Meet the Cast and Characters of Netflix’s ‘Below’

Netflix There’s a lot of pressure on shows in October to be spooky. ’Tis the season, and all! Below , the new Netflix thriller from writer Jesse McKeown, seems to be handling that pressure well. The limited series, about a close-knit rural community that gets terrorized by a sea creature, is packed with horror alums and also some Canadian natives. Here’s what you need to know about the cast of Below and who they play.

Below is set in Newfoundland, Canada. (Between this series and the Crave/AMC series Yaga , Canada is having a big supernatural thriller month, eh?) Josh Hartnett plays a fisherman named Calvin who goes up against the monster attacking his village. There’s also an iceberg involved. The other characters make up his extended family and friends in the area. Here’s who you need to look out for on Below .

Josh Hartnett is currently dividing fans in the twisty adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Verity as Jeremy Crawford, husband of the titular character.

The 00s star best known for movies like Black Hawk Down, The Virgin Suicides , and Pearl Harbor has been having a bit of a Renaissance moment, especially after his memorable scenes in Oppenheimer and villainous turn in M. Night Shyamalan’s movie Trap. Next up, Harnett is starring in a Oliver Stone movie called White Lies.

If you haven’t seen Mackenzie Davis in either the AMC series Halt and Catch Fire or the HBO miniseries Station Eleven , congrats! You now have two masterpieces to add to your watchlist.

She’s also in an episode of Black Mirror called “San Junipero” that’s famous for not being as depressing as all the other episodes of Black Mirror . It’s sweet and romantic!

On the big screen, you’ve seen Davis in Tully, The Martian, Happiest Season, Blade Runner 2049, Speak No Evil, and Terminator: Dark Fate .

You already know that Charlie Heaton recently completed a long Netflix run as Jonathan Byers on Stranger Things.

He then showed up in Industry ’s fourth season. Some of his other credits include Joanna Hogg’s The Souvenir Part II, The New Mutants , and Marrowbone . Next up, you can see him on the upcoming Peaky Blinders sequel series.

Natasha Henstridge is a Canadian actress (actually from Newfoundland) best known for the horror franchise Species as well as shows like She Spies, Commander in Chief, Eli Stone, The Secret Circle, Selfie, and Diggstown . She won a Gemini Award—which I know from Degrassi is similar to the Emmy in Canada—for the 2008 miniseries Would Be Kings .

Joshua Close plays Officer Jaxon Noseworthy

Joshua Close is a Canadian actor with many, many credits to his name including K-19: The Widowmaker, Killers of the Flower Moon , The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair , Person of Interest , Fargo , The Unusuals , and The Master.

Rohan Campbell starred as Frank in The Hardy Boys and has also appeared in the (sorta) holiday-themed slasher movies Halloween Ends and Silent Night Deadly Night . You might also know him from guest roles on shows like The 100, iZombie, Once Upon a Time, Supernatural, Virgin River, Sacred Lies , and Snowpiercer.

Willow Kean is a novelist and playwright in addition to acting. Her prior television credits include Hudson & Rex and her film credits include The King Tide, Away From Everywhere , and several short films.

Ruby Stokes was the first actress to play Francesca in the first two seasons of the Netflix series Bridgerton . She’s gone on to star in three shows prior to Below: Lockwood & Co. , The Burning Girls and The Jetty .

Her film credits include 2025’s Jay Kelly . She is also a London and New York Stage actress and recently played Miranda in The Tempest at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Kaleb Horn is a Canadian actor and singer whose recent credits include The Vampire Lestat, Revival, Chucky, Glamorous, and The Hardy Boys . He was also in the underrated movie The Kid Detective back in 2020.

Mary Walsh was born in Newfoundland as well. She is a comedian and writer as well as an actress.

Back in the day, she was on the Canadian sketch/variety series This Hour Has 22 Minutes and CODCO and also wrote for The Rosie O’Donnell Show .

More recently, you’ve seen her as a judge on Canada’s Drag Race and on shows like Resident Alien and Rookie Blue .
