Gabrielle Union says that she and her Bring It On costar Kirsten Dunst are still "growing up together" over 25 years after working together on the iconic movie.
Union, 53, recently caught up with PEOPLE exclusively during a PEOPLE 10 in 10 interview. During the conversation, the actress revealed that she and Dunst, 43, still keep in touch, and added that parenthood has helped bring them closer.
"Luckily, our kids are around the same age and they have friends in common, so motherhood has sort of brought us together in a different way," she explained.
Union is mom to daughter Kaavia Union Wade, 7, and is stepmom to husband Dwyane Wade's three older children, Zaire Wade, 23, Zaya Wade, 18, and Xavier Wade, 12. Dunst, meanwhile, shares sons Ennis Howard Plemons, 7, and James Robert Plemons, 4, with her husband, actor Jesse Plemons.

"When we shot Bring It On, [Kirsten] was an actual child, and now she's a mom. And it's funny because we were talking about some of her mom's decisions and how she was raised, and what you took and what you left behind," she continued.
"It's like we're growing up together," she added.
The 2000 film, directed by Peyton Reed and written by Jessica Bendinger, follows high-achieving cheer captain Torrance Shipman (Dunst), who has recently taken over the championship-winning cheer squad at her Southern California high school. However, she soon must navigate an uncomfortable truth: the team's iconic routines were stolen from an underfunded squad called the Clovers, led by Isis (Union).

While speaking about the endeavor with PEOPLE, Union said that she feels strongly about shining a light on menopause and destigmatizing it for other women.

"[Menopause] challenges you to look at life differently and not as an ending, but as a beginning," she said.
"Initially, I felt shame. I felt my value as a woman was diminishing. I felt isolated. And over time, now, I feel empowered, and I'm gonna talk about it, and I'm not gonna lose a thing," she added.
