Live-action Kratos and Atreus are here.

A first look at Amazon's *God of War* drama arrived Friday as filming begins on the massive gaming-to-TV adaptation. Ryan Hurst and Callum Vinson appear as the two lead characters, recreating a scene from the beginning of the 2018 *God of War* video game in which the Ghost of Sparta gives his son a hunting lesson shortly after the death of his wife.

From showrunner and writer Ronald D. Moore (*Battlestar Galactica*, *Outlander*), *God of War* adapts the main events from the Scandinavian-set narrative of the most recent games in which Kratos and Atreus cross paths figures from Norse myth.

Ryan Hurst attends the Season 10 Special Screening of AMC's "The Walking Dead" at Chinese 6 Theater– Hollywood on September 23, 2019 in Hollywood, California., God of War: Kratos

What begins as a journey for father and son to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye, quickly turns into a fantastical adventure the tests their relationship and digs up ghosts from Kratos' past.

Already confirmed for the cast are Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok.

Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye (*Shōgun*, *The Boys*, *Fallout*) will helm the series' first two episodes. The show is already confirmed for two seasons.

The casting of Hurst as Kratos was significant as the *Sons of Anarchy* and *The Walking Dead* veteran previously portrayed Thor, god of Thunder, in the video games. Kratos comes with a deep history that dates back to the 2005 installment.

Kratos began as a Spartan warrior and a servant of Ares, the Greek god of war. After Ares tricked him into killing his family, earning him the nickname "the Ghost of Sparta," Kratos embarked on a mission to slay his tormentor and become the new war god. Across multiple games, he faced numerous figures — human, monster, and immortal alike — until he battled against Zeus himself and the full force of Mount Olympus.

By the time we meet him in 2018's *God of War* and the narrative the live-action show will now tackle, he's left that life behind to settle down in the land of Vikings.

Learn more about the various characters audiences will meet when *God of War* premieres on Amazon's Prime Video streaming platform. A launch date has not been confirmed.

- *Resident Evil Requiem* star Nick Apostolides gives his first interview about returning as Leon S. Kennedy for the ninth video game in the series.

- Apostolides shares the mood board he created in preparation for this more haggard Leon, along with the graphite sketch of an injured lion he used to define his essence.

- The actor describes the "weight" of bringing Leon back to Raccoon City.

For the past 20 years, Nick Apostolides, Capcom's current Leon S. Kennedy of the *Resident Evil* games, maintained a tradition with his brother. It started at their home in Boston when his sibling was 9 and he was 21. Baby bro was already well versed in *Super Mario Bros.* and Apostolides "thought he was ready to enter adulthood."

"I said, 'Do you wanna play a big boy game?'" the actor recalls. That happened to be *Resident Evil 4*, the survival-horror franchise's 2005 entry that heavily involved Mr. Kennedy, a government agent on a mission to rescue the U.S. president's kidnapped daughter from a dangerous cult, while fighting through zombie hordes. In other words, a massive leap forward in maturity from that lovable Italian plumber in overalls.

"It started his love affair ever since then," Apostolides says, and now they make a habit of playing each new *Resident Evil* game together for the very first time. When the actor, 41, speaks with **, it's the eve of Capcom announcing his return as the fan-favorite Leon in *Resident Evil Requiem* (out now on consoles) and he already has plans to fly to Boston a few days later to keep the brotherly ritual going.

This stranger-than-fiction parallel between the gaming series that started their tradition and his current acting gig are not lost on Apostolides. He first played Leon in the remakes of *Resident Evil 2* (2019) and *4* (2023), as well as a Netflix CG-animated miniseries (2021) before his *Requiem* comeback.

Resident Evil Requiem

"I've been in a surreal state for about a decade," Apostolides tells EW, sipping coffee on his living room couch in Los Angeles on an early Wednesday morning in February. "That game and the performance of the original voice actor for Leon inspired me to act in the first place. I remember daydreaming with my little brother, 'Wouldn't it be cool to do this one day, be a voice in these games?' I didn't even correlate it to acting. I wasn't even an actor at that point, never thought about it as a career path. Now fast forward about 20-something years later and it's a reality. Can I swear? … It's a mindf---! It's not often that an actor gets to act in their favorite franchise."

