She wants to feel like a woman. She wants to have drama. She wants to make an entrance.”
Perhaps the most head-turning piece on offer is a blue number shimmering with silver spangles like stars in a night sky. Another stunner is made of draped gray tulle over a beige base and features vines of clipped feather flowers. Crepe dresses, one in fuchsia peplumed with a draped flower of the same material topping the one-shoulder silhouette, and a strapless black gown with a bloom-bedecked ruffled neckline and deep cuts under the arms, offer a less literal take on the theme. More flirtatious is a see-through gold lace column with wire-edged 3D blooms. This piece ties into the sheer and lace trends from the ready-to-wear season, although Chapman observes that evening is a much more trend-resistant category. To this designer, the mark of success is a photogenic dress that has no expiration date.
