, since "Men in Skirts" in 2003.

The dress code and co-chair announcement on Monday followed the announcement of the Met Gala Host Committee last year

Designer Anthony Vaccarello, Gwendoline Christie, Paloma Elsesser, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A'ja Wilson, Yseult, and Vogue's new editor-in-chief, Chloe Malle, are also on the committee.

On Monday, Vogue dropped more names from the host committee: Adut Akech, Angela Bassett, Sinéad Burke, Rebecca Hall, Aimee Mullins, Tschabalala Self, Amy Sherald, and Chase Sui Wonders.

The gala's lead sponsors and honorary chairs will be Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez

"Is it just me, or are these themes getting more and more generalized every year?" a netizen probed

Tom Hanks will play a former U.S. president — and distant relation — in an upcoming biopic.

Lincoln in the Bardo, based on George Saunders' bestselling 2017 novel of the same name, will star Hanks, 69, as Abraham Lincoln. Per Deadline, it will be a hybrid movie combining live-action filmmaking and stop-motion animation.

The Forrest Gump Oscar winner is a distant cousin of the 16th president's mother, whose name was Nancy Hanks, according to Ancestry.com.

In addition to starring, Hanks will produce Lincoln in the Bardo through his Playtone label with partner Gary Goetzman. The film will be directed and produced by Oscar-nominated Anomalisa filmmaker Duke Johnson.

Deadline reports that the film will "explore one of the most intimate moments of Lincoln's life, centering on his relationship with his recently deceased 11-year-old son. The movie will explore themes of love, empathy and human capacity in the face of grief as the story unfolds through an ensemble of characters, both living and dead, historical and invented."

Hanks is no stranger to playing real people on the big screen. Among his dozens of credits are Walt Disney in 2013's Saving Mr. Banks, Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger in 2016's Sully and Fred Rodgers in 2019's A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. He served as narrator on the 2011 television program Killing Lincoln, a docudrama about John Wilkes Booth's assassination of Lincoln.

In a 2021 op-ed for The New York Times, Hanks wrote that he considers himself "a lay historian who talks way too much at dinner parties, leading with questions like, 'Do you know that the Erie Canal is the reason Manhattan became the economic center of America?' Some of the work I do is making historically based entertainment."

Among Hanks' other upcoming screen projects are reprising his voice role as Woody in Toy Story 5 (in theaters June 19) and a sequel to his 2020 WWII naval drama Greyhound.

The Fanning sisters are currently preparing to film their first-ever movie in which they act opposite each other, titled The Nightingale

Elle Fanning is celebrating her older sister Dakota Fanning's birthday.

Dakota turned 32 on Monday, Feb. 23. Elle, 27, marked the occasion by sharing a short video of her and her sister dancing together and embracing one another to Instagram. "Our song. Your birthday. My sister. 🥳🥳," Elle wrote in a caption to her post. "She is the coolest person anyone will ever meet and I'm the lucky one who gets to call her mine! 💗 I love you @dakotafanning."

"Love you the most!!!!!" Dakota wrote in a comment to Elle's post, in response. The All Her Fault actress also shared a baby photo of herself sitting in front of a birthday cake to her own Instagram page in celebration of her birthday, where she wrote, "making a really good wish this year 🎂" in her own caption.

"Love you more than anything 💗," Elle wrote in a comment to Dakota's own post. Dakota also received birthday well-wishes from famous friends like Reese Witherspoon, Andy Garcia, Christina Hendrix and Abigail Breslin, among others, in the comments of Elle's Instagram post. "Awww! Love this💕Happy Birthday Dakota !!" Witherspoon, 49, wrote in a comment.

Elle and Dakota, who have each been acting since they were small children, frequently post about each other and hype each other up, particularly on each sister's birthday. When Elle turned 27 in April 2025, Dakota shared the pair's "first photo together," snapped with their mother Hannah in the hospital shortly after Elle's birth.

"I was asleep in the delivery room during Elle's birth, so I can really say we have been together from the start," Dakota wrote in the caption to that Instagram post. "What an honor that has been, and I can't wait for the rest."