Apostolides describes stepping back into the role for *Requiem* as "a different kind of pressure." When he first landed the role for the remakes years prior, there was the weight of living up to the standards set by Paul Haddad, the voice of Leon in 1998's *Resident Evil 2*, and Paul Mercier, the Leon of the original *Resident Evil 4*. *Requiem*, however, is the first time Apostolides delivers a Leon performance in a game that's not retelling the events of a past entry.

"It was all uncharted territory," he agrees. "I had to really trust the direction of Capcom and really trust my instincts that I knew the character, I knew what to do."

With the game's release looming in the very near future, he admits, "I'd be lying if I said I didn't have any butterflies."

Nick Apostolides

*Resident Evil Requiem* is set approximately 30 years after Raccoon City was destroyed during the events of *Resident Evil 3: Nemesis* (1999). The new story unfolds through two dueling perspectives. FBI intelligence analyst Grace Ashcroft (*Industry* actress Angela Sant'Albano) is assigned to investigate a dead body at an abandoned Midwest hotel, the same location where her own mother was murdered eight years prior. When a local police officer then goes missing at the same hotel, veteran agent Leon S. Kennedy joins the fray.

*Requiem* will also return to the blast-scarred remains of Raccoon City, the fictionalized setting that started it all with a zombie outbreak that reshaped the world. Apostolides felt the weight of that alone, calling the moment "huge" for the franchise. If the first half of the game heavily features Grace-centric sequences, the second half gives the same for Leon.

"It wasn't until Leon got to Raccoon City where I really got to hone in on those instincts," the actor says. "The gravity of everything that he was witnessing, that's the core of his PTSD throughout the canon of the entire character.... When he re revisits Raccoon City, it's like a blast from his past, no pun intended."

Apostolides officially got the call about *Requiem* in November 2023, but fans figured out his casting a few months later. In February 2024, the actor posted a photo of himself holding a hatchet with pink tape wrapped around the hilt, suggesting some kind of motion-capture gig. His caption mentioned he had "a really good day in my life." Earlier this year, once Capcom revealed the character of Leon was back, that photo went viral after internet sleuths dug it up.

"I almost got in trouble for that," Apostolides comments. "I had archived that post on Instagram months and months ago, and I thought I hid it from the internet. I forgot that I had posted it to X as well a long time ago. I just forgot about it."

Resident Evil Requiem

Leon Kennedy fights an infected in 'Resident Evil Requiem'.

While *Requiem* can accommodate player preferences, it's designed to offer two different experiences based on the character POV. As Grace, a pop-up screen suggests keeping the camera in a first-person perspective to enhance the horror elements, including tension and jump scares. As Leon, however, it's recommended to play in the third person, which couples nicely with the action-thriller vibe of that storyline.

One of the early Grace sequences sees her sneaking through the mysterious Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center with nothing but throwable glass bottles as her defense against a chilling entity. The next level then shifts to Leon, who picks up a chainsaw to cut his way through an onslaught of infected. "Nice," he utters before picking up the machinery.

It allowed for Apostolides to embrace an even more world-weary version of Leon that fans of the long-running franchise haven't seen before. He's much older than the more lithe detective we've come to know, and though the specifics are a spoiler, we know he's infected with...*something* that keeps a ticking clock looming over his head at all times.

Typically when preparing for a role, Apostolides, as a guitarist, picks a song that encapsulates a character's essence. With Leon in *Requiem*, he chose "Orion" by Metallica, but he also embraced a side of his artistic self that he rarely shares with others. He began with a mood board of different words, objects, and photography.

"Reaper," "hemorrhage," "violent ember," and "fire in the dark" were some of the verbiage he chose, while the art collage consisted of dark images of a Grim Reaper, a shadow figure emerging from water, a lone deer on a mist-shrouded path beneath a skeletal tree, and a black-and-white snapshot of a crumbled medieval knight pummeled by arrows.

