Iconic 'Wizard of Oz' ruby slippers previously stolen by thieves go up for auction for eye-watering price
The iconic ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in 'The Wizard of Oz' are returning to auction after a nearly two-decade absence. Following an international tour, renowned memorabilia collector Michael Shaw, the original owner of the shoes, handed the pair over to be auctioned off at Heritage Auctions in Dallas. Online bidding is open at Heritage Auctions in Dallas and will run through December 7th. As of Tuesday afternoon, the highest bid was $550,000 The shoes, one of the four surviving pairs from the 1939 film, were stolen in August 2005 from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, when a thief broke a display case and stole the slippers.
