Model and actress Bijou Phillips is seeking a donor for a kidney transplant following health complications.
The 45-year-old socialite took to social media to reveal that a BK Polyomavirus has caused her body to reject a kidney that she received in 2017. The Cleveland Clinic describes the BK virus as an infection that can cause disease in immunocompromised people but rarely presents signs or symptoms in most people.
"I'm asking as a friend, a sister, an aunt, and, most importantly, a single mother to an incredible and brave daughter. I am in need of a kidney," she wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
Phillips revealed she was born with underdeveloped kidneys and spent the first three months of her life on dialysis in the NICU. It wasn't until 2017 that she "received the incredible gift of a kidney from a dear friend."

"That transplant gave me 8 precious years to be a mother to my daughter — but I have had many complications since, including the BK virus which led to both a cellular and antibody rejection," Phillips said.
USA TODAY has reached out to Phillip's representative for more information.
She said she is currently back on dialysis, being treated by a doctor at UCLA. "Please help me find a living donor so that I can have more time with my daughter, family, and friends. Time is of the essence."

Health challenges come after the split with Danny Masterson
Phillips filed for divorce from Danny Masterson in September 2023, shortly after the "That 70's Show" alum was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women.
In her petition, Phillips cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for divorce after 11 years of marriage. Along with divorce, she requested restoration of her name to Bijou Phillips, spousal support, full legal and physical custody of their daughter, with Masterson receiving child visitation.
In October 2025, she petitioned a California court to change her daughter's name, Fianna Francis Masterson, by dropping her ex-partner's surname, People and E! News reported.
Masterson is currently serving a 30-year-to-life in prison sentence after a jury found him guilty of raping two women in his Los Angeles home in 2003. The jury members, who included seven women and five men, could not reach a verdict on the third count alleging the actor raped a longtime girlfriend.
