A North Carolina college student has been arrested and charged after allegedly recording himself in a sexual encounter inside a dorm room and sharing the footage in his fraternity’s Snapchat group chat.
Alexander Michael Evanoff, 19, was arrested on Monday, Oct. 19, according to jail records viewed by PEOPLE. He has been charged with two counts of felony secret peeping and disclosure of private images, a law that includes sexual conduct and “naked human parts,” according to the Charlotte Observer.
The Observer and the New York Post reported that Evanoff is accused of using his cell phone to make the recording on Sept. 19 while he was in a woman’s dorm room at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Hunt Hall building, citing an affidavit and university police.
Later that day, Evanoff posted the video in a Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity Snapchat group chat containing approximately 32 members, a warrant obtained by the outlets stated.

Two people reported seeing the video in the Snapchat group, the outlets reported.
When the woman in the video learned of the recording, she told police that she confronted Evanoff about it, asking him if he distributed the recording to “appear cool,” law enforcement said.
“Evanoff reportedly responded affirmatively and apologized,” the affidavit states.
During an interview with investigators, Evanoff “admitted to recording and distributing the video without requesting [the woman’s] permission and acknowledged that its distribution would be embarrassing and humiliating to her,” per the affidavit.
He also allegedly told detectives that he didn’t request or obtain the victim’s permission to create or distribute the video.

In a statement shared with the Observer, UNC Charlotte said Evanoff “is not currently enrolled at the University.”
“The alleged conduct in this case, if true, is reprehensible. It is not what we expect or will tolerate from members of our campus community,” university officials told the newspaper. “All of our cases are evaluated in accordance with applicable university policies. Any student who breaks the law is not only responsible for criminal charges, but may also be subject to the University’s disciplinary process, which includes sanctions up to and including expulsion.”

Evanoff was released one day after his arrest on a $10,000 bond, according to court and jail records. He has a probable cause hearing scheduled for Nov. 5.