"The one image that I assigned to [Leon's] essence was an injured lion," Apostolides shares later on through an email correspondence. He calls this beast Lion S. Kennedy. "Crude, experienced, powerful, dangerous. And the phrase I locked onto was that he had to be 'brutal out of necessity,'" he continues. "The stakes were higher, and he needed every fight to end as quickly as possible this time around."

***Get your daily dose of entertainment news, celebrity updates, and what to watch with our ******EW Dispatch newsletter******.***

Apostolides envisioned this scarred lion through photo-real graphite sketching. Apostolides started drawing around the age of 3, making it his longest-running hobby. He still dabbles in various mediums, but graphite sketches are his most involved. The lion alone took him about 30 hours to produce. "Animals are brutal; they're highly textured and I'm slow :)," he writes over email.

This creative process of mapping the mind of Leon signifies how Apostolides has changed alongside the character over the years. Back on the *Resident Evil 2* remake, Capcom wouldn't let him lean into what he describes as "the cowboy version" of the gunslinger he had in mind, not until *Resident Evil 4*. Now with *Requiem*, Capcom emphasized a more cinematic approach, letting the cut scenes "breathe," as Apostolides puts it.

Nick Apostolides

"I knew everything about the character going in to *Resident Evil 2* remake a decade ago. And as we've gone on, he's changed quite a bit because they allowed me to inject my personality, some of my colloquialisms, my mannerisms into this character," the actor continues. "I get to write a lot of the lines, I get to paraphrase, I get to recommend a lot of moves. We also do the motion capture, so his body presentation in these games, that's me. I want to keep him cool, charming, badass, capable, and just [be] true to the icon that is Leon Kennedy."

Regardless of how gamers embrace (or don't) *Requiem*, one person is already a massive fan. "He was in disbelief," Apostolides says in describing his brother's reaction to his Leon casting. "He couldn't believe it, but we had to wait about two-and-a-half years for that game [*RE2*] to come out, and then we had to wait about six months to play because he had his schedule in Boston, I had my schedule in L.A. We waited six months to play that damn thing together. I was excited, but that's the dedication right there."

*Resident Evil Requiem* is available to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store).

In the grand scheme of campy sitcom silliness, *Bewitched* sweeps past the competition on a magic broomstick. ABC's eight-season classic flew Elizabeth Montgomery to fame as Samantha, a witch who marries mortal Darren (Dick York, later replaced by Dick Sargent) despite the disapproval of her all-powerful mother (Agnes Moorehead).

Though numerous attempts at a reboot have become non-starters — and the less said about the 2005 movie remake, the better — nothing beats the original fantasy show's bubbly allure. Even 60-plus years after its debut, *Bewitched* proves to be timeless TV magic. —*David Reddish*

The ultimate TV It Girl doesn't just rule Sunnydale High — she slays vampires...in heels! California teen Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) already has her hands full with the usual adolescent pressures, but throw in the responsibility of being the chosen Slayer, destined to defeat all evil? That's a whole other beast.

Joss Whedon's *Buffy the Vampire Slayer** *became an Emmy-winning cult sensation, with fans obsessing over every battle, outfit, love triangle, and snappy Buffy-ism. Though some of its '90s quirks may now feel a little passé, the WB fantasy show still stands as a feminist touchstone, breaking away from the 1992 film's damsel-in-distress trope to deliver a complex, empowered hero. —*James Mercadante*

The Halliwell sisters — psychic Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), telekinetic Prue (Shannen Doherty), time-freezing Piper (Holly Marie Combs), and (later) healing Paige (Rose McGowan) — accede to their fates as the Charmed Ones, the most powerful good witches who must beat dark forces one spell at a time. In between saving the world, they're busy juggling their love lives, dodging skeptical FBI agents, and maintaining normalcy. With plenty of drama both on and off screen, it's nearly impossible to recapture the lightning-in-a-bottle magic of *Charmed* (though the CW reboot gave it a shot with a four-season run). —*J.M.*

Set in the mythical world of Thra, this prequel series to Jim Henson's 1982 cult feature follows tribes of the elf-like species, Gelflings, fighting back against the genocidal Skeksis (an alien race set on dominating the planet).

