The Blackfyre Rebellion in Westeros, Explained HBO

The first Blackfyre Rebellion forms the political backdrop of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, even though the uprising occurred roughly 15 years before the events of the series. There were five major Blackfyre Rebellions over the course of sixty years between the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. These civil wars were fought primarily between House Targaryen, the ruling dynasty in Westeros, and House Blackfyre, the legitimized bastard offspring of King Aegon IV. The largest and the last uprising culminated in the War of the Ninepenny Kings, which extinguished the male Blackfyre line. That last war, however, also occurred 25 years prior to Robert's Rebellion, a catalyst for the events of Game of Thrones and the fall of House Targaryen.

Below, a brief history of the first Blackfyre Rebellion and how it pertains to the events of season one of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

The origins of House Blackfyre

House Blackfyre emerged from the reign of King Aegon IV Targaryen, whose decision to legitimize his bastards reshaped the royal family. Within Game of Thrones lore, it is said Aegon IV had more than 900 lovers, so he had many, many illegitimate children. But the Blackfyres are primarily made up of the offspring from his relationships with highborn ladies of the court.

Among them was Daemon Blackfyre, born of his relationship with his cousin, Princess Daena. Daemon was raised at court and publicly honored when Aegon IV bestowed him with the gift of "Blackfyre," a Valyrian steel sword long regarded as a symbol of Targaryen kingship. Many lords interpreted the ceremony as an endorsement, even though Aegon IV already named his lawful son Daeron II Targaryen as his successor. The competing claims hardened into rival houses, with Daemon taking the name Blackfyre and establishing a splinter royal line.

The first Blackfyre Rebellion

Prince Baelor (Bertie Carvel) was Hand of the King and heir to King Daeron II. HBO

After Aegon's passing, the Iron Throne passed to his lawful son, Daeron II Targaryen. Supporters of Daemon argued that he embodied the warrior ideal of a Targaryen king, compared to Daeron, whose platform was focused on peace and diplomacy. He would eventually unite Dorne with the Seven Kingdoms through his marriage with Myriah Martell, an ancestor of Ser Oberyn (Pedro Pascal). The dispute escalated into open war, dividing great houses and forcing nobles to choose sides. The rebellion ended with Daemon's death on the Redgrass Field, securing Daeron II's rule but leaving deep scars.

The Blackfyre faction did not vanish with Daemon's defeat. His descendants continue to press claims in later years, and rumors of renewed conflict circulate during Dunk and Egg's adventures.

The aftermath in Dunk and Egg's era

By the time A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms begins, the rebellion is over, yet its consequences remain close to the surface. Many knights and lords who fought are still alive, some carrying grievances. This explains the caution surrounding political speech and the mistrust directed at unfamiliar banners.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is now streaming on HBO Max.

In the cold winter months, I love nothing more than channeling my inner George Costanza and going full "soup mode." I love my grandmother's chicken soup, my favorite pho from the takeout place down the street and my mom's split pea with a corn muffin on the side. I don't discriminate when it comes to soup. I love it all. However, when it's time to make a batch, most of my go-to soup recipes fall into one of two camps: either thin and brothy that you can sip like a cup of tea or a hearty stew that's basically a full meal in a mug.So when I came across Martina McBride's Creamy Chicken Tortilla Soup, which McBride shared with Parade, I was intrigued. The recipe comes from the country singer's cookbook, Martina's Kitchen Mix, and it promises something a little different. Its creamy texture comes from three different kinds of dairy (four if you top it with cheese) and there are two kinds of beans, plus a kick of heat mixed in with the juicy shredded chicken.McBride knew what she was doing here. This recipe lands squarely in the cozy, comforting territory—it's the kind of soup you want bubbling away on the stove when it's cold and dark and you need dinner to feel like a big hug while you're snuggled under your electric blanket on the couch (just me?).To make sure the recipe was as tasty as it looked online, I headed to the kitchen to give it a try. I had most of the ingredients I needed already, which I took as a sign. Read on to find out exactly how to make the spicy soup, plus the tips you to get it just right.Related: I Tried 9 Canned Beef Stews and the Winner Won by a Landslide

For this soup, grab boneless, skinless chicken breasts, kosher salt, black pepper, chicken broth, canola oil, a yellow onion, jalapeño, garlic, chili powder (or chipotle chili powder), cumin, paprika, canned tomatoes with diced green chiles, masa harina or finely ground corn tortillas, milk, black beans, pinto beans, corn, heavy cream and sour cream, along with your favorite garnishes, like diced avocado, cilantro and shredded Mexican cheese.