Dakota's birthday comes as she and Elle prepare to film an upcoming movie together titled The Nightingale, which will mark the first time the sisters have worked together on the big screen.

"She's promised me that she's not gonna boss me around," Elle said on the red carpet at the Golden Globes in January, when asked by E! about how she expects she and Dakota will behave on set together. "That's what she's promised . . . the older sister. You can't! You have to treat me like a fellow actor." The Nightingale, which is expected to release in theaters in February 2027, is based on Kristin Hannah's historical fiction novel of the same name, which follows two sisters in France during World War II.

"In a couple months we are about to go film," she added at the time. "It's taken a couple years in the making, but . . . we are finally, really doing it this time."

Overall, the hosts of The View were unimpressed by Kash Patel partying with the U.S. men's Olympic hockey team. When a video showing the FBI Director celebrating surfaced over the weekend, some suggested it was in poor taste. After all, the FBI investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie is still ongoing.

But host Whoopi Goldberg offered a different perspective, as she often does. She suggested that the FBI sent Patel off to the Winter Olympics simply to get him out of the way.

A viral video of Kash Patel celebrating with the Team USA men's hockey team caused debate

In the video, the Director is seen celebrating with the team in their locker room following their Gold Medal win. As the party goes on, Patel is shown yelling, waving his arms and guzzling a beer.

"A lot of people are upset and accused him of partying on the taxpayers' dime," Whoopi commented. "His spokesperson says he was in Milan on official business … [But aren't] there more officially pressing business matters to be dealt with here in the states?"

And you can't expect the Director of the FBI to fly commercial. According to Whoopi, It [costs] about $5,000 per flight hour for the FBI gulfstream to fly … [That means] his trip to Milan is likely costing American taxpayers $75,000."

Ultimately, Whoopi thought the FBI sent Patel off to Milan "so they don't have to deal with him," she said today. "Because they know he doesn't know what he's doing. They know that he is incompetent [and he's] just a joke."

"He's a joke to the rest of the world," she concluded. "For most of the people working in the FBI, it is not a joke. They're the ones whose eyes are on the ball."

TELL US – DID YOU FIND PATEL'S PARTYING IN POOR TASTE? DO YOU BELIEVE HE WAS REALLY THERE ON "OFFICIAL BUSINESS?"

Tourette syndrome activist John Davidson is breaking his silence after making headlines for shouting a racial slur at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards,

Davidson, whose life inspired the BAFTA-winning film *I Swear*, is in the news after inadvertently yelling the N-word while *Sinners* stars Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting an award during the first half of Sunday's ceremony. In a statement addressing the incident on Monday, Davidson reiterated that his verbal tics and uncontrollable swearing, which are symptoms of Tourette's, are involuntary.

"I wanted to thank BAFTA and everyone involved in the awards last night for their support and understanding and inviting me to attend the broadcast," Davidson began in a statement to Deadline. "I appreciated the announcement to the auditorium in advance of the recording, warning everyone that my tics are involuntary and are not a reflection of my personal beliefs. I was heartened by the round of applause that followed this announcement and felt welcomed and understood in an environment that would normally be impossible for me."

Davidson went on to state that he is and always has been "deeply mortified if anyone considers my involuntary tics to be intentional or to carry any meaning."

He continued, "I have spent my life trying to support and empower the Tourette's community and to teach empathy, kindness and understanding from others and I will continue to do so."

Davidson additionally noted that he "chose to leave the auditorium early" of his own volition in acknowledgement of "the distress my tics were causing."

** has reached out to representatives for Davidson for comment.

Prior to the start of the ceremony, the event's stage manager introduced Davidson to the audience and alerted attendees that they might hear some "involuntary noises or movements" during the ceremony. Later, after audience members and those on stage reacted to the racial slur with shock, host Alan Cumming addressed Davidson's outbursts and apologized "if you are offended tonight."

Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo present the Special Visual Effects Award on stage during the EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026 at The Royal Festival Hall on February 22, 2026 in London, England.

