NBA All-Star Game winners and losers: US vs World format is an upgrade

INGLEWOOD, CA — The 2026 NBA All-Star Game is officially a wrap.

An entertaining showcase on Sunday, Feb. 15 resulted in a victory for Team Stars — a squad composed of mostly younger U.S.-born players — reinvigorated the event, which has faced repeated criticism over a lack of competitive play.

In the All-Star Game championship, Team Stars defeated Team Stripes, which mostly featured a collection of more experienced veterans like LeBron James of the Lakers, Kevin Durant of the Rockets and Kawhi Leonard of the Clippers.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards won the Kobe Bryant Trophy, given to the All-Star Game's Most Valuable Player.

Here are the winners and losers from the 2026 NBA All-Star Game:

It wasn't perfect, but the "U.S. vs. World" format the NBA deployed for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game was a marked improvement over previous iterations of the event. Several players said after the game that it increased motivation and incentive and it helped inject competition into an event that had desperately lacked it.

In essence, the four, 12-minute games converted each contest into its own fourth quarter, ramping up the drama, particularly inside the final minutes. The first three games were decided on the last shot, with two game-winners. The first game went into overtime.

Yet, while the format does deserve ample credit, the real champions were the players who invested their competitive energy into the exhibition.

Anthony Edwards

During All-Star media day on Saturday, Feb. 14, Edwards had more or less shrugged when asked about the lack of competitive behavior in NBA All-Star Games. Apparently, all it took was seeing a fellow future face of the league, Victor Wembanyama, going hard for him to ramp it up.

Edwards scored 32 points across the three games he played and won his first career All-Star Most Valuable Player award.

Victor Wembanyama

He was on the losing side, with Team World being eliminated before the championship game, but Wembanyama was widely seen as the catalyst to inspire more invested, competitive play. That became obvious from the start, as Wembanyama won the tip-off and then slashed to the basket, sealing off Cade Cunningham (Team Stars) for a quick dunk six seconds into the event. It generated instant attention.

"He set the tone, man, and it woke me up," Edwards told reporters after the game. "For sure."

Wembanyama played extremely well, scoring 33 points on 10-of-13 shooting across two games. He was also visibly upset after Team World lost the first game of the night in overtime, indicating that the league — and All-Star — is in good hands with him as a leader.

Kawhi Leonard

Playing in front of his home fans, Leonard popped off for Team Stripes in Game 3, scoring 31 of the team's 48 points in the game — or 64.6%. Leonard drew MVP chants from the crowd and at one point scored 11 consecutive points, willing his team to win. The game-winning, stepback 3 over Karl-Anthony Towns represented his greatness in the game.

Think of it this way: scoring 31 points in an NBA game is elite. Doing it in what's essentially a 12-minute quarter, against the world's best players, is a singular achievement.

Adam Silver

As Silver, the NBA commissioner, has taken criticism recently over his handling of several off-court scandals and his management of the NBA All-Star Game, having the jewel of the weekend succeed is a massively positive step.

There is still work to be done, especially with the Slam Dunk Contest, but there were plenty of fans wondering if the NBA should do away entirely with the All-Star Game. If this is what fans will get, however, the move should be to continue to refine and improve the product.

"Oh, most definitely," 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey, a member of Team Stars, told reporters when asked if the format could set the tone for future All-Star Games. "I think if you have these same type of guys in it, these guys compete."

LOSERSNikola Jokić and Luka Dončić

They are two of the biggest stars in basketball, but they were the lone available players for Team World to record DNP (did-not-play) designations. Granted, both players have been dealing with injury concerns so it made sense to be cautious. But they are also notorious for loafing through All-Star Games. More than anything, however, having two players on a nine-player team sit out put an unfair burden on the Team World stars who were available.

Team Stripes runs out of gas

In what was a compelling matchup of younger domestic stars versus grizzled veterans, it was the uncs and old heads who ran out of steam. Team Stripes went brutally cold in the championship game, missing its first 8 shot attempts of the contest before starting just 3-of-16 (18.8%).

It probably didn't help that Team Stripes had to play consecutive games with little rest.