McBride starts by cooking the chicken in the oven with broth until tender, then she shreds it and sets it aside. Next, onion, jalapeño and garlic are sautéed in a soup pot until softened. Once the vegetables are soft, the remaining broth, the reserved cooking liquid from the chicken pan, chili powder, cumin, paprika and tomatoes are added to the veggies.

Masa (or ground corn tortillas) mixed with milk goes in next to thicken the soup, followed by the shredded chicken, beans and corn. She finishes the soup with cream and sour cream, and garnishes the bowl with more avocado, cheese and more sour cream.

My Honest Thoughts About This Soup

Courtesy of Jessica Wrubel (Courtesy of Jessica Wrubel)

I love a good chicken soup with all the toppings, and this one hits in the very best way. It's hearty without being too heavy, and just spicy enough that you can enjoy it without needing a glass of milk on the side (after all, this is dinner, not an episode of Hot Ones). I've made countless variations of chicken tortilla soup over the years, but this one genuinely surprised me.

The balance of flavors is truly out of this world. McBride nailed the amounts of everything here. I've never added sour cream, milk and cream to a soup before (usually, for me, it's just finishing with cream, something I'm a huge fan of), but the sour cream adds a subtle tang, which is absolutely delicious with the rest of the bold flavors.

The other unexpected twist (at least to me) was using masa or tortillas to thicken the soup. I went with the corn tortilla option, grinding them up and mixing them with milk, as McBride instructs. I loved the texture and flavor the tortillas brought to the dish.

Courtesy of Jessica Wrubel (Courtesy of Jessica Wrubel)

I ate two bowls for lunch the day I made the soup and then went back for dinner the next night. And I have to say, like most things, it was even more flavorful the next day after the flavors had time to really get to know each other. This one, for me, is a total keeper.

2 Tips for Making This Tortilla Soup1. Work smarter, not harder

Instead of baking the chicken in the oven, I cooked it in the pot I was using for the soup to keep it a mostly one-pot meal. That method was much easier and just as effective (in my opinion). The only adjustment I made was adding a little more broth to the soup because McBride bakes the chicken with broth and then adds that to the dish.

2. Use what you have

I didn't have a bag of masa harina, but I did have my trusty Trader Joe's corn tortillas, so I took about 4 of them and ground them up in the food processor, then whisked with the milk and added to the soup pot. I'm definitely keeping this trick in mind for future soups.

After a 16-year break, Liam and Noel Gallagher returned for an Oasis reunion tour in late 2025. Now, the brothers are rumored to be planning a 2027 comeback with a tour and new music.

On Saturday, an insider reached out to the Sun to tease new information regarding a possible upcoming return. The source explained that while the brothers are taking a much-needed break after their reunion tour, they aren't quite done with the band yet.

"Noel and Liam are taking a well-deserved break from the road this year to recuperate," the source said. "But they know the fans are hungry for more so they want to strike while the iron is hot."

According to the mole, lead guitarist and primary songwriter Noel has been busy writing new material all year, finding inspiration in the hectic touring schedule. "Noel has been busy writing and they have all year to record. He was really inspired last year and is full of ideas." This news is perfectly timed, as Noel is set to receive "Songwriter of The Year" BRIT award later this month.

If confirmed, this potential album will mark the bands first full-length album since 2008, when they released their seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul.

Oasis spilt in late 2009 after severe infighting took place between Noel and Liam. The brothers had a physical altercation backstage of the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, leading to the cancellation of their set and the remainder of their tour.