Lauded by EW's writer as a "visually spectacular feat of magnificent world-building," *The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance* combines cutting-edge special effects with the classic art of puppetry. The series was canceled after one season due to massive production expenses, but it undoubtedly surpasses the original in terms of technical achievement and storytelling, with more accessible characters, a grander plot, and deeper emotional resonance. —*D.R.*

In a world where supernatural beings hide in plain sight, Oxford historian and witch Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) discovers a long-forgotten, enchanted manuscript that reveals the esoteric truths of magical creatures. As she joins vampire and biochemistry scholar Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode) in protecting the book from dark forces, their all-consuming attraction goes against the Covenant's strict ban on interspecies relationships.

Based on Deborah Harkness' *All Souls* trilogy, *A Discovery of Witches** *unveils a steamy, *Romeo and Juliet*-style fantasy romance that remains true to its source material while also reimagining elements for the screen. Based on George R. R. Martin's fantasy books, HBO's Emmy-winning series about political rivalry in a world of magic and dragons raised the bar on technical and dramatic innovation on television…not to mention wild sexual content.

Michael Schur's fantasy sitcom, *The Good Place**, *boasts one of the best season 1 finales in the history of TV. But before you get there, you spend 12 episodes learning about Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell), a newly dead woman from Phoenix.

After first being hit by a bunch of shopping carts and then finished off by a truck advertising erectile dysfunction pills, Eleanor ends up in a version of Heaven called the "Good Place." But she knows she doesn't belong, and she spends season 1 trying to disguise her inherently selfish nature and learn from the other Good Place dwellers how to be a more ethical person. Ted Danson stars as the Good Place's architect, and D'Arcy Carden is a treat as Janet, an AI-esque (woman-presenting) entity who assists the residents. After a decade of rotting in "development hell," Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's horror-fantasy comic made it to the screen. Following the murder of their father, siblings Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones), and Bode (Jackson Robert Scott) are relocated to his eerie Victorian estate in Massachusetts. There, they find themselves in a high-stakes battle with a demon (Laysla De Oliveria) over a set of magical keys hidden throughout the house.

While *Locke & Key* leans on a few fantasy clichés, it also elevates the genre with ingenious storytelling and tear-jerking depth. While Lady Jane Grey's real historical reign was cut short by a wrongful execution, Emily Bader's anachronistic character skirts around the guillotine but is still roped into marrying Lord Guildford Dudley (Edward Bluemel) — an Ethian who transforms into a horse — and being crowned queen overnight. Once Jane takes the throne, she becomes the prime target of villainous schemers eager to usurp her.

A feminist revision of history, *My Lady Jane* is a campy, *Princess Bride*-meets-*Ladyhawke* romp full of romantic tension and Oliver Chris' hilariously self-aware narrations. Though Amazon Prime Video pulled the plug after one season, more than 75,000 fans signed a petition to bring it back. —*J.M.*

Outlander (2014–2026)

Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser and Caitríona Balfe as Claire Randall on 'Outlander'

Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser and Caitríona Balfe as Claire Randall on 'Outlander'.

Sony Pictures Television

World War II combat nurse Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe) is mysteriously transported to 1743, where she meets hulking Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Despite her marriage to MI6 officer Frank (Tobias Menzies), neither war, sickness, captivity, nor multiple time jumps can break the kismet between Claire and Jamie.

Based on Diana Gabaldon's book series, *Outlander** *has lured audiences with its sweeping historical fantasy and once-in-a-lifetime(s) love story. EW's critic says it best: "What gets me the most hot is the romance — and how everything else the show does well makes the romance more ravishing." The eighth/final season premieres on March 6. —*J.M.*

Where to watch *Outlander*: Starz

**EW grade:** A–

**Cast:** Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish

Penny Dreadful (2014–2016)

Eva Green as Vanessa Ives on 'Penny Dreadful'

Eva Green as Vanessa Ives on 'Penny Dreadful'.