"Yeah, we can make that excuse," Durant joked after the game. "We can go ahead and make that excuse."

Further specifics are not yet known, though Johnson's wife shared on social media that he had died "suddenly and unexpectedly" during a family trip after recent health issues.

"If you know Tre' you know what a devoted and loving father he was to his children," his wife, Irene, wrote in part. "Tre' lived for his kid's sports activities and supported them through every practice and game until he took his last breath. He shared his passion for Frenchie's and riding his motorcycle with me and his fellow biking buddies."

Johnson spent most of his NFL career in Washington after the franchise selected him with the No. 31 overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft out of Temple. He was a staple in the team's offensive line for years, and he earned his one and only Pro Bowl nod during the 1999 campaign. The team went 10-6 that season and made the playoffs.

Johnson spent one season away from the team in 2001, when he joined the Cleveland Browns, but he appeared in only three games after a right knee injury. He rejoined Washington for one final season in 2002. In total, Johnson appeared in 93 games throughout his nine-year NFL career.

Johnson spent time as a history teacher in the Washington, D.C., area in retirement. His wife, Irene, also worked as a photographer for multiple area news organizations. The couple had four children together.

For the past year, U.S. World Cup roster candidates have made their case at training camps and tournaments, in friendlies and knockout matches. But because the team assembles infrequently, weekly performances with clubs spread across Europe and North America will figure into coach Mauricio Pochettino's decisions.

Which is why, with only the March camp remaining before he selects the 26-man roster for this summer's soccer festival, he and his staff are keeping close tabs on players toiling in their full-time jobs.

For many players, fluctuations will not impact their standing with Pochettino. Of course, it's beneficial to enjoy an upswing in form and production before a U.S. camp. Conversely, substandard performances, lack of playing time or an injury could have adverse effects.

With that in mind, here are five players on the rise and five facing adversity a month before Pochettino sends out invitations to the March 23-31 camp for friendlies against Belgium and Portugal in Atlanta.

Trending up

Patrick Agyemang's leap of faith is paying off. The 6-foot-4 striker left behind his ascending Major League Soccer career last summer for his first contract overseas, with Derby County in the second-flight English Championship.

Had he failed to earn consistent playing time and record goals, the Connecticut native would've fallen off the U.S. radar. Instead, he is soaring.

Saturday's second-half header against Swansea City raised his goal total to 10, tying him for the club lead. Mixing in his three assists, Agyemang leads the Rams in overall production and has helped lift them into contention for the promotion playoffs.

— CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) February 14, 2026

Agyemang, 25, was invited to U.S. camp in October but not in September and November. However, fellow Americans seemingly higher on the depth chart are in a rut overseas — more on them later — and Ricardo Pepi remains sidelined with a fractured forearm. Those factors, combined with Agyemang's productivity, should bolster the former Charlotte FC standout's chances for a March call-up.

Weston McKennie's place on the national team is ironclad, but as a driving force at Juventus under a new coach this winter and playing any number of positions while contributing mightily to the Serie A and Champions League campaigns, the U.S. veteran is enjoying perhaps the best soccer of his life.

McKennie was at it again Saturday, registering two assists in a 3-2 loss at first-place Inter Milan. He has made 26 consecutive starts across all competitions and posted four goals and four assists in Italy, plus three goals in the Champions League, which will continue Tuesday with a first-leg playoff match against Galatasaray.

— CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) February 14, 2026

Offering quality in several jobs, McKennie has lined up recently as a central attacking midfielder. Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti has gone as far as saying the American is the "perfect central striker."

McKennie's resurgence comes as his contract nears its expiration this summer, prompting talk of a big pay raise to stay at Juventus or a free transfer to another major league.

Tanner Tessmann is on the rise because he is a regular starter for one of the hottest clubs in the world, Olympique Lyonnais, which on Sunday extended its winning streak to 13 across all competitions with a 2-0 victory over Nice.

In his second season in France, the 24-year-old midfielder has played in 20-of-22 Ligue 1 matches, starting 17. Lyon has ascended to third place, which would earn a Champions League berth next season, and pulled within six points of Paris Saint-Germain and seven of Lens with 12 matches left. In the Europa League, Lyon was the best team in the first stage and earned a bye to next month's round of 16.