Until August 2024, the two kept their 15-year-long feud alive, commonly throwing insults back and forth through the press, so their reunion tour announcement came as a pleasant surprise to fans. After the reunion tour concluded without issue, longtime fans began sharing possible comeback theories.

Now, those hopeful prospects regarding new material don't seem so far off.

Jennifer Aniston and Jim Curtis were first romantically linked in July 2025.

Aniston soft launched their relationship in September 2025.

In November 2025, Aniston went Instagram official with Curtis.

Jennifer Aniston has kept her love life largely out of the public eye since her 2018 split from Justin Theroux, but that appears to be changing. In July 2025, the Friends star was photographed vacationing in Mallorca, Spain, with Jim Curtis, a wellness expert whose résumé spans everything from hypnotherapy to roles at major health platforms. Days later, People and Us Weekly confirmed that Aniston and Curtis were dating.

Things became more serious, and on Nov. 2, 2025, Aniston went Instagram official with her partner. She later spoke about him in her ELLE Women in Hollywood interview, calling him "quite extraordinary." Below, everything to know about Curtis.

Curtis is a wellness coach, author, and hypnotherapist.

Curtis refers to himself as a "wellness pioneer, author, and coach," on his official website. His approach blends subconscious work, mindfulness, and spiritual coaching to help people "break free from their past to create an entirely new, empowered reality."

Curtis's background includes roles at WebMD and Everyday Health. He now works as a transformational coach and speaker, offering services he calls "hypno-realizations."

He's spoken openly about overcoming chronic illness.

Curtis's focus on healing is personal. At 22 years old, he was diagnosed with lesions on his spinal cord, which led to years of chronic pain, muscle spasms, and mobility issues. "It was unknown how they started, but I very rapidly became ill and soon had trouble walking," he said in a 2018 interview with Fast Company.

"My own illness and disability forced me to confront the limited beliefs, disconnection, and trauma that were keeping me sad, sick, and alone," Curtis writes on his website. "Through many powerful tools, including hypno-realization, I not only transformed my physical health, depression, and relationships, but I've also helped thousands of others break free to create an entirely new reality full of connection, community, and love."

He's the author of two books on healing and transformation.

Curtis has written two books: The Stimulati Experience (2017), which outlines nine principles for overcoming pain and setbacks, and Shift: Quantum Manifestation Guide (2024), co-authored with Sara Hadir.

In May 2025, Aniston shared a photo of one of Curtis's books in an Instagram carousel, tagging him in the post.

Curtis has a large following on Instagram and a star-studded client list.

Curtis has cultivated a strong online presence, posting manifestation exercises and motivational videos for over 550,000 followers. His content regularly covers themes like emotional resilience, moving on from heartbreak, and building self-worth. Some of his past clients include Miranda Kerr and Julianne Hough.

He was first linked to Aniston in June 2025.

Curtis and Aniston were first spotted together at the luxury resort Ventana Big Sur in California. A source told Page Six they appeared "cuddled up" while dining at the hotel's restaurant in June.

In July, they were photographed again in Mallorca, alongside Aniston's longtime friends Jason Bateman and his wife, Amanda Anka. Photos published by Daily Mail showed Aniston introducing Curtis to the couple before they boarded a yacht.

More photos published by the Daily Mail a few days later showed Aniston and Curtis getting affectionate aboard the vessel, holding hands and leaning in toward one another. In one image, Curtis touches the actress's hair in a sweet gesture.

Their connection started earlier than their vacation, with a friend setting them up.

While the Mallorca trip brought their rumored romance into the public eye, Aniston and Curtis connected before. According to Daily Mail, Aniston has followed Curtis on Instagram for nearly two years and has liked numerous posts on topics such as healing, affirmations, and relationships.

In April, she told Travel + Leisure that she'd recently begun using hypnosis to overcome her fear of flying, though she didn't mention Curtis by name. "But I have been doing some hypnosis lately... it's shockingly good!" she said.