Great horror fantasies often walk the line between terror and camp, and *Penny Dreadful* finds the razor's edge. This show about a haunted woman (Eva Green) on the run from evil takes a page from the Universal Monsters playbook, as it mashes up tales of vampires, werewolves, witches, Satanists, and monsters as they run amok in Victorian London.

Gothic visuals and bombastic performances are sure to pull horror buffs into *Penny Dreadful*'s world. Yet what elevates the show is its focus on gender relations and atoning for the sins of the past, adding layers of depth beyond its lurid plotting and somewhat ridiculousness. —*D.R.*

Where to watch *Penny Dreadful*: Paramount+

**Cast:** Reeve Carney, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Rory Kinnear, Billie Piper

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023–present)

Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth, Aryan Simhadri as Grover, and Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson on 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians'

Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth, Aryan Simhadri as Grover, and Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson on 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians'.

*Percy Jackson* readers had every reason to lament the lackluster film adaptations of Rick Riordan's YA fantasy novels. Thankfully, this Disney+ series captures Camp Half-Blood the way it was always intended to be seen. Walker Scobell takes on the role of the titular 12-year-old who discovers he's the son of Poseidon with extraordinary powers (oh, also that Greek myths are true and he's been framed for stealing Zeus' lightning bolt).

With Riordan penning scripts and serving as a producer, this show faithfully revives fan-favorite elements while embracing the youthful spirit of its main characters. As EW's critic writes, "Scobell brings a wide-eyed charisma to the role," while the lead trio of Percy, Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) "have a crackling chemistry." —*J.M.*

Where to watch *Percy Jackson and the Olympians*: Disney+

**EW grade:** B+

**Cast:** Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Daniel Diemer, Dior Goodjohn

Stranger Things (2016–2025)

Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers (front), Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, and Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler on 'Stranger Things'

Netflix/Everett Collection

Combining classic horror tropes with '80s nostalgia, Netflix's groundbreaking phenomenon follows a group of plucky, small-town kids who stumble onto a government conspiracy involving a parallel universe brimming with monsters. Known as the show that redefined binge-watching from casual viewing to ravenous fixation, the real appeal of *Stranger Things*, as EW's critic writes, comes from its "fresh locales, appealing new characters, and a rewarding expansion of the mythology." We feel the same joy every time we watch. —*D.R.*

Where to watch *Stranger Things*: Netflix

**Cast: **Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo

Twin Peaks (1990–1991)

Kyle MacLachlan as Special Agent Dale Cooper on 'Twin Peaks'

Kyle MacLachlan as Special Agent Dale Cooper on 'Twin Peaks'.

Critics originally wrote off *Twin Peaks* as both too sophisticated and satirical for mainstream TV (EW's own critic declared there wasn't "a chance in hell" the show would ever connect). Yet the show, centered on the murder of Laura Palmer, became a surprise sensation — lasting two seasons, spawning a prequel movie, and returning two decades later for a revival season.

But wait: Isn't the show just a soap opera? Surrealist nonsense? Not quite. *Twin Peaks* is a world rife with magic and mystery, filled with demonic possessions, time travel, parallel dimensions, and ritual sacrifice. Just like all things *Peaks-*related, the seemingly standard whodunnit premise holds mystical secrets of its own. —*D.R.*

Where to watch *Twin Peaks*: Paramount+

**EW grade: **A+

**Cast:** Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Ontkean, Mädchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, Richard Beymer

The Vampire Diaries (2009–2017)

Ian Somerhalder as Damon and Paul Wesley as Stefan on 'The Vampire Diaries'

Ian Somerhalder as Damon and Paul Wesley as Stefan on 'The Vampire Diaries'.