With the national team, Tessmann has made a strong case for starting in the two-man defensive midfield set-up that Pochettino has often deployed.

Speaking of defensive midfield, World Cup incumbent Tyler Adams makes this list, not because of performance but simply because he is healthy again. Expected to miss two to three months with a knee injury, Adams returned to Bournemouth's match-day roster in less than two months.

He has not played since Dec. 15 but was available last Tuesday at Everton and, after the club's weekend off, might see action Saturday at West Ham. Barring a setback, Adams is on track for a U.S. call-up next month.

With some uncertainty in the U.S. center-back corps, Auston Trusty is making the most of his opportunity at Scottish club Celtic.

Helping fill the void left by countryman Cameron Carter-Vickers' Achilles' tendon injury in October, the 27-year-old Trusty has gone the distance in 23 of his past 24 consecutive appearances across all competitions. (A red card prevented him from finishing that one match.) He also scored in back-to-back Europa League matches last month.

Chris Richards and Tim Ream are certain of making the World Cup squad, but Trusty is in the mix with Mark McKenzie, Miles Robinson, Noahkai Banks, among others, for one of at least two additional spots.

Monaco's Folarin Balogun continues to struggle, but is still one of the USMNT's best options at center forward. (BSR Agency via Getty Images)Trending down

Strikers are streaky, and right now, Folarin Balogun is on a bad streak. Pochettino's No. 1 center forward has gone scoreless in 11-of-12 matches at Monaco, the only goal coming against a third-division opponent in the French Cup five weeks ago.

Unless the rut continues into spring, Pochettino surely will maintain his faith in Balogun, who scored in three U.S. friendlies last fall and three consecutive Champions League matches in November-December.

Scoring issues have also stung Haji Wright, who tallied twice against Australia in October, then fired blanks for 15 consecutive matches with Coventry City in the English Championship.

He ended the skid in consecutive matches last month but is in a three-game rut entering Monday's showdown with Middlesbrough. With 10 goals, Wright shares the Coventry lead with two others.

Regarded as No. 2 behind Balogun on the depth chart, he might have slipped behind Agyemang and could face a challenge from Pepi, who is expected back at PSV Eindhoven soon.

Remember how giddy everyone was about Gio Reyna's performances in his U.S. return during the November international window? It was for good reason. He displayed qualities long shrouded by injuries and off-field issues, and seemed on course to not only make the World Cup team, but perhaps start.

The enigmatic midfielder did carry those two efforts into increased playing time at Mönchengladbach. After the Bundesliga's winter break, however, he found himself back on the bench, and a muscle injury has kept him in street clothes the past four matches.

Reyna, 23, seems just too good to leave off the World Cup team, but unless things get better in Germany soon, Pochettino will weigh whether to invite him to March training camp.

At 19, Yunus Musah was a key figure at the 2022 World Cup and on course to start in midfield for years to come. Upon Pochettino's arrival in 2024, though, Musah didn't seem to fit into the system. And now, amid a stalled first season at Atalanta after three at AC Milan, Musah's World Cup outlook is fading fast.

He didn't play in a 2-0 victory at Lazio, the fifth time in seven games he's remained on the bench. He has made just three starts in Serie A and two in the Champions League. It's been almost a year since his last national team call-up.

Having gone six years since his last U.S. goal and missing out on the October and November camps, Josh Sargent was already a long shot for the World Cup.

Had he kept scoring at Norwich City in England's second division this winter, he could have clung to hope. But he's not only not scoring, he's not even in uniform. Demanding a transfer to MLS, the St. Louis native was sent to train with the under-21 squad and hasn't been named to the first-team squad since Jan. 4.

Barring a move before MLS' March 26 transfer deadline — and an extraordinary scoring run — Sargent will need to turn attention to 2030.

Former NFL offensive lineman Tre' Johnson died on Sunday while the family was on a trip, according to a Facebook post from his wife, Irene. He was 54 years old.