On July 13, 2025, a source told People that Curtis and Aniston were set up by a friend. "They've been seeing each other for a few months now," the source said. "They were introduced by a friend and started out as friends. Jen had read his book and was familiar with his work. She's really into self-help and wellness. They are dating, but it's still casual."

Curtis and Aniston enjoyed the early days of their romance in private.

A source told Us Weekly on July 10 that the new couple has been keeping their romance private. "They've been hanging out a lot, but very much on the DL at her home in L.A.," the insider explained. "It's very Zen, and she has always been very much into that. They're a good match."

The source added that they're "happy and really into each other."

Curtis also co-founded a personal branding company.

Beyond coaching, Curtis is the co-founder of UFACTORY, a branding firm that helps creators and entrepreneurs grow their digital identities. The company's mission, per its website, is to build "creator, entrepreneur, and CEO personas that attract loyal fandoms and supercharge revenue opportunities."

Curtis shared a heartfelt message after their summer getaway.

In mid-July, shortly after a vacation in Mallorca with Aniston, Curtis wrote in his newsletter per Page Six, "I am back from vacation and what an experience! When I was sick, sad, stuck and in pain I never thought I would have the abundance, joy, and love I now experience on a daily basis."

Curtis and Aniston were photographed out at dinner with close friends in August 2025.

On August 4, Aniston and Curtis were seen in New York City enjoying a dinner with Jason Bateman and Amanda Anka, days after returning from their trip in Spain.

The pair reportedly connected over a mutual love of dogs.

On August 8, Curtis was photographed in New York City's Tribeca with Aniston and his rescue dog, Odie. "Jennifer really bonded with Jim over his love for rescue dogs," a source told Daily Mail. "Instead of dating around, he rescued Odie, which gave him so much love he didn't have to run around with random women. He had been single for a while, so when he met Jennifer, he had a clean slate."

They were seen together again in Malibu in mid-August 2025.

On August 18, the couple was spotted in Malibu with Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid, photographed leaving Nobu together. Aniston opted for a laid-back look with a blue jacket layered over a white shirt, paired with relaxed blue jeans and thin-framed glasses.

Curtis kept his look casual in a dark denim button-down worn open over a gray T-shirt, paired with green trousers and white sneakers.

They were back in New York in September 2025.

Aniston and Curtis were photographed back in New York City on Friday, September 5. Aniston wore a white tank top, a gauzy ivory-colored jacket, and a pair of blue jeans with gray patch details. She carried a black purse over one shoulder and wore a pair of black thong sandals. Curtis followed behind in a black jacket, matching pants, and white T-shirt.

Aniston soft-launched her relationship with Curtis on Instagram in September 2025.

On September 7, Aniston shared an Instagram recapping her summer. The second-to-last slide was a photo showing the back of Curtis's head as he looked out at a sunset over the ocean. She captioned the post, "Thank you summer ☀️❤️🙏."

Other slides featured pics of her spending time with friends, including Courteney Cox, Sandra Bullock, Sean Hayes, and Adam Sandler.

Curtis supported Aniston at The Morning Show season 4 premiere.

On September 10, Curtis stepped out with Aniston at the season 4 premiere of The Morning Show. Aniston walked the carpet on her own in a simple black gown, with Curtis standing nearby as she posed for photos.

Eric Charbonneau - Getty ImagesHe made comments about love in October 2025.

During a Q&A on Instagram, Curtis was asked, "How to find love at 42?"

He answered, "That's a great question, same as you do at 22 and 32 but with more confidence, more experience and more authenticity. You're not old. First love yourself and recognize that you are the perfect age. And that life is not over at 42. When you are 62 and 72, you will look back at 42 and wish that you were that age."

He continued, "So start now. Go out, open yourself to love. Make eye contact and smile. Connect with people, and most importantly, love yourself. When you love yourself, you will magnetize more love to you."

Aniston went Instagram official with Curtis in November 2025.

