Meghan Markle's new Netflix special, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, is streaming just in time for Christmas — but eagle-eyed viewers have noticed that it wasn't filmed this year
The special was shot a few months after seasons 1 and 2 of With Love, which were filmed in late spring-early summer of 2024
Another timeline clue is a brief appearance by Meghan's rescue beagle, Guy, whose death she announced in January
Meghan Markle's Netflix special, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, is streaming now — perfectly timed for the start of Christmas festivities. But one question is already circulating among viewers: when was it filmed?
The hour-long installment follows the Duchess of Sussex as she shares hosting tips, holiday traditions and cheerful kitchen moments alongside close friends and a few new guests. But keen-eyed fans quickly spotted a detail that quietly gives away the timeline.
Early in the special, Meghan's beloved rescue beagle, Guy, appears padding through the rented Montecito home, where Meghan filmed her series. His presence is sweet and subtle — and also the clearest sign that the episode was filmed last year.
Guy died in January 2025, shortly before Meghan announced the news in an emotional tribute, calling him "the best guy any girl could have asked for." Just as seasons 1 and 2 of With Love, Meghan were filmed prior to his death, the holiday special was shot before the loss as well. Season 1 even closed with a dedication reading, "In loving memory of Guy."
When the first season of With Love, Meghan premiered in March, she dedicated it to her beloved pup. "In loving memory of Guy," reads a tribute at the end of the eighth episode.

Meghan and husband Prince Harry are also adoptive dog parents to a black Labrador named Pula and a senior rescue beagle named Mamma Mia — but only Guy appears in the holiday special, making his cameo bittersweet.
Seasons 1 and 2 of With Love, Meghan were filmed back-to-back in the late spring and summer of 2024, and production on the holiday special followed a few months later, during the early weeks of last year's festive season.
The Holiday Celebration episode opens with Meghan visiting a real Christmas tree farm — the kind that only begin operating in California around mid-November — offering the first clue about the filming window. Later, guest Will Guidara casually notes that shooting the special is "one of the first festive things" he's done so far, another hint that cameras were rolling at the very start of the holiday period in 2024.

Regardless, Meghan brings plenty of holiday cheer to her special. She and Guidara make customized "Christmas crackers," a beloved British tradition that she and Harry keep alive for their children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.
The Holiday Celebration also features Meghan crafting with tennis champion Naomi Osaka, cooking gumbo for chef and Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio, and enjoying a festive brunch with her longtime friends Kelly McKee Zajfen and author-producer Lindsay Jill Roth.

Prince Harry even makes a brief cameo towards the end of the hour, sharing a sweet kiss with his wife as he helps himself to some of the treats in their kitchen.
"I love the holiday season," the Duchess of Sussex said in the trailer, which she first shared last month. "It's about finding time to connect with the people we love, embracing traditions and making new ones."
The special also features items from the first holiday collection from Meghan's lifestyle brand, As ever. The new launch included sparkling wines, hand-poured candles, artisanal fruit spreads and golden California honey — several of which appear as she offers kitchen tips or gift recommendations.

As an early gift last month, Meghan shared that As ever's signature fruit spread gift box was selected for Oprah Winfrey's annual holiday wish list, Oprah's Favorite Things. A friend of Harry and Meghan's Winfrey raved about the product in her gift guide.
"Before my neighbor Meghan started her business, she shared her homemade recipes with us," the media mogul shared. "I love to drizzle it on an English muffin or yogurt or ice cream. I also love bringing a jam or preserves as a hostess gift, and with this pretty box set of orange marmalade and raspberry and strawberry spreads, just add a bow and you're ready to go."