"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my husband, Tre' Johnson, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly ... during a brief family trip," Irene Johnson wrote. "His four children, Chloe, EJ, EZ and Eden, extended family, friends, and I are devastated and in shock."

After playing college football at Temple, he was selected with the 31st overall pick in the 1994 draft by Washington. Johnson spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career in Washington before spending the 2001 season with the Browns.

He returned to Washington for his final season in the league, starting three of the 10 games he played in during the 2002 season.

He started 72 of the 93 games he played in, and was also named to the Pro Bowl in 1999.

The Washington Commanders posted the following on their official X account: "We're heartbroken to learn of the loss of former Washington All-Pro guard Tre' Johnson. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones."

After finishing his NFL career, he became a history teacher at Landon School, a private school in Bethesda, Maryland. Johnson had taken a leave of absence from the school due to recent health issues, according to his wife.

She addressed the legal drama at part 1 of The Real Housewives of Potomac season 10 reunion, which aired on Sunday, Feb. 15

In the episode, the couple revealed details of the day they were taken into custody and how their kids found out

Wendy Osefo is opening up about her and husband Eddie Osefo's legal troubles.

The Real Housewives of Potomac season 10 reunion part 1 began with footage captured a week after Wendy and Eddie were arrested on fraud charges in October 2025. During the emotional scene filmed at home, the couple reflected on the day police arrived at their house and took them into custody.

"I feel like I'm in a constant nightmare — the house doesn't even feel the same," Wendy said. "Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would lead to us being taken away handcuffs. It's so crazy and it feels like a bad dream."

She started to cry when Eddie recalled hearing their youngest daughter on the line, while Wendy spoke to her sister about taking care of their three kids, Karter, 12, Kruz, 10, and Kamrynn Kapri, 6, the night they were in jail.

"She's so innocent, she had no idea what's going on," Wendy said. "She was just so happy you're gonna spend the night with auntie. She was just like, 'Okay, mommy, I'll see you tomorrow.' And I didn't know if I was gonna see her tomorrow. I was so scared. I was just worried about the kids. I was so scared for them. This is real tough."

She then asked Eddie: "Do you think this is gonna affect our marriage?"

"It has impact," he replied. "I think it's gonna impact us."

Wendy agreed, admitting, "I just know after this incident, I'm not the same person, and I hope that I'll be okay with you, because I'm not the same. I don't think I'll ever be the same."

She later joined the cast on stage, as host Andy Cohen asked her how she and her family have been navigating the situation. After noting that "the investigation is still ongoing," she shared how her children are doing.

"It varies, because you have someone like Kam, who is not aware of what's going on. Then you have Karter, who was actually aware when everything happened," she said. "We tried to shield him. Immediately it happened, I called my mom and my sister to pick up the kids, because the kids weren't home when this happened, so thank God they didn't see anything. I was taking a nap, and I wake up to Eddie saying, 'Baby, the police are here.'"

"Karter knew something was up, because the fact that they're randomly spending the night with my mom and my sister, Karter was just like, something is going on," she continued. "And he opened his phone and he actually saw everything."

Wendy added that her eldest didn't tell anyone that he knew about the arrests until the next day, when she and Eddie picked him up from school after being released from jail.

"We were pretending like everything was fine, and he was in the back of the car, and I was like, 'Baby, what's wrong?'" she said. "And he said, 'Where were you?' And I just looked in his eyes, and I've always promised my kids, I'll never lie to you, and then he just started crying. I just held him, and we just cried together in the backseat of Eddie's car, just hugging each other."

Since that moment, Wendy said that she and Eddie are honest with Karter about the situation, and tell him when they have to go to court so he isn't surprised by anything online.

"I never want him to be blindsided like that again," she noted.

She also addressed her mugshot photo, which drew criticism because she appeared to be laughing while it was taken.

"The guy who was taking my picture, he was really nice," Wendy said. "He was like, 'Give me another look, give me another.' He was playing around with me because he knew it was heavy. I was crying in there. I was sad. So he was just trying to cheer me up."

When Cohen asked if she regretted smiling, she stated: "I don't regret smiling, because at the end of the day, I think we've all been through things, and you try to smile through the pain, no matter how heavy it is."