On November 2, Aniston celebrated Curtis's birthday by posting a black-and-white image of them on Instagram with the caption, "Happy birthday my love. Cherished ❤️"

They reportedly have a strong connection and "let each other shine."

On November 9, Entertainment Tonight reported that Aniston and Curtis's relationship is heading in a good direction. A source told the outlet that Aniston is "so happy," adding, "They just get each other. They're both funny, spiritual, and it just works."

The insider noted, "Jim is successful and is used to being in the celebrity world through his work as a life coach, so he feels totally comfortable with Jen and her friends." The source also revealed how the couple shares a mutual respect, saying, "They're very supportive of each other and let each other shine."

Aniston spoke about Curtis in her ELLE Women in Hollywood interview, praising his work and character.

Aniston made her first remarks about Curtis in her November 2025 ELLE Women in Hollywood interview, calling out the incredible work the life coach is doing.

"Hypnotism is one of the many things that he does," she began. "He's quite extraordinary, and helps many, many people. He's very special, very normal, and very kind, and wants to help people heal, move through their trauma and stagnation into clarity. It's a beautiful thing to commit your life to."

A source offered an update on their "different relationship."

A source speaking with People on Nov. 15, 2025, shared an update on their connection.

"Their relationship is different," said the insider. "She's very excited about it."

They continued, "It's obvious that she admires him. She talks about how he has amazing energy, and she loves what he does for living, because it truly helps people, including herself."

Curtis is "kind and grounded."

"She acts like she feels very safe with him. She's really in a great place," said the source. "They both liked little rituals and moments that are grounding. They are both into symbolism."

They enjoyed a date night in Hollywood in November 2025.

The couple stepped out on November 14 in the Hollywood Hills for dinner, wearing matching black ensembles. They headed to dinner at the Italian restaurant, Pace, with friends Jamie and Nico Mizrahi.

Later in November 2025, Aniston featured Curtis in a sweet Instagram video, calling him "cute."

On November 25, 2025, Aniston posted a video showing fans how to use products from her haircare line, Lolavie, to tame frizzy hair while keeping its waves. In the clip, she blends her brand's hair paste and oil before applying it to Curtis's locks as the hypnotist smiles into the camera. She ends the clip, calling Curtis's primped look "cute."

A source shared how they connected over phone calls in December 2025.

A source speaking with People says that the Friends star was "cautious" when she first started speaking to Curtis, but then she "just went for it."

The pair spent a lot of time "chatting and getting to know each other" first.

"Jen really valued their friendship in the beginning of the year," the insider shared. "When it all took a turn to something more romantic, she was cautious at first. Now, she's excited that she just went for it."

The source said it "feels like kismet" that they have met and The Morning Show star "truly loves" the influencer.

"He's brought so many good things into her life," they added.

Aniston and Curtis attended the life coach's book event in January 2026.

Aniston was seen with Curtis on Jan. 3, 2026, at his book event at Godmother's bookstore in Summerland, California. Curtis was hosting A Deep Reset for the New Year, and the actress dressed casually for the afternoon in a green sweater and jeans.

Curtis revealed when he and Aniston started dating in a January 2026 interview.

During a January 26 appearance on the Today show, Curtis addressed his relationship with Aniston, revealing how they met and when they started dating.

He told the hosts, "We were just introduced by friends. Yeah, that's it. We found out that we had mutual friends, and we started to just chat." Their connection developed gradually, he explained, saying, "It took a long time. We chatted for a long time, and we became close."

When Craig Melvin asked how long Curtis and Aniston had been together, the life coach replied, "A long time—months now, almost close to a year."

Curtis shared a tribute to Aniston for her birthday in February 2026.

On February 11, Curtis shared new photos with Aniston to celebrate her birthday. In the first slide, the couple is laughing together on what looks like the deck of a boat. Aniston is bent over giggling and has her hand at Curtis's waist while he reaches to grab her shoulder. In the second picture, they're sharing a kiss.

In the caption, Curtis wrote, "HBD MY ❤️."

They celebrated Valentine's Day together in 2026.