Davidson's Monday statement was accompanied by a statement from CEO of Tourettes Action Emma McNally, who wrote, "We deeply understand that these words can cause hurt but at the same time, it is vital that the public understands a fundamental truth about Tourette syndrome: tics are involuntary. They are not a reflection of a person's beliefs, intentions, or character."

McNally continued, "People with Tourette's can say words or phrases they do not mean, do not endorse, and feel great distress about afterwards. These symptoms are neurological, not intentional, and they are something John – like many others with Tourette's – lives with every single day… We hope that those commenting will take the time to watch the film, learn about Tourette's, and understand the experiences behind moments like these. Education is key, and compassion makes a world of difference."

Fans and stars alike spoke out following the Sunday incident, in addition to criticizing BBC for including the slur in the tape-delayed broadcast of the ceremony, which was aired two hours later.

The British Academy of Film and Television took "full responsibility" for the incident in a Monday statement shared with EW, which read, "We take the duty of care to all our guests very seriously and start from a position of inclusion. "

The British Academy went on to "apologize unreservedly" to Jordan and Lindo, thanking them for "their incredible dignity and professionalism."

***Get your daily dose of entertainment news, celebrity updates, and what to watch with our EW Dispatch newsletter.***

It concluded, "We take full responsibility for putting our guests in a very difficult situation and we apologize to all.  We will learn from this, and keep inclusion at the core of all we do, maintaining our belief in film and storytelling as a critical conduit for compassion and empathy."

The statement came hours after Lindo addressed the incident while speaking to *Vanity Fair* at a Warner Brothers' after-party. The actor noted that he and Jordan "did what we had to do" while presenting, but admitted that he wished "someone from BAFTA spoke to us afterwards."**

Chris Hemsworth may get "sick" of some of his tattoos, but there are some that he will always keep per his daughter's requests.

The Thor star, 43, recently joined Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes during the latest episode of their SmartLess podcast, where he shared the backstory behind some of the ink on his body. Hemsworth shared that he often grows "sick" of his tattoos, revealing that he almost had one removed but his daughter India stopped him.

"My Dr. Seuss tattoo ... I used to read that book to her a lot, and my mom read it to me — Oh, the Places You'll Go — and she just would draw that little character and loved it," he shared. "And so I got that tattoo."

"A few years later, I was like, I'm kinda sick of it. So I started getting it taken off, I did like one laser session, and then she came home one day, and she goes, 'It's rubbing off. What happened to it? It's rubbing off,' " Hemsworth recalled, saying that he thought she had also outgrown the tattoo and was "sick" of it. "She goes, 'No. I love it.' So, it's now kind of half faded, you know, but it's still there."

The Crime 101 star also revealed that he has more tattoos inspired by his daughter on his arm. He pointed out other little drawings from her that are now permanently etched on his skin.

"I was sitting with a tattoo artist one night, and it was, like, 10:00, and he's designing all these different things and all this sort of sacred geometry and trippy-looking stuff. And my daughter walked out and goes, 'Dad, I can't sleep. You're making too much noise.' I'm like, 'Sorry. Sorry,' " he recalled from the evening. "And she sits down and starts squiggling and and drew the three little images here.""[My tattoo artist] looked at me and goes, 'I think [her drawings are] way cooler than anything we're designing, and so I took a photo of that, and that's that," the doting dad continued.

Since tying the knot in 2010, Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky welcomed three children together: daughter India and twin boys Sasha and Tristan, 11. While attending the world premiere of Crime 101 at United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Feb. 10, Hemsworth revealed exclusively to PEOPLE what his children think of his acting career.

"They don't care. They don't care at all," Hemsworth quipped of his children, when asked if he's scoring "cool points" for being a global movie star.

The actor revealed his children were wowed by his films when they were younger, but have since changed their perspective.

"I reckon when they first realized I was Thor, they thought it was really cool," Hemsworth told PEOPLE. "And then they realized they couldn't fly and they thought it was less cool."

"Now they're just like, 'ah, Dad, whatever,' " he said, adding, "Teenagers."