She further clarified that neither she nor her husband took any marijuana edibles from their brand, Happy Eddie, despite internet speculation. She said Eddie did look "far gone" because he had been asleep in his holding cell before taking the photo.

The couple ended up spending the night in jail, which Wendy described as "scary." She said she is "absolutely terrified" of what's to come. "But my faith is what's carrying me."

On Oct. 10, 2025, Wendy and Eddie were taken into custody in Maryland as the Westminster Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that the pair were facing 16 charges, seven of which were felonies related to alleged "false/misleading info fraud" in excess of $300.

Police alleged that the couple claimed designer bags and jewelry were missing from their bedroom during a reported burglary while they were in Jamaica in April 2024. Wendy was allegedly seen wearing one of the diamond rings on social media. An investigation determined that other items they said were stolen were purchased and returned to their respective stores and a "full refund was provided prior to the alleged burglary."

One day after the arrest, a spokesperson for the couple confirmed they were "back home safely with their family and in good spirits."

"They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues," the representative wrote, adding that they "look forward to their day in court."

Days later, Wendy resigned from her role as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Wesleyan University. At the time, her rep clarified that she was not fired, and instead "formally submitted her letter of resignation prior to any public announcement made by the university."

Wendy broke her silence for the first time after her arrest in an Instagram post on Oct. 19. She shared a photo of herself posing in a black-and-white gown with the caption: "And through it all, GOD remains faithful."

"Thank you for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers for myself and most importantly my family during this time. We are forever grateful🙏🏾," she added.

Former President Barack Obama is clarifying his stance on aliens.

On Friday, February 13, Obama appeared to confirm the existence of aliens during a podcast conversation with Brian Tyler Cohen.

"They're real, but I haven't seen them," Obama said. "They're not being kept at Area 51. There's no underground facility — unless there's this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the President of the United States."

Obama, who was in office from 2009 to 2017, noted that the "first question he wanted answered" when he became president was: "Where are the aliens?"

After the former president's comments went viral online, he took to Instagram on Sunday, Feb. 15 to set the record straight.

"I was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round, but since it's gotten attention let me clarify," Obama captioned his post, which featured a video of the viral remarks. "Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there's life out there. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we've been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!"

This isn't the first time Obama has said he believes aliens may exist, either. During a 2021 appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, he made similar comments about wanting to know about the truth about aliens when he first assumed the presidency.

"The truth is, that when I came into office, I asked, 'Is there a lab somewhere where we're keeping the alien specimens and spaceship?'" he said at the time.

North West is only 12. But a new report claims she is already taking steps toward launching a career through her own fashion brand. Her mom, Kim Kardashian, is leading the business side. Besides, Kardashian has reportedly filed trademark paperwork for a new name linked to North. Together, the steps signal plans for a clothing and jewelry venture, putting the preteen on her own career path.

Kim Kardashian's daughter North West reportedly launching her own fashion brand

The Sun exclusively reported that North West is prepared to launch her career with a fashion brand. It's called "NOR11," and Kim Kardashian is right by her side. Notably, the name appears to combine the start of her first name with "11," which The Sun suggested could point to her age when the business idea started to brew in the Kardashian household.

Moreover, the report noted that Kardashian has filed three separate trademark applications for "NOR11." They cover a wide range of items, including clothing and accessories like dresses, shoes, hats, and stockings, while also listing jewelry and watches, such as bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and rings. A third category includes bags and small items, such as handbags, wallets, and cosmetic cases.

Additionally, the report claimed that the filings were submitted through a company called KimYe's Kid Inc. It was incorporated in California in August 2023. While the name suggests both Kardashian and Kanye West, The U.S. Sun highlighted that California records list Kardashian as the only officer, drawing scrutiny over how involved North's father is, if at all, in this project.

Fans might have already seen it coming. The report pointed to North's Instagram posts from December that showed her and friends wearing black fur hats featuring the "NOR11" logo.

As of now, the trademarks related to North West's career suggest that Kim Kardashian plans to move ahead with the fashion and jewelry brand. And the report paints a picture of a venture that could be a turning point for the 12-year-old.