Bob Mahoney/The CW

As if dealing with survivor's guilt isn't enough, orphaned teen Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) discovers her world is far stranger than she imagined: Her new boyfriend and his brother are 100-plus-year-old vampires; her best friend is a witch; werewolves are real; and the supernatural has seeped into every corner of Mystic Falls, Va. Oh, she also has an evil doppelgänger to worry about…

Based on L.J. Smith's book series, *The Vampire Diaries* offers some of the most richly layered and multifaceted characters the CW has ever seen (with a stellar cast bringing them to life). Its rapid-fire storytelling and plot twists kept viewers under compulsion for eight seasons, paving the way for several successful spinoffs. —*J.M.*

Where to watch *The Vampire Diaries*: HBO Max

**EW grade:** B+

**Cast:** Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Steven R. McQueen, Kat Graham

WandaVision (2021)

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in 'WandaVision'

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in 'WandaVision'. Marvel Studios

When *WandaVision* premiered in 2021, the first third of the miniseries was groundbreaking TV. Each of the first three episodes takes place in a different decade and parodies a different generational style of sitcom. Wanda and Vision solve the problems that plagued TV characters in the '50s, '60s, and '70s, but by the end of the third episode, it's clear that dark, destructive forces are at work here.

The Marvel faithful will appreciate the seeds the show planted to kick off Phase Four of the MCU, and the Marvel uninitiated will enjoy watching Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany engage in a playful romp, pleasures that were denied their characters during their earlier movies. EW's critic calls the show "the best original series on Disney+." *—I.G.*

Where to watch *WandaVision*: Disney+

**EW grade: **B+

**Cast: **Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Debra Jo Rupp, Fred Melamed, Kathryn Hahn

What We Do in the Shadows (2019–2024)

Kayvan Novak as Nandor and Harvey Guillén as Guillermo de la Cruz on 'What We Do in the Shadows'

Kayvan Novak as Nandor and Harvey Guillén as Guillermo de la Cruz on 'What We Do in the Shadows'. Russ Martin/FX

Staten Island might be home to several *Jersey Shore* icons, but it also holds four centuries-old vampire roommates: self-appointed leader Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), sexually liberated Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), British dandy Laszlo (Matt Berry), and day-walking Colin (Mark Proksch). Among them is their human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), who tries to keep up with the clan's everyday chaos in hopes of one day becoming immortal.

Viewers adore FX's *What We Do in the Shadows* — inspired by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi's 2014 film — for its irreverent, *Addams Family*–meets–*The Office* spin on the vampire mythos, with its ensemble cast delivering some of the sharpest, toothiest lines on TV. —*J.M.*

Where to watch *What We Do in the Shadows*: Hulu

**Cast: **Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén, Mark Proksch

The Wheel of Time (2021–2025)

Madeleine Madden as Egwene Al'Vere and Josha Stradowski as Rand al'Thor on 'The Wheel of Time'

Madeleine Madden as Egwene Al'Vere and Josha Stradowski as Rand al'Thor on 'The Wheel of Time'. Jan Thijs/Amazon Studios

Based on Robert Jordan's beloved book series, *The Wheel of Time** *stars Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, a sorceress investigating an ancient prophecy about a reincarnated being powerful enough to save the world — or destroy it.

Though EW's critic notes that this series wants to be heir to *Game of Thrones*' success, despite being less accessible, its massive budget delivers lush visuals and top-notch effects. The dense mythology may challenge some viewers, but even *GOT *had early hurdles in adapting its source material. —*D.R.*

Where to watch *The Wheel of Time*: Amazon Prime Video

**Cast: **Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Zoë Robins, Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski

The weather is starting to warm up, and spring break is in a few weeks. That means one thing: prom season will soon be here! It's the yearly time of making magical memories, wild limo rides, heartfelt romance, being young, and above all else— dancing!

After all, what is a prom without dancing? And while trends have changed throughout the decades, some timeless classics always find their way on the playlist. As seen on uDiscoverMusic's list of "The 25 Best Prom Songs to Dance The Night Away," there are some meme-worthy songs, like Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" (for all the Back to the Future fans), and sincere bops like Beach Bunny's "Prom Queen."

This year's prom playlist will likely have a lot of Bad Bunnyon it, thanks to his recent Album of the Year win at the Grammys and groundbreaking Super Bowl performance. So expect to hear "DtMF" alongside the John Hughes-approved OMD's "If You Leave" (No. 10 on the list) and Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" (No. 9).