On Valentine's Day, Aniston posted a photo in her Instagram Stories. The image was focused on a box of Sweethearts candies with the words "Cutie Pie" written in a big yellow heart on the front. In the background, Curtis can be seen just out of focus wearing a dark T-shirt and looking down at something on the table in front of him.

Dua Lipa kept busy "levitating" a certain red carpet on Valentine's Day, thanks to her fiancé's world premiere.

Callum Turner's new film Rosebush Pruning just screened at Berlinale — otherwise known as the Berlin Film Festival — an event that was surprised to see his superstar partner, 30, appear by his side leading up to premiere.

As the dazzling photos reveal, the couple looks head-over-heels for each other as they posed for photographers. Lipa donned a see-through lace gown, while Turner, 36, sported a chic brown suit. As Variety noted, were plenty of smiles, laughs and kisses on each other's cheeks before Lipa finally stepped off, allowing the Fantastic Beasts actor own the spotlight.

The "Don't Start Now" singer then posted an epic Instagram carousel following Turner's premiere to showcase the barrage of glamorous photos taken of the star couple. "V-day in Berlin 🌹 Rosebush Pruning Premiere 🌹," the caption of her post read. See below.

Fans flooded the post's comments section to show their admiration and support of pop superstar. In addition to the endless love-themed Emojis, one Instagram user wrote, "The hottest couple!!" while another person commented, "match made in heaven ❤️."

The satirical film Rosebush Pruning has a stacked cast that also features:

Riley Keough

Jamie Bell

Elle Fanning

Lukas Gage

Tracy Letts

Pamela Anderson

All were on hand at the premiere besides Keough, 36, and Fanning, 27. Variety also noted on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Rosebush Pruning follows four American siblings as they "wallow in isolation and their inherited fortune, eschewing the demands of their blind father and seeking love and validation through each other and their latest designer clothes," per the film's synopsis.

Earlier on Saturday at the film's press conference, Turner was questioned about rumors that he may be the next James Bond, according to Variety. "It's very early for that question," he said with a reportedly slight smirk. "I'm not going to comment on it."

Ted Levine, who played Buffalo Bill in the film Silence of the Lambs, spoke out about transphobia criticism the movie has received since its release 35 years ago.

"There are certain aspects of the movie that don't hold up too well," Levine told The Hollywood Reporter.

Buffalo Bill was a serial killer that murdered women in order to harvest their skin to wear.

Despite the character's sexual orientation not being outwardly stated, he was seen as trans and gender-nonconforming in the film.

"We all know more, and I'm a lot wiser about transgender issues," he added to the outlet. "There are some lines in that script and movie that are unfortunate."

"[It's] just over time and having gotten aware and worked with trans folks, and understanding a bit more about the culture and the reality of the meaning of gender," Levine said.

"It's unfortunate that the film vilified that, and it's f------- wrong. And you can quote me on that," Levine noted.

Despite that, Levin said about his performance as Buffalo Bill: "I didn't play him as being gay or trans. I think he was just a f------up heterosexual man. That's what I was doing."

In the film, Anthony Hopkins played Hannibal Lecter, who is consulted by FBI trainee Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster.

Lecter is a cannibalistic serial killer who advises Starling, in order to help capture Buffalo Bill.

The film, directed by Jonathan Demme, was released on Valentine's Day in 1991, and ended up becoming a global hit. It won five Oscars, including best actor, best actress, best screenplay, best director and best picture.

Demme's producing partner, Edward Saxon, said to the outlet: "We were really loyal to the book. As we made the film, there was just no question in our minds that Buffalo Bill was a completely aberrant personality — that he wasn't gay or trans."

"He was sick. To that extent, we missed it. From my point of view, we weren't sensitive enough to the legacy of a lot of stereotypes and their ability to harm," he explained to THR.

"There's regret, but it didn't come from any place of malice. It actually came from a place of seeing this guy. We all had dear friends and family who were gay. We thought it would just be very clear that Buffalo Bill adapts different things from society, from a place of an incredibly sick pathology," Saxon said.