Billy Idol was once again nominated for the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame in 2026; he has certified himself in the Prom Playlist Hall of Fame with his song, "Dancing With Myself" (No. 8). He joins two other '80s superstars with Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" (for those slow dances) and David Bowie's "Let's Dance" at No. 7 and 6, respectively.

Disco reigns supreme in the list's top 5. Bee Gees' "You Should Be Dancing" and Donna Summer's "Last Dance" come in at No. 5 and 4; Lady Gaga's "Let's Dance," once ranked the "catchiest pop song of all time," is at No. 3, while Robyn's "Dancing On My Own" is at No. 2.

So, who is no. 1? Why, it's Abba, of course.

"This entry's placement at No.1 is a no-brainer," writes the team behind the list. "You can't have a playlist of the best prom songs (or any playlist at all) without ABBA. 'Dancing Queen' is distilled Euro-pop perfection – has one song ever contained so much pure joy? Even the most sullen teen at prom is not immune to ABBA."

Even Gene Simmons praised ABBA's "undeniable songwriting" (per Guitar.com)

Released in 1976 as the lead single from ABBA's fourth album, Arrival, "Dancing Queen" reached No. 1 in over a dozen countries, including the United States, making it ABBA's only No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. On the song's 40th anniversary, The Guardiandubbed "Dancing Queen" as "the best pop song ever."

"'Dancing Queen' is beautifully produced: catchy and euphoric, the perfect backdrop for a song that encapsulates the carefree bliss of youth," wrote editor Tom Jonze. "The sonic euphoria mirrors the freedom that the dancefloor can bring."

As "Dancing Queen" turns 50 in 2026, it remains one of the most popular songs of all time. On Spotify alone, it has 1.9 billion streams, and will certainly cross the two-billion mark as teens across the world don their fancy dresses, pin on their corsages, and head off to prom.

Ferragamo Gave All the Glamour in Milan launchmetrics

Sandwiched between two very high-octane shows on the Milan Fashion Week calendar—Gucci the day before and Dolce & Gabbana immediately following—Maximilian Davis's fall collection for Ferragamo felt like a palette cleanser. He staged his show this season inside the Triennale art and design museum, in a long runway snaking through one of the galleries with deep navy carpeting on the floor and matching velvet curtains hanging along the walls. It was dark in that cavernous, winding space, but also warm and serene.

Davis wanted to transport us to an intimate speakeasy, or at least the free-spirited, communal aspects of one. His was less about raucous partying and more about convening in a room full of soft jazz and impeccably-dressed revelers to celebrate with ease and style. As the models began to walk out onto that long, hot runway, there was an immediate feeling of a return to elegance, a measured and exacting interpretation of modern ladies. Davis's new collection was one of his best yet at Ferragamo, a house that he has reinvigorated with his sophisticated but cool and contemporary design point of view.

The women frequenting this fantasy speakeasy wore luxuriously tailored peacoats in asymmetrical cuts that were just oversized enough. A white silk top and matching skirt were divine with their sideways lacing up the front, the top hanging just so off the model's shoulder. Davis designed cool little sailor jackets with button detailing running up and down and across in all different directions. Some of the most beautiful pieces came towards the end of the collection: silky and lamé slips and strapless dresses with Art Deco-inspired silhouettes in a sumptuous palette of gold and brown. A pleated mermaid-shaped gown in a bronzey gold and black looked incredible paired with a mossy green cashmere cocoon coat.

At this moment, fashion designers, particularly those working at heritage luxury houses, are fascinated by dressing real women for everyday life. There is a collective pull towards the bourgeoisie, towards effortlessness and the idea of the wardrobe. Whereas many of these conversations can come off as trite or detached from reality, Davis actually knows how a certain clientele of well-heeled women want to dress—and how they want to feel in their clothes. He has always been a perfect fit for Ferragamo because of this, and he has successfully modernized one of Italy's most storied brands.

Davis believes in old-world glamour and elegance, but he translates them through a lens of energy and spirit. There is so much soul in his Ferragamo, alongside some pretty spectacular beauty.
